It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. Limwha boy To L (tuel)

May 21, 2009

    1. Failtan. XD

I have more or less accepted that my tan Eva will be orange and am thinking how to turn that into an interesting character twist, but if she does turn out to be orange, I'll ask Dollfair to consider placing a warning about colour differences between batches or inform the artist about the customer disappointment, like others have done. Just so others don't have to go through the same surprise. I was under the impression limwha tan was rather consistent and the tan in the pictures on the website is rather lovely.
Limhwa does make beautifully sculpted dolls, though.

But I'm glad my To L is French resin. If he turns banana yellow, it's something I knew about before placing the order and paying. ^_^

My boy arrived this evening, the orange isn't too bad on mine, but I am still disappointed because the sculpt just doesn't look a bit like the pictures. It may depend on many factors but the nose just looks entirely different, and the jawline as well.

Ps: here's a pic of him with the camera settings I normally use (xD makes him look really orange!)

    3. Other owner pictures made me think that the To Ls in the promo pictures look more boyish and the To Ls people got are more mature. In the end I don't mind, because I want to make mine look like a 30-something human, yet I did fell in love with the boyish face first.

Hopefully you'll end up liking him nonetheless, solarsenshi, or are able to sell if he's not too orangy. ^_^ He does look fab in your pictures and actually his clothes make him look young.

    4. solarsenshi - your boy looks lovely. Its hard to tell how orangey he is, compared with others in the thread.

kittymaru - I got a response back from Dollfair, they haven't passed it specifically to Limhwa, but Joan did say that they would pass my concerns/feelings to Limhwa. Did you dye your boy with Rit Dye? I am considering doing the same.

    5. :lol:I personally think offering a dreaming ToL head would be a nice comfort too...

No, seriously, that would imply someone admitting that something didn't quite go right, and taking responsibility. When I look around these days I see more than one company which does not seem to find this necessary anymore, and which evades open communication. (Thankfully, there are fine examples for very responsibly acting companies as well.) I say, live and learn.:pcupcake

*goes back to terracotta To L*

    6. I'm afraid I was brutally honest when I wrote to Dollfair. I know they never saw the dolls, but as the agent, they're also partly responsible for making steps toward some sort of resolution. I really just want some sort of acknowledgement from the artist that the tan went wrong. I'm kind of horrified to know I was deliberately sent an orange doll.

      Okay, ranty-pants off now. heh.

I dyed mine with Rit chocolate brown and then Rit navy blue. I used the cheap dyes in the boxes, too and maybe half a package of the brown in a 3 quart saucepan. I boiled water, then turned the burner down to simmer and added the dye. I also made sure my doll was squeaky clean before I dyed him, but mine felt a little funny and I wondered if he might've had some mold release on him. I also had to take off the face-up. I tried to dye it just as it was , but whatever sealant was on him turned very reddish and it had to go. I think I kept each part in my simmering dyebath for a count of four or so. I tested it on the back of the head piece first. After the first dyebath in brown, I did the same thing with the navy blue at about a quarter of the package and a count of 6 to 8. Rinse with cold water. Anyway, I hope that helps, and if I'm telling you stuff you already know, just ignore me.

I took some pictures of him outside and in different light he seems either more reddish or more yellow, but certainly not orange:

I'm really trying to like this doll, but I'm having a hard time getting over the fact that he arrived, well, orange.

    7. kittymaru - thanks for the amazing dyeing tutorial. I certainly didn't know what to do, so I really appreciate you writing that all down. Your boy looks very brown in comparison with the first pic of him next to your Dollshe boy. It seems that your dyeing expertise has brought him to a nice chocolatey colour. Having to alter a doll to that extent though because of a manufacturing fault really does kill your excitement for him/her. He's still a very beautiful boy.

I don't think that was a rant. I wish my email had been more brutally honest but I think I was just too shocked at the colour to write a coherent summary of my feelings regarding some sort of resolution. Surely showing a promo of a object for sale and then sending a completely different object is wrong. Limhwa do need to address this, and also reassure other people who purchased tan doll this time around that they will not be orange.

I wish we had been informed about this decision to change the tan resin before we ordered. I've been longing for a Tan Limhwa boy ever since I'd didn't order my Mano in Tan last year...it seems that was a big mistake.

    8. I'm agreeing with all of you here. I only placed the order for my sis and feel bad about her receiving a doll that turned out not to be the beautiful tan we are used to from Limhwa but orangey. So from the sales agent I would expect a little more than feeling bad, and I can't understand that your emails aren't translated and passed on to Limhwa so all of you can work on a resolution of this.

I have a lot of respect for Limhwa, she is a gifted sculptor, but everybody can make mistakes. She ought to have said beforehand that the tan ToL in the photos was not the tan you would get. If the color of the tan wasn't planned, then she could still have asked before she finished all dolls, if the tan is ok with everybody or if you'd rather switch to a different resin color.

I took a quick photo comparing tan resins of my and my sis' dolls here - that's a tan Domuya, an Iplehouse realskin hand, ToL and a tan Hound. Unfortunately we don't own any tan Limhwa dolls, only French Resin, but the orange coloring is obvious.

    9. We should write an e-mail with all our names under it or something x_x I don't know. I just feel sad about this whole thing.

But Limhwa/Dollfair is notorious for not fixing problems, sadly. I also feel they misrepresent the original Limhwa girls now since Limhwa changed the face-up to something that's entirely not my taste... and it doesn't look like the promo pictures any more.

    10. Maybe after today I can say if the orange tan was limited to the To L release or was also used for regular tan dolls (mail man should deliver today). I've wanted a tan SD sized doll for a while and decided to get one from Limhwa, because Limhwa not only has beautiful sculpts, but the tan promoted on the website is simply gorgeous. I've also seen very beautiful tan Limhwa dolls here on DoA, so the orange failtan is an unpleasant surprise.

If emails don't work, there's still the feedback thread. (Although, posting there is only a small satisfaction.)

I'm going to wait until I've seen my tan doll and then see what I'll do.

    11. Muisje, I am really interested in seeing what you will find in the mail!

Feedback thread is a good idea too, however small the effect is. You see, several people said that Dollfair/ Limhwa have a reputation for not fixing problems, and still we took all 16 To Ls off their hands within days. Including me, of course. That's why I'm thinking - which motivation should there be for Catrina and/or Limhwa to make the effort and change their ways? They'll still sell and earn.

And as I said, the same is true of some other companies as well. As long as we are not consequential in who we are buying from, why should they care?
It actually makes me very sad (and also a little shocked) to have said this, but I really think it's true. Thank God there are caring companies out there as well.

    12. Well, I received my dolls today and the box opening thread with pictures of my To L is here. My boy is handsome, but I couldn't really enjoy him yet due to some damage with my Eva (not her colour), but I have emailed Dollfair about that. [edit] I already got a reply.[/edit]

Here is a picture of the resin colour of my Eva: Click. She does photograph as orange most of the time, but she looks more like a dark chocolate in real life.

    13. i just got my to L... no words... i'm in love:fangirl::aheartbea

    16. If anyone is genuinely interested in being part of a letter to Dollyholic/Dollfair/Limhwa from all/as many of the Tan To L owners as would like, then PM me with your email address and we will organize something before any more time passes.

I am up for being a part of that. We should insist on some sort of response/explanation from Limhwa. The idea that we just sit here and accept a botched attempt to make a longed for and very expensive luxury item is ridiculous. I have affectively wasted $600. If he was anything else, I would have gone back to the shop and demanded a refund/replacement.

Personally I think a re-cast in the normal tan would not be too much to expect. Its obvious from Muisje's Eva that Limhwa has not forgotten how to make a beautiful tanned doll that corresponds in appearance to those she advertises on her site.

    17. I am a little torn, personally. I would be happy to offer my info in support of others without a problem.

However... mine actually works in that color for what I needed, or will easily enough once he's blushed, so I'm actually OK personally.

Awkward as it sounds, I think I'd need to see how it is worded first, if that makes any sense? I wouldn't ask for a recast myself, but I would certainly chime in with support for others who do want one made available as an appropriate remedy.

    18. I will definitely support you~ though I am okay with mine not being remade or anything...

    19. My To L is number 6.
He's wearing a suit for Dollmore's model boy.

I didn't expect this skin color.
But it is okay for me.
