1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Market place ETHICS (not rules) and the lack of!!

Mar 21, 2008

    1. Yah...someone who buys from you via "payments" can, at any time, tell paypal that you have not sent the item. Paypal will automatically find against you just for that. Even if you tell them that you had a payment arrangement for the idividual, and that they had not yet finished paying you, they can still file a claim based on the idea that you never sent the product that 'they had paid for'. This is what happened to me. When i was selling my doll, i told the individual strictly that there were no refunds. That way, she would know for certain before hand that she was sure she wanted the doll. This is what my fault was. I took payments, and even though she had not finished paying, she filed a claim on the basis of me having not sent the doll yet.

Bottom line is, that the whole 'i'll take payments for the doll" thing is a good way to find yourself in a bad situation. :(

I just don't like the fact that people can file a claim so easily, even though i know it's to make things so safe. Sometimes, it seems that Paypal protects the buyers, at the cost of the seller. Seller's get scammed too. I've seen a number of times that people have sent the item the person bought, and then STILL ended up having to fight the buyer, because they tried to file a claim, to scam the seller.

    2. Maybe I'm too nice, I didn't even think people could do such things! However I've felt terrible because once I asked if I could think about a doll over the weekend but by Sunday I realised I couldn't buy her. I pmed the lady and although she never replied I hope she wasn't mad at me - I still feel so guilty about it and I would still love to own that doll.

    3. not only can they do it, but it can happen often. I've heard all too many times of someone either doing what they did to Whitewings, or, taking the doll, after it was shipped out, then turning around and trying to file a claim. It's enough to make people take a money order only.

    4. comicbookartistboi: It is a horrible shame that sellers have second to no protection. Because of this I will, if possible, always require the buyer pay for Delivery Confirmation as that is the best line of protection against a "not recieved" claim. Also, I am so skeptical on the entire system that I NEVER under ANY circumstances leave ANY money in my paypal account. Once I recieve a payment, the bank transfer process is begun that day. If I need to refund money I can always take it back out my account, but this way paypal cannot instantly side with the buyer and simply move your paypal funds to their account. The only thing they can do is go to the bank account you have registered (or credit card) in an attempt to get the claim money, but that way you have the bank's protection and you as a seller can file a claim against paypal through the bank as a fraugilant withdraw. It is sad that so much work has to be done as a seller to protect yourself in the slightest

    5. I have seen this sort of thing happen many times. I've seen the reverse and sellers selling dolls that they don't even have and the buyer out of over a thousand dollars. It is very sad and unfortunate that people do things like this. Whenever I buy a doll that I put on layaway, I consider that a binding contract and if ever I had an emergency and had to back out I would surely let the seller know. Hopefully, I would never be in that situation as I don't buy what I can't afford. I buy from doll stores and artists that sell OOAK or silicone baby dolls. Most of them take NON refundable deposits so the seller has some sort of compensation for their time if the buyer backs out.

    6. I would actually go for signature confirmation since it makes it so that someone has to sign to tell them that they have received the item. Instead of leaving it on a doorstep or something. It's only a little bit more and I think that people should pay for it. Like if it is anything like really big or expensive.

    7. I've only bought one thing. But I'm starting to put things up for a business and such. The person I commision from was a mazing but we didn't have any problems or anything like that going on.

I mean we know people have money problems, we have them ourselves, but sometimes its just about not being big eyed-ed. As my mom calls it. Just becuase your working on a deal with someone for something. You've got to stay true and make the payments. When you can't well then I don' Know. Treat it like its a credit card. Your rates go up and such. You've got to do the best job you can to make it easy.

In this day and age its not hard to think someone would want to swindle you out of your things, but really lets use common sense; that means braincells people!

    8. As a buyer I make quite certain with my finances first then I go looking for the things I need .

When I find it I make sure that the thing is actually in the shape I want /color/modl whatever. Then check the sellers feedback. Then proceed.

I would never change my mind at the end of a transaction .I think the seller would have to do something pretty drastic for me to want my money back or if they sent a broken or damaged item or wrong item.

I once waited 2 months for some shoes to come from a seller who has high feedback. She told me a sob story which I didnt quite beilve but I didnt give her grief for it.The shoes arrived finally. Will I ever buy from her again? Not likley.

Now my poilcy is I will wait one month then file a paypal claim no matter what the story.
its just hard to trust people even with good feedback.

As a seller I have offered layaway on items such as clothes and heads. Most people have been great but some just stop paying even though they know they will not get their money back .Its weird.

One thing that is kinda scary is that i am seeing a trend in reputable sellers going 'bad' taking a persons money and then vanishing off the board. And these are big ticket items like whole dolls or doll parts for mods.
Maybe its the global economy right now I dont know but it seems like buying these days is a adventure and a different experience each time...

    9. Wow...wow....wow... That's quite scary!!!:o:o:o
      I'm doing Luts group order.
And, many of them don't want to use tracking numbers due to expensive shipping method. I can understand that.
But, I really hope they don't do that me when I show them the proofs of mailing their packages.

Honestly, I'm really scared that buyer files the claim after he/she receives his/her package when there is no tracking number available. *Sigh* Now, I'm getting more concerned because PayPal seems more protective of buyers rather than sellers.:(

    10. Dear god USE TRACKING!!!
I know things can get expensive but most people will blame you if the package doesn't arrive. If they file a paypal claim you will be at fault.

    11. Oh, man... You're scaring me!!! :...(
But, they don't want tracking numbers because of expensive shipping method.

I'll definitely use the proofs of Canada Post receipts and another copy of Custom Declarations with Canada Post Outlet Stamp.
Is that possible to fight it back?

    12. From dealing with international shipping before I had an item not get to the person in 2 months though I was in constant communication with them. The item did get to them though. Communication is the key and I hope the people do realize that if the item is lost you should not be at fault since they chose the option of opting out for a cheaper and riskier method of shipping.

The thing is that paypal in this case if there is no tracking method will side with the people (if) a claim is made. It's just a statistic that more packages are lost that don't have tracking numbers compared to the 3-5 lost yearly with those that have tracking.

As long as there is communication there shouldn't be a problem, but making them pay for tracking as a sure fire way of them getting their item would still have been the best.
I've had to do EMS on some very light things (a video game) but I knew it would get to me and if it was lost I would have been able to get a full refund for my item, instead of being out 70$. There is insurance just incase EMS/Tracked packages are lost so in the long run they are WAY better to use in a worst case senario.

    13. If something comes into or out of the country, it automatically has tracking, because of the customs forms.....however, if you want tracking, you need to either A) insure it, or B) put delivery confirmation on it. Either way will make it trackable. If someone says "I don't want tracking", i'd say "TOUGH POO!, as a buyer, you should have no problem agreeing to the tracking, because it protects ME and YOU incase the package gets lost and a claim is in order.".

Don't let someone tell you that they don't want tracking!!! NOT EVER!!! it is the only proof you have that you actually SENT the package!

    14. I wonder if it's just that some people don't approach this hobby with a business mindset. Or with a logical mindset -_-;; Like, ah... you know... Buying things aren't a joke, and money has got consequences and rules attached to it, so it ain't no Sunday picnic.

There is a difference between whining to mummy about how much you want something and trying the same thing on a seller who is looking for some tangible exchange, you know?

I think everybody needs to take a little economics 101, because the way some people act around money scares the daylights outta me.

    15. I'm hosting Luts Group Order.
And, I sent 2 pms to this member about new total payment on May 21 and 24.

Today (May 24), he/she posted several replies on forum here.
But, the strangest part is he/she didn't read and even respond them.

What am I going to do?

    16. Well, miakyou - I am not a part of it, but I know that people in your goup order are quite upset at you. You did not give people a choice for shipping costs to begin with - shipping from Canada to the US is not that expensive.

Also, it was VERY bad business sense to refund people's money without any warning/communication and expecting even more shipping without giving them any choice in the matter. Some people prefer cheaper shipping, even without insurance. It is not a problem to put a disclaimer in your thread that you are not responsible for items lost in the mail.

It was an especially bad idea to do this AFTER you placed the order with Luts.

Ultimately, people are paying $20 for a couple of $1 items that could have been shipped in a padded envelope for $3, without having any choice in the matter. So, don't be surprised that people are reluctant to communicate with you at this point.

    17. I've been excited about the prospect of participating in the marketplace section. Been using ebay and paypal with good standing for years. This post makes me wary....

    18. Most people aren't in it to rip you off. But sometimes it can get frustrating. But remember this is just a small amount. Most people are there in the market place and are being nice... They're not trying to rip you off or being a hindrance.

    19. Actually, I'm asking for tracking number for their packages.
That's why the shipping cost for tracking number is more expensive.

I'm not ashamed to admit that it's indeed very bad idea to do that after I placed with Luts.
The reason I changed my mind is after I read bad experiences from this thread, they gave me important knowledge that
more buyers now can file paypal's claim even after he/she receives his/her package when there is no tracking number available.
That is what I am very concerned about that.

Oh well, it's okay that he/she didn't want to reply me :=)
Of course, I won't give him/her negative feedback since it is part of my fault.
Personally, I rather sell the item in the marketplace to a buyer with tracking number.

    20. Thank you for the positive spin Kaiser-Serena. When I started buying/selling on eBay years ago there was also much dreary talk. Fortunately I've had nothing but great experiences eBaying. Hopefully this will carry over to the MarketPlace.

      Cheers,
