1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

New Chinese Piracy

Mar 10, 2009

    1. This is why I specified using a micrometer.

      http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Micrometer

Micrometers are used for extremely precise measurements.

    2. If we hacked them they'd probably just move to another forum under another name, and it would take us very long to find them again, if we ever did. I don't think hacking or trying to get their forum shut down is a very good idea.

    3. I think their server was down when I was trying to look (with firefox). Its working now.

    4. Not all of my dolls have CoA either! Some I got as heads, so that wouldn't work. Some are second hand.

    5. wow, i find this thread today and then one of the people I watch on deviantart, yuumei, finds one of her artworks has been turned into a wallscroll and is being sold on ebay from a seller in Hong Kong . . . people have such nerve, they had to remove her signature and watermark that expressly states no use without permission (although you can still see the top of it)

I'm an artist too, so art theft of any kind makes me angry and scared, as a result I've been adding watermarks to all my images that I upload to internet, even tho putting a watermark in middle of image is annoying (i don't want anyone to be able to just chop off the bottom like they did to her) and that nothing is full-proof.

I hope the companies can come up with some kind of serial number or other system to help protect themselves from these thieves . . .

    6. If I had a micrometer or knew someone with one I'd definitely do this, but sadly, I have no way of obtaining one. I guess I just have to be thankful that the limiteds I have are not rabidly sought after ones.

    7. You'd be amazed, a lot of people stick with a domain and host even if DDoS attacks get ridiculously bad... :horror:

On the Lusis comparison shots - is it just me, or were the hands of the fake lacking that sharp detail in the fingers? I don't know if it was my eyes fooling me or what, but they seemed a little bit off.

However, as a whole... I wouldn't know which is the real one if I didn't know what Unoa resin looked like. :( It's terrible that some people find it alright to reproduce another person's hard work to turn a profit.

    8. Do you really think this would work though? I mean there are always size discrepancies with dolls cast from the same mould... and unless everyone was taking the measurement from EXACTLY the same place on the doll its not a sure fire way of checking they are the same... and I for one have 4 dressmaking tape-measures that have up to 2mm discrepancy between the sizes. If we're relying on someone using a ruler to find the exact spot to take the measurement then there will never be the same measurement twice.... *_*

I think if we just watch them like a hawk at least we will know which dolls are being bootlegged and to be especially wary if buying them second hand weeks even months down the track.... And using something like paypal - you can declare it a fake and get your money back. There is no possible way a copier can "prove" its real if it is isn't... just my two cents

    9. The seller can always lie about statistics.....

    10. I agree with much of what has been said. And also, I do feel that when they do start making the knock offs, there will be a way to tell they are fake. They aren't actually going through the real process, and are short cutting so they will not be as detailed.

    11. This is really sad to hear, I do hope this is just some people joking around (if it is, it's a pretty sick joke). It makes me happy to know that I took the time to do my research and bought my doll from a legitimate company!

I gotta say, for being pretty ballsy for admiting it, they're not very smart are they?

    12. If the unoa dolls have faulty headcaps on the inside, wouldn't all of the other copies have that, as well? You could always include images of the inside of the headcap or faceplate when you're selling a doll.

    13. I feel more and more disgusted and angry, and even dubious of its genuineness. Any people with even a little sense of shame would not do so like them. :barf They even tell people to vote which dolls to recast, to steal. It is absolutely shameless. it is almost unbelievable. I feel sorry I can read Chinese. It stains my eyes. They make the Chinese doll makers and collectors lose face. I hope it is just a joke, a method to make their companies and dolls more well-known, bad method anyhow. Will there be so silly thief that sells stolen goods on the open market? But who knows, anything can happen in this wild world.

    14. It's really a shame. >_<' Unfortunately there will be piracy as long as there are unscrupulous people who don't mind buying fakes and people who are uninformed

I'm not as familiar with mainland China, but in Hong Kong at least, they seem to be trying to get stricter about pirated goods. All the pirated anime shops I saw years ago seemed to have disappeared. Though trying to crack down on DVDs isn't the same as worrying about dollies... :sweat I'm pretty sure movie companies are a lot louder than little doll companies.

Though the trouble with BJDs is that they aren't bought in person very often (I wouldn't mind if this incited more dollie shops to buy in person, heh.). Even if the fakes did look different, the seller could always gyp someone else's owner photos. No one in the whole world can possibly see every single doll photo ever posted. Same with copy-pasting measurements. And fake certificates of authenticity are probably doable.

And serial numbers, I'm not sure if that works. A pirate could always make up random numbers to put onto their dolls. And even if they repeatedly put the same number on the dolls out of laziness, if one collector in China buys a fake and one collector in the US buys a fake, what is the likelihood they'd bump into each other and notice their dolls have the same serial number? Heck, even two people in the same country might not ever bump into each other. Not like we'd go "Yo! I got a DZ Megi #68756544533454567! What's yours?" (or maybe we would?) Even with things like limited 50 with all dolls numbered 1 to 50, what's the likelihood all 50 of those owners would know who all the other 49 are? (though in the case of limiteds, it would probably be shady if the pirate was selling it for super cheap or something. And also shady if they are selling copies of dolls that were one-offs.)

Man, my paranoid brain... *_* And to think buying secondhand already scares me...

    15. It can, sort of. When we were recasting my artist doll's head (with the original artist's full knowledge and in any event the original was polymer clay), the headcap had the artist's signature, she scratched it in with a Xacto. The recasting process caught MOST of the signature, but not all of it properly transferred into the resin cast. With something like, say, a Bambicrony (as they have taken to stamping the doll's mold name in, at least on the Elf Shy and Elf Kiera), while the recast would surely get the full name, comparing it with a true one would almost certainly show discrepancies. I think that would definitely be one way of deterring fakes.

    16. That is kind've outrageous of them. The worst part is a newbie to abjd would probably get sucked into it thinking they are getting the real deal or as close to it as possible. Plus these are rare and limited for a reason! The nerve of some people sometimes!

    17. As a Chinese bjd-lover, I feel so shame, sad and also angry about what the 萌人形bjd Organization is doing. The pirate action they've taken and the discredit they've brought on the whole Chinese bjd-lovers' group are obviously unforgivable!
I believe those who really love bjds will not buy their knock-offs since in our bjd-lovers' community we are alway protesting against purchasing pirate dolls. And for those who are well-informed and uniformed, we would try harder to give them access to the list of pirate companies & organizations, preventing them from being deceived.

BUT sadly there are also some people who prefer to buy cheaper things, ignoring the quality, the copyright, and the devotion that makers have put into making the dolls.TO those, I just want to say , you're undoubtedly not a bjd lover and I abominate ur behavior!

    18. As a Chinese, I feel so sad and shame....

    19. I guess it was bound to happen~ As numerous people have mentioned, just look at all the "cheaper" products around you done by China... But its sad how many people in the BJD community will have some sort of negativity towards a Chinese company due to this incident, a bit pressumptious to assume that everything from China will be bad?
(My poor AS T_T) (Also including the numerous replies of "ill never buy second hand or from this "company" again)

On topic though: The actions taken by those people as well as the public poll is quite appauling and disrespectful ~ "knowing" they can get away with it and are able to obtain a market for these copy-cats.....

Throughout the numerous solutions posted, best one ive found is just to keep the community constantly informed~ Pictures that were posted here helped, so constant supervision or "espionage" on the company as well as catching fakes and comparisons is probably the best solution...

    20. I can't sat anything. As a chinese.I feel sad and shame.
