natural face ups or fancy face ups?

Jan 2, 2013

    1. This really depends on what you consider "natural" or "fancy". If we define "natural" as looking like the doll has little to no make-up on, and "fancy" as having a moderate to heavy amount of make-up on, then I strongly prefer fancy. Dolls who look like they're wearing no make-up at all usually bore me. I've received heads with default face-ups that barely had any color to them, and I had them all repainted.

However, if we're defining "natural" as anything not overly dramatic (boys with lots of blushing and eyeliner counts as natural in this definition, but not the first definition, for instance), and "fancy" as face-ups with large tattoos, unnatural blushing colors, strips on color on a random part of the dolls face, clown make-up, etc, then I generally prefer natural.

    2. I prefer having natural face-ups but love looking at others fancy face-ups! So I'm very happy some people prefer "fancy".

    3. I prefer natural-looking faceups for my own dolls

If "fancy" is a way of saying "fantastical" or "fantasy" then I'd say that while I very much enjoy admiring dolls in that style, it's not my preference for my own. I've seen some really awesome and brilliant work done in that style. I will go out of my way to look for photos of them, but I just don't feel the need to own them.

If "fancy" means in the style of stage make up, then I'd have to say I'm not a fan. Of course, I've seen dolls that are done up that way with a great deal of skill, and I admire the skill element, but purely as styles go it's just not my thing.

    4. It dependes on the doll character, if it is a fantasy character then I like a bright colorful faceup. But if it just a real life character I like natural faceups.

    5. If "fancy" meant heavy and more elaborate faceups, I would prefer to have natural, but not to the point of nude because it's too lifeless for me, I love sad and fragile looking faces. But if it's body-wise, I love fancy, tattoos, major scarring, mods, you name it. :)

    6. It depends on a lot of things, like the personality of the doll's character, the species, etc. I generally prefer for my human characters to have more natural face-ups, or for it to look like they're wearing every day make-up, like most people do. My more feminine characters will have lighter, more delicate looking face-ups, my more gothy characters will have darker face-ups, etc.
As for non-human characters, their face-ups will probably be more fancy and colourful.
And then there's one doll I have that has two heads with two different face-ups. Her "human" head(So she can walk freely among actual humans), which has a more natural looking face-up, and her "demon" head(for her true demon form), which has a much darker, more intimidating face-up.

    7. Depends massively on the character that they're supposed to be - though so far the guys I've got have tended towards more natural (in my opinion anway)

    8. i'm trying to pick out doll types that i like... and seems many of the stores i come across have dolls with a fancy faceup and it feels like its simply not balanced in my opinion. too much blush or something. i can't get past it at the moment, but maybe i'll just get used to it with time.

    9. I like natural face ups.. but I've always wanted a MSD with a darker face up, & red lips. :)

The closest that I've gotten to a not so natural face up was my MSD girl that has a natural face up with pink lips/eyes.. but dark eye makeup & lashes. She was my little trouble maker, & it turned out perfectly :aheartbea

    10. I think I prefer stylized natural faceups (with a touch of dramatic makeup or a few piercings) for my human dolls and fancy faceups for my more colorful characters (like mimes or elves). And both are so fun to see on other peoples dolls. :) There are genuine works of art on both fronts.

    11. It all depends on the dolls character, I love seeing fancy faceups but I prefer natural-ish on my own.( basic eyeliner etc and blush )

    12. Natural - my characters are the "person next door" kind, so they wouldn't look too fancy. My girls will have a little makeup on, the boys will be natural all the way. But I do enjoy looking at more fancy faceups (themed, colorful, fantasy, tattoos - all sorts) :D

    13. My BJDs mostly have natural faceups (especially the boys!), but I have a couple of mature girls that I wanted to look like they were wearing makeup because it suited their characters. Two of my guys have painted facial hair. And I have one boy who wears fancy kabuki-style makeup all the time.

    14. Depends on the character you wanna give to your doll but I prefer natural face up
specially those with beauty marks are absolutely lovely^^

    15. definitely natural face ups, im not a fan of fantasy characters XD

    16. I like all of them, though I think that I prefer fancy face-ups on fantasy dolls. :kitty2

    17. I am on the same side as those who prefer natural face-ups for my own dolls but really appreciate seeing "fancy" face-ups on other peoples dolls~
      Natural and sweet make-up has always been my preference ~ on dolls and on myself ^-^;;

    18. I prefer natural face up, something that makes a doll look like she has carefully put on some make up but didn't overdo it. Fantasy make up is ok if one has a certain character in mind I guess, but bright red lips or too dramatic eyes are not for me! I like seeing other people's dolls with fancy make up though, some of them can be really creative! ^^

    19. I think that the face up really depends on the character I have in mind. I love seeing how different a sculpt can look depending on how the owner decides to do their face, I also really love it when natural characteristics are worked into a fantasy themed face up.
      :love

    20. I prefer the more natural faceup. To me it just looks better.
