Luts Grand Senior Delf Discussion

Dec 12, 2020

    1. Aw, that's disappointing :/ Your wallet's probably thankful tho :')

The new heads are pretty as always, but no one sparked serious interest in me tbh. I do have Mars on my wishlist though, so my plan is to get him on the new GSDF body eventually ♡

    2. Honestly, same. I like them all but not enough to buy one. I prefer seeing them on photos by fellow collectors and admiring them from afar. :> I'd love to see your Mars if you ever get one, too! The more tall handsome boys the better. :evilplot:

    3. Well, that's it. I need a Helios in bubble mint or lavender... I am so happy these skin tones are available again and I really love the new sculpts!

    4. Btw, guys, where you find shoes for your 75 cm dolls? This size is so hard... I saw so much clothes and shoes for 70cm but it looks like find clothes and shoes for 75 cm will be a challenge. I found some shops with clothes in this size, but still no big choice and real problem with shoes:(

    5. For me, I've been getting my shoes right from the LUTS website... which can be expensive unless it's a sale! They don't seem to have a huge variety at the moment for the GSDF but the few I've purchased have fit perfectly! Moonlight BJD also seems to get a lot of 75cm doll shoes as well but I also think a lot of their stock can be found on taobao for a lot cheaper. Unfortunately, I am not savvy with taobao or know a lot about it, so if you wanted to go that route because I know a lot of people find bjd shoes (specifically for 75 cm guys) there, you'll just have to do a little research about how to shop from there. :) Hope some of that helps!

    6. Thanks! And I found yesterday one shop on Etsy which is reseller as many there, but it has more variety of shoes for 75cm dolls and also clothes for a lower prices than I saw some of these items in another shops (not on Etsy only), so now I am not worried about shoes :D And yeah, some shoes in Luts shop also looks interesting for me, so that I added some to my wishlist there:thumbup

    7. I've loved Mars since I first saw him but the size got me wondering whether or not I'd dare get a GSDF. I know for sure now that I want him in the Bronco Skin. A while back he became part of a doll background story I'm working on so I know I'll eventually get him, just don't know when.

But I would be needing a doll stand for a large doll like that. So what kind of doll stands do you guys use, and where can I get them?

    8. I've been looking at Saturn and Abadon for awhile but i haven't really seen any pictures of them that aren't stock! Does anyone have any pictures of theirs? Would be much appreciated c:

    10. Nooooooooooooo, I don't need another Diez.

    11. The Diez head is so tiny on that massive body :XD:

      • x 1
    12. It really is. Thankfully you can buy just his head.

    13. Diez has always been cute but he really looks too young for this type of body orz :aeyepop::aeyepop:

    15. I'm not so into the ripply back, but that is one pinchable dolly butt :abambi:

    16. Um, this new 78 cm guy. Does it have magnetic private parts?

I find it a bit strange that it is made same as the Muse body, or am I missing something :sweat

    17. Please don't bite me for what I'm about to say, I just want to get it off my chest, but I'm really not into the new guy - also not into this trend of overly muscular, bubbly, goofy looking dudes with tiny heads (with relatively conventional faces) and Barbie-like (aka, no realism between the legs) bodies. I don't see the appeal and at the risk of sounding inflammatory, Luts sort of feels like they went from their own unique thing to just someone's 3D tech project? Like all of their new dolls seem to strange to me and not Luts-like, very trend oriented, and this takes the cake so far. No offense to anyone if you're into the new body, we can all like what we like! And obviously there's appeal since this trend is everywhere now, but to me it just seems so far off from them and it's a little confusing. Dolls are definitely getting bigger too and I'm over here like... how do yall have the arm strength for that XD I can barely dress my Idealians. I wish more than anything the heads weren't so tiny though. I think that'd make a big difference in my opinion (minus the lack of anatomy realism). I'm really into Vega though and I hope they sell his head separately. His face is great, but I'd like to put him on a different body. It's nice to see him all grown up lol

    18. I think I have to agree with you. I look at it and and wonder what would I do with something so big and muscular?!

But making it have no realistic anatomy there however were the one thing that bothered me most. I were really surprized to see it have nothing there. For something so masculine and manly, to have nothing at all, seems like a strange choice to me. It kind of feels wrong :sweat Not that I want a doll this large, but still it's not the same having the 78 cm one together with the regular 75 cm GSDF, as it feels like they don't belong to the same world. All my dolls are anatomically correct except from one who are modded genderless because of their character, and my tinies, and I prefer it that way.

I think in this case what would have been better is if the downstairs were magnetic, so that you could choose whether you wanted it all flat like that or for your doll to be all anatomically correct.

    19. @Littlebirdzoom
I agree with you too. Been saying something similar ever since Luts first released the newest Super Senior Delf male bodies. Luts used to be my favorite company not only for their style but also for their consistency with a few thing. The first is their resin. I have Luts resin that has a 10 year time difference yet matches exceptionally well. I hope they still have this consistency but some of their newer tans and fantasy colors are too new to have a big range of years to compare. The second was their head compatibility. How if you wanted your Senior Delf to be taller, you could get a Senior Delf 65 or Super Senior Delf body and it would fit. Or vise versa. Even the SD event heads could be used on many sizes. But the newest SSDF bodies have a much larger neck. And other new body releases don't seem to follow that prior consistency often.

I hate complaining about this since Luts has been consistency releasing new dolls and working on new projects. I just miss their old style. And I wish they would show love to their Delf males with a very much needed upgraded body. Or their Baby Delf with more fantasy heads since they only ever made one that was limited. :eusa_pray

    20. The reason behind this is because you're basically bang on about the trend-only-oriented-3D-tech-project comment. I will share my insight on this topic from the persepctive of the Korean doll community of my experience.

LUTS has long been known in Korea for pushing the line extremely hard into the territory of other's styles to an uncomfortable extent, resulting in stepping on people's toes many times and accusations of stealing. In recent years, their habit of hopping on the trend train has become really evident, with a lot of sculpts looking very close to others and seemingly lacking much LUTS originality. Some of the more obvious ones are TIDE and VEGA (SWITCH aesthetics), NEPTUNE and EDDY (LeMoon), the current OBERON and ANTARES (SOOM RPhonolus/SOOM Narmer) and RAS ALGETHI (Iplehouse Leonard). There are cases where their bodies were also heavily inspired by current trends such as the GSDF (SOOM ID75) and the current GSDF78 (The Voice Eagle). Supposed insider information is that LUTS saw how well The Voice sold on their website, and they're prone to buying products of other companies and copying the aesthetics rather than creating their own, so this latest one was based on the popularity of The Voice's Eagle body. You can see the image below for the comparison:

The entire shape of the arms, chest, and joints is very telling in my opinion. The Voice is currently still the only 75 body in the market which employs those joints for the elbows, and it's also a design that LUTS has never once done before on any of their bodies. It's often said that usually when companies and sculptors release new dolls and designs, there are still elements of similarities because everyone has their own aesthetic. But the Korean community is often confused about LUTS' products that don't match each other at all, which is believed to be due to the fact that they like to eyeball the designs of others/buy other dolls and make very similar things according to what is on trend.

Their new head RAS ALGETHI has also stirred up commotion for stepping too closely on the lines of Iplehouse's Leonard, but in particular, you may even recognise the entire aesthetic as the Leonard of one particular Chinese artist's doll (known by @littleoverbearingceo on IG and @BJD_bighammer on Twitter, 小霸总的衣橱 on Weibo). Although her company made a cooperation to provide wigs and have them act as an agent for their new doll line (Lost Myth Doll), she expressed discomfort at how closely their new doll resembled her own. You can see the comparison images below of her Leonard and LUTS' Ras Algethi promotion images below:

      [IMG] [IMG]

So, if they pissed so many people off, why hasn't anyone said anything? Actually, people have, but it's difficult to do anything about it because LUTS rides the line very finely. If you look at the blank images of their heads, there is a noticable difference between them and those from other companies in which they resemble, just enough that you can definitively say in most cases it's not the same. But it's the way that they faceup the dolls and style them to resemble dolls of other companies and mimic their styles that really grates on those that feel like they've been infringed on. The similarities are simply too close for comfort to be unintentional.

In regards to who fought back, their most well known case in the Korean community is their lawsuit with SOOM, where SOOM accused them of plagiarism when the GSDF body first came out. I wasn't around for it and a lot of drama was locked behind anonymous bulletin boards and the social media of the time (now since deleted tweets etc.) but the overarching gist of it is something to do with one of SOOM's sculptor's leaving and working for LUTS. They made the GSDF body when 75s were not too commonplace yet still and ID75 was still one of the only major competitors, so they were sued for making something really similar. The sculptor made some claims to the effect of 'I sculpted everything at SOOM and made the ID75 body so I can use it', but all of SOOM's products are a team project and designed as a team, so there is no sole owner of their products. I do not know the end result of the lawsuit or if there was ever a resolution.

There is also a known case where they allegedly completely stole the 'Holiday' body sculpted by Rosenlied, and when Rosenlied made claims against them, they were essentially squashed and bullied in to submission being unable to fight LUTS as an entire company with just the few employees they have. There are also claims of them stepping too closely on the concepts of VOLKS before in the past, but I do not know of any specific cases of this to personally speak of.

In my personal opinion, their products draw too closely on the lines of others, and I also do not enjoy the new body that has been 'sculpted by them' because it seems a bit ridiculous in proportions to me (although it's fine if you like it aesthetically). I was once also a fan of their dolls, and in fact, my first doll was a LUTS doll, but I've become increasingly disappointed with their releases and also my findings of them in the Korean community. You can take what I say with a grain of salt, these are my personal experiences and findings, and there may be various small inconsistencies, but I believe the overarching information still stands.
