1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Limiting the BJD Addiction

Oct 28, 2004

    1. Since I got Ryleigh (Unoa Sist) I've said that's enough. I had wanted an Unoa for a long time so when I got one, it was kind of like...well, that's it then. I suppose someday another doll will come along that grabs my attention and I'll think I just have to have it...but I will try to resist. I feel if I have too many dolls, they wouldn't all get the attention that a select few would get...I'll probably continue to buy clothes, wigs etc but no more dolls...at least for now!

    2. I'm trying to wait, desperately trying to delay getting my second doll. Because I only want 3 (i know, everyone says that.) and I want to make sure that a newer doll doesn't come out that makes me want MORE MORE dolls.
So I'll be saving for my second doll for a while. Til then, I stockpile stuff for my girl.

So 3 dolls, that's it for me.

    3. Before I got Mika's head, I looked at all of my kids and told myself I had enough. I thought, wow..it's been less than a year since I got my first two, and my collection's already tripled.
But then I went ahead and ordered Mika's head anyways. And after my two heads have bodies, there are still three more personalities that have already surfaced and had bodies chosen for them.
I generally tend to lose interest in hobbies before I actually acquire everything I want to; in the case of BJDs, I both hope that it'll happen (and save me money), and hope it won't happen, as I don't like the idea of abandoning the floating personalities and the kids I already have.

    4. My "enough is enough" will come once my dream family is complete. I have a Dollstown Estella, and once I get Yeondu, Bandi, and Susie (and maaaaaybe Seol-a), I think I will be done. With buying dolls, I mean. I will still want to get clothes and accessories for them.

    5. My BJD family will be complete after I get a dollshe Ru to join my other three. I'll have four total then. I think they will compliment one another nicely and make for great photoshows. Besides, just keeping three mini-size and one super-mini in clothes will cost plenty!

As for my other doll collections, those are very much based on room. I'll stop when I can't cram another one into the highrise apartment I've built. (My BJDs have the run of the room because they're better behaved- I put them different places though they do have a reserved shelf.)

    6. I feel like I'm almost done with my SD group, I'm planing on getting a mini FCS girl in the next month or so and I want another SD size boy at some point(not sure who yet though) then after that I think I'll be calling it quits as far as buying new dolls go.

Enough for me is when I'm content and happy with what I have. I don't want to get to the point where I have so many dolls that I won't be able to enjoy them and give them as much attention as I would like to. So I'm starting to feel like I'm reaching my limit (so far I have 4 dolls and a head).

Also I really want to start focusing on buying my dolls things. I love buying them new clothes, shoes and things like that, that’s really fun to me. But I've been spending so much time saving and buying new dolls that I haven't really gotten around to pampering them with nice clothes and accessories until now.

    7. Well.. I'm not sure.
Just judging by my past hobbies, I'm someone who continues going on in the hobby forever, but I kind of go in bursts... For example, when I get started and can regularly buy dolls, there will probably be times when I feel I am done and nothing tickles my fancy, thus I dont buy anything and so I will focus more on what I already have, and then a few months later I will see something that I absolutely MUST have...

Or I may just keep going steadily forever and drive Brandon insane

    8. so far, (according to everyone around me) I'm only allowed ONE DOLL.

...of course my own plans are different. So far I only really want two. I've got my first, and until another doll catching my eye, I'm not going to buy a second. either way I'm going try and put at least a year between the first and the second @___@ otherwise I can see myself falling quickly in debt. XD

Also, part of the fun of this for me is to have a lott of other things for him, like clothes/shoes/furnitur etc etc. I know I won't be able to do that if I have heaps of dolls.

I'm hoping I can stick with only having two. *crosses fingers*

    9. at first I thought one will be enough
      well apperantly not

I guess I will stop within 5. Though I do desire to have quite alot of them with me, but I can still let go for some of them. Like paris and heath whom I love, I might not get them afterall. I don't think I have attention enough for all of them.

So far, and hopefully no more, it'll be fraud(hound), a sleeping rain and cecile. More if I like my own sculpts. Hopefully I will not have anything more than 5. Especially when my family isn't all that supportive. Especially my god mother whom I am not suppose to let her see my doll EVER. >_<

    10. That's where I am right now. I've been waiting to adopt for about a year and a half. And hoepfully when DoD restocks, i can get my Camine. And I think I'll be very happy with just one doll

The max I would ever get is two. Because I would want to take them to conventions or meet-ups and the like, and it's hard enough carrying one. I would never want more dolls than I could carry.

And I'm so in love with Camine right now, that I can't think of wanting any other doll.

but most importantly, my husband would absolutely DIE if I decided I wanted to spend $600 on another doll. I've finally convinced him that it's worth it for one, but he would never be able to see spending that kind of $$ on another one.

    11. Hmm.. while there are alot of dolls that i WANT, only a few that i must have. While some are favorite molds.. the most important to me are the ones based off my comic book/role play characters.

I have Azrael and Alastair.. (two). Next on my list are my role playing characters.. Aeri, Fachtna and her two brothers (four total, unoa sized). Then I want to get Azrael's boyfriend (F-16) and a Hound and Shall (or Sooah, undecided.. XD).

So.. 9 total. I do want to get a TINY eventually.. but i'm undecided as to whom... or another big girl doll. Eventually. It might take me another two years to get them all (between long unoa wait times and money *_* ) but.. I think I'll be happy then.

I only ever really get ONE nice outfit for my doll and never change them out of it. The one thing I think I would end up getting alot of us props and furniture. Even if I got all the dolls I wanted... I'de still be all up on furniture and props!

    12. I do feel as if I have enough dolls, however if there's one special doll that "calls my name" I'm always willing to add another one. I would like to get another doll at the Volks LA store opening since I've never had the opportunity to actually *pick* a special doll in person, and since I'm moving to Florida in a couple of weeks it'll be a while before I'll go to Volks again. At this point it's a toss up between Femi, Kun, and Toppi (depending on what's available when I get there and who "speaks" to me the most in person), if I end up missing out on any of the dolls I want I won't be heartbroken since I do have all the dolls I need already.

    13. DarkFire Wolf, you are an amazingly patient person...I didn't wait that long to adopt my REAL daughter!!! (ie, human! :D ) I hope you get your first doll very soon. I don't think I could manage to wait that long....

Since I'm still pretty new at the whole BJD deal, I have no idea how many dolls I want. Due to their cost, it's probably gonna be around 3 or 4...I only have one now (but Hanael is on her way!!) plus one that I'm paying off on layaway. I don't have any SD sized yet, so that will most likely be my next adventure in penny-scrounging: A Souldoll Clara, or perhaps a CP Soony. Right now I'll stick with the minis--I've already got lots of clothes for them, and several patterns, and if I get a big girl I'll have to go buy all new sizes of wigs, eyes, shoes, not to mention new patterns and all that fabric.... *_*

Sigh...so much lovely fabric, so few hours in the day..!

    14. Justyn stop making people fall in love with him? Impossible ^__^

As for me I just need one more doll to make my MSD "family" complete, I have my twins (Alex & Mia), I have Ryuen, now I just need Ryu's significant (b)other.

After I get Yukiro, I'll be done...

...For a while anyway, I'm still thinking of getting one or two of the bigger dolls, but they won't be for a very long time and maybe by the time I'm ready for them I'll just be happily content with my four ^_^

    15. this is exactly how I feel! and best of luck getting Camine, *whispers*I think he's the most beautiful boy mould ever...but then I'm biased! XD

and yeah...I would feel bad having lots of dolls and having to leave them at home. I would want another to keep my Camine company when I'm not at home and to do photoshoots and stories with but yes...

my boyfriend is quite appaled that I want another. oh well. I'll just have to pretend it appeared magically out of nowhere if I get another

    16. Enough is when I start having to sell dolls to be able to afford more... which is like.. NOW.

I got into this hobby after having been a longtime antique doll collector... so a bunch of my antique dolls were sold to fund my BJD adoptions...

But I've moved recently and have very little space now... so I have to plan very carefully now!

I used to think I had to have "Every Vampire", and I thought I HAD to have an UNALTERED UNoss.... But those are SO expensive. TOO expensive. I don't want dolls I'm afraid to touch. I bought an Araki-painted Unoa Sist for almost 1700.00. I got her home and thought... This is crazy!! I sold her straightaway, bought an altered UNoss with cracked knees for a third of Sist's price... painted her myself (Thank you Unoa Freak!) and am as pleased as punch with her!

I LOVE painting BJDs. It's hard for me when I see a face I feel I'd LOVE to paint! That is now my biggest temptation!

Time to set up "esthetics" shop!!!

    17. I'm at a temporary "enough" place right now. I planned to get four dolls right off and work on them for awhile before getting any more. I'm waiting for Max's Re-Che head, then I've got to get him a CP body. Nathan's head is already here but I can't decide on a body quite yet. I'm looking for something built like a Souldoll but taller...gah!

Sure I'm considering other sculpts for character incarnations but I've no plan to buy them now. I take that back, If St. James decides she needs a D.O.T. boy body for her Aaron St. James doll then I'll tell her to get a Camine and keep the head for my Lex doll.

    18. Wow, hard question. I have a few boys in limbo right now, but once they're complete and settled, I should be good. Or at least, I'll be done for a while.

Of course, there was one point when I thought one would be enough, and then that two would be my absolute limit. Those were pretty short lived delusions, but I've kept on track with the idea that ten should be my most extreme limit, and I shouldn't pass it until I'm a crazy old lady who hermits away in her house with nothing but dolls covering the place (and I'll love every single one of them. ).

    19. i've always had doll plans, but fortunately, they have never exceeded 5 dolls.. ok, maybe once, but i beat it down again.. now, it's at 4.. which is really good.

    20. Good question, I wonder what number I will stop at .....

Since I'm quite new to BJD, but so far I have set my heart just for 2 dolls (Yder & El). I just want to be able to give my fullest attention to my boys (well, I have only two hands, each for one of them) .

But who knows in the future there will be new head moulds that will interest me
