natural face ups or fancy face ups?

Jan 2, 2013

    1. My preferences tend to be based on the sculpt and resin colour. Overall I prefer unnatural looking face ups and I struggle to do more normal looking work. That's not to say I can't, it just doesn't appeal to me so I find it hard to be enthusiastic about it!

    2. It definitely depends on the character I have in mind for the sculpt - but no matter what, I want it to be at least more believable even if it's not natural. Even if it's fantasy, it's cooler if it looks realistic.

    3. I tend to go for fairly simple natural faceups. I only do the slightest bit of contouring in muted browns and grays. Oh, except for my Egyptian themed dolls, who tend to go a little heavy on the eye makeup.

    4. I like natural faceups for my human dolls, just how I like real people. The non-human ones would have a mostly natural look except for certain features exaggerated according to their character.

    5. some fancy faceup is really great, but I personally prefer natural:dance

    6. I can't choose. Both of variants look amazing. In my future collection I want dolls with natural and fantasy make-up.:love

    7. Chloe and Johanna have natural face-ups and Guinevere has a fancy face-up. I love Guinevere's makeup; she's got shimmery pink lips and lavender eye shadow, and she's the only one of my girl dolls with eyelashes. However, I prefer natural face-ups because they are more versatile. I don't have to worry about matching clothes to a certain eye shadow or lip color...not that that really matters. But I like natural face-ups a lot.

    8. Depends on the doll, all my dolls have the faceups they came with and i dont really want to change all except 1.
I originally wanted a fancy fantasy theme for my cynamon but now the more that i look at her i like how simple she looks.

    9. Like a lot of people have said, it depends on the character and everything. I only have very light natural faceups on my dolls right now, but I'd like to at least get Aelic a still natural but a little more detailed face sometime in the near future. I love things like freckles and discolorations and stuff that make the doll look more realistic.

That being said, I also adore fantasy faceups~ My next doll's character is a selkie, so he'll have a more fantasy-esque face and I'm really excited for it!

    10. I prefer natural face-ups

    11. I think it depends on the sculpt for me and whatever I imagine for that character. I guess I am somewhere kind of in-between with the faceup styles. I don't usually prefer the really natural looking faces on my girls, so I would usually go for something with more bold looking makeup. Not entirely "fantasy" per se, but still not natural really. So I guess my style for my girls would be more just glam looking. So somewhere between natural and fantasy.

    12. It depends, I'm more for natural faceups for taller dolls and dramatic makeup for my short dolls.

    13. I love both! But I'm more comfortable doing natural face-ups...gotta get out of my comfort zone and start doing much more fantasy!

    14. I have both on the same doll(during one year)- face up from the same artist- first i wanted very natural almost albino look but it was too much white for me.

So i asked for more expressive face up with watercolor splatters(because im illustrator and she is sitting on my table:)

And i love her more and more! Sometimes you must search and combine all styles:3

    15. I love natural ones! Especially neutral-looking. It allows me to give so much more diversity in wigs, clothing, eyes etc. If I have a very specific character in mind that I know will never change their style, I like fantasy faceups. At the same time, if the faceup is Extra, the entire doll needs to be Extra. So as a project it would be fun. It all depends on the doll I'm getting, should I be honest.

    16. I tend to stick with mostly natural face-ups for my own dolls(because I'm sort of boring when it comes to that) but I really love painting fun and fancy face-ups! When it comes to other people's dolls I find that the more dramatic and fancy face-ups really does grab my attention more often, especially if done really good along with artistic photos ^w^

    17. WOW your doll is so pretty!!!!!! I love natural faceups on white skin dolls, i feel like it shows up better ^^ and looks prettier from far away and shows well in photos too~

    18. Most of my dolls are better suited to natural faceups, but it all depends on the character for me! Adrienne really needs a hint of makeup to look her best, and Bryn wears painted marks based on his role in the story. I'm actually planning my first heavily made up face right now--if all goes well, I'll spend the next few days painting eyeshadow in four different colors and some intense winged eyeliner, and I'm excited to do it!

    19. Generally I just want natural looking makeup. It really depends on the style of the doll, if it's gonna be wearing fancy costumes then it should go with the overall look, more elaborate then. I like to have maybe a basic make-up face and I can just put some temporary eye shadows, facial colors and designs and be remove later on easily. :)

    20. I would have to say both. It just depends on what kind of doll I want. I also really like the looks of what others may call werid dolls such as DH Elizabeth.
