Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. New or Second Hand For your First Doll

Oct 18, 2010

    1. With my first girl I was lucky enough to find a doll on eBay that came out of a dealers overstock so I got a new doll for secondhand price. I dunno if that happens "alot" but I was thrilled to have her at the price I paid!! I'm more than happy to have secondhand dolls, but I'm also looking forward to getting my first "straight-from-the-factory" doll. :) They just seems a bit special to me.

    2. I was originally going to get my first doll second hand (because she's a limited and I have no other way of getting her) but when I found her for a good price my mom wouldn't let me get her and then the seller decided to keep her
my first doll ended up being new from the company though

    3. My first doll is on layaway with DollShe right now, I live in the middle of nowhere so buying from a company is far easier and more convenient for me. Then many marketplace sellers also won't ship this far out. Plus it feels good to put money into a deserving company.

    4. Actually, my first doll is kinda funny. I wanted the cheapest possible option, so i was going to go with a Bobobie tiny because it would only cost maybe 70 bucks total. Then i did a google search just to see if anyone was maybe selling one for cheaper secondhand and, well, I fell in love with the doll in the very first result. At first, i tried to rationalize myself out of it (She's too big, too expensive) but I found myself coming back to the sales post day after day until i saw somebody ask if she was still available. I immediately bought her up because I realized that, well, I wanted her!

And so today I'm typing up this lovely story up for you guys with my sweet Resinsoul Li (whose name I can't seem to settle on) who I came to realize was the most lovely, perfectly priced doll for me. I frikkin' adore her!

    5. My first doll was in stock at Think Pink, so that's where I got him. Many of my dolls are from their stock.

    6. Firsthand. It's not like I have something against second-hand dolls. To be honest, I don't think second-hands are that much cheaper than the first-hand. They are overpriced in my opinion unless it was limited edition. But the most important of all is to find a doll that you'll like and love.

    7. I went new with my first doll since I wanted the fullset and everything.

    8. I bought a first hand new doll for my first. I think it was a better way of getting into the hobby since you're the first owner and nobody else had it before you. I just has a nice feeling of ownership.
Although I do believe if you have no clue what you're doing you should get a second hand because it's going to be cheaper in most cases and you wont feel as bad since if you ruin it or do something wrong you know it didn't cost as much. Its good for experience.

    9. my first doll will be a second hand and I prefer second hand because sometime you can have more for the same price or less.

    10. You know, the price of secondhand dolls depends on the seller, really. Both of my dolls are basic dolls that i could've ordered from the company, but I got them for much cheaper. My girl came with a couple outfits, a wig, eyes, and even a set of hands and was still only 115 dollars (Normally $145 from RS, I think) and my AoD Chi only cost 90 dollars. I got his body from a friend for really cheap because it was damaged and then I just ordered the head from Ebay. So I really don't think they're overpriced at all.

    11. My third doll I'm getting secondhand and using layaway to pay her off. I don't mind second hand dolls but you do have to always be cautious and make sure the seller has a very thorough description of said doll. Other than that I see nothing wrong with buying new or used.

    12. I'm planning on buying one new, but if destiny throws a secondhand one in my path which I love I would go for it.

    13. I bought both my dolls new from the Junky Spot.

    14. I happened to acquire my first doll direct from Volks, although it certainly doesn't have to be done that way. I did simply because that was the doll I fell in love with and it was during her lottery period. That's probably the real answer - look for someone who catches your eye, without regard to new or used.

    15. For my first doll I always gotten them directly from the company just because I wanted the experience out of it. Now all my dolls after that will be second hand just because I am extremely impatient and I hate waiting on things lol

    16. I bought my first doll straight from the company. I wanted to experience the "new doll" smell, if you know what I mean lol. I wanted to experience ordering from the company so that way I have something to go off of when I order second hand. (Also, at the time when I ordered my boy, Borys had been released a month or so before and they were only just arriving to their owners.) Now, I mostly buy second hand, but I do still like ordering straight from the company too.

    17. My first doll was in-stock from the Junky Spot. The week long wait was agonizing, so when I bought my first resin, I bought her second hand. The week long wait was agonizing! I very badly want to buy straight from the company, but I think I'll be sticking to second hand dolls for now.

    18. I'm probably going to buy secondhand most of the time~
I like the idea of adopting a girl (or boy!), and giving them a new home.
I like knowing they have a past. :3
Of course, the obvious pros about less wait time and all that stuff, but I'm more drawn towards the adoption (:

    19. I got the body new and the face secondhand so... I did both, sort of :)

    20. My first doll was bought factory fresh lol. It really doesn't matter if your first doll is new or pre-loved...it's still your first doll.
