1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

New or Second Hand For your First Doll

Oct 18, 2010

    1. For me personally, my first is new, and I'd recommend that to others. It's more expensive but then you can build all your memories with the doll from scratch. <3 But both ways are just as good!

    2. To be honest....All three of my MSD's are second hand. None of them are new and I like that about them, they have character to them, I LOVE my AngelRegion/DZ hybrid girl especially, she is just so much fun to photograph and make things for..And she's cuddly. And Avalon's my baby....I love them and they were exactly what I wanted...They fell into my hands at the right moment and I have no intention of letting them go. I have dolls that I got new as well like my tan RS Bei on their Zi body (custom order! =w= ) and I am totally happy with her, I love my little gal. It depends on the person I think.

    3. I bought my first doll brand new and I love him so much but I think if I bought a second hand doll, I would love them just as much as a new doll.

    4. I bought my first doll new - I wasn't a member of DoA at the time, so the MP wasn't an option. I think it was nice to have the experience of opening a new doll all of my own
It's hard to explain, but buying directly from a company is just a different experience. Not that buying secondhand is bad, it's just as good if not better in certain cases, but if it's your first doll, I think you bought from a company.

    5. Secondhand, never bought from a company ever :3
Too afraid of custom fees and breakage and mistakes and everything...

    6. I bought my first as a new and just ordered the second one and that it also new. But if I would found the right one secondhand I would have bought it.

    7. Its much more fun to buy a new one. but its not like they have what you want in sale

    8. I just purchased my first doll, I chose new. I do not have experience with MP. I think it doesn't matter where you buy the doll, as long as you are happy with it. :)

    9. I purchase most my dolls second hand, so my first resin will probably be second hand. I'm not ruling out buying new, I need to plan better for the special events.

    10. My first doll is new and there was very little chance I would've bought her second hand. One thing that worries me about bjds compared to other dolls I've collected is that they yellow, so the newer the doll is when you get it the more time before that happens.

Also, the doll I wanted wasn't limited and won't take long to arrive so paying $50 or so less to get her from the market place wasn't enough of a saving for me. I understand that people don't want to lose money when they sell a doll on but if the doll is still available new they should expect to get much less for it used, surely? Especially with all the risks associated with sending a large sum of money to a stranger on the internet!

    11. I don't mind secondhand dolls if they are in a good condition. Never been fussy about this kind of things. I wear hand me down clothes happily. :sweat

    12. My first doll was second hand.

    13. Mine was new. Without any feedback and minimal access to information, I didn't want to be scammed or have people think I was a bad buyer. Plus, I wanted to experience that "new resin" type box opening, like the ones on YouTube, for my first doll.

    14. My first was a secondhand doll. I bought him cheaper and with having no experience with bjd's it helped me feel safer about them (like I wouldn't break them) and got me to the point where I bought brand new and more expensive ones. He is kind of my learning doll. I will practice my first re-stringing on him soon.

    15. I bought my first doll directly from the company, so yeah, she was new. xD
It's because not only was it my first bjd purchase, but it was also my first time to spend a hefty amount of money as well online. That, and the company (Luts), that I've ordered from also accepts direct credit card purchases, and as I didn't have paypal at the time [I have one now, but still, I'm a bit anxious to use it @u@], it was more or less my only choice. It was a good thing that they also had the doll that I wanted so everything ended up well for my first doll purchase.
      I guess that if given the chance, and if a doll I had wanted before was available second hand, I probably would have chosen to buy new still, regardless the wait and all that. Anyway, I'm also planning on buying my second doll directly from the company. I think it's because I'm more or less comfortable with purchasing directly than second hand. At least at the moment! I'm sure things will more or less change once I've gotten the hang of using paypal. ;;

    16. I got my first doll on a company because I kinda liked the idea that the doll will be made for me, you know, you order her and they made it after your order, like it was made only for you. Though I think I could have buy a second hand doll too as my first.

But at this time, there wasn't all these recasts suspicions and you didn't have to be so much careful excepting that to be sure that the doll was in good condtion. Now you have to also check it's a legit doll also and be more cautious when buying on sites like ebay or such. So for now, if a newbie is going to buy his first doll quickly after discovering the hobby, I think it would be more cautious to get it on a company website instead of buying it on second hand market to avoid any risks and have the time to learn more about the BJD world meanwhile.

    17. My first bjd is both new and international - hope it gets here all right!

My grail doll(s) I would have to get secondhand since they were limited runs.

    18. I don't think I would ever buy a second hand doll and the first doll I got was straight from the company at a convention. I think in general, I don't really like buying second hand things ^^; Especially with dolls though, I feel like they're special and I wouldn't want them to be touched by anyone else ><

    19. I did second hand for my first doll, I would probably do second hand or get someone experienced to help walk me through ordering direct. It can be pretty confusing.

    20. I bought my first BJD new and directly from the company. :dance
