Maskcat 57cm Dolls - part 2

May 2, 2017

    1. That helps immensely!! Thank you so much!

    2. @twylight - You're so welcome! I have gone down the "hybrid research" rabbit hole many times, so I've seen some rare combinations!

    3. @StellaMarigold This is my first hybrid hunt and it's hard finding just the *perfect* body with the look and the posing and the measurements. Oddly Maskcat doll had been a company I'd liked for a long time so when it started to work on paper I was like ""no... wayyyy" Hopefully I'll have a beautiful Maskcat body this year that I'll be able to share!

    4. Great minds think alike it seems. I’m also getting a Maskcat body for my Blackcherry Ichigo. It should arrive sometime this summer!

    5. I hope everything works out for both of you! I'm horribly picky about bodies, so I completely understand agonizing over posing, measurements, etc.

    6. Oooh definitely favouriting that Maskcat/Black Cherry info... I've always wanted a XiaoYu! Anyone know how the resin match is?

I received my Margo and Willow! They're blank for now and I probably won't have time to paint them for a while, but I am loving the 3.0 body! It's much lighter than the 2.0 and the posing is beautiful.

    7. @kuro - I love both Maskcat and Black Cherry!

As far as resin match goes - I used to own some Black Cherry Aishat heads, and the Black Cherry NS is very pale - almost like Dollshe Fresh (before they changed it to be pinker and more saturated). It has a pinkish tone, but not very pink (not as pink as Dollmore NS, for example). It is a beautiful very pale light pink-cream color.

My Maskcat girl, on the other hand, despite being Normal Pink, looks much more creamy. To me her color more resembles ivory with a little pink, and although I can't compare in person not owning the Aishat heads anymore I am quite sure it is also darker than the Black Cherry resin was. But a head could easily be blushed to match a body!

    8. I have been hunting for photos of a few of these girls with company face up in tan. It seems everyone that gets tan gets them blank, does anyone have Astrid, Yael, Frances, Margo or Lisette in tan with Maskcat faceup? I am having a real hard time deciding which one to get, but not knowing what the faceup will look like on the tan has me dragging my feet. I feel like faceups look so different from skin tone to skin tone.

    9. OMG thank you, I looked through IG and didn't see those, but I was looking for only Frances and Ronia at the time. Right now I am looking at ALL the sculpts through the tags to see if I can find one I like best. The stock photos do not do them justice so now I am looking at every 1/3 sculpt they have available.

      Edit:
One more question, how is the posing? They look really good from what I can see. I am leaning toward Yael or Francis. Yael is in stock, which has me heavily leaning towards her.

      Edit again:
Well I went with Yael. I am nervous. I swore off 1/3 dolls, but recently I was wanting a Smartdoll again but I have reasons not to go that route. These look more poseable, but also can wear a lot of the same stuff from what I am reading.

    10. @jenlovesdolls the posing on them is absolutely amazing! My Lisette is the best poser of all my resin girls (Dollzone, Luts)
Yael is so beautiful, wonderful choice!

    11. That is great to know! I am spoiled by my 1/6 girls that pose amazingly well (Atelier Momoni and Tender Creation) I tend to compare everything to them. I can't wait to get her <3

    12. I will second the posing being really good! The only thing that "limits" the body (to my mind) is the lack of a second joint in the torso, because if she had one she could bend further at the waist, hug her knees closer, etc. But even without that joint I think the posing is excellent and very graceful. She can sit cross-legged, sit on the backs of her legs, bring her knees to her chest, etc (all poses that are important to me). and her arms, especially wrists, have a great range of motion. Plus those gorgeous expressive hands are a huge bonus.

I was nervous myself, being picky about posing, but I'm really pleased and am contemplating more Maskcat dolls in the future! (My Juni is in NS but I'd love to see WS and TS in person, too).

I hope you love your Yael when she arrives!

    13. @jenlovesdolls : Yaël is so beautiful, she is my first (and favorite) too.^^ (You could always get Frances at a later occasion). Please post pictures, I'd love to see more of Yaël on this forum.

IMO the second joint at the torso, while it adds mobility, reduces stability as well (It also add a line across the torso and I am not fond of it aesthetically-speaking, but since it's on a boy body, I am less fussed about it). My IOS boy has one and I often consider gluing it together. I may just do that one of these days.

I think the Nakana workshop body has an interesting torso if one looks for mobility but I don't know how stable it is.

    14. That sounds perfect, those are the poses I love as well! I really wish there was a way to see all the dolls I want in person (I can tell you that it would have saved me a ton of money over the years if I were able to see all the dolls I ever bought in person before buying them lol)

Oh, if I love her there is no doubt I would probably want to get her a friend at a later date (I will for sure post pictures). I like a lot of mobility, but too much can definitely be a deterrent too! I usually will go with 2 part torsos over 3 part if I have a choice for that reason, as well as the asthetic.

Oh, I have seen that Lisette, she is gorgeous!!

I can't do my own faceups and artists work that I love are either out of budget or booked solid forever...or both! I try to go with company faceup, but I have noticed that most only show the standard faceups on one skin tone. It is usually the skin tone I don't want. I will go with darker skin tone almost every time if I have a choice, but not being able to see the standard faceup on the other tones makes it hard. Skin tone can make the faceup look so different. I wish artists would show an example in each skin tone they offer, but I understand why that may be difficult.

    15. @jenlovesdolls - Oh, I so agree about seeing dolls in person! I would have saved money, too haha. But the reality for me is that I don't know anyone at all in my area who collects bjds, and I'm also veery introverted, so I don't want to travel.

I was posing Juni today and wanted to note that the "sitting on the backs of the legs" isn't a total - back-of-thighs-to-back-of-the-heels pose (her calves are a little too chubby for that -- she's not quite as slim as some of the Bimong dolls!) but she can still balance in this position and her ankles are flexible enough that her feet don't get in the way. It's a cute pose!

Edited to add: @lyaam12 - I have definitely heard of second torso joints being a pain to deal with for some sculpts. My experience with them is mostly through Bimong and 1/4-size fashion dolls so the engineering was good enough that they worked well and didn't pop out. I like a lot of flexibility myself, but I can see how a poorly designed extra torso joint would be annoying!

    16. I am introverted as well, although people don't think so. I am extremely chatty, but that could be because I am usually feeling apprehensive so I just talk and talk. It has worked out well so far because most people don't seem to mind, and if they do I know nothing about it. I purposely make myself do things that are uncomfortable, I guess I like torturing myself haha

I have found a few videos that show how they pose, and while they don't pose as fully as my favorite girls, it is pretty close! I have been spoiled by how these pose (Tender Creation Young Hope, Atelier Momoni Momonita and Somni) pic under the spoiler.

    17. Nice to meet a fellow introvert! - if it helps, I get chatty as well when I'm nervous (usually about random trivia that I'm currently interested in, which doesn't always help connect with other people but oh well haha). I admire your desire to do difficult things!

I've never owned a Momoni or Tender Creation doll, but I have admired them in photos very often, and I know they are in the top when it comes to posing. I've always wanted to see a Momoni doll in person, because the poses they can do with their legs look so cute. Your two girls look charming in their casual outfits, and it's lovely to see one of the young Tender Creation girls in an owner photo!

I hope that you will enjoy the Maskcat posing too! Do you have a character in mind for your Yael yet?

    18. Random trivia is great, in a way it is better, because you may find your people that way. The ones that don't connect aren't your people so nothing lost there :)
I can't rave enough about the posing on the Momoni's and TC dolls! I have had many types of dolls over the years and by far these are my most favorites. I have never had dolls that I enjoy picking up and manipulating like I do with these dolls. I love scrunching them up in my hand and posing them in different ways. Most of my dolls just stand/sit there looking cute/pretty/etc., but these I actually handle quite frequently.

The TC young dolls don't seem to be too plentiful. I have seen several owner photos, but they were all painted by the artist and have the fancy clothes since I think most out there are the fullset dolls. The pictures I see all look like stock photos, mine pale in comparison because I am not good with lighting and photography, and my girl is...less luxurious looking than the others lol
Oh how I wish I could have gotten one of those fullset girls, but the price was more than double what I paid for this one. I got mine nude and blank, which made her way more affordable, I absolutely love her!

I don't have a character in mind for Yael, I need to have her in person and try different wigs and eyes to see what I like best. I just hope I like her, but I do worry about having a big doll again. They usually don't stay, but my only other big dolls were vinyl except for my Iplehouse guy who was huge and heavy. He was too much for me to handle and I couldn't find a wig that I liked on him, the outfit I got for him was too big and I didn't like it, which all resulted in his downfall :(
