Not Wanting The Beautiful's

Sep 20, 2008

    1. There are SO many dolls I find incredible, but I know won't stay here. At the top of the list are Elfdolls. I've owned quite a few (Sooah, Hana Angel, K-SS) but they're just too perfect and cold. They belong to themselves, not to me. I feel the same way about Iplehouse, Latidoll, and numerous other companies.

With the exception of my Puki, I haven't found a brand that works for me the way Volks does. I don't think my dolls are the most gorgeous things out there. My Amakusa is sorta goofy, my Cristal is of course very boyish, and my F-06 is the most angry little girl ever. But they all have a lot of personality. For the first time in a long while I'm going to try a non-Volks (SOOM Topaz) and I really hope she works for me the way my SDs do ^^.

    2. Oh, definitely. There are a number of dolls I adore but won't own because of the price tag. Volks SD16 Amelia is one. :aheartbea But I love to swoon over other people's owner pics. ^_^

Off the top of my head, I can't think of any dolls I've admired but avoided buying for aesthetic reasons. I tend to buy whatever strikes my fancy, whether it's big or small, "cute/stylized" or "elegant/realistic". As a result, my doll collection is kind of a motley bunch, but I'm okay with that. ^_^

    3. I love Volks Amelia too. Want to spend over $2000 on her? She's beautiful, but I'd have to save my pennies to be able to get her :(

I love CP Shiwoos, but I wouldn't buy one. I know he'd be one of those dolls I'm happier to look at than to own and that's fine by me.

    4. TONS of dolls are like that. I think they're stunning, but they're just not for me. I, obviously, am a Volks girl. All of my SDs are Volks and I have no plan to change that. Having another doll near them would look silly in my opinion, because the proportions would be different. Like.. having a Hound next to my School A would make the Hound look like he's 9 feet tall and that he has TINY eyes. It just wouldn't look right. My MNFs and my DOC are a different size, so they're alright to look different, since they're in a whole different catagory. ^^

    5. Soom's Rex is definitely at the top of the list for me. I'm not generally too picky about who joins the family, but they have to 'feel' right. And while Rex is a stunning doll (probably my favorite mold aesthetically), somehow he would never fit in with me & my quirky band of misfits. Dolkot model Adam is another. He's just too pretty - I can picture him in the middle of the rest of the kids, very much like a backwards Cinderella & entirely too awkward. Not in size, but again in 'feel.'

I'm still debating over Pukis - I really want a Pukisha, but the rest I think I'm happy to admire their cuteness from afar.

& I'm pretty sure I'll never get a DoD Delphine even though I'm head over heels for her face just because I like her so much better as a boy...

    6. i dont like single jointed bodies all that much. that would probably keep me from getting any doll.....

    7. I always do this with Soom's monthly dolls. As beautiful as they are I feel that they are almost too beautiful. Like they should be in a glass case on display. I think that if I had one I would be too scared to touch them. I like holding my dolls, and I dont think I would be able to bond with them as much as I would like to.

    8. I never want the beautifuls!....I always strongly admire the most wonderful beauties/stunners but could never own one!.....My dolls are all very pouty/sad/grumpy/stern looking...with the exception of Pippi Longstocking..lol...she's happy.......I wonder why I always choose the dolls I do???......I'll keep on admiring all the beauties out there!!.....I do love my grumpy bunch....

      xen :)

    9. El. He's beautiful, he's sexy, he's fabulous. He's so...perfect! Least to say, I'm afraid, it bores me! I love the ugly-beautiful dolls and the funny looking ones. I'm not saying not well-taken care of or anything, no! They can be in perfectly fine condition with beautiful face ups, but they still have some sort of quirk to them. For example, my boy Var is a Homme Ivan, I take great care of him and his face up is fantastic; that mold has a HUGE forehead. I call him a bobble head. AND my current top on the wishlist? DIM Lloyd. Huge mouth, too narrow eyes, grumpy frumpy and just plain weird looking...I adore him.

I love the perfectly beautiful dolls, but they never really catch my interest. The only reason I have a Lahoo head is b/c he came for free with Var. And the reason I'm keeping him is b/c his quirk is his HUGE NOSE. Love it. <333 So yeah. Lovely to look at and I am always sincere when I compliment a doll, but it doesn't mean it's my type, and looking over things, it seems I have an odd type/taste. Teehee. Makes for more fun? xD

    10. Sometimes there are dolls that are so beautiful and perfect they just start to seem rather intimidating or simply unfitting for me because of their utter perfection!
Maybe it's because I know there just has to be some days when you aren't feeling so perfect or aren't so made up.
So I prefer dolls that are beautiful but not outstandingly so.
So weird, but yes, the soom mechas and dollshes are very beautiful - and so much I can't imagine owning one. Lol!

    11. Of course. I look at the small animal-like dolls and think "Well those are just cute." ... But I don't think I'd ever actually buy one. Too much for too little. But that's just my opinion.

    12. I actually agree, to a point.

The smaller (like puki or animal) dolls seem to be expensive for the height. You look at them and go 'ohhhh cutieee:aheartbea' but never actually want to pay that much for something that small and (to you) not worth it.
not to say i dont love puki's or animal dolls and some people are attatched and think its work it, everyone's opinion vary.

On that note, it seems to do the same for the bigger dolls, not 'cute' thoughm but beautiful, to an intimidating point! I personally, wouldn't want a doll i couldn't approch or even be afraid to touch! (refering to a few replies)
It seems for everyone, the dolls has to be perfect height, perfect mold, perfect everything! That person's perfect of course ;) Not the, 'beauitful flawless' prefect applies to everyone (Or atleast that's what I see while reading everyone's reply :P)

    13. I could never bring another cat home...I have two real cats and my Baha...too much competition!

    14. For me it completely depends on the character... but I usually go for the more "realistic" faces that have their little quirks. For my main character, Clean Slate, I picked a Dollstown girl because I wanted her to be a little strange looking. And for my boy I'm getting a Sabik (instead of a Rex) because his face is a little less perfect. But I'm also getting Soom's Monthly Topaz, because that character called for a perfect face...

    15. MNF Miyu (if i spelled that right) i love her to death but dont really want her. i have no use or character for her and cant even think of one to make up...so i wont ever get one. but i still think shes adorable!^^

    16. lol I think the only ones I wouldn't get if I had all the money for it all, would be plain standard models with no purpose behind them. Like no character of mine that suits them, if the features don't match. But limiteds and animal dolls and everything else, OMG! I want toooooo many! I'd say I'm just the opposite of you here. XD I want just about all of them.

    17. There are just so many dolls that it is sure to not want some....

I found some pretty cute ones and pretty ones... but in the end I found the one that was really what I wanted....

And even though some are cuter or whatever... they are just not want I want :<

      :)

    18. Dolls I keep going back to have a look at are Notdoll's Ligaya and Belladonna. They'd make an incredible pairing. Catish Vnu is also a fave, and I have her. She is pure :aheartbea. The pretties I look at, appreciate, and move on.

    19. There is one Luts Doll that absolutely made my heart melt. she is just to gorgeous for her own good. but then I suppose my post isn't much help since I plan on getting her at some point >_>;;

    20. Golly there are many dolls i like , im rather fond of sooms sard , rex and sabaki , but i dont think ill ever purchase them cause there rather big if i recall in the 80cm range. Also a luts bory which i find utterly adorable , but i told myself i would never buy a kid and stick to 60cm range.
