Not Wanting The Beautiful's

Sep 20, 2008

    1. For me there are a couple of groups of dolls I love but won't buy. One is the little Fairyland Pukis and Pukifees. I love their cute little faces but they're too small for me and just feel too fiddley in my hands. (And for some strange reason, the same faces in the Littlefee size just leave me cold.):? The other dolls that I absolutely adore are the big Iplehouse EID boys. Wow! So awesome!:D But they're just too big for me so I'll never have one. But I sure love looking at owner photos of them.:)

    2. There are some dolls I love and fawn over... but could never in my most profound of dreams own, because... most of the time, they're too thin. (Darn you, amazingly gorgeous Iplehouse dolls who look massive next to regular dolls. <<; ) I'm not about to give up my girl to buy the other beauties out there, but they have to look good with her, so they're all no-nos. And then there's the size issue. I downright refuse to purchase anything smaller than 30 cm, because then it just gets mistaken for a fashion doll. Oof! (And I'd probably lose said doll if I bought him/her... I'm pretty disorganized/forgetful.)

    3. I could never bring myself to own female IpleHouse dolls. They look "too beautiful" to belong in my doll family, which is composed of mostly chubby-cheeked, big-eyed girls.

Another example would be Doll Chateau's dolls. ALL of them. I admire them and think they're lovely, but I just can't. Again, I want everyone to fit into the doll family's aesthetics, as much as possible.

    4. It's Dream of Doll for me. I really enjoy looking at them online and in person but I think they're just not for me. They are the eye-candy-only-dolls. ^^

    5. I have a few!

The main one is the big Iplehouse boys. SO gorgeous! but huge and look weird next to the rest of my crew. Not to mention are so heavy I can barely lift them. lol

Another is Dollsclan. Again, gorgeous, but the ones I love are just too big.

lots of SD female dolls. Not any one specific one, but I look at gallery pix and such and some just take me breath away. But I don't bond well with girls (usually) so I wouldn't want to sink a lot of money into one just to sell her off.

and lastly, character dolls. I've seen some really amazing celebrity and gaming characters. Sephiroth, Cloud, Sora, Vincent Valentine, Gerard Way, Johnny Depp, Bill and Tom Kaulitz....and while they amaze me with their accuracy, I just wouldn't know what to do with a character doll. I prefer my OCs. I DO own MNM heads, but I use them for OCs, not the person it's meant to be.

    6. Absolutely~ There are a ton of dolls that I find gorgeous and would love to have but I know I'll never get them simply because they're too big! The same is true with many of the animal/anthro style dolls. I really love the cute little ears and paws but they just wouldn't fit in with my collection.

    7. I don't think I'd ever get anyone from Iplehouse. I don't knoooooow, I honestly have no idea at all why they put me off so much. I mean, I think they're very realistic and gorgeous even beyond the scope of the word but they're not for me. At all.

Oh and I harbor the same feelings towards Volks, save for the realistic part haha.

I'm also an MSD person so it's really hard for me to want to own most SDs and tinies.

    8. SOOM's more realistic sculpts always have this effect on me. Size isn't this issue, because I love big dolls. I also love realism in dolls, but SOOM's take on it always seems a little too flawless and, well, complete. It's hard for me to envision changing any of their dolls to suit my own style, and they mostly lack the sense of quirkyness that I get from other companies who also do more realistically proportioned sculpts.

I dunno. Maybe if I saw one in person I would change my mind, but for now I am happy to admire them via photographs.

    9. For me It's dolls with fantasy parts; hooves, horns, tails etc. Which is odd even to me seeing that the most beautiful doll I've ever laid yes on was one with fantasy parts. I found him here on DoA by sheer accident and was blown away by his beauty.
I could never see myself owning one not because I don't like them, but rather because I don't trust myself with them Lol. I'm a rough-houser and can envision a shoe box full of broken fairy ears, horns, hooves etc which would be quite tragic.

    10. Iplehouse EID guys...While I love their handsome facial sculpts, their size doesn't fit in with the rest of my crew, so alas, I must only admire them from afar. This also applies to the EID female body sculpt, and Soom MA's ~ These are also too large for me (although I adore the sculpting of all of these).

Tinies, most mini's, SD size dolls under 60cm, and highly stylized "anime" sculpts (with a couple of exceptions) also won't fit into my group.

All of the aforementioned are eye candy for me that I greatly love looking at, even if they will never become members of my crew.

    11. Dollshe Hounds, any Pipos dolls, and Ringdoll just to name a few. I think they are beautiful, but I just can't see them in my collection. There are other dolls with higher priority on my want-list. Maybe if I have more disposable income in the future, but until then I'm just happy looking at pictures ^_^

    12. I totally get that. I think that there are dolls that you love how amazing they look, but at the same time they just don't seem like a doll you would own. My roommate's doll is an awesome little guy,but I personally wouldn't have chosen him.

    13. Absolutely! I see lots of dolls that are absolutely gorgeous but just don't fit in with my collection, don't work for my characters or just don't fit my asctetic as well as others. I feel as though I need to be picky and have decided to limit my collection by saying no to some dolls even if I think they are gorgeous :)

    14. There was a time I would have said Iplehouse, but I now have a JID Tania. Though, aside from that, I've seen plenty of dolls who I think are gorgeous, but for whatever reason I have no desire to own them, be it lack of fitting with my group, simple lack of interest, price, availability... etc.

    15. I like other peoples customized Soom doll's, but I wouldnt really know what to do with one, or how to get all the money. o.o

    16. Most dolls from Volks, they are very beautiful but not for me. Simply too beautiful ;) Same goes for Soom and Luts.

    17. if it's beautiful and fits the character i take it, i guess it all depends on what each doll collector is looking for. that can also be applied to prices. like in my case, my goal is to find the right dolls to fill my character's roles and even though i have a very sweet tooth for cute and gorgeous looking things i wouldn't buy them because they just don't fit XD

    18. I find some of the girls are very beautiful but I will not have one for that very reason, I like to look at them but they are not for me I prefer the ones that are just a bit more quirky. I also like the big guys, so no matter how much I might ooh and aah over the tinies they are just too small for me despite how adorable they are.

    19. Too cute kills it for me. I appreciate cutie dolls and their adorable selves, but I personally cannot own them.

    20. Yes, definitely. Everytime I see pics of MNF Chloe I just have to have her. Such a beautiful schulpt! But she is just too tall for me, I wouldn't know what to do with such a tall doll so I will never own one...
