Never ever sold a doll?

May 22, 2010

    1. I've never sold a doll. Would I? Hmmm, not sure. There's an Orient Doll Tae in my collection that I admire but don't feel particularly warmly about. Must be the "somebody pee'd on my corn flakes" expression, though the awful hodge podge of Ken clothing obscuring his refined body sculpt doesn't help at all. He's the Napoleon of my msd's, shorter but eminently superior in nearly every way. I keep thinking if I can just style him flatteringly he'll become a jem in my collection.

In the end, I think I'm greedy, like Daffy Duck in Aladdin's treasure cave.

    2. I've only ever sold a faceplate but it came as a gift and I didn't need it for any of my dolls. I'd only sell gift heads or event heads. Not a doll I bought and gave a character to. I don't plan on ever selling my dolls...I'm sure I'd regret it.

    3. I honestly can't see myself ever selling a doll. I have a very strong emotional attachment to both of my boys, as they represent characters of mine. Selling them would seem...wrong. Very wrong. I just can't. I'll never need the money that badly, and even if I did, I would find other ways to earn it.

    4. I have only ever sold one doll and it was over 2 years ago. I have quite a few of them and I thought carefully about all of them before I bought them. The one that I did sell was pretty much my only impulse buy. I'm really attached to all of my dolls and I just can't see myself parting with any of them any time soon. I think the only way I would sell would be if I were leaving the hobby entirely or if I were in dire need of money (hope it never happens!).

    5. Who here has never sold a doll?

      I. Never sold a doll, and I didn't even think about that

      What are your reasons?

I'm fairly new to this hobby and I don't have many dolls (two boys plus one on his way ^_-). I also don't buy on impulse - each one of my dolls was carefully considerated (at least for three-four months). Aaand... I'm definitely sentimental. Each of my dolls is one of my characters and selling it would mean I wanted to get rid of the characters itself - at least for me.

      Would you ever consider it?

I may. If, for some reason I will buy a doll that I will find later repulsive. Or if I will be in very, very dire need for money. Otherwise, I highly doubt that.

    6. Who here has never sold a doll?
      I haven't sold a doll!

      What are your reasons?
Well, for one, I really like my current two dolls XP I know I'd probably regret selling them like how I regret giving my Sailor Moon and Cardcaptor merchandise away when I was little. I'm 18 and I still think about it constantly!! This is silly, but I'd feel as if the doll would forever curse me or something for selling it xP

      Would you ever consider it?
I used to think about selling my Bluefairy (terrible, I know!) because I realized that I really enjoy the bigger dolls more than the minis, but I've completely scraped that idea! I've got plans for my little guy to cosplay as Naoto from Persona 4 XP

    7. I've not yet sold a doll, after four years this summer of ABJD ownership. I really never got into the idea of bonding, but I like the dolls I have. Even when I buy a doll for a specific idea (character, concept, whatever), I try not to get overly attached to the idea until the doll is in hand, so there's not really ever been disappointment when I open the box. If the doll looks a little different than how I expected, whatever, their new look will develop on its own.

I guess the only reason I'd actually sell was if I fell on dire times financially (hoping that doesn't happen, since mine aren't worth much XD) I did consider selling my first doll last year because I just hadn't done anything with her in ages and I was sort of sick of seeing her bag sitting around my room... but I got her out and used her in a photography project, and decided I couldn't sell her. So, I guess if I completely lose interest in them in the future I'd sell, but I'd rather give my dolls to friends in that case.

    8. Before this year I ever sold some of my doll cause my money crisis.
After that in this year, I've never sold my doll any more and I promise to all of them that I would never sell them.

      :D

    9. Who here has never sold a doll?
After almost five years in this hobby, I have never sold any of my BJD nor have plans to do so either. The only I sold were event heads I got with some of my purchases, because I was not interested in them since the beginning, and a body of a BJD that I bought to get his heads for one of the characters and three (To get heads) extra bodies.

      What are your reasons?
I love what I own because every member of my crew is what I was chasing, besides the fact I am truly attached to each of them.

      Would you ever consider it?
Unless something terribly bad and really serious happened (I truly hope it never does), like needing desperately what they could cost, I would never consider it.

    10. I've never sold one and i don't plan to sell any doll i buy because it would have been considered and researched on for a very long time XD

    11. Who here has never sold a doll?
      I've never sold a doll!

      What are your reasons?
Well, atm I just have one doll. She's my Elfdoll Soah and I adore her. :3
I would would only buy a doll if I'm positive that I want it (and have the funds in hand to do so). I don't think that I'd impulse buy one and regret it later!

      Would you ever consider it?
I would only sell my Soah if I was in dire financial straights. :P

I suppose I might sell a doll in the future if I get another and for some reason am drastically surprised by how the doll looks in real life... but I don't think that will be a problem. I took forever choosing my first doll, looking at different pictures and comparing sculpts and companies. When I found Soah I knew that I loved her at first sight, but I still looked at a ton of pictures to be sure, checked out the company, etc. I'm sure I'll do the same with the next doll I want!

    12. Who here has never sold a doll?
      me.
      What are your reasons?
My reason for never selling a doll is that I never had to sell a doll. ^^
      Would you ever consider it?

If I had to, well, I think I might consider it. It would only be for financial reasons, though.

    13. I never thought I'd be one to sell one of my dolls either, but I did. I just felt that they would be better off in a new home, so I let them go. It's unfortunate that sometimes you just don't end up liking the doll as much as you thought you would and so it's better not to force it. They'd just end sitting in their box forever.

    14. I could never sell either.*_*

I got my first bjd and planning on a second!:D I am very attached to my bjd not because of the price but I have a extremely strong bond with them!:aheartbea They help me be more creative each day, and they are just such a rare and special joy to have!:)

    15. I've never sold a doll and although I've only been an owner for 6ms (long-time admirer) I don't think I ever will - I think they kind of show their own personalities plus there's a certain versitility about them - if their style isn't working any more then it gives me a challenge to figure out something new for them .... plus I'd always worry I'd change my mind after its too late lol

    16. I have never sold a doll after 5 years in the hobby.

      What are your reasons?
I'm not an impulse buyer, when I fall in love with a sculpt I take my time before buying it. The doll might spend over a year in it's box before I really start bonding with it and get around to making clothes and accessories. That's what happened to my Volks SDC Swd Kaede, it took me all that time to realize how gorgeous she really was. I can afford to keep them so as long as I have the room for them I can't bring myself to sell any.

      Would you ever consider it?
I think about it sometimes, but only about one or two of them. I sometimes feel guity about not displaying them because of lack of a secure space. I only have a few out in my sewing room away from my curious felines. If I needed some money badly I would consider selling some, but I sure hope it doesn't come to that.
I kind of envy people who keep buying a sculpt enjoying it and then quickly putting it up for sale I just can't bring myself to do it.
I also sometimes think I should sell some to have a more cohesive collection...........

    17. Who here has never sold a doll?
I've never sold a doll. Wheewww

      What are your reasons?
Well, I've never had one I've wanted to get rid of!:) I always make sure I /seriously/ want one before I get it..

      Would you ever consider it?
Definitely, if I needed the money or wasn't bonding with one.

    18. Who here has never sold a doll?
I have never sold a BJD but I have sold plenty of other dolls.

      What are your reasons?
I just love them too much!

      Would you ever consider it?
There are a couple I would sell if I really needed money.

    19. I have sold many dolls since I have been in this hobby. I have sold many items of other hobbies as well. I am not one to keep junk but I try to make sure it doesnt end up in a land fill. I make sure to recycle everything possible.
But if it wasnt for people selling their dolls I would not have my Suiseiseki, Liz, F-01, F-03, Alice,AiL Alice, School C, Goldie, Chika, Aya and I am sure I am forgetting someone. I love all my girls and I do not think I would sell anyone them but never say never. Unforeseen things can happen, and your life can change. I cannot thank those people who sold me their girls because I adore them so much.

    20. I only Have One Doll Currently, But I Don't Think I Will Ever Sell Him. I'm Kind of Attached. I Have Considered Selling Him Several Times But Never Had The Courage To Actually Do It. So I Think He Will Be With Me For A Long While.
