1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

New or Second Hand For your First Doll

Oct 18, 2010

    1. I bought Morgan new, because I didn't realize I could buy dolls second hand. Now, he's still the only one that I bought new.

    2. I bought my first doll through ebay, she was second hand. I worked my butt of doing yard work and what not for a week to get my parents to get her for me. Haha! That was years ago, but I am still happy about my decision to buy second hand. Currently I have one other second hand and two new.

    3. My first BJD was new. (In fact all my BJDs were new)
The long waiting time haven't bother me for my first BJD, my thought was: If there is any problem, I would probably have more chance to get a new part or whatever direct from the company..

    4. My first doll was a second hand ... because she was pretty new and I didn't want to wait 2 month to get her ...
But my second doll is new ^.^

    5. A third option is getting a doll through an American distributer. Denver Doll Emporium has Puki Pukis at company price without the international shipping! My first is going to be from Soom, and distrubuters don't carry them. She's going to be a tan Uyoo and the only second hand one I've seen was damaged. I really like one of their Fairy Legend dolls, so I would have to find him second hand in order to get him. Labas is such a handsome boy...

    6. My first 2 dolls were bought new. I didn't have access to the Marketplace here and I don't use eBay since it's a curse upon this Earth. I also didn't want to deal with any potential stresses that can come with buying second-hand. I trust the companies to do it right or make it right, for the most part (depending on the company).

    7. I like second hand. My first doll was second hand, came with a lovely faceup, and full detailed body blushing. My second doll was second had, and a discontinued sculpt that came with eyes and a full outfit for a lesser price than what the company had sold him for.

    8. I'd but second hand if I found a doll that spoke to me! BJD owners tend to love their dolls and take care of them really well so I wouldn't be bothered in the least

    9. I have a mix, but my first was bought new. My second was a head second hand, and the next few after him was new.

    10. I didn't see the post about Junkyspot or Denver Doll having what you wanted in stock before, but that would be awsome.

    11. I think it depends on if it is an expensive doll or not, if it a good price than go ahead and get it from a company, but if it is super expensive (and you can get a good quality second hand doll) then I would get it second hand.

    12. My first doll was new, unless buying from a distributor like Junkyspot is considered second-hand. I was not able to buy him anything except eyes haha.

In my opinion, new is better to me. I am just that kind of person. However, I wouldn't mind buying second-hand from an owner as long as the doll is in great shape, give or take a few scratches/staining/ etc.

    13. I got my first two dolls new my third second hand....And his owner was so sweet she sent all sorts of clothes and stuff for him because she knew I didn't have anything at all for the poor guy. He's now my cuddle bug Kaname. (I always pick him up when I need a hug.) I've only had good experiences buying second hand. I want my first resin to be second hand to be quite honest...I feel it'd be less of the whole "Oh my god resin doll CAREFUL!" fear. Of course I'd still take care of her like I would my other dolls but considering the one I'm eying has some chipping and yellowing I'm really not too worried.

    14. My first doll was secondhand, because it was cheaper then the new ones, and because I really liked the face up he already had. :3
Actually, 6 out of my soon 9 dolls are secondhand, but I think it's mostly up to the person, is he/she wants a new or secondhand.
I like to get a beautiful doll that's almost like new, just up to $100 (sometimes even more!) cheaper than the original price. :3
The only bad thing about secondhand dolls can be that you have to restring them or that that thay have a little yellowing. And sometimes they can need some new face up, but for me those things are okay, because my girlfriend is good at makin face ups, so I don't mind having to change the face up.. I'm just scared of restringing my dolls.. xD

    15. To me, it doesn't matter if it is first or second hand. I wanted to get a second hand for my first doll as the mould that I like is out of stock but I couldn't find anyone selling. So in the end I bought my first doll from a different company. I think most importantly is how much you love the doll. :)

    16. I'm looking to mix the two and hybrid LOL. I want a new head, but secondhand body, if it can be helped. That's mostly cuz the head I want is unusual/new to the market, hmm. :P haha

    17. My first doll is new and it looks like my second doll will be new as well. Considering I am a secondhand rose I find this quite amazing ! I am sure many more will be secondhand as I would love my doll to have a story of it previous life.:)

    18. The problem for me to get a 2nd hand doll is that I can't find the doll with my specifications.
I want an Iplehouse with, Large chest, Special Real Skin, this face up-- it's too detailed ; - ; and I wish I could settle but she's my grail doll!

    19. All 5 of my dolls are second hand. I couldn't afford new, and I found some fantastic deals. So I would highly recommend second hand. I've never had a problem with dishonest sellers.

    20. I very much like to get my first doll new. But if the price is right I would most likely buy her second hand. The argument I have right now is whether or not I can customise him/her myself. I like that idea. I heard it was cheaper to get them disassembled, unblushed, and plain colored, the plainer the better (cheaper!).

It would also be nice to know WHERE I can buy some second hand.

Is there a online resource? Can anyone help?
