Misty Blue Elf Kumi - Yellowing Alert!

Apr 13, 2007

    1. toydogz4: At least with the pink I found out it looks like it fades then stabilizes to a color best described as "beauty pink". I took one spare hand and half spray coated it with regular msc and left it on a window sill for a day.

The next day it faded about two shades on the top. The only way you could tell which side was coated was the coated side was more matte, The fading was even The underside of the hand faded about 1 shade. I took the same hand and exposed it to straight blacklight/uv lamp for one hour the whole hand faded to an even color, top and underside. The lamp was only exposing on the top.

So at least it seems the MSC did not have any protective effect. I'll take pictures tonight to compare with the unexposed hand

    2. aimee: Yes, I agree with Jibrille ... those spots on my Pepe are "blushed" with Viya's blue, so I think your circled areas may very well be the makeup.

Dena: I can see the change! And this is exactly the sort of fading I'm seeing with my Pepe (arrived 7th March) ... subtle, all-over and quite even. It is attractive in its own way, it's just not the original blue. Misty Minty?

    3. Wow you guys, that is amazing how different the color is! Of course I immediately ran up to get my spare hands, but my color has not changed, I'll gladly take pictures. Strangely though, I have 2 spare sets of hands, and the little clenched ones are two left ones! Anybody have 2 rights?

    4. I have a mystiblue Kumi too, since 1 or 2 month, and I compared her boby color with one optionel hand I receiced with her. The Body is no a little more yellow. My kumi is no more Mysti-green than Mysti blue, but she was already quite green since the beginning.

I hope that she won't become too yellow^^

    5. I must admit I was dreadfully sad to have missed out on buying one of these beauties. But I had hoped to buy one maby off the second market.
After this thread popped up I got abit worried.
But I have decided to buy one anyway, and have even found a seller.

I think that even with all the problems these are so adorable I cant resist having one, and I know alot of people feel the same way. So there is hope out there for those that want to sell theirs.

I really think that the problems with the yellowing are disturbing though, I just sold my 1 year old luts Dark Elf Soo, and true, she had yellowed. I expected it, I knew it would happen, I never noticed it because it happend so slowly, and I never really saw the differnace until now when I was selling her and posted arrival and now pictures. @_@
But it happening this fast is entirely unacceptable, specially if you dont know about it before hand.

I know about it, and even if she turnes from being pink to a peach/faded pink or even if all the pigment leaves and she turnes into some weird white version of herself I accept it, because I know the risk.

And this is why I feel that the company should atleast respond to this issue abit more. It seems like many have stated before that its mainly the mistyblue, and the earlier batches that are yellowing, I dont think it would be too much to offer to trade the old one for a new normal white resin coloured one (Those are limited aswell arent they? So also around the same value if not more now with these issues) . Or even if they offer to somehow, "bake" them for you before hand... put the doll in a tanning bed for 10-20min or something so you can have a all over yellowing. Because lets face it, there is nothing as horrible as a farmers tan on these darlings. I would just like them to offer something more then "keep them in the box". Also I know people had their hearts set on a specific colour, and if not that colour then no doll. But if you could trade and get a new one then you can just sell that atleast. And if Bambi would issue a warning and have a speciall "returned dolls sale!" With warning signs about the yellowing issue I think everyone would be happy.

Mehh... I bet all these ideas are horrible but atleast it would be something, I just would like bambicrony to offer something, somekind of solution for those who are really upset about it and unhappy. ((Even if its just sending them a set of those limited googles or something as a "sorry, we messed up" kind of thing, it would be less expencive then refunding all the dolls and it seems most owners are more upset about the fact that they are basically denying this issue.))

Anyways that was my rant on the subject, I will go back to stalking it again.
And my hopes are with those that are unhappy that a solution can be found.

    6. I should've listened to Liz, but I'm a dolt ...

As I was taking photos of Peony outside for the first time today (photos are in the gallery), I was adjusting her wig and noticed some yellowing around the ring of her head (just below the headcap).

I haven't had her in any direct light, but I have had her sitting next to my bed at times, somewhat under my lamp. What's strange is, that of all the places, I thought her feet would have yellowed, since she doesn't have any shoes - but the area where her wig was on and where her wig is the thickest is where she yellowed.

I think it's just the resin coloring setting, though. That's the only explaination I can come up with.

I'm not too worried about it right now, since it's a part that's covered by wigs.

But I just wanted to let people know that YES, THE PINK ELVES *ARE* "YELLOWING".

    7. What colour is she turning.
A more Peachy pink like some have described or?

    8. Hmmmm, I'll have to take the wig of my pink pepe and see how he's holding up. Could it be from the wig itself? Which wig?

    9. Unfortunately, it's not peach :( It's a yellow with a hint of peach.

She's been wearing the fur wig that's in the photos here: http://www.denofangels.com/forums/showthread.php?t=134825

    10. Hmmm.... under the wig... well. It doesn't seem to be as simple as exposure to light, then, if the yellowing isn't on the exposed areas of her body...

And not everyone is reporting yellowing... although maybe it's just a matter of time...

      Really odd! *_*

    11. The change is quite dramatic in some, isn't it. They've gone from very bright jewel colours in some to very dull. My friend bought one of the misty-blues and it came a bright bright blue. But now it's greenish, aqua.

Maybe it's the radiation? Ambiant radiation from Sunlight, meaning that even where they weren't directly exposed to sunlight they can still yellow?

I guess you could use rit-dye to fix up the really faded ones? :S

    12. What's really odd is that mine has been aqua from day one, and hasn't changed at all. She was never "blue". Maybe that's the color they're supposed to be.

Is it possible that the discoloration under the wig on the pink elf is a reaction to chemicals within the fabric? It's a synthetic fur with metallic pieces in it, perhaps there's something affecting the resin where the wig sits snugly, considering the pattern of fading.

    13. It differs in batches aswell. Its seems its mostly the first batches that are having the problems.
I am ofcourse upset for those whom it bothers but it aint stopping me from buying my little pink princess. And I am not going to leave her in the box all the time either.

    14. I exposed one of Aisling's hand's and I compared non exposed hand to the over exposed hand and Aisling herself.

The sun exposed hand is bleached not yellowing and more exposure bleaches to a light color and stabilized. Aisling herself does look lighter all over except for blushed parts and whee her faceup is. Honestly I think she's gotten prettier with time somehow.

Jibrille: Are you sure it's not blushing? Viya faceups have blushed heads.

I'll take pictures of everything on the weekend or earlier. I keep getting home late lately.

    15. I have to admit, I had a picture of putting one in a spoon and dipping it in an Easter egg bath. Probably bad for dye getting on clothing after even if there weren't some chemical reaction... (try it on a hand! says my little devil on shoulder...)

      Becca the Alice

    16. hmm... "apricot?"

    17. It was just a typo, should have said Minty Blue. :)

(Yes, I'm happily going to have a green bebe myself. :aheartbea :aheartbea :aheartbea )

    18. Yeah, I mentioned the blushing issue with Aimee a few posts back. Mine is blushed the same way as hers (just in pink) ... And the areas that are yellow are above the blushed areas. It's right on the rim.

I checked it again today as I was putting her in a new dress, and it's barely noticable indoors. When outdoors on a sunny day or directly under a lamp, though, it's pretty obvious.

I'm not really worried about it. I just wanted to let people know.

My mom told me I should put her in a box. Like a shoe box w/o the lid and have it sit upright so I can still see her face and such, but she'd be protected. I still don't like that idea, even if she's not boxed all the way. I like having her sit around next to my bed or my computer. She's sitting on my bed right now with Absynthe.

    19. that's encouraging... it's been a while longer,... I'm still not noticing a big change in my MB roko... but I haven't taken her outside either.

    20. Well fading or not.
I am keeping my little angel. And she is not going to be hidden away either, I love the idea of her turning either a soft peach colour or even just a lighter shade of pink. I think it will just add to her character. ^^
I even considered naming her Peaches just incase she does turn abit peachy. :XD: Although I think the name my friends said as a joke is actually quite sticking.... (Note: we were kidding around on ventrillo and its only guys I was currently talking to) I told them I could possibly be getting a pink beauty, and one of the guys yelled "Pinku Desu!!!" And after that it seems that they all are agreed apon that that is the name. :sweat
Its kinda cute, but at the same time horrible :XD:
So current choices. Peaches or Pinku Desu!!
