Maskcat 57cm Dolls - part 2

Can someone get me an exact head measurement for wigs on Yael? I have read that some of the measurements may not be exact. I am seeing wig size of 8-9 but there are a ton of wigs I want that are for 21cm head which would be 8-9, however they are for Smartdoll and I found their heads to be more of a 7-8 with 8-9 being too big. Maskcat lists her head as 22.7cm so I just want to confirm.

 

I think if you get the wigs with the elastics, there would be a small margin of error. All wigs that were 8-9 that I bought with the elastic fit.

But here are my measurements for the Yaël head, I used them to commission a wig and it fit, so it should not be too far off.^^

1 head circumference (circle,girth) from the hairline to the bottom of the neck: 23 cm (I may have measured the hairline lower or the neck higher than Maskcat, hence the difference)
2- circumference (circle,girth) from the hairline to the middle of the nape: 21.3
3 length from the hairline to the bottom of the nape:13.2
4 length from ear to ear:13.4
5 Width of the forehead.6.5

The Maskcatdoll girls are fairly small for SD, and I find them fairly easy to dress and wig. I hope you will like your Yaël. ^^

 

Thank you for the measurements. Going on measurement number 2 that would fit a Smartdoll wig, so that gives me hope.

I sure hope I love having a big doll again, I am really nervous about it because if I have to sell I always lose too much money on dolls that I bought to just open up and say no lol...I laugh but I cry

 

Hi everyone! Thank you all for the beautiful pictures of these wonderful girls! I've been thinking about getting one for a while; I was even considering buying Yäel with a limited edition outfit, but it was too pricey Anyway, I hope to get Yäel or Frances or someone else some day, but I'm worried that she wouldn't fit into my SD crew. My SDs represent adult characters, and most of them have smaller heads. I'm afraid that Maskcat girls will look like giant teenagers in comparison So maybe someone could show me their Maskcat girls with other SDs, specifically, Supia/Zaoll or Iplehouse nYID or Dollzone?

 

I can't help you with the size comparison but for the outfits, some limited outfits are sold separately on Dolly Planet though it seems that they are currently out of stock. 【瑜瑜酱】*Warm Winter* BJD Dress/Outfit - dollyplanet IDK if they will restock, but you may potentially get the outfit separately.

I have indeed heard that Maskcat girls have ginormous heads compared to others. They are a bit bigger than my IOS boy at least, and a lot bigger than the Argodolls one, if it can help you for comparison.

IMO, hybriding them on a taller body or a more voluptuous body helps giving them a more mature appearance. Here is a picture of my Frances hybrided with an Argodoll plus-size body and my Willow on the Maskcat body.

@lyaam12 oh thank you! I've never thought of using Dolly Planet (is it US based?), but good to know these outfits at least were available separately!

Unfortunately, I don't have IOS or Argodoll heads/dolls and I don't remember seeing their SDs in person. I will check the video though, thanks!

I do love your hybrid! Actually, I'm thinking about getting Argodoll body/full doll in the future. However, I like Maskcat bodies very much, so I'd prefer to have a full doll and somehow make it work with the rest... Maybe she would need a bigger friend

The Maskcat dolls are beautifully pose-able. I think that the 57cm can be a mature doll. My Francis definitely looks like an adult. Their heads are bigger. I mostly collect Fairyland though so they fit right in. In fact, Francis looks great with my SD Fairyland dolls.

 

@elsie_f : They're a chinese company and their taobao handle is dolladore if I am not wrong. Not all Maskcat outfits are sold by Dolly planet, for example, the one in the stock photo of Yaël (the black dress with gold embroidery and earrings) was made by Maskcat and not sold separately. The ones that are sold by the Dolly planet are made by an independant artist who made quite lovely pieces.

 

@Dollquest yeah, I do want a Maskcat body! I think whether they look mature depends on both the faceup and their companions. Maybe I should buy feeple as well

@elsie_f I have Lisette with my CPDelf dolls & Nerine with my SD 10 & 13 Volks dolls & Custom house girls.. Both groups are bigger heads & 58-60cm height so the Maskcat girls fit right in. My Supia Rosy has a much smaller head & hangs out in a group with my migidoll boys & Elfdoll girls.
However, as I work in a hat shop, I notice that humans have much more diversity in head sizes & mix more than my dolls do... So it would def depend on your aesthetic choices. ;}

 

@cthulhu ohh thank you! I'm not planning on getting dolls by any of those companies but good to know about them just in case. Anyway, I've just bought a Dollstown Remi head which is so far the biggest in my collection, and I think they will make a nice companion to my future Maskcat girl!
Thank you for your observations as well. I don't pay that much attention to the humans head sizes but I noticed the variety of the heights and overall proportions. It's just that the differences tend to be more visible in dolls photos. But probably shouldn't get too picky about that

 

You can reduce the "size" difference by using a smooth, close fitting wig on the large head and a fluffy wig on the smaller head.

 

You can also slightly reduce head size by enlarging the shoulders by sueding the joint sockets and putting on a little bit more glue that usual.

 

considering purchasing a maskcat 57cm body version 2 secondhand. was wondering if hands for the current maskcat body would fit on the old one? any info would be appreciated. :^)

That said, it seems to me that the hands don't differ much in size? The hands are made to fit on a ball, which then is meant to fit in the forearm. As long as the ball is more or less similar in size, it should be fine? Of course, I only have the new body, so that's just my reasonning.




And to revive that inactive since some time thread...what do you think of the new sculpts (Agnes and Fleur)? For Fleur, I kinda like the smaller head proportions, personally, and I hope to see more small heads.

 

I like Agnes and Fleur! Ronia, Margo, and Astrid are still higher on my wish-list for floating heads though X)

Personally, I prefer the original larger head size, but we'll see what they decide to do!

Edited to add: I am eagerly awaiting the new jointed hands - if they release them around Christmas I will be very tempted to order them and either some heads or another doll in white skin.

 

@lyaam12 strangely, Fleur's head doesn't seem smaller than Frances's, hmm.

Also, I discovered that I missed a one-off collab with DLace. Wouldn't have been able to buy it anyway, probably. One day I am going to buy a Maskcat girl and a DLace outfit separately and combine them

 

thanks so much for this response! this is good to know. i'm getting a more realistic faceup for my lisette head with skin texturing so i don't think the slightly differently toned body will be too much of an issue. did not know jointed hands were coming out! that's super exciting.

 

I think I like the concept of a smaller head, but I am not in love with Fleur (yet) the way I am with some of the bigger heads. IDK why though. In the picture in which she is next to Frances, I just only admire Frances. XD Even though I don't necessarily want or need another Maskcat head, I think I would sooner buy Ronia, Margo, or another Yaël in WS, even though Fleur is lovely.

I have discovered with Astrid that although Astrid is lovely, the Blackbunny heads seem a bit rounder somehow? They don't quite fit my aesthetic even though I consider Astrid to be my most conventionally beautiful doll. So I am not too interested in Agnes, though I would have loved the clothes in which she came!

@elsie_f : There are collabs with DLace pretty often. I am sure that there will be at least one next year!

 

@lyaam12 - I tend to avoid open mouths as I don't usually care for them (even though one of my favorite sculpts ever is Dollmore Mio), so that turns me off Fleur a bit.

Frances is really beautiful - the only thing that keeps her from being higher on my list is that her forehead area seems a bit taller than that of Margo, Ronia, etc. Maybe it is just the photos, but I have seen people struggle to find wigs that look good on dolls with too-tall tops of the head, so it's a consideration for me.

Agnes's clothes are indeed cute! I am partial to vests/sleeveless dresses + white shirts combos. She has a very interesting eye shape and I like her straight nose, too. I'll be glad to see more Blackbunny sculpts in the future. Of them all, I agree that Astrid has a very classic beauty, and I think Juni has the most realistic facial proportions (why I chose her). The Blackbunny sculpts seem to look less like each other than the classic Maskcatdoll sculpts. Ronia, Margo, Frances, Evelyn, Yaël, and Lisette (and Willow, except for her more distinctive half-closed eyes) look like sisters to me with subtle differences in the shape of their features, but, for example, Bruna and Juni look quite different. I like that myself - it makes me look forward to new sculpts Blackbunny will create, but I'm more of a "single dolls sitting alone" kind of collector rather than one who develops groups of characters, so it doesn't matter to me as much if everyone matches.

@ava_bjd - Yes, I love jointed hands of any kind! These ones aren't fully jointed, they're like the Doll Chateau versions that just joint at the knuckles, but I'm still excited about them. Not that Maskcat doesn't already have so many beautiful hand options X)
