NABIYETTE fairy - 5.5cm

Sep 18, 2010

    1. Ooh! I'm excited, too! Uhm... I'm pretty sure you can blow dry a real fur wig, I've done it in the past... I've never shrunk one though, I actually soaked it, then stretched it.

    2. Well, before bed last night the wig was still drying. I'm about to check it again. It SHOULD be dry by the time I get home tonight, though. Then I can play with her face-up (since I'm adding PearlEx Powders to gloss to do so, so this nasty rain won't affect it any! No need to re-seal, as that would get rid of the shimmer and shine that I want!) and put her head back on! And...worse case...the wig I want her in still won't fit...so she'll be put in the blue one my 4 year old liked for her. That came with Dahlia when I bought her! ^-^ Reminds me...I need something better than silicone ear plugs to hold on Dahlia's current wig, and that blue one if the new girl gets it. Hmmm...

Niko! You snuck in a post while I was reading and typing! I want to just blow dry it dry...but I can't find my blowdryer...I KNOW I had one...I think that someone who moved in about a year ago accidentally took it with her when she moved out...or else I put it in storage when I had my hair cut short and have forgotten that I did so. I'll have to look to be sure! But by the time I'm done looking, it'll probably have dried on it's own! lol

OK...it was mostly dry, but still not shrinking enough...so I got frustrated, grabbed my 'dying pot' that I haven't used yet, boiled some water in it, wrapped Moona's head in plastic wrap, put the wig on her, used a twist tie to secure it to her head how I wanted, and dipped it a few times. PROGRESS! Now it's re-twist tied to her head to keep it in place while it dries, so it doesn't shrink TOO much, since it's nearly a perfect fit right now! Now to find a hair dryer...of set up a fan to prop the head up in front of. Lol.

    3. New post 'cause I'm tired of editing my last one today. Lol. Got the wig shrunk pretty good...still a little bit big, but I can live with that. Did one enhancement...hated it...took it off, and took off her base face-up when I did...oops. Re-painted again in all gloss stuffs, put her head back on...and can't find my silicone ear plugs (my eye putty) to put in her eyes, or help keep her wig on! Frustrated beyond all belief tonight! Oh...and some of Dahlia's body work rubed off, and so has to be re-done, too.

    4. Aww, I'm sorry to hear about dolly frustration :( reminds me of the day I did my MSD girls last face-up XD I kept bumbling around and smudging my own work and having to start over even though it was looking good.

    5. Well, this morning I'm pleased enough to leave her face alone until we get into good face-p weather. ^-^ With her wig, it looks decently cute, even, if a bit...amateur and big for her tiny size. And Dahlia's body work won't be too hard to re-do. I just need to decide on her if it's worth it now that I'm starting to dress her or not. Because, being realistic, when I clothe her, it's GOING to rub the body work. Her face and neck are fine, but the stuff lower than that WILL be rubbed by clothing. And rubbing WILL cause it to come off. So I'm debating if it's worth it to re-do it every so often or not.

    6. Hi all, new to this thread, and not 100% sure if I should post her here, or in the fat fairy thread, but since this is mostly about her wig, and her head is Nabiyette... She's a Nabiyette/sleepingelf fat fairy hybrid, who I bought from Raesha. I think she's been posted in this thread before.

I just sewed her a wig today. It's the first time I've made a wig, and it came out a bit too big, but with a bit of eye putty on her head it stays just fine, and it's better than bald! She's quite happy about having hair now.

Ayas-Shadow: I am intrigued by your mention of wig-shrinking, since this wig has a leather base. So did you dip her while it was still boiling hot? How much shrinking did you manage?

    7. Cowpewter,
Your wig is really pretty!! :D I love the color especially <3
I remember Raesha posting her, she's quite the lovely fairy ;DDD What did you name her? :D

    8. First off...I am totally jealous! I was REALLY hoping to get that girl! *laughs* I hope we see her often in here! I just love her!

Next...I had my girl's head removed anyway, so I wrapped it in saran wrap, put the wig on, and tied it in place with a wire tie off of some random toy belonging to one of my boys. It was one of those that's covered in a thick layer of plastic, used to hold toys in their packaging. I did that to keep it in place, because the wig was WAY too big. Her head all but drowned in it! But I LOVED the color, and the feel, and it was sent with her by the previous owner. (this girl is a Tinybear/sleepingelf Moona, who I talk about in here because the tinybear threads have been REALLY quiet since Carrie lost her husband in April, and she's the BFF of my Nabiyette right now)

So...once I had that done, I boiled a pot of water (it's my dolly work pot, used for boiling dolly things, or dying dolly pieces). I turned it down to a simmer so I wouldn't burn myself, pulled the hair up to the plastic wrap 'tail' coming off the head, and held it by that while I dipped. Just a second, then pulled out, checked how much it shrank, dipped again, checked again, dipped again. After 3 or 4 dips, it had shrunk by a LOT. I pulled it securely in place, to sit where I wanted in the front on the forehead, and in the back, at the 'nape' of the neck. Then I borrowed a blow drier from my dad (since I can't find mine for the life of me! Need to buy a new one.) to dry the wig more quickly. Got it down to just barely damp, and took it off to finish drying (air drying this time) because it was STILL a tad too big (still is, but with some eye putty, I use silicone ear plugs, it stays on well enough for me now) and I wanted to work on her face anyway. I'd say the wig was easily 1-2 sizes too big before I dipped it to shrink it, and now it's the right size, just not a perfect fit to her head. And with on the skin wigs, if it's not a perfect fit, it'll slip. I've got another wig I want to shrink, for one of my yo sized dolls (BBB March) to get a better, tighter fit, just haven't done it yet. that one's the right size, but because it's not a perfect fit, it falls off a LOT when she's wearing it, and drives me crazy!

And now...I'm out. I'll be lurking a lot the next few weeks. 3 weeks to finish my new house, and get moved in, so I'll be REALLY busy. I'm on now 'cause I'm taking a lunch break. ^-^

    9. cowpewter Ahaha! I LOVE her! I think you can share her here anytime you want since the head is Nabiyette. That wig color is lovely!!

Ayas-Shadow Bwah! Sorry the wig is still giving you trouble, and I'm sorry to hear you'll be gone for a bit, but we'll be here when you come back. :3

    10. I agree, I hope Cowpewter can keep sharing her girl here <3 <3 She's not OT is she? D; I hope not <3 she's gorgeous :P

Ayas, wooow that sounds like a process!!! I hope it's a much better fit now and gives you less trouble!

Rae wanted to pop in and say HI. We found her the cutest little geisha dolly and she wanted to show her nabiyette friends <3. She used to be a keychain, but I took the lil eye thing off of the top of her head. <3

I also found some super cute boots for her, but they're really wide for her feet and I can't get her to stand very well in them :/ I wonder if there's something I can do to make them fit better? What do you guys think? They're awfully cute giant chunky goth boots on her. :P But she tips forward when I put them on her.

    11. Queedie2: OMG that geisha doll is so cute and just her size!! Lottie is jealous! XD Um, I put some hot glue on the bottom of Lottie's boots because they made her tip backward. I used the hot glue to just kind of add to the sole of the shoe to even it out. It doesn't look perfect, but its the bottom of her feet anyway. I can take some photos when I'm home today. :3 Those red boots are so cute btw!

Edit: So here's Lottie standing in her boots...

    12. Here's HOW she stands in her boots... looks like she stepped in something XD but it works.

    13. oooooh Niko, where did you get those boots? xDDD Those are way cute <3
I think these red boots are a bit big on her, but I thought the look would be cute <3
I'll def check into doing something like that. Maybe my neighbor has a glue gun.

xDDD Most neighbors borrow sugar! Not this girl ;D

    14. I got them from mimiwoo.com, the 1/6 dollfie section. She posts all the measurements of the shoes so you can find a pair that isn't too tall.

    15. Ayas-Shadow: thanks for the detailed write up! I might have to try that this weekend. Her wig is not *that* oversized, maybe like half a size too large, but definitely not 1-2. I think what happened is, I made the pattern by wrapping her head in plastic wrap, putting tape on and tracing the shape I wanted then cutting the tape and laying it flat on paper to trace the pattern bits. Then I cut out the paper and traced it on the leather, and then cut just outside the lines and sewed *on* the lines. I think I need to sew *inside* the lines...cause all that tracing made the pieces maybe just a millimeter bigger. No problem when making pattern pieces for SD clothes, but for such a tiny wig...it made a big difference :doh

I also have a ton of that fur left, and there's a few other things I'm not completely happy with that wig too, so I might just remake it.

We haven't picked a name yet, her personality is still settling and she's definitely calmed down a bit now that she has hair. I brought her to work with me this week and she's been keeping me company at my desk:

She has told me that she wants to try yellow eyes, but it will have to wait a month or so. I'm getting ready to move to a new apartment and I don't want to have to worry about packages going to the wrong address, so no mail-order purchases for me for a bit!

Nikopiko: I love Lottie's style! She's adorable. Did you make her clothes and bag?

    16. cowpewter Your girl is looking cute, I look forward to seeing her in the future if you change her eyes and when you find a name for her!

I made all of Lottie's clothes, and the bag is a little G.I. Joe accessory that I just attached to a ribbon so she could use it as a bag. :3

    17. I agree! I can see your girl's personality starting to shine through in the photos, Cowpewter <3
The name "Twila" (T-why-lah) came to my mind when I saw her :o
xD She will tell you her name soon I'm sure :D When she gets to know you XDD

    18. Dahlia with her new friend, now that the poor new girl finally has a face-up! She still hasn't got a name, though.

    19. Ooh, that's a pretty cool face-up on Dahlia's friend! Is there a story behind it? I'm looking forward to photo shoots of these two girls!

    20. No story behind it yet...was just going for something more...ornate...and fantasy looking. She's going to be another little fairy/sprite, and will eventually have wings. As soon as I can figure the darned things out for Dahlia, and design hers! And...once I get to doing some sewing for them, I'll be happily taking far more photos than I should of them! Heck...since I like to do naked photo shoot with my mature bodied dolls, They'll likely get way more photos taken than I should be doing right now anyway!
