Limiting the BJD Addiction

Ha ha... reading through this thread was kind of funny... after seeing Batchix's current collection, I could never imagine her having only one doll. ^_^

I have been having a bit of a problem too... I started collecting 6 months ago, and I already have 4 full dolls and two floating heads. >_< I have put myself on a doll budget though, since I'm saving up for a move in September. I am setting goals... if I end up with a certain amount in savings by a certain time, then I am allowed to use the excess to buy a body for one of my floating heads. Got to have a system or else I'll go crazy. Not so much that I can't pay my bills... but enough that I'm not putting as much into savings as I really should.

Currently I have a freeloader living in my living room. I have to limit my addiction. I can't even take pictures in most of my home because he is home all day everyday, just sitting and watching tv. -_- I have to have my dolls hide because I know he will poke at them and might even break them. He has no idea what they are and hasn't shown that he is careful with my things My poor babies!!! I want to get my tinies...

 

Oh, good lord, you sound like me!!! But I try my hardest to pretend that I don't have some of my credit cards... And luckily, the CC number I have memorized has the smallest credit line amount!

 

I manage to resist temptation by window shopping. I go onto eluts or tensiya and write down aaaaalll the things I want, and add up the cost.

Then I look at the total sum and weep.

 

Hello, my name is Gwydion & I'm a BJD addict. What more can I really say? I'm a junkie, pure & simple. But then it's a lot better than many other things one could be addicted to or so the saying goes.

After nearly a year of complete insanity with these dolls, I'm finally slowing down a bit though. I don't feel an overwhelming need anymore to have everything all at once. Of course, that could be because I've already gotten almost everything. LOL! Seriously, I'm being pretty good & only ordering one doll at a time so I have time to sell & save for her/him.

 

Until a couple of months ago, I was really horrible when it came to passing up a chance to buy a doll or doll- related stuff-- even if I knew I might need the money for other things. I was all in denial going by the "Oh, we'll get along!" method. But I've recently understood that giving my live-in bf a peace of mind, knowing I'll surely be able to help him pay the bills etc. if things get tough, is just much more important to me than a doll. It's not like I'm not going to buy anything doll- related anymore, I'll just have to be a bit more patient and do it when I am 100&#37; SURE I have enough money for all the rest. The whole "we'll get along somehow" method is just unhealthy and destructive, and I'm glad I realized that before we got into some serious financial trouble.

 

Eventually I'll learn restraint. (Sigh)... The problem is having money, and then seeing dolls that are limited and knowing if I don't get him now, I'll not be able to get him. Sure I bought my 'August' doll today, and know there is another doll coming out in August that may be limited and I may have to get as well... sigh...

Every time I tell myself this is the last one. . .the absolute last one! . . . and then it happens again, I can't resist and I tell myself again this is absolutely the last the last one! LOL!!!!

 

This time I say: The doll I bought yesterday is my last one! I wanted him since I saw him. Now I have 9 Doll (inclusive my new Monzo and a single head who will get his body later). This has to be enough!
Besides I will not have money for a further doll in next future ... I never thought to count myself lucky bacause of shortage of money

I will tell you about success or defeat ...

 

I'm pretty good at resisting standard sd sized bjds, because SD bunch are character dolls and I have no intention on making anymore, so other sd dolls will seem out of place with them because they won't be from the same world. Any additional dolls after that will have to look completely different from my standard bunch. Other than a tiny and Lusion doll, I don't have any interest in anything else.

 

I think a large majority of bjd owners have this problem :P Herp

My resistance is also that I have no money. I'm done with Gradschool in December and probably as soon as I get a job that will change =/ However as important to me as the dolls are my horse takes up even more of my heart so she'll get stuff first and if I have spending money left after that it will go to the dolls.

 

I wish I knew the cure for this...
I only wanted one doll, then I had to order the main character of my NaNoWriMo story...Then I know he needs his two sidekicks, and with his sidekicks he needs his siblings and...
.....Yeah. I'm going to be buying dolls until my crew feels complete. Good thing I have to save up for most of my dolls.

I said the exact same thing.. and then I found a Bisou AI that was perfect, and a PukiPuki I couldn't resist.. and the damaged doll I want to break and fix fell into my lap so.. uh.. yeah, guilty.
