Maskcat 57cm Dolls - part 2

May 2, 2017

    1. Congrats Jane!! Can't wait to see your new girl :)

I'm so mad - my Ronia was supposed to be delivered today. I pre-paid my DHL fees online and authorized for the package to be left without signature, but the company that delivers DHL packages in my area didn't get the notice from DHL (or that's what they claimed, who knows) so they left an attempted delivery notice on my door AND it says I still owe the charges I paid. I called the company and they were so unhelpful  Fingers crossed everything goes smoothly when they attempt delivery again on Monday

    2. Oooh that would be so frustrating!!!

Does anyone have photos of several maskcat girls together? Do the different molds look different enough?

      • x 1
    3. Oh how maddening! And so disappointing at the same time too!
I so hope everything is sorted for a hassle free delivery on Monday *fingers crossed*

    4. Here you go....heads only of Nerine on the left and Margo on the right. They are both in the normal colour resin.

I know the face-ups and eyes will make a huge difference...........but I think you can see here just how different the actual sculpts are too.

    5. That is great! They look a lot different when next to each other - and so pretty! I've decided to get a tan Nerine.

    6. @Melly123 They really are different....aren't they! I was quite taken aback at just how different they were actually.

And I am really enjoying playing my new Margo doll.......the body swap was easy.
What is not so easy is deciding how to dress and style her. But at least I know her name.......she settled on Eloise. I think it really suits her.

And great news about your decision to order a tan Nerine....what fun!

    7. @Xiaolie
Your Tara is lovely! I love her freckles and carrot wig:D I always admire someone who can do the face-up and make dresses for their dolls.

      @Jane
Congratulations! Good to hear your Margo is alright now! My girl's eye-sockets are not even as well, but fortunately it didn't affect the eye wearing. Looking forwards to meet your Margo!

The Guu doll body has arrived yesterday night! My Liz (I named her 'Sofia' ) finally got her won body! I've spent a whole day spraying UV cut sealant and re-stringing. I only have enough time for few pictures

I'm not gonna do a detailed review of the Guu doll. There are some useful reviews in the Guu doll thread and Youtube already. Just a few things I'd like to say:
      1) The sanding is bad. It's uneven and some little scratches over the body . I mean the sanding of Maskcatdoll body is already not good enough but Guu doll? Even worse. I tried to do some simply sanding but didn't help much. It definitely needs some proper modification. (but I don't know how to do it) But it's still OK because you will not see them after your doll gets dressed.....AND it was cheap!

      2) Since the neck Circumference of Maskcatdoll is 8.8 cm while Guu doll is 9.5 cm....there is no surprise that the neck looks a little bit longer, but I personally it's acceptable.

      3) The string is tight, but it sits well and the poseability is quite good. I was surprised that it got a stopper on her chest, which I wish my Maskcatdoll body had, so it won't flap backwards like my Fargo often did.

      4) I only 4 different types of bodies (Luts, Volks, Maskcatdoll and IOS) so maybe it's just me not seeing enough doll bodies...but the feet sculpt of Guu doll is the most ugliest feet I've ever seen....BUT it was cheap!
Beside the feet, the body shape is quite pretty.

      5) Since Guu doll has no pink skin I order a NS (said to be similar to Volks NS) for my girl (pink skin). I was worried about the colour difference but it turns out the skin colour is more on the pink side (Volks is more yellower). I can't say it matched my Sofia perfectly but the colour difference is not obvious.

    8. @Moria_ash.......great that Sofia (your Liz) has her own body now. I take this body was significantly cheaper than a Maskcat one.
It is such a shame that your Maskcat body doesn't sit well *sigh*
I love the Maskcat body I have for my girls

And I am still trying to find the 'right' wig for my Eloise (Margo) and to decide what style of dress she would like to wear too.
It is fun having a new doll.

    9. On sitting, I was just playing with my Ruolan on the original body. She does have little hip scoops on the upper legs. When those are engaged on the back of the hip socket, she sits very well. They can easily be overlooked and it does take a bit of practice to use them.

    10. Eloise is a perfect name!

    11. Just a photo so you can see where I am with my Margo doll
I am having a blast with her........I have never had a SD doll with such small eyes before either

I am absolutely thrilled how my plans have worked out so far.

Does anyone have two Maskcat girls in both the NS and the pink resin please? I would like to see the difference in colour in owner photos if possible.

    12. @Jane She is lovely! She reminds me of Tavi Gevinson. What size eyes does she wear? 14mm?

At Doll North, Maskcat donated 3 heads - Melodie in pink, Lisette in normal, and Margo in white. Keep in mind the lighting in this photo is not great (basement ballroom in a hotel) but I think it shows the contrast in colour quite nicely. I was surprised that the normal was more golden than I expected; I thought normal was supposed to be a match for Volks NS, but seeing it in person I would say that pink is closer to Volks NS.

My Ronia arrived today! Unfortunately she has noticeable scratches on her cheek and eyebrow.

I emailed Banyo about it, and she said she will send a replacement head as soon as possible and that I can keep this one! Now what am I going to do with TWO Ronias...? :D

The tan resin colour is beautiful as well, although there are some sanding imperfections, in particular a pale patch below her navel and, really weirdly, the tip of one nipple :XD: But so far I am loving this body! She stands and sits like a rock, and I love the added mobility from the upper torso joint.

    13. @Jane
Your Eloise is adorable and her dress is elegant. She looks like she's the owner of the house behind her and she's just having a walk in the garden.
      @kuro
Congrats! Tan Ronia is attractive. My Fargo (Margo) and Edin (Evelyn) wears 14~15.5 mm but Sofia (Liz) wears 16mm Osar eyes. 16mm made her look more...innocent? I guess.
And thank you so much for the colour comparison. All my girls are pink so it is amazing to see NS and WS placed side by side with PS. I'm surprised how pale the WS is...it looks a bit...greenish...? to me. And the NS is much yellower than I thought.
As you mentioned about Volks NS, I got a picture for you

***Please notice that the body is from Guu doll (NS) but it matches the head very well (there is no noticeable colour difference) . I think Volks NS is right at the middle of Maskcatdoll NS and PS.

    14. @kuro and @Moria_ash Thank you both about my Margo girl. I am over the moon thrilled with her, but I am surprised just how much of a yellow undertone the Maskcat NS has. It wasn't until I put the two heads together that I saw just how much blushing my Nerine head had.
And I am going to assume that I am using 12mm eyes, as there is very slight gapping in the corner of the left eye (but it is very slight). I can't be sure about the size though but they are very small and I think they were bought for my Unoa girls a long time ago.
I tried them in her as a joke and found that I really liked how much life they gave to my doll......almost a sternness (or determination) that wasn't there with the larger eyes. The larger eyes gave her a much softer look and I didn't know who she was.

@kuro Congratulations on the delivery of tan Ronia.....but what a shame about the scratches *sigh* I know that tan resin always has 'issues' but scratches on a face are simply not acceptable.
And personally I would sell the spare head as a 'seconds' but only when the replacement one has arrived!
Do you know how long you have to wait for a replacement?

And thank you both for all the comparison photos........much appreciated.
As I mentioned above I have been surprised to see just how yellow the NS is. But I absolutely love my new girl and am just so inspired by her. Beautiful as my Nerine undoubtedly is, this girl has so much more character in her and I can't stop picking her up and imagining her story!

    15. @Moria_ash Thank you for the full body shot! Volks NS and Maskcat PS look nice together :)

@Jane I agree - I am not too bothered by the pale navel, sanded-off nipple, scratches on the back of the headcap, or even some marbling in her shoulder joint, particularly because Maskcat is a small studio. (If it was on my incoming FCS Sunlight girl though, you can bet Volks is getting a stern email!!). But the face has to be perfect! Banyo suggested I clean it with a wet Magic Eraser and it did help a little bit (albeit under a desk lamp at night - I suspect under natural light tomorrow it will still be very visible) but it's still there. Banyo said it won't take 40 days like the full doll, and she'll let me know when it ships. So hoping it's soon!

    16. @kuro I got a flurry of emails telling me to use a damp magic sponge on my doll too! Nouma must have been busy sending emails to you and me.
I was lucky and the black dirt marks did go with a little wipe.
But I was very worried about doing it, as I didn't want to damage the face-up or wipe off the MSC!

And I hope that your the replacement head arrives sooner than my head did!
I am guessing that because I had a face-up on the head I ordered that is why it took so long for my order to ship. I ordered my Margo head on 30th May and she wasn't shipped until the 4th June!

But I have to say I am absolutely besotted with my new doll..........

She is just so much fun.
I am so pleased that I bought this head as I gained a doll with a lot more personality than my Nerine head has. I love my Nerine doll (Karenza) but she is just a sweet and pretty doll......whereas Miss Eloise Carter is a force to be reckoned with! LOL!

    17. Yesterday I gave my Ronia her first faceup :) I have a rough idea of what I want her to look like, but I'm not very good at planning faceups, so I just did what seemed interesting and I'll keep what I like for the next iteration and change what I don't. So far, I like the lips but I definitely want to change the angle of the brows to make her more assertive. I think I'm going to play with her freckles, too. Well, anyways, here's Poppy 1.0 :XD:

    18. Oh gosh! She is gorgeous! I don't have your vision for this doll in my mind so all I see is an amazing face-up! Did you manage to hide the scratches? I can't see them at all now.
I had to say that I adore the freckles just as they are....you are so clever.
      Welcome to Poppy 1.0

What size eyes are you using in her?
And have you tried smaller ones at all?

      • x 1
    19. Thanks, @Jane! The sealant seems to have filled in and covered the scratches pretty well. She's wearing 16mm Enchanted Doll marble eyes. I haven't tried smaller, and I don't know if it's even possible to get these same colour and style eyes again! I got them at the Doll North dealer room but it seems that Enchanted Doll is not offering the same colour anymore.
