1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

MSD versus SD?

Jul 4, 2008

    1. I started with an MSD, then got an SD and realised the SD's are way too big for me. So I sold the SD. I'm now getting another MSD and actually selling my tiny, too. MSD's are easy to carry around and easy to pose. I especially love the more mature ones, like Narae, Unoa and MiniSup.

    2. Just to let everyone know, I ordered my first girl today- an Iplehouse Basic Tatiana. I love her little face, and out of the two JID sculpts available, my dad (who is paying!) chose to get her for my birthday over Tania (I'll be saving and buying Tania myself later). I'm so excited! You guys were right- in the end, I let the looks and personality of the girl choose for me. Plus, Iplehouse just seem to have it all going for them; sound customer service, beautiful sculpts and very high quality (from what I've heard, their resin is really good).

I can't thank you all enough for your help, seriously <3

    3. Congratulations! : D

    4. This is actually a really useful thread. I'm saving up too, and I'm trying to decide what kind of doll to get first.
Congrats Freija on your decision :)
Hope we can see pics of your dolls soon.

    5. congrats on finally getting your decision.
but seriously, the size really dont matter :D

    6. Have fun with your doll. I have one MSD and several SD's. I love them both, but I don't even look up MSDs anymore. I have settled with SDs.

    7. Congratulations on your purchase, hope to see many pictures when she arrives.

And I'm just going to toss in my say to this thread anyway, in case someone else comes across it.

I'll be the first to admit that I am very wishy-washy about the dolls I own and have owned, and I have had both SD and MSD, and in the end, I have found that I much prefer the MSDs, but more specifically the mature MSDs such as the MiniFee.

I am sometimes saddened that the clothing for MSDs does tend to be, not so much limited in choice, but perhaps less imaginative than what can be found for SD dolls, and it seems to me that the more fantastic the MSD outfit, the younger the look of it. I don't like the child MSDs nearly as much as I like the mature looking ones, so that can be problematic.

However, I love how easy it is to cart the smaller size about, and how they sit wonderfully in the crook of your arm and you needn't josel your things quite so much (I carry way too much stuff with me to meet-ups it seems).

They also strike me as being less daunting when you come across people who really aren't in the hobby. Its more familiar to see a doll that's of a similar size to like Barbie or whoever, but when you pull out some of the larger sizes, I find people tend to get all up in arms about it rather quickly.

Anyway, that's my bit for it. :p

    8. I just got my first BJD last month, I got a DollZone Megi2, which is an MSD. Let me give you the reasons for my decision, and maybe that will help you make your own.

First, I've only actually seen BJD's for very breif moments at anime conventions, just enough to wet my appetite, I guess you could say. But I didn't have any real time to make preferences, this over that, you know. Realistically, I had to look at things this way: once I buy the doll, I don't know if I will like this hobby as much as I think I would, and if that is the case, would I rather lose $300 or $700? The resale value on these dolls are pretty good, but I was thinking of worst case senario. Also, if I love the doll, what sorts of things can I do with him? Can I take him places, show him off? How portable will he be? How easy would it be to sew clothes for him? How would I store him when I'm not playing with him? These are all questions you should ask yourself. I chose to look for a MSD because he was less of a risk, more portable, and easier to store.

That being said, I recommend against buying a MSD if you're in love with a SD. I chose my Megi2 because I loved the way he looked in pictures. I loved him more than any other doll I saw. I could have gone smaller, and cheaper, if I wanted to be totally practical and safe, but if you get a doll you are so-so with, then you don't really know if this hobby is indeed for you. Bottom line, get whatever it is that you love, because you're more likely to stay in love with it.

But, please take into consideration, I've had my BJD for less than a month, so someone with more experience in this might be a better person to defer to. I'm just giving my newbie opinion. :blush
