Mirodoll Discussion Part VI

Df-H jointed hands will work for the 61cm male. AoD hands probably would too, but not positive about that. Resin Soul girl hands are very slender and thin; they work for the new soom girls but are slender even for them. The male hands might work for the 70cm girl, but I am not sure. The 70cm gal is pretty big. I have 2 of the bodies and yes they have flaws, but there's something fun about them! I have not modded mine though I did do a review for her on DOA. What are you looking to accomplish?

As for the 70cm, I have lots of mods planned, including: torso shortening, true double-joint peanuts, breast shape modification, ankle modification, wrist modification, elbow and knee mods, notch addition for leg area ( so the legs don't spin around), torso notches, etc. A lot of these mods were planned before I recieved the body, after seeing videos of the body. I've since added some too. I love the 70cm female body's look and style! It's perfect for my character, just needs some tweeking for my needs. Mine was a Clearance purchase, so she had some additional issues that I didn't know about (none of her parts fit together? Lol)​

 

I have some pairs of jointed hands- I can try them on the big girl and see if any work for her!

Oh that PEANUT! I have been begging them to fix that silly little pea joint into an actual peanut joint and they keep saying yes and it keeps not happening. *huffs* But some people have done that... I am too lazy, but I have seen it once or twice Sadly not sure where or when. I'd say try looking on flickr, too.

*LOL* They have the no-spin leg feature on the boys which allows it not to turn at ALL, then nothing on the big girls so they're all over the place. Something in between would be nice. All your mods sound amazing! if you complete it and then offer to send the mods to them for casting, they'd probably do it, then the upgrades will be done for all time (and you get a new-cast replacement, most likely). But none of her parts fit? WOW! Maybe the last of a bad mold? Works for you though- makes the modding essential!

My husband will be helping me with all the mods, so if they turn out okay (fingers crossed), I would totally be willing to send it into Mirodoll if they'd like to upgrade the 70cm body. And yeah, everything has rather large gapes and off spacing. I took various parts apart, and they just...don't fit. Lol. Like even if I sanded the rough seam areas, it still doesn't match up. I wonder if she's a mismatch of multiple batches? Either way, I adore the body and like you said, she's just begging for a good mod-job. ​

 

Update on my 70cm Girl "Janky": I decided to go ahead and take her apart to begin mods...only to discover that her elastic for her body was never tied. LOL! Only her arm elastic was looped and tied, and the body elastic was only staying together because it was caught on the arm elastic. I seriously can't stop giggling. Tehe! Either way, I'm going to start this big girl's mods soon. ​

 

Gosh, I love the name Janky for your girl! *LOL* I forgot to mention that before- inspired! Miro stringing is... interesting. I always undo it anyway, so you were a step ahead. At least it was still hanging on so it didn't just collapse into a pile of parts! That's startling!

 

I recently ordered my first Mirodoll -- Lightning on the 62cm body -- and I'm so excited to get her! I was wondering if maybe experienced owners here could tell me what eye and wig size she takes? I looked all over the Mirodoll site and couldn't see that info anywhere, and I'd like to start buying her stuff. I was also curious to know if the resinsoul hands NS would match mirodoll NS classic passably (I'll just get the guy hands if the girl ones are too small). Thanks guys ^_^ If she works out, I plan to order several more Mirodolls as I really like a few of their sculpts.

 

Lightning is very cool, very intense looking! I keep trying with her, but never actually bond. I'm sad about that. Thankfully, that seems to be a rarity! She wears an 8/9 wig and her eye wells are super small! Some people mod them with a sizer to take bigger eyes or just mod her eyes bigger, but part of her intensity is her small, laser-focused eyes, I think. I believe she'd take a 12mm or maybe even a 10mm. I'll let current owners field that one. Resinsoul NS hands would probably match the Miro classic... let me check... yes, very close! Close enough not to need blushing. The wrist ball of the RS hands might be bigger than the Miro wrist- I don't have a 62cm female body handy to check the rounded wrists you'll be getting, but the hand size is very close. Should work well!

And as always, never judge Miro posability until you have done 2 things: Restrung the doll to be much tighter (they ship floppy and give you roughly twice as much string as you will need at any one time) and hot glue suede her joints. Then she goes from "what did I just buy?!" to "WOW! She's a better poser than my 7x more expensive dolls!"

 

I'm sorry to hear you haven't been able to bond with yours I bond pretty easily with dolls, kind of as long as they have some expression I tend to be good, so I think I'll be okay with her. Plus I already have a character for her, which helps.

Thanks so much for the info! Her head looked so big to me I thought she might be a 9/10, but 8/9 is perfect as I have loads of 8/9 wigs already. I also have plenty of 12mm eyes as I have an Iplehouse Carina and that's her size, so that's cool! Again, I was expecting bigger there. It's sweet that she might look okay next to my Carina actually as that poor girl doesn't have anyone even close to her aesthetic. (I didn't really want another EID, too bulky/hard to clothe). Most of my dolls are "classic" SD types with big heads and huge eyes.

As to modding/restringing the body, yeah, I already figured I'd be doing some of that (I'm an experienced joint modder so NBD), so if the wrists arent a perfect fit for the new hands or it needs other changes, I'm game. Part of the reason I'm getting into Mirodolls is I want to do more modding and it's a bit intimidating on dolls with high price points, so I was really happy to find a doll company that makes nice affordable dolls to be creative with. ^_^

 

That's OK but thanks- Sometimes it just doesn't gel. But I have plenty of other Miro dolls (mostly bodies) to keep me company! Unless they've since changed it, Lightning was the only sculpt they made (that I know of) where they tried to make actual eye wells in which to place the eyes, like some vinyl heads I've had. That may need modding, depending on what you're going for. (I totally agree about the EID- not my fave body either though I do love the shape.)

YAY! You're already prepared for Miro's quirks then! YES, the lower cost allows for a lot of variety and modification where you don't feel you've wasted money or lost anything if you mess up. Miro is PERFECT for that! And you can get some amazing stuff out of them if you're willing to put in the effort! I am anxious to see what you do!

 

Thanks, Alison. That's a bummer. Also, I'm shocked at how difficult it is (at least in my searching) to find many wigs that are for black women, especially afros. Best I've found are from those beautiful alpaca wig makers in Russia, but they are larger than my budget and take 3 to 4 months to be made. We're all used to waiting, but sometimes you just want something to arrive when the doll arrives.

 

My BJD from Mirodoll just arrived today, she is the lightning sculpt in the dark chocolate skin colour. I am so scared to open her now. But I have too eventually, which is right now! I will be back and add to this discussion, I hope I do bond with her >_< *Fingers Crossed*

~Sometime Later~ Okay wow, I was totally not prepared for her to not fit any of the wigs I have so far, I have one that does but it just doesn't suit her at all (You guys weren't joking about the wig sizes lol). I like her so far, but her eye sockets are really really small. I know I want them modded. She is in need of some restringing and hot glue treatments, I just can't wait to do her face up already...

I did! Unfortunately, the only colors they have that will fit Mika are light brown and pink. I bought a mohair wig from Dollmore so I'll have something for her to wear until I find what I'm looking for.
