Not anatomically correct...

Nov 27, 2009

    1. Anatomical correctness isn't very important to me.

The only thing that has ever bothered me is a doll being slim enough to look unhealthy. I always look at how the legs are; I don't like the bow-leg look some dolls end up having. I don't care if there aren't many pear shaped dolls, or many of them are slim... just as long as they don't have an unhealthy look to them.

    2. I have to admit, I was a little worried that my JID Tania's breasts would look too big for her body, but I didn't want to get the small breasts and have her pretty much flat. I was pleasently surprised when she arrived, they're a really nice shape and they go well with her wide hips.

I just wish her lady parts were a little more realistic. I don't want anything over the top, but I'd appreciate a little more detail that just a line :/

    3. Like many of you, the breasts. Gah. I'm alright with large breasts on a skinny doll- I have friends with natural boobs bigger than their heads- but why are they shaped so round. Breasts have a multitude of shapes, of course, but I've never once seen a perfectly symmetrically round pair that wasn't man-made.

    4. I guess as far as bodies go I wouldn't have a problem with breasts so long as they looked in proportion to the rest of the doll and weren't super perky and looked like two balloons glued on. (And I guess "ideal" beauty involves symmetry so that explains the roundness)

I really dislike the over-exaggerated muscles I've seen on some of the adult male dolls.. reminds me a lot of Greek marble sculptures.

Definitely not a fan of the pear-shaped dolls either but for uniqueness I can see why it would appeal to some collectors.

I really like the big eyes on some of the dolls I've seen, especially the tinies and Yo-SD sizes.

    5. Super realistic dolls kinda... creep me out? I don't know, I like knowing it's a doll and not a miniature human, haha! And since I'm super into anime and all, it's not a huge problem. But there are some dolls that are just way too off: I forget which brand, but the guy's body was super long, like three heads tall, and his legs were super long compared to the head too... I guess I like dolls that are unusually tall, but not to the point where they don't look like a human? :3 In-the-middle!

    6. I know it sounds sort of vague, but noses that are big or too small and shapeless bother me, like Bobobie/Resin Soul's noses. I don't like anime-esque or eyes that are too large either.

As other's have mentioned, overly perky boob are a bit of a pet peeve, especially when they look like a pair of balloons tacked onto the poor dolls chest.

    7. Stylized anatomy I am fine with... but not if it's "stylized" because the artist doesn't know what they are doing.

    8. Perfectly agree!
I really love the newest dollzone bodies and the dollchateau ones, they're clearly stylized and in some cases is more difficult to sculpt a stylized body than sculpt a perfectly shaped one, so I really consider these bodies like pieces of art even if they're not classically shaped.

Personally I'm a fan of the Classic ancient Greek canon of sculpture so, I'm very very picky If a doll is not anatomically correct. I can close both eyes if the anatomy of the doll is set aside to allow the doll to pose better...
I prefer a good posing doll than a cool sculpted piece of resin! XD

    9. I'll be honest, I can't stand the over-blown poke-your-eye-out boobies that some companies put on their dolls. Now I'm not talking about companies like Iplehouse that give their dolls large busts but at least make them look natural- I'm talking about the companies where even the "small" chest sizes look like they could be a solid C cup and they look all squished together in the middle. I'm looking at you, Loongsoul...

    10. I'm sure all of my complaints with bjd anatomy have been voiced before. I am SO picky about anatomy and proportions for bjds especially in regards to human characters.

I don't mean to offend, but I dislike more bjds bodies and head sculpts than I like. While I appreciate the artistry in all bjds, and I think people can make so many different kinds of bjds look fantastic, I personally have a really hard time bonding with bjds that have really exaggerated proportions. Which is really most bjds, in my opinion. I feel like most bjds I come across these days have at least one glaring exaggeration in proportion or anatomy. The ones I notice most are disproportionately large heads and/or long legs, breasts that seem unaffected by gravity, super rippling muscles- sometimes with added muscles that don't exist, "anime" eyes and anime facial proportions, etc... Not that these can't all be nice features if you're going for a certain look, but sometimes I see why bjds can be stereotyped as "those anime dolls."

I suppose too, I'm just extremely picky. That, and I prefer msd- smaller sd size dolls, so my pickings are slimmer for "mature" sculpts. And my ideas are all for mature dolls! :sweat

    11. Doll boobs. Some companies make sculpts with boobs so big, it's both ridiculous and scary at the same time.

    12. Face to hand proportion bothers me a bit when it's a little off. It seems that way to me with my Doll-Leaves boy after I put the jointed hands on him. For whatever reason, I can't help but think that the palm-section is much smaller than what the original "normal hands" were. If I focus on it too long, it will bother me. XD;

Speaking of proportions, is it just me or does anyone else feel like the necks on some human body sculpts seem a little long? This was something that stood out to me a lot when I started working on trying to give one of my boys a neck tattoo. I ultimately wound up sitting there going "....That neck seems kinda long...." after the fact.

    13. AcesDelta- I can kind of see that too, though I think a lot of dolls have longer necks to account for the curve at the top that fits into the bottom of the head, which is usually covered. Then there's also the fact that a lot of doll bodies are longer and thinner than a normal human's would be (Doll Chateau is an excellent example of this with a very stylized aesthetic) so I think they do it to match the body.

    14. Dolls that only just miss realistic proportions.

    15. What bothers me the most is when the head looks to small in comparison to the body, sometimes Soom does that, but it's easy to fix with a nice wig.

I really love Doll Chateau anorexic dolls, really <3

    16. Feet. Especially on the male dolls. The feet should match the length of the forearm! They're usually so small, it looks weird to me.

The boobs thing I can deal with, even Loongsoul's, when I consider, "If I get one, I'm putting her in a corset". I think we all know what boobs look like when mashed into a corset! That actually makes it a plus, to have the shape there already. Although the model doll milk jugs are kind of wacky.

    17. Lack of symmetry in eye sockets drives me mad. It's funny, lack of eye symmetry is perfectly normal for any face IRL but when it comes to dolls it can drive me nuts, especially when it comes to positioning eyes. It's worse in some dolls than in others, and can result in me regularly adjusting eyes until I get to something I can count as acceptable / ignorable. I guess it is because for me the eyes are the most important part of any figurative work...if I don't like the eyes then it throws the rest out for me. Hence, why I pay so much attention to them in my dolls. There have been some cases, such as in my Bluefairy May kids - both SF May and TF May who funnily enough have exactly the same issue with the left socket being smaller than the right where to ignore the issue I have changed eyes multiple times. Finally, it was only with Souldoll NP / No Pupil eyes that I was able to relax as I stopped worrying about pupil positioning!
That would be my main anatomical bug-bear.

    18. just like with art I don't care much for perfect, exact proportion
if my girl was a little off, I'd never even notice

if she had really short/long legs, or a really long/short torso, or her head a little big I really wouldn't mind
unless her eyes, arms or legs are extremely unsymmetrical to each other or her neck was super long I wouldn't notice or mind

    19. it bothers me when dolls' necks are... thick, for lack of a better word, in comparison to their heads. i can't think of any specific examples at this moment...
