natural face ups or fancy face ups?

Jan 2, 2013

    1. It depends on the dolls characters ^^ But in most, I love those smoky kind of makeups more than the naturals ~

    2. I prefer to have natural face ups, since none of my dolls have a specific character to them, it allows for more versatility

    3. I like more Natural face ups but I am ok with fancy ones too. It all depends in the mood I am in the moment I do the face up.

    4. It varies doll to doll, most of my girls have natural faces but my pongpong and a girl coming in soon are both going to be a bit OTT. Their characters call for it :)
In terms of doing them, I much prefer OTT because it's easier

    5. I love pretty much all kinds of faceups, especially elaborate fantasy faceups. But for my own dolls, I tend to do natural faceups because I change my mind really easily about makeup and stuff! I always feel like if I did a fantasy faceup I'd get bored of it really fast, or it won't go with an outfit/look I'm going for, whereas with a natural faceup, there's not as much of a chance of that, you know?

I really hope that my boyfriend tells me to go with a fantasy faceup for the new doll he picked up the other day, though. Since he bought her it's up to him... haha

    6. For me, it really depends on the sculpt. Very realistic sculpts (like Elfdoll or Iplehouse) usually look better to me with realistic faceups. More stylized, "doll-like" dolls seem to carry off fantasy faceups better. But there are tons of exceptions on both sides, and I think it really comes down to how well it's done, and how well it works for the character.
My own dolls have about half natural and half fantasy faceups.

I do think a natural faceup is easier to do well, so that's a good place to start if you're painting your own doll. :)

    7. I like the natural way :)

    8. It depends on the doll. I have two more or less realistic dolls that have natural face-ups that match their wigs colors, and that's all that they will have. I also have an anthro doll that will have a fantasy face-up. I like both for different reasons, and plan on having dolls with each type of face-up.

    9. Natural, no matter what! The less usage of blush, the better. :)

    10. For me it would all depend on what I want my doll's personality and characteristics to be. I tend to write things out on paper what I want certain characters to look like, and then I draw them out. For example if my character was a broken haunted doll I'd give her a 'shiny' look with marks to show where her face is cracking away. If she's just a normal school girl then a normal face-up would work best. It all depends on the character.

    11. If there was a certain theme that I wanted to continue, then I would get a fantasy faceup. But for other dolls, I would get natural faceups to fit the character in many outfits and settings.

    12. BOTH. There are some ideas I have for not-very-natural face ups. More artsy. But I want to do super realistic.. as one can get with odd proportions.

    13. I'm pretty partial to a more natural face-up as well, but I do love my boys with some black or dark shading around their eyes :love

    14. I'm for fantasy type face-ups, but my crew are mostly (and soon all will be) in an original story located in a fantasy world.

I love natural face-ups, just when I do them myself I use ALL the colours. :XD: I have two rainbow dolls, though one is an animal (Dollzone Big Dipper).

    15. On my own, I only like natural, or the appearance of regular makeup at most.

I don't care what anyone does with their dolls, but the every day human types will catch my eye a thousand times faster than the fantasy faceups or the ones with lots of extra stuff stuck on there. I know stickers, jewels, piercings, band-aids, scars, face paint and glitter are popular, but they don't do a thing for me. The most extra I want to see on a doll's face is freckles, moles, maybe one piercing or a tiny scar or birthmark. I don't really even care for heavy makeup, like goth or scene, on a doll most of the time.

    16. I'm going with the "it depends on the doll/character" crowd. Certain sculpts/characters look better with more realistic faceups, while others look better with more stylized faceups. I personally don't have a preference. Some of my dolls have realistic faceups, while others have more stylized ones.
I do, however, have a preference when it comes to artistic style, but that is something different altogether.

    17. I'm more for natural faceups just for the versatility ^^ although if a doll is modeled after a character, i see nothing wrong with fancier faceups!

    18. Natural for me. I got a fancy faceup for one of my dolls, all gold, with custom body blushing to match and it just... doesn't fit. I'm all about the natural look for my dolls.

    19. More natural too ! First because it's what I'm the most comfortable doing, and also because it's much more versatile.

    20. Having natural face up is better because you can pair up with clothes easily~ but with fancy ones, it is indeed beautiful but the outfit should have to be as fancy as well. I think it still depends on the person's taste, but for me, I'll take natural face up more but I'll also want to try a fancy face up someday~
