Multiple dolls for one character?

Dec 13, 2009

    1. I have two dolls for my character Ilari, an MSD (age 12) and an SD (18). The main reason is that I wanted to have my favorite couple as dolls. I bought two (!) different SD girls that didn't work for the character before giving up and shelling her in the same mold as her daughter. So, then I had to get a smaller Ilari to go with her. ^^ Two of my Bambicrony Emilys are also the same character, Lorina at age 10 and her reincarnation Mariana at the same age.

If I was going to get any more dolls I'd probably do it again, too. XD; My gray IH Luna's character has a human version...

    2. I have three dolls of my two main characters. :sweat One set as teenagers (MSDs), one as young adults (SDs), and chibi versions (pukis.)

    3. Like many other's have said, I also have an adult and child version of one of my dolls :)

I have my Minifee Chloe as a teenage version of my Pukifee Mio :)

I have, in the past, had plans for a Minifee Miyu to be a teenage version for my Soom Ai - but I've yet to find a reason to need one XD

    4. I think your perfectly sane for having multiples of the same character. I ordered two boys myself and will be turning them both into the same character, but representing his two different personalities.

    5. I made a character of mine into a BJD, but now I want to make a Dollfie Dream version too! I always draw the character in anime style, so it makes good sense to have an anime style doll for him. But the BJD version is still super pretty~ Just more elegant and mature.

    6. I'm not sure that I have done that-- But I know Tygati does that with her doll Shaial.

    7. I don't have older and younger BJD versions of the same character, but I do have alternate heads for four of my adult characters. I have sleep heads for my SoulDoll Lune and my ElfDoll Red. Plus I have a DollZone Cherry with two heads. One has been modded to have her eyes half closed. And my k-doll boy who wears kabuki makeup all the time has two heads, kill_U 2nd and Karon, with different makeup on each one.

I want to get a fifth one too, a Ninodoll Bada with his eyes modded closed. :aheartbea

    8. I don't really have any older or younger versions of my own character. One of my dolls really resembles my SD, but I don't really look at them as the same person. I think it would be okay for someone to have two dolls for the same character if they really love that character's story.. But I don't think I would, I'd want to work on buying a doll for another character.

    9. I plan to get my Yui an MSD version of his character ten years earlier prior to his SD incarnation .u. I am also ridiculously happy that I found and MSD sculpt that resembles his so closely too!

    10. I think it would be awesome to have the same character at different points in their life! ^_^

    11. I do the opposite: more characters for a one doll )))

    12. it's not wrong, what you do with your dolls is solely up to you
I've thought of doing this too but decided against it for my dolls, I think it's cool when people do photostories that have a younger and older version of the same doll though

    13. I have plans to get four different versions of one of my characters....two are tinies, one is mini and one is large. They're all dolls that I really like, so I don't see the problem with it. Just might get a little confusing name-wise.
I really like seeing the interactions that people set up when they have a younger version and an older version of the same character, I think it's really interesting.

    14. Wellllll... Since I posted last (1 year and 2 months ago), my number of "duplicates" has, um, quadrupled. I have acquired an MSD version of another SD doll, and worse, I have two SD versions of two characters. So, um, I have THREE versions of Morgana and Gawain. For Morgana the second SD version is almost warranted (;p) because the second body I got for her has wings, so it's quite different from the first. But for Gawain I got a second body just because I love the second body and don't want to get rid of his first.

      *sigh*

    15. Me and my friend have a couple of characters who we want multiple dolls for xD (basically two, younger and older versions). Right now, I only own one if them though~ x3
So I think it's definitely alright, or even the opposite like someone mentioned. It's totally fine to do what you want with your dolls :3

    16. I have two dolls for one of my characters. They are both Dollshe Saints, but one is in pale skin and the other is in fresh skin. They have pretty much identical faceups done by the same faceup artist, because they are meant to be alternate versions of the same character. In his story, his skintone and eye color can change depending on his emotions, so I wanted two dolls to represent him. And because I love his character so much :)

    17. I posted in this thread twice before...since then it's just exploded...

I have multiple versions of a lot of my characters, mostly in SD size, Mini and then Puki. I have child versions of three of them, and one of my characters has 13 versions (though one is a floating head atm. He used to have a body and will again someday...). 15 if you count the two Dals. 17 if you're in my head. I can't promise to stop there...I kind of use him as a reason to own certain dolls -- I wanted a Narsha but had no reason to own one so I made it into another Alex. Instant keeper. One of my other dolls has three heads for expression changes (I have had them for months and am only just now trying to get face ups on them *fail*). Two of my 6 Kara Klums started out as "extra" heads...but no way can I get this other doll bodies to go with all his heads. A, I don't want too and B, his body is discontinued and too expensive *kicks him* so he just gets extra heads.

The puki and mini versions came about the same way...I wanted a Puki, it became Alex, he got lonely so I got a few more...and they sorta blew up into a whole "cast". I got a Doll Chateau Colin (Alex again) who also got lonely, so somehow this year in between trades and body swaps, I ended up with almost the same cast as Minis. Minus a few I either will or won't end up getting...funds, space, luck and interest factor in to whether or not I end up with some dolls.

It's fun to have different sizes. I get bored easily, and sometimes I get obsessed with different sizes. And I like recreating certain characters. Now if only I could get around to photographing them all....

    18. So I last posted to this thread way back at the start with one set of dolls as the same character (adult and child version)... just last month, I added two more, though this time they're just minis/chibis of the adults, not child versions. I'm planning to set up basically the same family in both a mini/MSD size and a tiny/YO size, so the number of duplicates I have is going to absolutely skyrocket! I'm loving having multiples, too, each version gives me something different and fun to do that the other doesn't.

    19. I haven't thought of that but it sounds a really good idea once I get more into the hobby I will definately try this :)

    20. This is interesting, and I liked the topic because at some point I plan on getting a Timelord. (Not /that/ timelord--but his (a) daughter. XD) And I've thought about it. With a base of 13 different looks, it'd be so COOL to do that in doll form--but also very very expensive. x.x If you have the time and space for it (no pun intended), I think it'd be cool. But I'd probably only stick to incarnations of my Timelord that I played.
