Misty Blue Elf Kumi - Yellowing Alert!

Apr 13, 2007

    1. other than the rim around her head, Peony is just as pink as ever. I've had her under the lamp and sitting on my bed, and even her feet haven't changed colors.

I think it's safe to say that for the most part, the Pink Elves will stay pink.

But the fact that the rim that had changed WASN'T peach or peachy-pink kinda made me sick to the stomach for a moment. It's kinda ick yellow. I really hope I can take pics as proof soon, but getting the right lighting around here is hard.

I think the name "Pinku" or "Pinky" would be cute, LWR.

I honestly don't think the pink ones won't be turning any dramatic colors for a couple of years or so.

    2. I had wanted to get one of these beauties, it's sad that their resin is so unstable.
But I have to say that I'm even more in love with the minty green than the MB, it seems they just keep getting more beautiful. Even if they continue to "yellow"/it looks more like they are fading IMO/ they are still the most beautiful. (I'm so jealous.)

    3. ^^' I might not have any choice in the end, the name seems stuck even though she isnt here yet. But I can live with it. :XD:

    4. Anyone new having yellowing problems?

It seems as if most colored BCs are holding their color. There were a number of them at the San Diego meetup (at least four Misty Blues, two LSG, at least one Rose), and I didn't hear about any big problems from the owners.

(I'm really, really hoping it's just a small percentage of colored elves that may experience problems!!! Purely selfish of me, I know!) *_*

    5. well... I've only taken mine outside briefly, twice. She still seems to be the same color, or at least if she's changin colors it's evenly. It's hard to say. I'm still afraid to take her out in the direct sun.

    6. No apparent yellowing on my MB Pepe, although I've kept it out of direct sunlight. It gets a fair amount of indirect sunlight, though. Also it was always a lot more 'aqua' than blue. I'm not sure if that means it started out yellower.

    7. Spork, my LSG Pepe seems to be more of the grey color now. When I got him he was more a pretty heathery lavender color, but he photographed more grey. Now he is just grey. I some times see a bit of a hint of the old purple undertones, but it is very faint.

I think that the color just needed to settle out a bit. I wouldn't call it yellowing. Just more of an initially unstable color settling out to the intended color. He's still so cute! :XD:

    8. Well... it's good to know that not all the colored elves will turn spotty yellow after a month or so!!! *_*

I guess we'll all just hope for no further reports of uneven fading (slow, overall yellowing I can see, given the French Resin). It was mostly the reports of sudden spotty changes that were alarming...

I hope those with some uneven changes aren't going to get any worse than they are, at least! Good luck, everyone!!! :)

    9. Yes I second that, I hope everyone is happy with their elves and that they don't do anything alarming colorwise! My Shirley is still just the same, and I adore her.

    10. I hope you can rescue her to Peaches, because "pink" is slang for well... the personal parts of a woman which are colored that way. >.<;; Anyway I like Peaches a lot! ^_^

    11. strange I have never heard of the slang word

    12. and i have heard that the song peaches (by the presidents of the usa) was actaully not about peaches but about girly parts (but i like the song better if it was just fruity peaches :)..)
so just call her whatever you like that's what my parents did when they called me floor :)

    13. LOL! That's exactly what I was thinking! We were reminded at bath time to make sure our peaches were clean!

Darn, double entendres! I can't wish someone a happy ending anymore either! ;)

    14. Not to alarm any Misty Rose owners, but I think my Pepe has faded. Not yellowed, but definitely seems lighter pink. I'll take some pictures tomorrow to compare with this colour:

I hope its just my imagination. Has anyone noticed their MR's are paler?

    15. Just posting here to say I've noticed yellowing on my LSG Kumi (she's the bluish version as opposed to the purplish version).

Here's what I posted in another thread dealing with these guys and the yellowing:

Just today I noticed my LSG (bluish) Kumi is starting to yellow!

I was prepared to deal with this when I bought her, so I'm not upset, but just thought I'd mention it here to compare with others' experiences.

She's been outside a total of three times, no longer than 10 minutes each time, and never ever in sunlight, in fact I had her in deep shade (I only take my dolls outside to photograph in deep shade at the end of the day, and I've been especially careful with her). My house is half underground, and has dark red cedar walls, and this particular room gets little ambient/window light too.

It'll be interesting to see what she looks like in a year or more! :-O

As long as her color remains satisfactorily "weird" I'm happy with her. If she turns tan I'll be mad! D-:< LOL

    16. this whole issue has made me seriously rethink buying an LSG Pepe, cause the yellowing on the blue ones is kinda cute, but the LSG fading is just ugly... so I'm not sure anymore... a friend of mine had a Misty Blue Kumi at the last meetup, and she was yellowed.

[IMG] you can kinda see it on her fingers, but like said in the first post, it's hard to tell on camera... she's so pretty still though. I'd actually go for a blue one even if it fades... the purple one not so much..

    17. Just thought I'd add a pic to this, I went to change the hands on my Mistyblue Kumi and was shocked at how much the ones that have been on her since I got her have yellowed (or 'greened' actually!) compared to the others which have been in a box, it is really noticeable. She hasn't been outside and isn't in direct sunlight. I still love her to bits though!
      (yellowed hand on the right!)

    18. Actually the Whitening Tutorial made me go back and look at this thread again.

Not that I think the colored elves can be bleached (I think they'd lose their colors too that way O_o), but I'm more concerned about the "browning" that's described on the Naraes also made from French Resin. And we all learned that the BCs are not UV-stabilized in any way...would they not only yellow, but turn brown or "suntan" as well? While this may a lesser concern for skin-colored dolls, I'd be extremely disheartened to know that the blue elves would turn into a mix of greenish brown one day *horror* >_<

Any inputs? Right now I'm still observing "green to yellowish green" on my mistyblue girl...it also seems the blue is fading away with time. Any others with blue elves observed otherwise?

    19. I have two Mistyblue Kumi Elves...

One of them came to me a bit greener (I always described him as looking more like the "glow in the dark" color than blue) and he's yellowing pretty badly. He came to me straight from Bambicrony this way. (Seeing as how I had actually wanted a green elf though, I didn't complain)

The other one is still a very pretty blue color with no real yellowing that I can see... and, although I am not this one's original owner, I asked the original owner if she had treated her specially by keeping her out of the light, and the original owner said no. Granted, she had never been in direct sunlight... but neither has my other Kumi who is yellowing.

So... I'm observing two totally different reactions between two Mistyblue Kumi Elves who, from the way it sounds, have been kept in pretty much the same lighting condtions, the one that is yellowing more might possibly have even been kept *more* out of the sunlight... it's really bizarre.

    20. I don't have a blue but I noticed with my pink one exposure to sunlight causes bleaching of the doll. The pink pigment is fading on mine too.

I think the dolls look more green yellow as the blue fades because they might have used a slightly yellower french resin base for the blue elves.

I wonder what pigment BC used to tint the resin.
