Little Things That Make You Happy?

Jun 5, 2017

    1. I've got a few minutes to burn, and a few things to add to the list:
-The good, solid feeling of a big resin doll. I don't know how to explain it, but there's just...something about the SD size I love over all the others.
-My mom thinks that they are artworks, and has an appreciation for them. She even wants me to customize a boy for her to become her high elf:kitty2
-Most people I've told about the hobby have been supportive. One friend of mine really loves me showing them to her, and I can't wait to get the one I plan to put together for her done so she can have one of her own.:3nodding:
-creating a wig and having it work out precisely as you wanted.
-getting the opportunity to experiment with new materials to make things for bjds (like casting resin for urethane eyes. I've always been fascinated with that kind of thing, and I've been experimenting with making silicone molds and eye bases the past few days. Fun! :thumbup)
-Finding inspiration or good techniques in a video tutorial on YouTube.
-Finding that perfect monster-sized bag to lug my crew around in for meets in an awesome color, at a great price, at one of the local shops.
-Have a mod job turn out good instead of ending in disaster.:dance
-Having a cat that is perfectly fine being around the bjds, and has no inclination of bothering them, hurting them, or knocking them down. Even better when she wants to be in their company, especially for photo ops where she can pose and sit pretty, or curl up nicely with the gang. In general, I just love my mild mannered fur ball :kitty2
-Those class assignments that I can incorporate my bjds into. It makes the subject that much more enjoyable.
-The aesthetic of jointed hands. It allows for more realistic jointed movement and gesturing without having to buy separate hands for each.
-Getting a wardrobe for a character to come together.
      -

    2. I love it when looking for doll accessories and I come across something in the shops or the thrift store that I think "oh that might fit my doll" buy it, and it just fits perfect!! :)

    3. -when a seller includes a gift that is perfect for one of my dolls
-when a faceup comes together just right to bring out the character I had in mind
-when an item like a set of eyes or pair of shoes completes a doll just as I'd imagined
-when I receive an outfit and find it even more gorgeous than I expected
-when I find doll items in non doll places
      - the ridiculously cheap SD shoes on Amazon
-the feel of the weight of certain dolls like my EID and MDR
-being able to play with several different styles I don't actually want to wear (most of my dolls are wearing pretty dresses or extravagant 18th century-esque suits that I like looking at but under no circumstance would want on my person XD)

    4. - Watching an artist's progress from the rough clay form to the finished, cast doll
      - Pictures of dolls "in the wild", like the woods, a beach, the park...or even a city street! Any place that's outside, really...
      - Seeing the same sculpt customized by different owners
      - Learning new sewing techniques to fit fabric onto these unyielding bodies
      - Dressing a doll in a new outfit
      - Pictures that are so perfectly posed that I can't tell at first glance if it's a doll or a living person
      - Smuggling a tiny doll into work
      - Smuggling a tiny doll into the movies

    5. :love
      -Tiny food!
-sparkles eyes (with swarovski crystals like Oscar doll)
-look at the different types of certificates of authenticity, some are very cute
-open new packages, new arrivals independent of what they have (shoes, eyes, clothes, dolls)
-notes from second-hand sellers and gifts that come with purchases

    6. Checking tracking every 40 minutes for a pair of doll shoes that haven't even shipped yet.

    7. I’ve got a few:

-The weight of each of my SDs. It’s solid and comforting.

-The smell of their resin. It’s different for each one of them. My Luts boy, who I need to label as my favorite (Because he is!), has a pleasant, sharp scent to him that is kind of hard to describe. My Migidoll boy also has... I want to describe it as a mild, almost cologne smell, but I like the smell of the right kind of cologne, and I know other people don’t, so. :XD:
My MYou girl smells like maple syrup, and that is excellent.

-The feel of their resin. My Luts, once again, is my favorite because I like the eggshell feeling he has, but both my Migidoll and my MYou are pleasantly silky to the touch, and my MYou additionally has a softness to her that I adore!

-They’re all handsome and beautiful to look at. :XD:

Basically, if I were physically able to touch and hold BJDs before I bought them, I would be SO POOR.

    8. For me, getting a new doll and trying all of my eyes in them to see which pair is totally perfect. Or just taking an old doll and trying eyes in them post-faceup to see how different they look. Just. Putting eyes in and collecting eyes in general.

Also, checking all the dealers/marketplace/etc for the 8th time that week and finally stumbling upon that hard-to-find grail for sale. This might seem niche but it has actually happened to me a lot (My DZ Carter, DC Charles, Miracle Doll Zixin and most recently DC Hilary were like this.)

Also, the nice satisfying click of closing a magnetic headcap. Really satisfying for some reason.

    9. Cute little notes from sellers just make my heart melt! :chibi I also love getting a doll to pose just right or getting their face exactly how I wanted it. I'm still pretty inexperienced as a faceup artist so it can be a frustrating task doing a doll's face to my satisfaction and I relish it whenever I can achieve what I was going for. One of my favorite things is being on doa and getting to be surrounded by all these nice people that love dolls as much as I do :blush:aheartbea

    10. My minifee’s hands and collar bones! I think the fairyland hands are so elegant and I think the details in the sculpts are nice, like her collar bones. Browsing through pics on Instagram of people’s dolls. They show me so many possibilities and it’s interesting to see how the same dolls can look so different through styling. It gets me excited to play with mine!

yosd tiny clothes and shoes. I just love tiny things even though i don’t have a yosd.

    12. getting a tiny package from China that you had ordered a month ago
shoes arriving that fit your doll!!
Making eyes for the first time and having them be pretty (tonight's happy)
Finishing up an outfit and having it turn out in real life like it looked in your head
Making up a new outfit and realizing that you have everything you need for it in your stash
finding a hair straightener to make yarn wigs for FIVE DOLLARS!! (Five below)
nice notes and Etsy messages from sellers
sellers that do something custom and it's exactly what you wanted
      finding an amazing tutorial
finding a perfect fabric in proper scale
planning a project and actually having the stuff and the time to make it all at once!!
thinking of the perfect name for your doll

I feel like I could go on for pages. It is so satisfying to create things for dolls.

    13. Three things right now:
-my DC kid body's hips, how they look and feel (smooth as heck)
-my RS Ju's long elf ears (when she turns her head, I'm pretty sure she's poking the next door neighbour)
-my girlfriend playing with the aforementinoned doll's ears (there's a lot to poke and dig around there), it's cute and funny to watch

    14. Some of my top ones are:
-Seeing a sculpt I have styled completely differently from mine
-Posing one of my double jointed dolls
-Looking at the elf ears some of my dolls have

    15. My doll's little smile cheers me up a lot. Also his little feet and hands :) I love when I make things for him and they fit perfectly and look too cute, also I love how my friends who arent in the hobby love my doll also!

    16. -opening tiny packages
      -taking pictures of my dolls
-looking at other people's doll pictures an reading how much they love them :)
-finding doll stuff at unusual places :3
-Tiny objects in general, like tiny headphones/shoes/glasses/chairs etc. I love miniature-sized things

    17. :)
      • Having so many different dolls with different expressions. They make my space feel full
      • The porcelain-texture of my Little Monica doll
      • The way each faceup makes a doll more "themself"
      • Getting notes from sellers
      • Being able to take fun pics just because, no pressure

    18. I love finding the PERFECT fabric for cute little dresses. It's funny, the more fabric I buy, the clearer my dolls character becomes in my head.

    19. - Unoa hands
      - looking at gallery photos and arrival photos
      - testing eyes and wigs
      - small food, small books
      - night-time dreams about dolls

Adding to my list, this is fun:
      - looking back at older photos I’ve taken and getting inspired
      - listening to a friend’s doll story unfold over time
      - amazing photos by others of a sculpt I own, very inspiring (not to copy but to stretch my imagination to improve my doll in my own way too.)
      - seeing a ‘new-to-me doll’ and finding out it’s still available and for sale...
      - spending the entire rainy afternoon with endless cups of tea and looking at doll hand photos. *_*

    20. Tbh my favourite thing is the suspense waiting for the mail, i also love that dolls can bring my thoughts to images that's also why I'm so excited to draw plans for some doll furniture (I have a neurological disorder meaning I don't see images in my head/thoughts I don't even dream in images)
