1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

New or Second Hand For your First Doll

Oct 18, 2010

    1. It depends on the person and on the company and doll sculpt. Some people like brand new things and others don't mind buying second hand. Plus not all companies are going to make you wait a month or more to get the doll. I just received my first boy from Bluefairy and I only waited about 6 days for him.

Like how many have suggested though, make sure to read feedback on the person you're buying from if it IS second hand. If it's first hand then look around and find the company review. Research is your best friend in nearly any hobby, this one included.

    2. My first (and only, for now) doll is new. I can see myself getting the next one used, but I always wanted a new first one... and I love it. (Thank you nohbahdee! <3)

    3. Definitely second hand! I didn't know I was going to get my first girl (and forever love) when I did :)
I was at a convention and one of the artists was selling her BBB Mei, and I jumped on it :D! Best purchase I've ever made!!!

    4. My first was brand new, I never really want to own a second hand, for sometimes they are really in a bad shape already, and also my cousin also had an experience in buying a second hand DZ doll and when it came, one of her fingers were broken and the seller didn't replied to her emails regarding the doll.

    5. My first doll was new, but over the years I have had sooooooo much second hand dolls. To me it's about the state the doll is in. If a secondhand doll has all the original packaging and such, it can be just as magical as a brand new doll.

    6. I bought a new one first, but she hasn't come home yet - and I bought a second-hand brother for her while waiting, he's already here! I still call Deena my first one, because she was the one I bought first after wanting her for years.

    7. My first 3 were all second hand all bought last year
My second 3 are all new.. Two Tinies purchased from AOD and an MSD purchasing from MOC (island doll)

    8. The doll that I am currently paying for is a new doll. I never even thought of buying a second hand one but I'll consider it in the future.

    9. I bought my first doll new..just want it to be new as I am the newbied for this area..Like a new strat or something.. After the first doll, I will depend on which doll I want then decide whether to buy a new one or second hand..

    10. I started with them brand new but sometimes I fall in love with some customs from other people I can't let go :P In my experience 2nd hand dolls will come even better, with better hair and etc. So I don't really mind

    11. So far all the dolls I've bought were new but I wouldn't mind buying an older doll from someone if I liked it. There are many dolls with beautiful face up done by their owners that I really like...

    12. My first two dolls were bought new from their respective companies, though my latest two were both secondhand. To me it doesn't really matter if it's new or secondhand so long as the doll is in good condition.

    13. My first doll (and every last one since then) have all been from a company or dealer. Mainly because I couldn't buy off the MP/didn't see what I wanted on ebay.

    14. My first some dolls are new. I think the new doll is better, it's only my. But if I will like any second hand doll, I'll buy it with no doubt.

    15. i wouldnt mind to find the doll i want second hand, aktually i am looking for that.
Most people handle beautiful (and expensive) thing with care,
so im not really worried, about it being second hand.
(but at the moment i cant find him second hand, so ill buy him new i guess)

    16. I bought my first doll new, but it was from Denver doll and it was overall a great experience. Now I'm on my second doll which I'm buying second hand on here. I'm a little afraid to buy directly from the companies, just because I heard about the long waiting time. I want to avoid that. I don't have my second doll yet, I put her on layaway so that's a great thing if the seller offers it and so far things are awesome. The seller is a wonderful person to deal with and I think that's important when purchasing anything. All my doll purchasing will be through here and If I can't find the one I want I might try the companies out.

    17. My first was a brand new doll, I never doubted her and I love her to death >w<

    18. For me I went new, but that was because I was not a member of DOA back then and it was the only place I was willing to trust to order second hand from.

    19. My first doll is secondhand, because I couldnt wait at all))) I saw Her in Internet, in another town, we went with my husband by car and bought it.

    20. I think it's up to personal preference. My first doll was secondhand, since she's limited. I wouldn't hesitate to buy secondhand around here though, I actually prefer it. It can save on shipping costs, there's no wait time and I trust the sellers on DoA.
