Obitsu General Discussion - Part Three (60cm, 55cm, 50cm and 47cm)

Oct 14, 2016

    1. Does anyone know if the 55cm boy chest will fit onto a 60cm girl body? I want to make my 60cm into aboy.

    2. Yes it will.

    3. So, the vinyl bug bit me good. I was going to hybrid Angel Philia parts onto an Obitsu 48 (still a good plan). However, when trying to see all the different combinations of the Angel Philia parts on different models from the Pink Drops line, Monami #38 really hit all those points for me due to the parts configuration and faceup. I was hesitant to buy a doll from the Pink Drops line because I was unsure if the nature of the styling would limit the doll to only looking erotic. Well, I talked to some of my more pervy minded doll buddies about this. They took a look at the promo pics and pointed out that the mouth didn't always have to convey what the promo pics are promoting, she could be singing, eating, yawning, etc..... so that was the only hesitation I had but their advice changed my mind. Not that there's anything wrong with the erotic look, especially since her face and proportions are all around very adult. I just hate limitations on something that's $$$. Because so many different parts are available, that also opened more doors for me to buy pre-made clothing. I can simply change the bust, torso and thighs and have a perfect or near perfect fit for many clothes for BJDs in sizes ranging from slim MSD, MSD, SD and clothing made for Azone, RAP, Obitsu, etc. In addition, I can always attempt to made items or commission others. The only hesitation that was left is that these dolls are not really in the budget range. Seeing as each configuration is a limited release, reselling a new condition doll will get a secondhand seller nearly their investment back and sometimes more. It's an odd market even within an already niche market. I had finally convinced myself and made a second order to FaithZ in Hong Kong and also ordered a sexy white Marine Officer costume for her. They shipped fast, just as the spare parts order I had made previously shipped.

I wasn't sure what I expected to find when I opened the box, but she looked fantastic. They wrap some foam wrap around the doll and it looks something like a dress, so I didn't feel sorry for her for being naked and cold looking like I sometimes do when I unpackage a new doll. The dolls are already blushed perfectly with a paint that is similar if not the same as playdolls such as Barbie. Not that it can't be removed, but it would take more effort than removing a faceup I would do myself. The details are amazing, because vinyl is cast differently than resin, more small details are possible. For example, she has a balloon knot in her bottom (that wasn't blushed- H type torso) and some natural skin fold lines along her back. The soft skin is really, really soft! The texture is completely different compared to resin and even other vinyl dolls in my collection.

There are a few downsides to this doll. A couple inner peg holes for the joints are loose, more than I thought would be a thing after seeing different YouTube videos and reviews. Her torso joint separates when I don't want it too, and her right leg at the hip detaches very easily, when I don't want it to. I tried to tighten the screw that holds the lower inserting peg into the hip joint, and sliding the ring down over that junction.... still loose... :( Her upper torso pops off easily, and did that when I opened her box. I have no idea why it does that and I have no idea how to fix it. Those are the downsides to the construction. The face has a open mouth, and I do plan to have a closed mouth alternative head. I did manage to snag one with some Obitsu parts. As I know, solo heads have only been offered twice, they are difficult to find, proxy services are expensive!!! Sadly, the head was tan where my doll is whitey, so the color match is wayyyy off. I wish there were more places to find other owners of these dolls beside Facebook, I've never seen so many rude, cheap, envious, greedy people as I have in one of the Facebook groups I joined, good thing they are outnumbered, too bad they are so loud. There are no Western dealers for these dolls as far as I know, so unless you find what you want in stock from a good vendor like FaithZ, you are left with buying from the small collector community or dealing with proxy fees and double shipping from Asian vendors that will not do international business directly. :( It's a pity the vinyl community is so small on DoA because the culture here is much more reasonable among owners than the wilds of Facebook. Then again, I'm glad that a couple of the vinyl types got in under a Grandfather clause. The outside social media doll communities are scary, but there are plenty of nice people there, they are just much more quiet than the loud rude ones. Few clothes are made specifically for these dolls and the ones that are can be quite expensive, they are an odd scale between slim MSD, MSD and SD. The feet are also a very odd size at 6.5, and the ones that are made are in such small quantities and more expensive than what we would expect to pay for MSD or SD, but I will keep at it and find what I can or just sit down and try my hand at making some. Faceups may be more complicated on vinyl, I have yet to attempt it, but I have my suspicions.

In conclusion, my first impressions of vinyl dolls is that they have a lot of options to offer, they have a more pleasant texture, less cold, less weight, will not kick you in the face, pose well and hold it. I can't say that vinyl is better or that I prefer it, but I have enjoyed it. Vinyl isn't going to replace my resin collection, but it's a lot more fun than I ever thought. I'm only sad I didn't have a better impression of vinyl dolls years ago and I have been misinformed and confused all this time. I'm glad DoA allows us to share some of them. Below is a photo of my Monami and my favorite resin hunk, Jeremy. Jeremy is 68cm, so that is why he's sooooo huge compared to her 48cm. They are certainly a different scale!

    4. Welcome to the Vinyl Side!

There are about maybe 2 dozen realistic vinyl heads and many more anime style. That's the down side. The up side is they are less than half the price (MSRP) of a resin head. The rarity of some of the AP/RAP/VMF50 heads has driven secondary market prices up.
Also if you are going to have multiple heads that share one body, get a neck piece for each head. It's tons easier to remove/reinstall the head and neck piece from the body than it is to reinstall the neck piece correctly in the head.

Both mediums can pull quite fine detail. The amount of detail is mostly due to the varying tastes of the sculptors.
If you are interested in learning more about the vinyl doll manufacturing process, Danny Choo has an excellent page on the design and manufacturing of his Smart Dolls, which are similar in that they are vinyl skins over an internal skeleton.

PM me on the Dollieh Sanctuary board and we can discuss some of the various fixes.

There are some new heads (and spare parts) always available at Parabox.

      Yeah.

There are some deals to be had. You can find a lot of "previously enjoyed" vinyls on Yahoo Japan Auctions and Mandarake. Just go to the Mandarake English site and do searches for VMF50, Angel Philia, Visuadoll, etc.

One of the reasons the vinyl community seems small is that there are only a few brands of vinyls. Any one resin brand taken by itself will look small compared to the doll community as a whole.

      Yeah. Long story...

Yes and with some of the hourglass figures of the AP and Pink Drops (RAP) girls, finding clothes can be a challenge.

Finding shoes that fit is real hit or miss. Just keep looking for the inner measurement of about 6.5cm to 7cm. They are out there, just hard to find.

I haven't found them to be more difficult. I learned my vinyl face-up techniques from resin face-up instructions.

Not better, not worse, just different. Except for posing. Because of the relatively light weight and inner skeleton vinyls kick butt in the posing department.

One down side you may not have discovered yet but soon will is staining. Vinyl is much more porous than resin so vinyls can be stained by clothing much more quickly. Check out this fun tutorial for Vinyl Staining 101.

    5. Yep, vinyl is different, but I do like it a lot! I still am trying to get my 48cm guy (actually a girl body) dressed. I know what pants I want, but spending ems just for one pair isn’t in my budget. So I must wait and save up so I can add on to the order to justify the ems. Like maybe the 40cm girl Hime-Ane. I’ve been wanting a smaller msd vinyl and was thinking Volks, but Parabox is a lot better priced. I can get a basic Hime-Ane with face up (I get to choose), eyes, wig, and under clothes for about what a Volks mdd body costs. Yeah, why didn’t I look into Obitsu sooner.

    6. Parabox was having a sale last week 20% off in all their stuff except the basic, and full set dolls.

I order a 40cm girl body, and a Mafuyu head and I love it. I find it more strong than the 48, and the 50cm girl bodies. I owned those two bodies on the past, but They always felt to fragile for me. But the 40cm body feels awesome I'm really enjoying my new msd size girl.

This is my girl Pecosa. If God permits I will send her next week to get her face up.

    7. @kurogane I'm with you... why didn't I discover the wonders of Obitsu sooner??? I think he will look good, the torsos are androgynous anyhoo, right?

@MrFjmg2003 She looks cute! You know you have a good sculpt when they look awesome blank! The posing for these guys really does rock.

@K-2! PM Okay, I sent with a long rant about the vinyl adventure over there. I'll check out the Dollfie Dreams forum, sounds neat.... Anime styled dolls are kinda hit and miss with me, so I never thought to look up that forum, and that's nice of them to allow some other makes for discussion. I do, however, love to see other owners' dolls no matter if they are 'my type' or not. If it's a doll, I want to see!!!

    8. @MrFjmg2003 your girl is so cute! I saw her pictures on Flickr and that’s what inspired me to check out Obitsu. Sad about missing the sale, but I do want a company face up as I’m tired of blank dolls, lol.Glad to hear about the body being so solid. Now I have to get saving!

@mollym yes, I have the small bust and it can pass for male with the right clothing. In fact I think the head sculpt (don’t know the name as it came on the 48cm body) looks more male than female, well, at least to me. Which is great! He can wear standard msd shirts, jackets and shoes. Pants are another story. Either they are too tight, but always too short. Then I discovered the 50cm Obitsu pants fit perfectly. I have a pair, but another hard to dress doll got them so poor Lysander is still in his anti stain suit, waiting.

I’m really tempted to get Hime-Ane, I’m just debating if I want to be making doll payments again. Just finished one up yesterday, lol. Well, I have time, I can save up and get her in a couple months.

    9. Do you sew? If not, some here take commissions. The nice thing about custom made items is they are not often more than from a retail source and will have a perfect fit!

    10. I can sew, but, I’m better at 1/6 scale :sweat. Anything bigger has more likely hood of failing. I’ve never looked into commissions, so I’m going to check that out. Ah, these dolls and their needs.

    11. Can anyone confirm whether or not Obitsu 50cm bust parts will fit on a Azo2 body? I'm considering buying an Azone 50cm doll that has Azo2 body with a G bust but, some azone clothes are too small for the G bust so I wonder if I could subsitute smaller obitsu bust parts so that the clothes would fit.

    12. All of the Obitsu stock (small, medium, and large) busts will fit the AZ02 body as well as most of the Angel Philia and Real Art Project (RAP) busts. You might have to "fold" the back of the AZ02 abdomen to slip it into some of the smaller busts, but no tools are required.

    13. That's good. Thank you for your help.

    14. Thanks K-2! I found an old Haruka head in my box of Obitsu pieces. She’s badly stained and nothing I do bar sand the stains off will remove them. It’s not too bad, a few drops of red something that a wig may cover. My friend gave me her a while ago and she’s never had a body. I bought a used 60cm body for her and surprisingly it colour matches pretty well.
I just wonder why you can’t buy the Haruka head anymore?

Work in progress Obitsu Haruka head.

    15. Haruka heads are still available from the Obitsu Online shop. Proxy required.

I've found the Haruka works well on the 50cm body as well as the 60cm.

    16. I also have an older Haruka head, I got her at a swap from a con years ago. Unfortunately I wasn't as lucky with the skin tone, but I managed to paint her and get a decent match that way! :3

She certainly isn't perfect but here she is! She still has no name...

Now the only problems; she needs a new wig and a neck piece so she can share bodies with my intended head. XD

    17. @MrFjmg2003 She looks cute on that smaller body. I never thought to even try that combination. I have a Mafuyu head but mine is on the 48cm body.

I just wish they would revamp the 60cm body as I love Gretel but I don't like the 60cm body she comes on. At one point I did hear that body had issues unless that was a previous version? And I feel like she might look kind of bobble headed on the 48cm body I have.

    18. Harukas and Gretels, OH MY!

    20. I'm making a hybrid ws ap and have hit a roadbumb. So far my list of items I am wait to arrive are
      48cm obitsu body
      AP H thighs
AP hands and heel feet ( already here)
      AP Lena head
AP c shins (because I couldn't find any azone shins)
I got everything second hand and was on a roll with even finding a nice AP torso for a decent cost. But the seller has ghosted on me and I'm pretty dissapointed. Can a pair of H thighs go on an obitsu torso?

Is it difficult to mod a female obitsu chest to make the boobs smaller/flat? I have no idea if there will be holes when I start sanding
