1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Lies you tell yourself about BJD

Apr 24, 2021

    1. I am only going to get one this year.
I am only going to get the ones on my list.
(I already broke these this year.)

Here is the big ones I already gave up on...
Only MSD and smaller ... (Buys several SD's)
Okay self... only 1/3 not uncle ... (Now, has 3 uncle sized boys.)
Only 1 SD girl ... (Ordered a 2nd girl this year.)
No weird sizes... (gets a Luts Senior 65, not quite 1/3 & not quite uncle.)

Honestly, I think I give up setting myself rules... I am just going to break them anyways. :XD:

    3. "I'm not interested in white skin dolls." This is still true aesthetically (I am a yellow-toned person myself), but my doll inspiration has veered significantly from the ancient world and has moved to the Renaissance world, and if you can imagine, the Renaissance world loves white skin.
"I don't like 70cm guys." A lie from my earliest days, as in my 17-yr-old, one MSD boy, onion. Now I see big boys and just CRAVE.
"I will have a set BJD budget." HAH.

    4. "I'm going to wait until later this year to get my next doll."
"I'm going to give my other dolls new outfits and wigs before I purchase my next doll."
"I'm going to get my Dolls Leaves girl new hands before I get another doll."

Proceeds to purchase another doll that was on my wishlist.

    5. “I’m going on a no-buy”
It took several tries to make that one stick but that lie finally became a truth. I’m on my second time of a ‘no buy’ ad it is feeling pretty good!
“I’ll only get one wig for each...” (said no one ever)
“I don’t need ALL of the Unoa 1.5 faceplates” (a most filthy lie, I DO NEED THEM!)
“I’ll downsize *next* year...” ...I have been saying that for about 5 years, still have not put even one doll up for sale!

    6. "I'm not an MSD person, so I won't order any more MSDs or MSD things." ...bought a Wimukt article of clothing the next day and I'm eyeballing a Luts kid delf as we speak.
"No more floating heads." ...bought a secondhand event head two days later and ordered a BBB Apollo head two days after that.
"I'm never going to buy expensive eyes." ...my two pairs of Enchanted Doll eyes with four more pairs sitting in my Etsy cart beg to differ.
"I'm never going to sell my grail DD!" ...I just sold her today (admittedly, I'm going to use her funds to buy the same head sculpt but a different release because white skin is way more of a pain to deal with than semi-white).
"I'm going to sell this floating head." ...she's listed for now, but if I don't get a nibble here soon, I may just keep her. I wouldn't even be that upset about it.

Basically, I'm a dirty liar to myself about everything in this hobby!

    7. Reads these responses.
Remembers how I was only going to "get a doll to see if I liked them." Then, "I will buy mostly used dolls and do most of the wig making and simple clothing myself."
Looks at my shelf with more then ten dolls on it. About half have bought wigs and most have clothing made by other people.
Well, that went different than had been planned.

    8. "I'll sell these dolls soon" :sweat I've been meaning to downsize my collection for months and I keep on saying "I'll sell them next month" and then not selling anything u_u

On a more serious note, "This doll is worth the risk I'm taking to purchase it". Way too many doll companies give the buyer no protection, have production times well over any payment protection period, and regularly ghost their customers for months at a time... but I still ignore the red flags and buy from them. Part of me knows it's a huge risk to send hundreds of dollars overseas with no safety net, but the obsessive collector in my head makes me totally irrational about it.:sorry

    11. The first lie was: "I'll only buy one wig and one pair of eyes per doll. It's weird to change them constantly, right? So if I get something that doesn't really work, I'll sell it on and only keep The Perfect One."

My dolls each have multiple wigs (some of which aren't even vaguely in the same colorway) and a couple of them have multiple pairs of eyes. (But I still feel slightly weird about this. I want the eyes, at least, to be consistent...)

The second lie went: "I'll only buy secondhand. That way, I'll know exactly what condition it's in (if there are manufacturering defects, etc), and can ask for photos from multiple angles if I'm not sure. I also won't have to wait!"

      HAH!
Yeah, that went out the door very quickly. Like, immediately, lol. I still prefer to buy secondhand, but I'm happy now to buy direct from companies as well. (Also, I fully admit my reasoning for this rule was sketchy. I had heard horror stories of certain company's quality issues, wait times well exceeding any purchase protections from PayPal, people getting sent the wrong dolls, etc, and I got spooked. I was REALLY nervous to try to deal with any kind of issue across a language barrier, and I had it in my head that such issues were pretty common, at least for English-speaking customers. Now I know that's really not the case. And when problems do arise, it's not as terrifying as I thought to get it corrected even if the company rep doesn't speak much/any English.)

Lie The Third: "I'll never buy a fullset."

      Lolololololol~
It was Rosen Lied that broke me of this one. Them and their limited Holiday's Children. Strangely, once I broke down and bought the first fullset, I'm no longer opposed to the idea of buying more. They've got to be really suited to my tastes, though.

Lie Number Four: "I'll never buy clothes for my dolls. I make my own clothes, ffs! I can make theirs too, no problem! I'll only ever buy their shoes, and maybe socks."

Turns out that just because I can do something doesn't mean I always want to do it. Once again, it was Rosen Lied that broke me of this. Their little dresses were just so cute and perfect, I couldn't resist. In the end, I've bought three outfits from them, and will probably buy more in the future...(I still prefer to make most of my dolly clothes, though)

Lie Five: "No impulse purchases, ever! I have to want the doll and then go actively looking for it in order to buy it."

This went out the door instantly when I saw a certain soon-to-be-mine Volks DWC-02 on the Marketplace. I was actually looking for girl SD10, considering several headsculpts. DWC-02 was not on my list of possibles, and he was on a boy body to boot! But I fell 100% madly in love with him at first sight, and my fate was sealed.

After that little adventure, I tried to consider Oliver a fluke.

But then I spotted a Fairyland Erda on the Marketplace, at a pretty fair price. He wasn't on my list, at all. I was still looking for my perfect Volks girl, and also keeping an eye out for a couple different Idealians. I didn't have any plans, anywhere, for adding a 60cm fairy prince to the gang. I passed him over, albeit reluctantly, and began stalking the tag on Instagram in an attempt to get it out of my system. I told myself that if I was still pining over him in six months, I would order him from the company.

Then Fairyland announced they were discontinuing the Feeple60 line.

      Friends, I panicked. :lol::sweat
I waited about an hour and a half before messaging that seller and arranging to bring Erda home. And I'm very glad I did!

Now, hopefully that's all my fluke impulse purchases...

The Big Lie: "I'll never sell any of my dolls."

I sometimes feel bad about breaking this one. So far, I've only sold one doll, and I kinda regret it. But I'm considering selling a second one nevertheless. It's a hard decision, so for now, I've packed him up and put him away in the back of the closet. Eventually, I'll either miss him enough to get him back out and play with him again, or I'll know that selling him to someone who'll enjoy him is the right choice.

    12. Bjds are gorgeous but I'm never getting one.. what would I do with it, where would it be kept?

Next thing I know I have 5, find my grail, sell 4 then buy my first msd, decide to sell him then decide I really can't do it.
What next? Feel like I'm getting jealous looks from Moth, my grail boy. :)
No I really won't be getting any more...promise...

    13. "I'll stick with just the one I ordered, I don't think I'd fall head over heels for another one like that," I said before finding out about Wol. New rule is only the two MSDs, since there's only so much room in the apartment. We'll see how that goes.

"I can totally style this wig." No I can't. Hopefully I'm better at sewing them, because now I have to wait for the replacement materials to show up after I wrecked the (cheap, thank goodness) first wig. Curling synthetic hair is not my forte, to say the least.

    14. Oh gosh, I can only imagine how serious the temptation would be with the Unoa faceplates, they're so gorgeous:chibi Congrats on keeping it to one Unoa. Maybe one of my lies is "I don't need a Unoa MSD."

    15. Oh no! Did everything work out in the end or are you still waiting for dolls to arrive?

    16. @Subzerolover I'm currently waiting for dolls to arrive, but I wasn't really referring to a single particular situation so much as just a recurring issue. :( Thankfully I haven't been scammed out of my money entirely yet, but I feel like it's just a matter of time...

    17. "This year I'm going to focus on getting bodies for my floating heads."

Every time I say that, I usually end up getting one or two bodies, but end up with another one or two heads setting me back to square one :sweat

    18. MOOD.

Along with "oh, I'll just get them blank, and find a faceup artist I like to paint them!" which is followed by the corollary "oh, I'll just get the faceup this time and if I don't like I'll just get them repainted."

I'm not haunted by my WIP list at all, really.........

    19. One doll is enough for me.
I'll finally finish the faceup tomorrow.
I will no longer spend on 1/3 furniture.
      No more floating heads!
