Minimalism in the BJD hobby?

Mar 24, 2015

    1. 1° I would rather shop around for a second-hand, if I had market access. I like the idea of lower prices and second-hand things, really.

2° I have never ordered extra anything. I don't think they're necessary at this point, I guess.

      3° N/A

4° I mean, I've never been in that sort of situation, but if it came to that, it would depend on how much I was below the mark. If I had eight dollars more to spend to get free shipping when Shipping costs more than eight dollars, I would probably find another item.

5° Yes! Just because I have the money for it does not mean I should get it.

6° I only have one doll, but it would probably be hard if I had more than one. They're kind of like children, but if I was in a position where I had to, I would probably be able to.

7° I only have one doll right now (well, she came with a mini as an event item), and I do feel a little bit like I want another one. But I am content right now. C: It would be nice to have another one to have her take pictures with.

8° I think it doesn't really matter how popular something is. If it's pretty, it's pretty. If someone doesn't want something because it's popular, that's their damage.

9° A really good male sculpt or a gorgeous full set. I don't have a particular one in mind, though. I don't like looking things out of my budget.

10° I do keep a slight running total in my head. My mom made a few remarks when I bought my first doll, but eh. She wasn't the most expensive.

    2. 1° Do you bother to look for the doll you want on the secondhand market or do you go straight to the company? Why?
If the doll is still available through the company, I'd prefer company or retail store. If the doll is sold-out... I usually give up :) or wait. If this is the most wanted doll I ever wanted - will try the secondhand market. The reason I don't rush to the secondhand market is that I know that every person puts a story into their dolls & I just don't want to ruin it - but if their story won't match mine, that could be a disaster for me. Don't mind to buy the doll if it was purchased & then has been kept in a box as blank doll, nothing else.

2° Do you immediatly order sleeping faces and extra hands for your doll through the company? If so, do you do this for every doll you purchase?
No. If I need something, I usually buy it later (actually I haven't ordered any special parts unless they were included to the set, not counting the ball-jointed hands).

3° If you have dolls with sleeping faces and extra hands: do you actually use them enough to justify the purchase? If not, do you regret getting them? If you don't have the above, do you regret not getting them?
All the ball-jointed hands I got were immediatelly put on the doll. So... no :)

4° Have you ever found yourself looking for extra items to throw in your shopping cart just so you could reach the necessary minimum amount to qualify for an event or free shipping? Do you realize this is a merchandising trick? If so, do you mind being seduced by this?

Yes, I do realize. That's why I usually ask my friends to cooperate. So both parties will get what they want: store will get additional money & we will receive free shipping.

5° Did the cost of a doll ever stop you from actually purchasing it when you had the necessary amount of money? Have you ever thought, "This doll is too expensive, I'll pass".
Yes, sometimes. And especially works when you see the blank head & you understand that you've seen familiar sculpt at the other company with cheaper prices (NOT a bootlegger!!!).

6° If for some reason you had to sell your whole collection except for one doll, would you be able to do it? Would you know who to pick? Why choose that one?
I've sold half of my collection. But to sell all and everything... it would be hard for me, but still I would be able to pick up a doll to keep. Only because my friend, who was creating wig & outfit for her mentioned that this tine looks like my kid. Now the doll bears the similar name.

7° Do you think you could be happy with just one doll? Why?
I've been in a hobby long enough to enjoy even the images of the dolls. And I'm not the person who spends lots of time with the dolls, I do not craft & do not take lots of pictures, do not make-up lots of stories... so let's say I'm not emotionally tied with most of them, but enjoy their images & characters.

8° Do you dislike purchasing popular sculpts? Do you prefer limited and rare dolls above others? If so, why? If not, are you bothered by people with this attitude?
Not bothered at all - it's their life. Unless these people try to pose themselves as the ones who makes the trends or rules (like 'This sculpt sucks 'cos thousands of people have it, and my doll is truly unique, so hail me!'). I don't care if the doll is limited or not. It's neither I like or dislike it, that's what the main reason.

9° If you had unlimited resources which doll would you purchase? How much does he/she/it cost?
Can't tell, as by the time I would get those unlimited resources, some new dolls can appear. Just kidding. If it would be 'now' - let's say I'd purchase a doll from every company I've cooperated, just because I love all of them.

10° Do you keep track of how much you spent on the hobby so far? Why (not)? Does anyone else ever comment on the financial side of your hobby?
I usually don't tell people (except for my husband - and only if I need financial support) how much I've spent over the years or each purchase. And even so, he never made a comment. We could've discuss if we can make a payment or not - or if it should be delayed, if the doll is not limited, or discuss some options of buying it. And I don't track on how much I've spent through the years, as I don't want to regret, as now I have a tough financial situation.

    3. 1° Do you bother to look for the doll you want on the secondhand market or do you go straight to the company? Why?
Both. I check the company first, and if it's not available I scour the MP. If it's not available there either, I distract myself with other things so that I don't keep yearning for something I can't have right at the moment. (sometimes it actually works)

2° Do you immediatly order sleeping faces and extra hands for your doll through the company? If so, do you do this for every doll you purchase?
Nope. I actually don't like extra free stuff that come with the dolls (I don't have a use for sleeping faces anyway). The only exception are high heeled feet for my girl dolls.

3° If you have dolls with sleeping faces and extra hands: do you actually use them enough to justify the purchase? If not, do you regret getting them? If you don't have the above, do you regret not getting them?
Don't have a use for sleeping faces. Extra hands only come in handy (har har) when I've got broken fingers.

4° Have you ever found yourself looking for extra items to throw in your shopping cart just so you could reach the necessary minimum amount to qualify for an event or free shipping? Do you realize this is a merchandising trick? If so, do you mind being seduced by this?
I try not to order during events, because I don't like getting extra stuff that I have no need for and therefore are hard to get rid of. With free shipping, it depends on whether I can justify paying the extra cost just to get it.

5° Did the cost of a doll ever stop you from actually purchasing it when you had the necessary amount of money? Have you ever thought, "This doll is too expensive, I'll pass".
Of course, more often than not.

6° If for some reason you had to sell your whole collection except for one doll, would you be able to do it? Would you know who to pick? Why choose that one?
The hard part isn't deciding who to sell, it is: will someone actually buy them? I've had dolls up for sale for months that had received no offers, so I've come to the conclusion that, even if I need to say goodbye to them all, I wouldn't be able to anyway since their predecessors proved that they couldn't be sold anyway.

7° Do you think you could be happy with just one doll? Why?
No, because I'm too greedy to simply settle for one *lol*

8° Do you dislike purchasing popular sculpts? Do you prefer limited and rare dolls above others? If so, why? If not, are you bothered by people with this attitude?
Yes, I try (being the operative word haha) not to go for the popular ones though I don't really prefer limited or rare dolls either (sometimes the dolls end up becoming rare mostly because people didn't buy them when they were available and they went for the popular ones instead). I'm not really bothered by people with that attitude.

9° If you had unlimited resources which doll would you purchase? How much does he/she/it cost?
At this point, I do believe I've reached the limit of how many dolls I'm willing to keep, so I can't really answer this question.

10° Do you keep track of how much you spent on the hobby so far? Why (not)? Does anyone else ever comment on the financial side of your hobby?
Not anymore. Once or twice somebody tried to bring it up, so I countered them by bringing up their own spendings on their own hobbies.

    4. Wow--what a bunch of terrific questions. I've enjoyed reading everyone's answers, too. It's cool to see how different collectors can be.

1° Do you bother to look for the doll you want on the secondhand market or do you go straight to the company? Why?
Sometimes, I do look to the secondary market first. And the reason, I'm embarrassed to say, is that I don't like to wait. Plus, I can often find dolls I didn't know I wanted on the secondary market. Although, I have no problems ordering company-direct, and often, I feel better when I do this, in spite of my impatience. It feels like my favorite companies are getting my $$ directly.

2° Do you immediatly order sleeping faces and extra hands for your doll through the company? If so, do you do this for every doll you purchase?
If they are available, yes to sleeping faces, and often for extra hands (I try not to go overboard, though--if I already have two pairs of white skin hands in different poses, for example, that's plenty). Peak's Woods offers extra hands with their dolls, and I love using them.

3° If you have dolls with sleeping faces and extra hands: do you actually use them enough to justify the purchase? If not, do you regret getting them? If you don't have the above, do you regret not getting them?
Hmm. To justify the cost? This is a good question. Yes for sure on the hands--I have no problems with extra hands, and use them in photos quite a lot. I have just a tiny bit of an issue when it comes to resin matching, and it bothers me when my dolls heads don't match their bodies. So I'd guess I'd have to say yes to sleeping faces, too. If a company offers a LE doll with both a dreaming/sleeping and open-eye sculpt, I find that very tempting.

4° Have you ever found yourself looking for extra items to throw in your shopping cart just so you could reach the necessary minimum amount to qualify for an event or free shipping? Do you realize this is a merchandising trick? If so, do you mind being seduced by this?
Oh yes! And not just only minimums for special events, but also for shipping costs. I try to maximize the cost of shipping on every order. I suppose it is a marketing ploy, but if it's something I'd want to order anyway (say an outfit that is available for $2 less when ordered from another source), often combining the order to include that slightly more expensive outfit is worth it after factoring in shipping. I do look pretty carefully, though, and don't order stuff I won't use.

5° Did the cost of a doll ever stop you from actually purchasing it when you had the necessary amount of money? Have you ever thought, "This doll is too expensive, I'll pass".
Definitely! And it depends on the time of year, and it varies from year to year, when I look at a doll and consider if it's "too expensive." However, I've been known to splurge from time to time, too.

6° If for some reason you had to sell your whole collection except for one doll, would you be able to do it? Would you know who to pick? Why choose that one?
Oh--I don't know! I think I'd end up replacing most of the dolls I'd sell. But in the interim, I'd probably end up keeping Dlight or Elf Tristan--one of the limited edition Peak's Woods sculpts in suntan, as she won't be offered again, and I don't think they sold terribly well. Also, I'm strangely attached to my first large girl, Sky (also PW). And... I have two very old Volks girls, and they are really dear to my heart, too.

7° Do you think you could be happy with just one doll? Why?
I probably could, but I'm definitely not collecting that way. If the doll has several different expressions or faces, and lots of hands, I think I'd be happy enough. I do fantasize selling off my collection now and then, and starting all over, but I just don't think I'd do it without a really good reason.

8° Do you dislike purchasing popular sculpts? Do you prefer limited and rare dolls above others? If so, why? If not, are you bothered by people with this attitude?
Not at all! I choose dolls based on how I feel about them, and I don't really care how popular they are. I love Fairyland's Ante, for example, and also Volks Megu and Peak's Woods Goldie (I have two Goldies at the moment, in fact). It doesn't bother me at all to find other collectors have sisters or identical twins, since I think collectors' tastes are individual. Plus when you style a doll, he or she can look very different, you know? I can also understand the other point of view, though--sometimes it's fun to have a gorgeous doll no one else owns. It's like a treasure hunt!

9° If you had unlimited resources which doll would you purchase? How much does he/she/it cost?
Hmm. I think I'd probably just order another suntan Peak's Woods girl--with a face-up and all around $750. Or a Marmite Sue girl for a lot of money. Oh wait--also, I adore Kiki Pop from Kinoko Juice.

10° Do you keep track of how much you spent on the hobby so far? Why (not)? Does anyone else ever comment on the financial side of your hobby?
Yes, to a point. I do this for tax reasons, actually, and buying/selling dolls is part of my business. I try not to spend more than I make, but this is sort of a dream hobby/job for me. :) And yes, I've gotten comment (like from my mother-in-law) about the amount I spend or have invested in my collection. It bothers me, but I try to ignore it. If my husband and I are able to afford it, it isn't anyone else's business. I'd never comment on the $$ someone else has invested in any hobby--cars, antiques, figurines, etc. Why wouldn't others have the same courtesy?

    5. 1° Do you bother to look for the doll you want on the secondhand market or do you go straight to the company? Why?
I shop both. More often than not, the secondhand market is the only place I am going to find the dolls I am after.

2° Do you immediatly order sleeping faces and extra hands for your doll through the company? If so, do you do this for every doll you purchase?
If I plan on ordering them, I normally order them at the same time as the doll. I have gotten secondhand hands for secondhand dolls due to not liking the hands they came with.

3° If you have dolls with sleeping faces and extra hands: do you actually use them enough to justify the purchase? If not, do you regret getting them? If you don't have the above, do you regret not getting them?
I have never gotten a sleeping face. The only doll I ordered extra hands for I have sold, but if I had kept him, he would have used them often for holding his sword.

4° Have you ever found yourself looking for extra items to throw in your shopping cart just so you could reach the necessary minimum amount to qualify for an event or free shipping? Do you realize this is a merchandising trick? If so, do you mind being seduced by this?
When I have ordered during an event, I ordered to get the event items. In the past you used to be able to just buy a body and have enough to get the event head... now that most of the companies I would like to get the event heads from want so much to qualify for free items, I do not even bother. I also do not add more to get free shipping, unless it would be less than the shipping itself.

5° Did the cost of a doll ever stop you from actually purchasing it when you had the necessary amount of money? Have you ever thought, "This doll is too expensive, I'll pass".
I usually do not have that kind of excess money to answer that one. If I see a doll I want I either save for it or work out a layaway.

6° If for some reason you had to sell your whole collection except for one doll, would you be able to do it? Would you know who to pick? Why choose that one?
Having to sell all but one implies that there is no choice in the matter, does it not? I would keep my first doll for the reasons that she was my first and her character has special meaning to me. She is the one doll my husband would keep if something were to ever happen to me as well.

7° Do you think you could be happy with just one doll? Why?
I think I would be bitter about loosing the rest of them. It is hard to say if that would pass.

8° Do you dislike purchasing popular sculpts? Do you prefer limited and rare dolls above others? If so, why? If not, are you bothered by people with this attitude?
I do not dislike popular sculpts, it is just that there is only so much money to go around so I tend to be drawn to getting the limited ones that I like instead of basic dolls that have been on my wishlist for years.

9° If you had unlimited resources which doll would you purchase? How much does he/she/it cost?
I would be torn between a Luts Tan Dark Elf Soo ($600ish), a Fairyland Elf Soony ($700?), or an Ipplehouse Luna Tamer fullset (I have no idea what she would go for if one came along).

10° Do you keep track of how much you spent on the hobby so far? Why (not)? Does anyone else ever comment on the financial side of your hobby?
I certainly do. I have a spreadsheet that I track the costs of the item, shipping cost, and where I got the item from. It helps me to keep track and say "Do I really NEED this...?" It also is a handy reference for those rare times when I sell something. No one really comments on the financial side of my hobby. I am more likely the one to be hard on myself over what I spend. I am not getting into hobby debt, but there are time I would have liked to have a larger savings pool to draw on for other more practical things.

    6. I am definitely in Doll-hoarder territory, but I've been buying bjds for over 10 years and they just add up!!!

1° Do you bother to look for the doll you want on the secondhand market or do you go straight to the company? Why?
Even though I spend a lot of money, I don't have an endless amount of it... and even if I did, why should I throw it around and waste it??? What if I need it for another doll or something??? So YES, I look around for the best deal on dolls I'm interested in!!! If I can get it from the company, then I will, though. Secondhand is NOT always less expensive! And sometimes they don't have all the things you can get from the company (certain makeup, items, clothing, body-parts, etc.).

2° Do you immediatly order sleeping faces and extra hands for your doll through the company? If so, do you do this for every doll you purchase?
I don't think I've ever ordered extra hands. Sometimes I will get the sleeping face, but very, very rarely. I usually try to get enough for one full doll and no extras... It's too much trouble for me to swap parts out. I don't tend to like doing that. And extra heads always makes me want to get an extra body, and I don't like that, either! But sometimes I've got the extra heads... They were just too tempting. :(

3° If you have dolls with sleeping faces and extra hands: do you actually use them enough to justify the purchase? If not, do you regret getting them? If you don't have the above, do you regret not getting them?
I've managed to only buy ONE extra body in over 10 years... So I do have heads lying about, which I don't like. Sometimes the extra heads have automatically come with the doll, so it's not my fault! I don't actually regret having them... I do wish I swapped them out more often - or found bodies for them, but that's about it.

4° Have you ever found yourself looking for extra items to throw in your shopping cart just so you could reach the necessary minimum amount to qualify for an event or free shipping? Do you realize this is a merchandising trick? If so, do you mind being seduced by this?
I did that ONCE and never again! I ended up selling the "free" head. I buy enough stuff that I really want/need... I don't need to just throw a lot of extra stuff in just to get something I don't really want. IF I really, really wanted the event item, then maybe I'd do it again... But I'd have to be better organized and go through and sell some of the stuff I don't end up using or wanting all that much, and i'm terrible at that!!!

5° Did the cost of a doll ever stop you from actually purchasing it when you had the necessary amount of money? Have you ever thought, "This doll is too expensive, I'll pass".
If I had the money... and I really, really wanted the doll, I don't think price would stop me. But I have to say, I don't LIKE spending vast amounts on dolls. I'd have to want the doll so much that I couldn't function well unless I had it. Otherwise I try to keep the price under $1,000. I've gone over, but that's usually including outfits and wigs and eyes and other stuff that would cost more anyway. If I could get a doll for less money, that would be all good to me. But sometimes I just have to pay for what I want! Luckily, I haven't had urges to throw vast amounts at individual dolls.

6° If for some reason you had to sell your whole collection except for one doll, would you be able to do it? Would you know who to pick? Why choose that one?
It would be very, very hard and very sad, but of course I could do it. You have to do what you have to do! ...but I have lots of other stuff I'd sell before me dolls!!!

7° Do you think you could be happy with just one doll? Why?
When I bought my first, I planned to only have one. I know I'm much happier with more! They are fun to pose together, and dolls are just so different and I like different dolls... If I had to only have one, I could definitely deal. Even one bjd is fantastic, I think!

8° Do you dislike purchasing popular sculpts? Do you prefer limited and rare dolls above others? If so, why? If not, are you bothered by people with this attitude?
I've got popular sculpts. I've got tons of limiteds and a number of very rare dolls. I buy dolls I like. I don't care what anyone else is doing! It's none of my business. They have nothing to do with me.

9° If you had unlimited resources which doll would you purchase? How much does he/she/it cost?
I pretty much have what I want already. I have a wishlist, but it won't kill me to stop where I am now... all others are just icing on the cake.

10° Do you keep track of how much you spent on the hobby so far? Why (not)? Does anyone else ever comment on the financial side of your hobby?
I keep some records of dolls and items and how much they cost... mostly to have good records and in case I want to sell some items. As above, I don't care what other people think. It's my life and my dolls and my money. Who cares what someone else thinks? If they don't want to buy dolls, they don't have to! I don't tell them how to spend their money, so they shouldn't tell me how to spend mine.

    7. 1° Do you bother to look for the doll you want on the secondhand market or do you go straight to the company? Why?
I look for them at secondhand markets before going straight to the company… because sometimes I can find dolls in super good condition and with only 80% the price of the new doll : ) so the 20% saved could go to my accessories fund. Also, the sellers could benefit since they are not planning to keep the doll in their collection. They can get fund after the sell… win-win cycle!!!

2° Do you immediately order sleeping faces and extra hands for your doll through the company? If so, do you do this for every doll you purchase?
Never liked the sleeping faces, so no for that.
But I do get the extra hands along with dolls, since the resin match might be troublesome in future.

3° If you have dolls with sleeping faces and extra hands: do you actually use them enough to justify the purchase? If not, do you regret getting them? If you don't have the above, do you regret not getting them?
Well, I see the extra hands as a part of my doll so I never regret getting them. Sometimes I just paint the nails for fun and if not in use, kept them as decorations on my desk… (weird? Lol)

4° Have you ever found yourself looking for extra items to throw in your shopping cart just so you could reach the necessary minimum amount to qualify for an event or free shipping? Do you realize this is a merchandising trick? If so, do you mind being seduced by this?
Luckily I always find some friends to split the event items & shipping with me so I do not spend too much on one order… I guess I would be seduced by it if the event items are good >,< but I never find myself tempted by the items.

5° Did the cost of a doll ever stop you from actually purchasing it when you had the necessary amount of money? Have you ever thought, "This doll is too expensive, I'll pass".
Yes!! Mostly I bump into this situation with Volks limited dolls. When people selling them for double the price on second hand markets, I would pass. I think it is too expensive and unreasonable spending the extra money over the original price.

6° If for some reason you had to sell your whole collection except for one doll, would you be able to do it? Would you know who to pick? Why choose that one?
Yes, thought of doing it awhile ago but couldn't find time to make all the sales thread and stuff… :p I would still keep my first doll, because I have owned it for 8 years now, it would be a souvenir for my long trip in this hobby.

7° Do you think you could be happy with just one doll? Why?

I guess so…. But probably would start collecting once I see some new mold I am interested in… this always happen unexpected :p

8° Do you dislike purchasing popular sculpts? Do you prefer limited and rare dolls above others? If so, why? If not, are you bothered by people with this attitude?
I do prefer rare sculpts but it is not necessarily : )

9° If you had unlimited resources which doll would you purchase? How much does he/she/it cost?
It is too difficult to take care of extra dolls…I am quite satisfied with the ones I have right now.

10° Do you keep track of how much you spent on the hobby so far? Why (not)? Does anyone else ever comment on the financial side of your hobby?
NOooo… I am too lazy to do that (& probably feel guilty after finding out the amount)… lol
Not really, people are usually shocked after finding out the prices of my BJDs but I am a grown up with a stable job, so they won't mind too much.

    8. 1° Do you bother to look for the doll you want on the secondhand market or do you go straight to the company? Why?
I always check for it secondhand unless it's a new limited. I actually prefer buying secondhand. Less wait time, and I enjoy dolls with "character". Often, secondhand dolls are cheaper, too.

2° Do you immediately order sleeping faces and extra hands for your doll through the company? If so, do you do this for every doll you purchase?

I basically never order these things. I ordered heel feet for my girl, but that's it.

3° If you have dolls with sleeping faces and extra hands: do you actually use them enough to justify the purchase? If not, do you regret getting them? If you don't have the above, do you regret not getting them?
One of my secondhand dolls came with extra hands, and I only used them once when his default ones needed repairs. Another doll came with fantasy parts and an extra head, but I couldn't stand it being extra, so now I'm getting a body and making it another doll entirely. I just ordered a limited who comes with several extra hands. We'll see if I use them...

4° Have you ever found yourself looking for extra items to throw in your shopping cart just so you could reach the necessary minimum amount to qualify for an event or free shipping? Do you realize this is a merchandising trick? If so, do you mind being seduced by this?
I realize it's a marketing trick, yes. I'll basically only do it if I either already wanted the extra items (for free shipping) and was just waiting for an opportunity, or if I actually want the event item(s) as well as something else from the company. I never buy something I didn't already want just to get extras or free shipping.

5° Did the cost of a doll ever stop you from actually purchasing it when you had the necessary amount of money? Have you ever thought, "This doll is too expensive, I'll pass".
Absolutely. There was only one doll I ever said "no cost limit" on, and since then I've turned down a few secondhand and/or limited dolls because they were too much money for what they were. For example: there's a tiny I kind of want, but it's 500 dollars (500 dollars!!!) which is WAY too much for a 26 cm (non-fullset), imho.

6° If for some reason you had to sell your whole collection except for one doll, would you be able to do it? Would you know who to pick? Why choose that one?
I've actually been in a situation where I was desperately strapped for cash... but I couldn't do it. I actually sat and valued out my collection, but I couldn't even begin the sales process. So no, I don't think I'd be able to.

7° Do you think you could be happy with just one doll? Why?

I was perfectly happy with my first doll for the long while until I could afford another. I was able to give him lots of individual attention and really "bond" with him. So, assuming I'd never had other dolls in the first place, I think I could be happy.

8° Do you dislike purchasing popular sculpts? Do you prefer limited and rare dolls above others? If so, why? If not, are you bothered by people with this attitude?
I like having unique/rare dolls, but a sculpt's popularity has never been a factor in my purchasing decisions. I think I just happen to have tastes that fall outside of the norm? Although a couple of my dolls are popular, just not easy to find, I guess. As for the attitudes of others, I don't mind whether or not you like rare dolls only. I guess some people want to have very unique collections? Nothing wrong with that, just like there's nothing wrong with wanting popular dolls.

9° If you had unlimited resources which doll would you purchase? How much does he/she/it cost?
I'd probably pay off my two layaways first, haha. I have a relatively small wishlist of five dolls (was seven, just ordered two), and once I'm up to order again, I'm attempting to obtain the most expensive ones first. So, Crobidoll Zia. She costs around $700, and that's not counting clothes, wig, eyes, etc. That's just the doll, plus heel legs and faceup (her company faceup is cute...)

10° Do you keep track of how much you spent on the hobby so far? Why (not)? Does anyone else ever comment on the financial side of your hobby?
Roughly, yes. Like, I remember how much I've spent on individual dolls, and could add them all up if necessary. As a rough estimate, I'd say I've probably spent close to five grand... Which is a lot, but I don't regret it. No one outside of friends really knows about my hobby or how expensive it is. Two of those friends also collect, so they know the pain, but some of my other friends have been sort of shocked. Oops.

    9. 1° Do you bother to look for the doll you want on the secondhand market or do you go straight to the company? Why?
Sometimes, depending on wether I trust the second hand market. Sometimes its just as expensive to buy second hand as it is to buy from the company- so in that case, why would't you buy first hand? At least there is a slightly higher chance of getting your product intact without damage.

2° Do you immediatly order sleeping faces and extra hands for your doll through the company? If so, do you do this for every doll you purchase?
No no no no... They're nice, but why? Maybe if I got more into photography I would buy more optional parts, but I feel like I would lose them or something along the way.

3° If you have dolls with sleeping faces and extra hands: do you actually use them enough to justify the purchase? If not, do you regret getting them? If you don't have the above, do you regret not getting them?
I probably wouldn't even if I did have some...

4° Have you ever found yourself looking for extra items to throw in your shopping cart just so you could reach the necessary minimum amount to qualify for an event or free shipping? Do you realize this is a merchandising trick? If so, do you mind being seduced by this?
I haven't done so yet (because of no funds :pout:) but I would totally do something like that, because 1) I love shopping online, and 2) I really like getting high quality doll accessories. I guess this is a "trick", but I don't really care. If I want something and I can afford it I'll buy it to qualify for shipping. I see it as nice for both parties. That's the reason these "tricks" work out.

5° Did the cost of a doll ever stop you from actually purchasing it when you had the necessary amount of money? Have you ever thought, "This doll is too expensive, I'll pass".
Nope. I've also bought a doll when I totally did not have the money... yeah... *cough* Aya *cough*

6° If for some reason you had to sell your whole collection except for one doll, would you be able to do it? Would you know who to pick? Why choose that one?
Aya (as of right this moment) is my only doll with me, so I guess I'd keep her. But I'm sure I wouldn't be able to part with either of my dollies easily- I guess Aya would win out with seniority.

7° Do you think you could be happy with just one doll? Why?
Nope. Because nope. Too many beautiful dolls out there, all begging for my money!!!

8° Do you dislike purchasing popular sculpts? Do you prefer limited and rare dolls above others? If so, why? If not, are you bothered by people with this attitude?
Yeah, *not saying names* some are really expensive and their sculpts aren't very impressive in my view. I don't really prefer limited or rare dolls because they're are so many really lovely dolls out there. I guess my one exception: Unoa Lusis (I would probably sell my soul to have one).

9° If you had unlimited resources which doll would you purchase? How much does he/she/it cost?
      See above :P About $800- $1000, I think

10° Do you keep track of how much you spent on the hobby so far? Why (not)? Does anyone else ever comment on the financial side of your hobby?
If I did I would probably lose sleep at night
*_* And yes, everybody whom I tell has an opinion about me/my hobby, so after awhile I stop telling folks.

    10. 1° Do you bother to look for the doll you want on the secondhand market or do you go straight to the company? Why?

No. I don't like ordering second hand. As for why? Confession blogs. All of the things people say they have done to/with their dolls has absolutely sealed that I will never own a second hand doll, i'd rather just not have it.

2° Do you immediately order sleeping faces and extra hands for your doll through the company? If so, do you do this for every doll you purchase?

I have never ordered extra heads for my dolls. I have ordered extra hands though.

3° If you have dolls with sleeping faces and extra hands: do you actually use them enough to justify the purchase? If not, do you regret getting them? If you don't have the above, do you regret not getting them?

No, I don't use them to justify the purchase, I purchase them to make posing and photos more fun.

4° Have you ever found yourself looking for extra items to throw in your shopping cart just so you could reach the necessary minimum amount to qualify for an event or free shipping? Do you realize this is a merchandising trick? If so, do you mind being seduced by this?

Nope. I have waited for events (If I knew they would be soon) before ordering before to see if I'd qualify for it, but I've never added anything to my cart that wasn't planned to be there before I ordered.

5° Did the cost of a doll ever stop you from actually purchasing it when you had the necessary amount of money? Have you ever thought, "This doll is too expensive, I'll pass".

No, I don't own any insanely priced dolls.

6° If for some reason you had to sell your whole collection except for one doll, would you be able to do it? Would you know who to pick? Why choose that one?

No I wouldn't be able to do this. I can honestly say there isn't a single doll in the world I'd like more than my entire collection, and I'd never give up multiple dolls for one.

7° Do you think you could be happy with just one doll? Why?

No, I enjoy all my dolls at different times. I like certain dolls more than others depending on my mood and no one doll could ever be the best doll for every mood. I am currently putting together my ultimate doll. The other dolls on my list at this point or odds and ends

8° Do you dislike purchasing popular sculpts? Do you prefer limited and rare dolls above others? If so, why? If not, are you bothered by people with this attitude?

I don't mind it. If there were a limited doll I liked I'd have no problem with saving up and buying it. I'm not a rare sculpt chaser though. As for why? It takes me a very long time to save for my dolls. If I do not 100% love the sculpt I'm buying I will not buy it, so buying a rare head just because it's rare just doesn't suit me. It doesn't bother me if other people do this though. It's their money, their dolls, and it has no impact on my life at all. If it makes them happy, I'm happy for them.

9° If you had unlimited resources which doll would you purchase? How much does he/she/it cost?

I would buy a DZ Megi, a MW (or BF now?) Leila, and an Obitsu 60 male doll with a volks 07 head to go with my new dds. I'm not sure of their current prices at the moment, it's been awhile since I looked. Though in all honesty, if I had unlimited resources I'd go nuts building dollhouses and buying props.

10° Do you keep track of how much you spent on the hobby so far? Why (not)? Does anyone else ever comment on the financial side of your hobby?

I don't keep track of what I've spent. I stress about enough stuff and this hobby is fun. It makes me happy and I don't hinder my life in the slightest to do what I do currently. I know the hobby is expensive, and I know I could probably do better things with that money. But this makes me genuinely happy, so I really don't care.

My grandma (rest her soul) used to comment on it, and my dad has commented. My Grandma knew the real cost of my dolls but my parents don't. My brother (who collects model kits) understands my reasoning and never judges the cost of my dolls.

    11. All of these answers are so interesting!

1° Do you bother to look for the doll you want on the secondhand market or do you go straight to the company? Why? Usually straight to company. I know it's cheaper on the second hand market, but I am a purist and I prefer my dolls to be new and shiney and only in my hands. I like my own things, not other people's things. But I am not against buying second hand at all. It depends on how badly I want the doll and what for.

Do you immediately order sleeping faces and extra hands for your doll through the company? If so, do you do this for every doll you purchase? Nah. I don't really care. And I don't buy small enough dolls to need a bunch of different hands.

If you have dolls with sleeping faces and extra hands: do you actually use them enough to justify the purchase? If not, do you regret getting them? If you don't have the above, do you regret not getting them? Not really applicable. I do usually sell the extra bits off when I get them automatically. Definitely helps justify the purchase ;)

Have you ever found yourself looking for extra items to throw in your shopping cart just so you could reach the necessary minimum amount to qualify for an event or free shipping? Do you realize this is a merchandising trick? If so, do you mind being seduced by this? If you want to break it down, nearly EVERYTHING you see is a merchandising trick. From produce to clothing to dolls. As the consumer it's your job to make a decision if you want to support it or not. When it comes to dolls (artwork, I consider them) I don't mind. I will usually go for the event ONLY if I want it anyway. I'm not an eventaholic. When it comes to food and clothing... not so much hah

Did the cost of a doll ever stop you from actually purchasing it when you had the necessary amount of money? Have you ever thought, "This doll is too expensive, I'll pass". Yes :< But only once. I would spend $700 on a doll I really want then 3 or 4 small ones. It's not about collecting. It's about falling in love with my character.

If for some reason you had to sell your whole collection except for one doll, would you be able to do it? Would you know who to pick? Why choose that one? I don't think I'd be able to do it, honestly. My dolls are sacred. Nothing else works out very well for me in life (not saying my life is BAD, I love it!) but my dolls are my saving grace. If it came down to it and I had to I know which one I would pick. Zeal, my most in depth and developed character. He has been around since I was 9 and he is a metaphor for myself. I was so fulfilled when I was able to bring him to "life". I think I'll keep him when he is 30 years old and yellowed to a banana. Nothing would make me part with him.

Do you think you could be happy with just one doll? Why? I don't think I could, but I do think I could? I mean... I love Zeal more than anything and it would be fine... but... I have so many other aspects of things I need to fabricate.

Do you dislike purchasing popular sculpts? Do you prefer limited and rare dolls above others? If so, why? If not, are you bothered by people with this attitude? I prefer limited everything always. I dislike popular sculpts, but I'm not going to outright deny it if I actually like it. I'm not bothered by anyone's opinion which way or the other. They are YOUR dolls and YOUR dolls are beautiful - popular or not! The importance of a rarity is only an illusion anyway. But like I said, I prefer limited. Just the collector side of me. It's a bragging right but not a status :)

If you had unlimited resources which doll would you purchase? How much does he/she/it cost? I might buy a doll clans or an 80cm IOS doll, or a Titan. All well over $600. I don't know - I already have what I want for now

10° Do you keep track of how much you spent on the hobby so far? Why (not)? Does anyone else ever comment on the financial side of your hobby? lolwhatiskeepingtrack? I don't discuss the financial side of the hobby because I am terrified of people stealing my dolls. Sometimes it makes me feel good like "Wow, I wanted something so badly I saved up and got it! I can do this!" And sometimes it's like "oh wow I really saved up for this and not like a car or something..." But whateva! Bills are paid, priorities aren't skewed and I'm HAPPY!

    12. 1° Do you bother to look for the doll you want on the secondhand market or do you go straight to the company? Why?
If I find a sculpt i'm dead set on having, I always go company so I know it's in perfect condition (most likely) but I do have a 2nd(3rd?) hand doll that i love just as much.

2° Do you immediatly order sleeping faces and extra hands for your doll through the company? If so, do you do this for every doll you purchase?
I never have. None of my dolls have gotten option parts upon purchase, and only one got a pair of heel feet later on.

3° If you have dolls with sleeping faces and extra hands: do you actually use them enough to justify the purchase? If not, do you regret getting them? If you don't have the above, do you regret not getting them?
I don't regret it. If I ever get the desire to have extra hands etc, I'll buy them then.

4° Have you ever found yourself looking for extra items to throw in your shopping cart just so you could reach the necessary minimum amount to qualify for an event or free shipping? Do you realize this is a merchandising trick? If so, do you mind being seduced by this?
Only if the amount I'd need to add is less than the shipping cost.

5° Did the cost of a doll ever stop you from actually purchasing it when you had the necessary amount of money? Have you ever thought, "This doll is too expensive, I'll pass".
I find myself 'pft'ing at anything more than $400 (as an MSD collector, even though that's not that expensive!)

6° If for some reason you had to sell your whole collection except for one doll, would you be able to do it? Would you know who to pick? Why choose that one?
I couldn't do it because I've bonded with them. I could probably sell two of the four, but two I'm just too attached to.

7° Do you think you could be happy with just one doll? Why?
See above. But if you mean before I'd even had the others, no, because I want to see my characters all in doll form!

8° Do you dislike purchasing popular sculpts? Do you prefer limited and rare dolls above others? If so, why? If not, are you bothered by people with this attitude?
I dislike purchasing popular sculpts just because I want my dolls to be more unique.
9° If you had unlimited resources which doll would you purchase? How much does he/she/it cost?

10° Do you keep track of how much you spent on the hobby so far? Why (not)? Does anyone else ever comment on the financial side of your hobby?
I keep rough track of it. No one really comments on the financial side. Having only spent about $1.5k on my 3.5 dolls (one isn't outfitted) I'm far under what most spend in the hobby.

    13. 1° Do you bother to look for the doll you want on the secondhand market or do you go straight to the company? Why?
I go straight to the company. I want a blank doll without scratches.

2° Do you immediatly order sleeping faces and extra hands for your doll through the company? If so, do you do this for every doll you purchase?
      It depends on the doll.

3° If you have dolls with sleeping faces and extra hands: do you actually use them enough to justify the purchase? If not, do you regret getting them? If you don't have the above, do you regret not getting them?
I don't regret getting them. I don't use them at the moment because I am more into sewing for them at the moment.

4° Have you ever found yourself looking for extra items to throw in your shopping cart just so you could reach the necessary minimum amount to qualify for an event or free shipping? Do you realize this is a merchandising trick? If so, do you mind being seduced by this?
Yep. though I don't do it if the extra item is unnecessary to me. I wait and buy another time.

5° Did the cost of a doll ever stop you from actually purchasing it when you had the necessary amount of money? Have you ever thought, "This doll is too expensive, I'll pass".
Yes and no. I need to know why I am spending that much money. If it caters to my needs/wants/expectations and will not give me aggravations (clothes difficult to make, clothes difficult to find, poor posability etc...), the cost is not a major hurdle.

6° If for some reason you had to sell your whole collection except for one doll, would you be able to do it? Would you know who to pick? Why choose that one?
Nope, it is a bit like asking me 'could you do with one hand only?'

7° Do you think you could be happy with just one doll? Why?
      No. I need variety.

8° Do you dislike purchasing popular sculpts? Do you prefer limited and rare dolls above others? If so, why? If not, are you bothered by people with this attitude?
I don't dislike purchasing popular sculpts, I prefer to look around first for a doll that suits me better. I have bought popular sculpts and do not regret them.

9° If you had unlimited resources which doll would you purchase? How much does he/she/it cost?
At the moment, the dolls I am interested in have 'faults' (poor posability, wrong colour etc...) so I am planning to wait till these 'faults' are fixed.

10° Do you keep track of how much you spent on the hobby so far? Why (not)? Does anyone else ever comment on the financial side of your hobby?
I did. I don't anymore. [IMG]. Plenty of people have commented, funny how I tend to be hard of hearing on some subjects.

    14. 1° Do you bother to look for the doll you want on the secondhand market or do you go straight to the company? Why?
I look for the doll forever on the secondhand market--usually because I want just the head and not the doll. I haven't really been that lucky about it, so I guess I could try more than I currently do.

2° Do you immediatly order sleeping faces and extra hands for your doll through the company? If so, do you do this for every doll you purchase?3° If you have dolls with sleeping faces and extra hands: do you actually use them enough to justify the purchase? If not, do you regret getting them? If you don't have the above, do you regret not getting them?
Nope. I wouldn't use them. This is actually another way I save money--just like the extra hands and extra faces, I try to narrow a particular doll's wardrobe into one or two full outfits that I made from scratch. Of course the "from scratch" aspect often means that the clothes are actually more expensive than some that would be available online, the close are better made, and the smaller number of them means that they take up less space! Of course, this only works because the dolls are specific characters. If my doll was meant to be a regular person character, I might need more variation in clothes.

4° Have you ever found yourself looking for extra items to throw in your shopping cart just so you could reach the necessary minimum amount to qualify for an event or free shipping? Do you realize this is a merchandising trick? If so, do you mind being seduced by this?
Nope. I'm newer in the hobby, though, and I can sew, which changes my perspective on clothing. I also want very specific things when I buy them.

5° Did the cost of a doll ever stop you from actually purchasing it when you had the necessary amount of money? Have you ever thought, "This doll is too expensive, I'll pass".
I feel that way about full dolls and some bodies--I guess I'm really rather cheap. I never like the body my doll is offered on (usually because I will be making the doll another sex), or the head that I would like to use the body for is the wrong resin color. Darn. This probably means though that I am paying extra in shipping and to buy the bodies I like and the heads that I like separately.

6° If for some reason you had to sell your whole collection except for one doll, would you be able to do it? Would you know who to pick? Why choose that one?
I have no idea. I already feel restricted with the eight (eight!) dolls I have planned as specific characters. While this has significantly restricted the kinds of heads and bodies that I choose, it isn't nearly enough to choose one doll!

7° Do you think you could be happy with just one doll? Why?
I don't know. I am happy with the dolls that I currently own, but its probably because I know eventually I will have all the dolls that I planned. All but two of my dolls are interrelated, and that makes choosing difficult.

8° Do you dislike purchasing popular sculpts? Do you prefer limited and rare dolls above others? If so, why? If not, are you bothered by people with this attitude?
I can never do limited or rare* (*with one exception) because I buy the head and doll separately. I don't even bother looking at rare or popular dolls. The one exception is Or-Doll Anderl. I found her when I was taking a break from just the online stalking of the bjd hobby, and therefore didn't realize that he'd be around for only a short time. He would've been perfect for a character I have in mind, but she is stalled, as I need to know the head size before I get her a body.

9° If you had unlimited resources which doll would you purchase? How much does he/she/it cost?
I would probably buy doll bodies without compromising. As of now, I buy cheaper bodies for customization projects because I can't justify messing around with a really expensive body. I might even purchase the Dollstown 18 I've been eyeing. I think 645 dollars for a body is kinda ridiculous.

10° Do you keep track of how much you spent on the hobby so far? Why (not)? Does anyone else ever comment on the financial side of your hobby?
I don't keep track, but I do calculate prices for each full doll to determine if it's "worth it." I don't keep track because the doll assembly process is so slow. Probably also because I don't want to know. Not many people know of the hobby, and fewer understand the significance of the dolls, so I get very little questions.

    15. 1° Do you bother to look for the doll you want on the secondhand market or do you go straight to the company? Why? I think that it depends on if the doll is available through the company. If not, I try second

2° Do you immediatly order sleeping faces and extra hands for your doll through the company? If so, do you do this for every doll you purchase? I don't buy many dolls with that option

3° If you have dolls with sleeping faces and extra hands: do you actually use them enough to justify the purchase? If not, do you regret getting them? If you don't have the above, do you regret not getting them? Not really

4° Have you ever found yourself looking for extra items to throw in your shopping cart just so you could reach the necessary minimum amount to qualify for an event or free shipping? Do you realize this is a merchandising trick? If so, do you mind being seduced by this? I try not to be sucked in :)

5° Did the cost of a doll ever stop you from actually purchasing it when you had the necessary amount of money? Have you ever thought, "This doll is too expensive, I'll pass". No, If a doll really speaks to me and I have the money, I order it

6° If for some reason you had to sell your whole collection except for one doll, would you be able to do it? Would you know who to pick? Why choose that one? No, I would freak. I'd keep my Maurice, Because he's my favorite

7° Do you think you could be happy with just one doll? Why? No, I have lots of love to share

8° Do you dislike purchasing popular sculpts? Do you prefer limited and rare dolls above others? If so, why? If not, are you bothered by people with this attitude? I Buy what speaks to me, so no

9° If you had unlimited resources which doll would you purchase? How much does he/she/it cost? All of Nikki Britt's dolls. They are limited... so $$$

10° Do you keep track of how much you spent on the hobby so far? Why (not)? Does anyone else ever comment on the financial side of your hobby? I don't. That's bad yes, but I have doll allowances. They comment all the time on how expensive it is

    16. 1° Do you bother to look for the doll you want on the secondhand market or do you go straight to the company? Why?
Not for my first doll, but after her... Yes, I've checked the secondhand market first. The dolls could be less there or ship sooner than a company would. Most of my dolls are second hand.

2° Do you immediatly order sleeping faces and extra hands for your doll through the company? If so, do you do this for every doll you purchase?
No, my dolls all came with free extra pairs of feet. I've never ordered extra parts with them before yet.

3° If you have dolls with sleeping faces and extra hands: do you actually use them enough to justify the purchase? If not, do you regret getting them? If you don't have the above, do you regret not getting them?
At times I regret not getting some hands so that my dolls look like they're grabbing things, but at the same time I don't need them. I can do without, like I have so far. Looks like it would be extra work anyways.

4° Have you ever found yourself looking for extra items to throw in your shopping cart just so you could reach the necessary minimum amount to qualify for an event or free shipping? Do you realize this is a merchandising trick? If so, do you mind being seduced by this?
No, I don't add extras in my cart to reach a minimum. Even if it is a merchandizing trick, sometimes it still has some perks. Some extras that come free have the potential to be sold later, so you could sort of get a rebate from the cost of your doll & things. I know some doll owners who have done this, and it sort of gets around the "trick". No minimum amount event has phased me yet, none of them have lured me in yet.

5° Did the cost of a doll ever stop you from actually purchasing it when you had the necessary amount of money? Have you ever thought, "This doll is too expensive, I'll pass".
Yes, I've passed on a doll several times actually. There are a few dolls I've been looking at, and if they are for sale over a certain amount I go "gotta pass". My husband helps me with this budgeting too, while thankfully still being supportive of the hobby. We both have allowances and keep things fair.

6° If for some reason you had to sell your whole collection except for one doll, would you be able to do it? Would you know who to pick? Why choose that one?
I can get down to three, but not one.. Couldn't choose just one. I know what three I would pick..
I would keep my three MSD's, because in a way they hold sentimental value, and remind me of my dear friends that I hardly ever see or talk to anymore. Not that we aren't still friends, its just we are all grown up, and busy in our own lives/ live far away ATM.

7° Do you think you could be happy with just one doll? Why?
      If it came down to apocalyptic circumstances, or some really severe times, yes. I would be happy with one doll to hold, even having the head of one of my dolls as a reminder would make me happy.. Hope that doesn't come off as creepy.. >.>;

8° Do you dislike purchasing popular sculpts? Do you prefer limited and rare dolls above others? If so, why? If not, are you bothered by people with this attitude?
I don't really understand the whole "popular sculpts" thing. I know others understand it, and go for brands like Volks etc. Depends on the type of person bragging or something for it to bother me. I just order what I love, be it popular or not. Most of the time they've turned out to be a limited doll, but those dolls are what I was looking for, just not the limited part. I'd prefer they weren't limited so I wouldn't have to worry about hunting for them. So much saving, hunting, waiting, and rushing. O_O

9° If you had unlimited resources which doll would you purchase? How much does he/she/it cost?
If I had unlimited resources I would nab a msd Souloid Diget in normal & steel skin for over $700.

10° Do you keep track of how much you spent on the hobby so far? Why (not)? Does anyone else ever comment on the financial side of your hobby?
Yes, I keep track and tabs on what's being spent. My husband also helps me with this, because we both have expensive hobbies and want to keep our finances in check. We have other priorities like the house, food, cars, and other payments.

    17. 1° Do you bother to look for the doll you want on the secondhand market or do you go straight to the company? Why?
It depends on the doll or if I want the company faceup.

2° Do you immediatly order sleeping faces and extra hands for your doll through the company? If so, do you do this for every doll you purchase?
Well, none of the companies I order from have sleeping face plates/heads available for their dolls. I have ordered extra hands a few times, but not for every doll.

3° If you have dolls with sleeping faces and extra hands: do you actually use them enough to justify the purchase? If not, do you regret getting them? If you don't have the above, do you regret not getting them?
The extra hands I ordered I ended up not liking, so I don't use them.

4° Have you ever found yourself looking for extra items to throw in your shopping cart just so you could reach the necessary minimum amount to qualify for an event or free shipping? Do you realize this is a merchandising trick? If so, do you mind being seduced by this?
It depends on how much I want the event head. If I don't want it, then I don't really care.

5° Did the cost of a doll ever stop you from actually purchasing it when you had the necessary amount of money? Have you ever thought, "This doll is too expensive, I'll pass".
Yes, but not all the time. It really depends on how much I want the doll.

6° If for some reason you had to sell your whole collection except for one doll, would you be able to do it? Would you know who to pick? Why choose that one?
I know which doll I'd pick. If I had to pick more than one, I'd be stumped.

7° Do you think you could be happy with just one doll? Why?
Not as happy because I like them to be with friends in photos. Interacting photos are the most fun.

8° Do you dislike purchasing popular sculpts? Do you prefer limited and rare dolls above others? If so, why? If not, are you bothered by people with this attitude?
Yes I do. I think certain companies and sculpts are TOO popular and I don't want my doll to look like one of many. I do love limiteds, but there are some non-limited dolls that I also love. Even if I like a super popular doll, I won't buy it.

9° If you had unlimited resources which doll would you purchase? How much does he/she/it cost?
I'd really like a Delf If, but I can't even find one to buy so I'm not sure how much she would cost.

10° Do you keep track of how much you spent on the hobby so far? Why (not)? Does anyone else ever comment on the financial side of your hobby?
No, I don't. Though I have looked at some totals just from Luts and Soom and it's ... yeah, more than I wanted to spend. I've definitely slowed down in the last year and this year so far. Now that I have my current dolls, there's not such a hurry to get "friends" for them :) No one really comments on the cost of my dolls, but I don't tell them >.>

    18. 1° Do you bother to look for the doll you want on the secondhand market or do you go straight to the company? Why?
Yes because I would rather skip the waiting time, the only exception is if second hand it is coming from outside the EU and I would have to pay customs and there is an EU dealer which has them to order.

2° Do you immediately order sleeping faces and extra hands for your doll through the company? If so, do you do this for every doll you purchase?
None of the companies I have dolls from do sleeping faces for the same doll, extra hands I have been tempted by. I think I would buy a sleeping face if available and as I said I have been tempted by extra hands, I can say if I would do it for every doll but I probably would for my favorites that I would be photographing often.

3° If you have dolls with sleeping faces and extra hands: do you actually use them enough to justify the purchase? If not, do you regret getting them? If you don't have the above, do you regret not getting them?
      N/A

4° Have you ever found yourself looking for extra items to throw in your shopping cart just so you could reach the necessary minimum amount to qualify for an event or free shipping? Do you realize this is a merchandising trick? If so, do you mind being seduced by this?
Never done it. If I did I would make sure I get pretty much EVERYTHING I could need/want from there so I hopefully won't need to order from them again for a good while.

5° Did the cost of a doll ever stop you from actually purchasing it when you had the necessary amount of money? Have you ever thought, "This doll is too expensive, I'll pass".
Loongsoul Emily Most of my dolls have cost me £150-£200ish. And I mostly collect MSD's, I think it'll be a few more years and a solid job later until I buy a doll which is in that price range.

6° If for some reason you had to sell your whole collection except for one doll, would you be able to do it? Would you know who to pick? Why choose that one?
I think I could BUT i wouldn't like doing it at all. If I had to keep one (my third is on the way so I'm not counting her as part of my collection yet) I would keep Grenade my DollLove Cecelia and Dollzone Hybrid I didn't bond with my first doll like I did with Grenade.
7° Do you think you could be happy with just one doll? Why?
For awhile I was I had Pandora for 4 years before I bought Grenade this year. But deep down I like having more than one character and they are stress relief for me, something to focus on instead of getting wound up by things.

8° Do you dislike purchasing popular sculpts? Do you prefer limited and rare dolls above others? If so, why? If not, are you bothered by people with this attitude?
If I really liked a popular sculpt I would go for it but so far unpopular sculpts have been what I like, I only like certain limited dolls like Dollzone Pag and Olga they are my grail dolls I hope to find one day. The thing is with owning unpopular sculpts is you can post them and hopefully someone else may discover them and their potential. I would have never considered a switch doll until I saw what Elfgutz does with them.

9° If you had unlimited resources which doll would you purchase? How much does he/she/it cost?
I think it would have to be Loongsoul Emily she doesn't quite fit with the dolls I have I don't think but she is stupidly gorgeous in my opinion. BUT I would want to get the dolls I have planned first.

10° Do you keep track of how much you spent on the hobby so far? Why (not)? Does anyone else ever comment on the financial side of your hobby?
I don't like to keep track I probably should since I estimate I have spent about £700 on this hobby since January (after a 4 year hiatus from the hobby). My parents have stopped commenting on it because dispite how much I have spent they know I have savings put to the side for later in life that I won't touch. My friends sometimes comment on it but their attitude is "well if it makes you happy then it's your money".

    19. 1° Do you bother to look for the doll you want on the secondhand market or do you go straight to the company? Why?
I have checked secondhand, and gotten a secondhand doll before. It worked out fine.

2° Do you immediately order sleeping faces and extra hands for your doll through the company? If so, do you do this for every doll you purchase?
I love extra hands. They make the doll more fun to play with. Never gotten a sleeping head though.

3° If you have dolls with sleeping faces and extra hands: do you actually use them enough to justify the purchase? If not, do you regret getting them? If you don't have the above, do you regret not getting them?
I definitely use the extra hands enough to justify the purchase, especially when taking pictures of them doing things.

4° Have you ever found yourself looking for extra items to throw in your shopping cart just so you could reach the necessary minimum amount to qualify for an event or free shipping? Do you realize this is a merchandising trick? If so, do you mind being seduced by this?
That's a little cold. Sometimes throwing in an extra item comes out cheaper than if you skip it. Shipping can be very expensive, so a $5 item is better than $40 shipping.

5° Did the cost of a doll ever stop you from actually purchasing it when you had the necessary amount of money? Have you ever thought, "This doll is too expensive, I'll pass".
Heck yeah, I'll pass on a doll. They're fun to look at, but most are too expensive for me to justify to myself getting. Sometimes a grail doll is just for admiring from afar.

6° If for some reason you had to sell your whole collection except for one doll, would you be able to do it? Would you know who to pick? Why choose that one?
I only have one actual BJD. The rest are little, inexpensive non-BJDs. So I don't think this question applies to me. If I had to part with my smaller, cheaper dolls though, I would keep my first one. The one who started it all.

7° Do you think you could be happy with just one doll? Why?
No, they need to come in twos, so they have a buddy when I'm not playing with them. I don't know why I feel this way, I jsut do.

8° Do you dislike purchasing popular sculpts? Do you prefer limited and rare dolls above others? If so, why? If not, are you bothered by people with this attitude?
I do not care if a sculpt is popular or not. It's about what I want, not what everyone else wants.

9° If you had unlimited resources which doll would you purchase? How much does he/she/it cost?
A Puck by Freakstyle BJD. He is over $500, way out of my comfort zone, but I love his smile.

10° Do you keep track of how much you spent on the hobby so far? Why (not)? Does anyone else ever comment on the financial side of your hobby?
No, that's a little ridiculous. I am very particular about how much I spend when I first get the doll. Gotta start with basics like a wig, eyes, etc, but after that they just get small purchases maybe once a month. Something I'm comfortable with.

    20. 1° Yes, it is definqtely less expensive ans you can get to know other companies/sculpt

2° NO I do not order the sleeping face as I find them too restrictive; extra hands are good though, hand are very expressiv so for e they are important. I don't other extra hand hand everytime but usually after

3° I must admit I do have extra hand for my pukifee that I do ot use very often.

4° Yes, the famous bugg off... i fall for it everytime but it does not bother me thta much

5° Yes and yes sometime it is unecessary

6° I have never sold a doll yet, but I can imagine the feeling
7° I think at soe point I will reduce my doll collection to one, definatelly then you can spend more time with it and really going into details of everything

8° I do not dislike it but this is true that now I a looking at more original dolls. I do not dislike people doing so either, everyone choice really

9° I would purchase a Connie Lowe doll with several outfit

10° I do not count, maybe I should but that would scare me and put me off

      This was really interesting thanks
