Noses!

Sep 10, 2011

    1. Noses are maybe one of the most decisive features in a bjd for me. I love big, graceful and well shaped noses - specially manly ones. That's why Unidoll Jace allured me - he has a breathtaking nose! Same with my Husky. Gosh how I love his face.
I also like delicate noses in younger boys and females.

    2. I like little button noses on people and dolls.
I think that stems from myself having a more prominent nose (with a little bump on the bridge) and I've never liked that feature on myself so I look for tiny noses on other people/dolls.

I really think it's interesting to hear all the different features people like and the reason behind it! :)

    3. I bought my RS Gang for nothing more than his side profile XD That nose is so amazing! It just makes his whole face suit angsty, irritable characters.

    4. I love the stereotypical noses they have. I especially love the little button noses on the BambiCrony dolls that I see. But I also don't like the realistic looking dolls as much.

    5. That's ... honestly a good question. I don't usually think too much about the nose when looking at sculpts and I'm horrible at describing them but, after looking through my wishlist I apparently don't have a favourite type of nose. They all look different to me. Though I will admit that I seem to prefer the more stereotypical noses, but I like some more strong looking noses too.

    6. I honestly don't pay much attention to their noses at all.

    7. Noses for me are a very crucial part of the sculpt; they're usually the detail that will make or break a doll for me and if I dislike a nose I honestly have a hard time liking a face! >_< I suppose I'm stupidly nitpicky, but yes.

To this day my favorite doll nose has to be Crobidoll Yujin's.

    8. I really like noses that give a soft and rounded impression (as opposed to pointy ones), and the look that they give in side profile is really important... ;; Some dolls who have noses that look wonderful from the front seem to have side profiles that aren't nearly as attractive IMO.

      TBH I think that the reason why a lot of the noses are relatively similar in shape is that, while the eye shape and mouth shape gives off a lot of personality, the proportions/size of the nose contribute a lot to how attractive the face is in general. ;;

    9. I find dolls' noses to be quite different actually. One thing I MUST look at when I judge a doll is their noses. I really don't like those noses that have to much of an arc and are very pointy or skinny. I think it looks way too fake. I like the more realistic looking ones.

    10. i'm so glad i'm not alone with the whole nose thing. There are very few male dolls I like... but the ones that I do like have very distinct noses... IH Dexter and Roger.... Granado Charles (SQUEE) and souldoll lester.

I just makes them... more fun for me. I have a thing for noses anyways.

    11. I like really sharp anime-like noses . For me the noses would be the most important feature of the sculpt . You can say that i have a nose fetish !

    12. The main selling point for my first doll was his nose. He's a Bobobie Apollo and I just love it's shape and size! I wouldn't call it a 'perfect' nose because its so big, but it looks really good, and he uses it well.

    13. I never really think about noses, but my doll has an adorable little nose.

    14. My favourite doll noses as far as I can think of right now are:

      Dollshe Rosen
      Soom Chrom
      Iplehouse Arvid
      Dollclans Vezeto

They must be interesting, whether that be shape, distortion or length...they must have some substance to them!^^

    15. My grail doll was once a Luts Senior Delf Jude, and I fell in love with him because he has a big nose like Pete Townshend does. My tastes have changed, and I no longer am dying to have Jude...but I still like him!

    16. I don't like pointy noses, in fact, I sanded my doll's nose :)

    17. as someone with a pretty prominent nose myself, I always pay attention to ones on dolls haha. One of the reasons I bought my kdf lemon was because she seemed to have a larger nose than a lot of her fellow kdf sculpts!

    18. Maybe it's just ME, but are any of you into PIG-like noses? I find their snouts so adorable and I'm always looking for one to put on my dolls. I tried making them out of playdough before but it only stained my doll nose pink :(.

    19. I'm veeery picky with my noses. I do not like long or wide noses. I like them short and cute. Big noses are definitely a turn off for me.

    20. Me, I personally don't necessarily have a preference for shape* as much as I do for the size and its location on the face. Like, the nose needs to compliment the other facial features. If it's too big/too long/too wide it just overwhelms the rest of the face, but conversely if its too short or too narrow it would look really out of place and unnatural/victim of a plastic surgery gone unfortunately wrong. A beaked or a prominent nose works really well with similarly prominent/sharp/defined features, and a cute little button nose looks great on a round, soft baby face. The nose needs to also work with the rest of the stylization of the face.

I also really don't like under-defined noses. For example, Soom is sometimes guilty of this - the noses on a few of their bigger dolls appear kind of shapeless. Like, it looks like there's no consideration for the skeletal structure under them - they're just a triangular prism with some holes poked into one end and then slapped onto a face. I probably also dislike really anime noses for the same reason - they look great in 2D, but reaaaallly don't translate well into 3 dimensions.

Iplehouse gets brought up a lot, but I'll bring it up again because I LOVE me some Iplehouse noses. Like, you look at that sucker and you can almost believe that it's made out of flesh and bone and cartilage - as if when you press on the tip they'll be soft and fleshy, but pressing on the bridge will let you fell the hard bone beneath a thin layer of skin and muscle. They're also varied in shape and size, which means the faces are recognizably different. Obviously this level of realism only works because the rest of the doll is also quite realistic, but its really quite attractive and its what draws me to Iplehouse dolls for my characters because I pay A LOT of attention to noses (seeing how they define familial and racial ties, etc.). I'm really excited for their next EID woman because she has a really prominent, angular nose which is perfect for a warrior of mine.

      * Okay, I DO have a preference for a shape - I'm particularly fond of the cute button baby nose, BUT that only really applies to a handful of my characters - a few children and one younger teen girl, so they're really the only dolls I'll own with a nose like that. Other characters have other nose shapes, so it's more important to me than the nose works with the face than what its actual shape is, though I do tend to stay away from larger, more bulbous noses for all but the most masculine of my characters.
