1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Obitsu General Discussion - Part Three (60cm, 55cm, 50cm and 47cm)

Oct 14, 2016

I just got my first 50cm Obitsu (Visuadoll Moegi Blanc) and I'm in love. I can understand why they used to be panned as "cheap" by the early resin BJD community--she came to me with lower casting quality and less seam cleanup than a Dollfie Dream, and the difference between her body and limb texture will take some getting used to--but she feels sturdy and designed to be played with. I love how easy the deep internal eye-wells + long-stem eyes make it to adjust her gaze without putty, and the magnetic feet are awesome :)

    2. I’m waiting for my 60cm Obitsu doll body to be shipped by surface from Japan. I read that surface shipping takes 2-3 months (never again). I’ll pass time by looking for a pre-designed Volks doll head because I messed up the first head I ordered.

Perhaps I’ll get a pleasant surprise if arrives while I’m back in class on January 20th, 2021.

    3. @ChilmarkGryphon - That's a very cool photo! The body must be so light to be kept up just by magnets in the feet!

@Rneiro - Oh, did you order from Parabox? I ordered a 50cm body from them this morning - finally took the plunge! I've really been warming to the idea of a lighter larger doll, and my little 24cm Obitsu is so posable. My plan is to hybrid the body with resin heads.

I hope it doesn't really take 2-3 months!

    4. I purchased an Obitsu 60cm doll from Fril JP/Rakuma through From Japan on December 8th. I found it used and a bit yellowed for 9,000 JPY/$89, which is better than spending 22,000 JPY plus shipping from Parabox. I ordered a blank head I messed up from Parabox not too long ago.

The Obitsu 60cm (discontinued) I bought is my first BJD. I’m searching for reasonably priced designed Dollfie Dream heads and compatible Angel Philia busts to create an Obitsu-Angel Philia-Dollfie Dream hybrid. I‘m glad I decided to start this hobby after considering it for 3+ years!

    5. @Rneiro - Ah, okay! I hope the shipping won't take as long as anticipated. And good luck with your hybrids! I seem to be drawn to hybrids, which is a pain sometimes because of trying to get all the parts to match, but it's also fun to research and experiment. Congratulations on purchasing your first bjd!

    6. The 50cm body is extremely light, weighing in at about 650grams unclothed.

You'll find the 50cm Angel Philia parts are too small to be compatible with most 60cm parts. The 50cm parts have a much smaller diameter and parts like 50cm busts won't fit well over 60cm torsos.

In the past I have used DDII exterior vinyl parts (busts and torsos) on 60cm Obitsu bodies. If I recall correctly the only modification needed was the Obitsu shoulders are wider than the DDII's shoulders so the receiving tubes of the Obitsu chest part (where the shoulder joint pegs plug in) needed to be shortened a little so the shoulder ball of the arm fit more snugly in the vinyl socket area.

      Argh!

I’m not surprised 60cm compatible busts and exterior parts are hard to find. I don’t think Obitsu will ever release new 60cm compatible exterior parts. Obitsu 60 exterior parts are either discontinued and/or always out of stock. :x

I need to begin my search for compatible L- to XL-sized busts. I was hopeful after I viewed your 50cm bust chart, but not anymore. :...(

    8. Quick question(s).. would Volks DDdy and DD busts fit an Obitsu 60? I read your 2010 Obitsu bust replacement page and wanted to check again before purchasing a Volks bust part.

Do you know of any other busts compatible with an Obitsu 60?

    9. Back when I was swapping 60cm Obi and DDII parts the DDDy had just come out. The DDDy underbust is bigger in diameter than the regular DD bust but all the DDDy bust shapes are replicated for the regular DD now.
I know I swapped a Dollfie Dream II medium, large and shapely busts and the DD regular torso. Back then Volks normal was a pretty close match for Obitsu white skin. Volks DD semi-white wasn't out at that time. Some people now prefer the semi white. I've not seen it in person so I can't help with that.
Hyatt (dark hair) is a DD medium bust.
      027: Fashion Nonsense

Diamond (redhead) is a DD large bust.
      075: Nemesis

Anna Marie (pink hair) is a DD shapely bust, although she hardly shows it.
      065: First Day Jitters

There are a few of the peach pai and other brands of soft busts out there, but that will take some serious searching.

    10. I have one more question relating to DDy and DDyIII bust parts.

Are the DDy and DDyIII bust part measurements the same? Both versions of bust parts appear identical from the outside except for the color choices offered.

    11. Guys, I've had a disaster! Was putting a new pair of socks on my Obitsu 50 boy yesterday and tilted his foot and there was a snap! On investigation, the bit that joins his foot to his ankle has broken! I can still pop his foot back on but it comes back off again pretty easily if I try to move his foot... I will have to buy some replacement ankle parts.

What I was wondering is, would you guys recommend having any spare parts in reserve? Would it be fair to say the Obitsu joints can be a bit brittle/ fragile? (I've had 2 x Dollfie Dreams for 14 yrs with no breakages at all and this boy only a month!) And if so, which parts would you say would be handy to have in reserve? My reasoning is, if I'm going to do an order, I may as well get a few pieces while I'm at it.

    12. Ouch, so sorry you had a break! I do have a spare set of ankles to keep on hand and have spare wrists for the extra hands, since they are so difficult to swap without each hand having their own wrist piece! Some have had difficulty with the hip piece. I have a couple of those as well ( I think) but was sent as a mistake when I was ordering the wrist pieces. Obitsu parts for 50cm were all in stock last I ordered from Parabox.

    13. I've had my boy and girl for nearly 10 years and as they are my dancers
they get posed a lot. So far my boy has suffered two broken elbows so
that seems the weak link to me. I'd buy elbows for him.

    14. Since I'm here... Can I use old heads on the new bodies?
Since the new bodies pose better I'd love to get them for
my dancers but I'm not confident that they will fit properly
on them since the new mechanism is so different.

    15. Thanks both for your replies, I will definitely take that advice on board when I do my order.

    16. The materials used in the Obitsu 50cms aren't any more brittle than those used in their other models or other vinyl/plastic dolls of this type. The 50cm parts are smaller than 60cm parts and consequently will not endure as much stress as a larger part. It can be pretty easy to inadvertently bend a joint the "wrong way", especially during the rigors of putting on tight clothes.

As far as spare parts go, if you change hands frequently, that is put new vinyl hand parts on the wrist joint part, it's worth having spare wrist joints. Installing new hand vinyls can be very stressful on wrist joints, especially if you try to do it without sufficient heating of the hand vinyl.

Another common breakage spot for the 50cm is the receiving tubes of the chest piece (where the arms insert in the chest) and the pelvis (a.k.a. the waist part). These mostly break during insertion of the arm or leg. Excess vinyl around these receiving tubes can get pulled into the tubes while the pegs are being inserted. This extra material can cause the tubes to crack leaving arms and legs loose. The simple preventative measure of trimming the arm holes in the bust part and the leg hole in the torso larger than stock can remedy this. These don't have to be cosmetically perfect cuts as both these areas are hidden when the arm or leg is installed.
With all the axis of motion in the chest part at the shoulder, it is advisable to move the shoulders/arms carefully, rotating/bending one direction at a time.

I still take issue with the notion that the 60cm's infamous spine part is "poorly designed" or "prone to breakage". I've had at least half a dozen 60cms over the last 10+ years and have never had a spine part fail. It is my contention that these parts fail due to being inadvertently bent where they shouldn't be bent. This is easy to do. Unlike arm and leg joints , the spine parts are entirely hidden inside the chest/torso and it can be difficult to guess where exactly its joints are located.

It's also advisable to bend each axis of a joint one at a time rather than trying to make a complicated joint motion all at once as one can do with a resin doll.

    17. Interesting. Thanks for your advice. Maybe I was being too cautious about needing spare parts.

I had not actually heard anything detrimental about the Obitsu spine.

    18. I have one more question relating to DDy and DDyIII bust parts.

Are the DDy and DDyIII bust part measurements the same? Both versions of bust parts appear identical from the outside except for the color choices offered.

    19. You might have to go to a DD forum for confirmation, but I think the DDDy and DDDyIII are really denoting differences in the internal structure of the doll and that the external vinyl parts are really the same.

    20. It's always nice to have spare parts on hand and not have to wait for an order to arrive. With the discontinuing of the 60cm body having some spare parts on hand is a real serious consideration.

The 60cm spine issue was heard about a lot more before the 50cm body appeared on the scene.
