1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

New Chinese Piracy

Mar 10, 2009

    1. I would not know the Lusis was a copy. That's scary.

From now on, I will not rely on the value of any of my dolls. Once these start entering the market, no dolls will be worth much anymore.

    2. As a Chinese, I feel so sad and shame....:(

    3. They have a list of "what is BJD" and popular BJD companies. I'm not sure if that's the same as their list of intended targets, but if that's the case -several doll companies in China have made their list, too: AOD, DZ, B&G. I wonder if someone could bring to their attention what these people on the Moe Doll board is trying to do. If it comes from other companies within the borders of their own country, the "legit" companies could possibly get their authorities to shut Moe Doll down.

Maybe doll companies should start tagging their dolls with serial numbers into those metal plates on the backs of their head caps.

I agree with Kiyakotari that these things could easily end up on the "my dolls need to be re-homed" market.

      BAAAAAH. I hate seeing news like this. >__<;;;

    4. There's nothing to say the resin will even be lower quality than the originals. Even if they used the same resin from the same supplier, the lower labor costs allow them to sell dolls cheaper, and they have no R&D overhead to deal with. If they can match colors well, it may be incredibly difficult to tell these from the originals even in person.

I find it very insulting the way they are handling this, like it's a joke, and that they're doing the world a favor by providing this.

    5. yet another reason to only buy directly from the website or from a known dealer. Though it DOES make it harder for people who want to sell on the second hand market. :<

    6. I agree that this is questionable in regards to the fact that there are so many nice Chinese doll companies. I have an Angel of Dream doll. It makes me wonder how AOD can address something like this in court, legally. I assume AOD has artists and painters working for them. What would this piracy do to them?

    7. They can't as a Chinese company, copyright laws here are a joke at best the ones that exist at all. From books, to CDs, to movies and clothes so many things here that are part of everyday life are copies. Baidu, China's main search engine will provide you with any song you want to listen to from any artist popular in the mainland, and the Chinese equivalents of youtube host entire shows and movies. These 3 companies are some of the largest in and well known in China and they have no problems legally providing these services. A doll company challenging this is like I said a complete joke.

It surprises me if they are intending to copy DZ or AOD, because their Chinese prices are already about 30-40% lower here than if you buy them in the west. I imagine the resin quality will be atrocious if they plan to offer them even lower than the dealers price here :?.

    8. horrible。。。。。。。。。。

It makes me feel bitterly disappointed...........

    9. This is sad and really frightening if, like me, you want to purchase some of the Soom MD's second hand cuz you missed out on them =( this is going to make me super paranoid about buying second hand >.<

    10. If these dolls actually make it outside of China, trying to sell my dolls on the market for their actual price is going to be near impossible!!

This makes me very sad... Are my dolls worth nothing at all now? What is this going to do to the market? :(

    11. What really angers me is that the site said something about popularising the 'low-price BJD'. I don't want cheap, knock-off dolls and I won't thank any company who tries to provide them for me.

However, let's face it, if they want to wait until August to get their Glot and Glati and start copying...and in the process destroy both the dolls and the special parts, they've screwed themselves over twice, first because they had to wait as long as the rest of us to get their hands on the dolls and second because they've ruined their only models. Re-casting dolls is an uncertain business and the parts will never fit together properly for a re-cast doll. Even a replica costume won't be exact, you'll be able to tell a replica outfit from a genuine one because the materials and embellishments will be different. Even the eyes and wigs will be different. Just beware of someone selling blank Glot/Glati and get them to take close-up pictures of all major joints and the hoof parts before committing to buy. We just have to keep our eyes peeled!

    12. Oops! Double post!

    13. That is really awful, especially since they are limited in a sense since there is cut off for ordering. I really love those dolls as well. This is one of the main reasons why people are afraid of ebay or second hand doll markets which is a shame for everyone running a legitimate store/shop/resell site or just selling part of their collection.

    14. wow, you can't even tell. might make people think twice before spending $1500+ on a md doll resale ...

    15. Wow, those are some clanging brass balls.

They clearly don't care that Black Luke & Ducan are well-recognized one-offs... going to make em anyway... Even through that Babelfish translation mess, you still get the true sense of Up Yours from those people.

    16. I believe a lot of the companies (including the legit Chinese BJD companies) start to do things such as etching serial number inside or authenticity cards (birth cards) for identifying a doll. Most copycats would either not bother to any of those things to save cost. It's probably harder to trust eBay (especially sellers selling out of China!), but within DOA I think we can trust one another.

    17. This is really upsetting to know that people would go this far to profit in a capitalistic world. I do agree with others though. It's probably alright to trust one another within DoA, complete trust within the original websites themselves, and be cautious about eBay or any other sites. But I'm disappointed in the fact that it make the Chinese look very bad! Mimiwoo, my favorite doll accessory/clothing seller, is from China. :c

    18. This... is quite sad and disgusting. Don't they understand doll companies put their blood sweat and tears into the doll-making proscess? These people... certainly have GUTS to be so freaking open! I pity the hardworking Chinese people out there... sheesh...

    19. i had a look at their site and found this:

    20. I get an error when I try to view the taobao links. Does anyone have screencaps of those copied dolls?
