Obsessed with another owner's doll?

Sep 16, 2005

    1. Hi Dollface,

I read all the posts in this thread, and I just wanted to wish you luck in finding *your* perfect doll. :)

I too had an experience where a certain doll prompted to buy the same sculpt, and when she came to live with me, I just couldn't bond with her and ended up selling her. :( I felt like such a bad dollie mommy, lol.

Now, I take my time deciding on who comes to live with me. If a certain doll strikes my fancy, I try to find other owner's pics of the same doll to get an idea of the sculpt's versatility, to see what it is that *really* calls to me about that doll. Then, when a new doll comes, I listen and let them tell me their personality and style. I think it's 50/50 that you should have some sort of expectation of character, but also let the doll tell you about themselves. You'll end up with a far more unique and varied character that way. :sweat

Also, dolls do change- they grow and change along with you. I think that's why I love these little resin people so much. Each one is truly unique. :aheartbea

Okay, enough of my rambling- going back to lurk mode now. :sweat

    2. There are many dolls here that I'm always happy to see more pictures of. However, I doubt I'd buy a doll for the purpose of copying it. They can serve as inspiration, but I'd never outright try to imitate every color and inch.

Though I try, I still haven't bonded with Arnold. I think I'm fighting changing who he is, because I feel like once I have something decided, I shouldn't change it. Maybe cutting away from that will help :P

    3. Not disappointed at all - in fact i was thrilled that my Kaito looked even better than the pictures + all my imagination when he finally arrived home!

My dream doll is Captain Cecile. Initially i wanted to go for a F-17 but i couldn't wait that long for a FCS, so i opted for a F-29. And Kaito turned out to be one of the best things that happened to me! :fangirl:

Sure i admire other owners' dolls, especially the Cecile/ F17/ F29 molds. But the idea of imitating those dolls has never crossed my mind. I've PM-ed some dolls + doll-owners, telling them how much Kaito & i love them and hopefully we can meet up someday. That's about it. Much as i like other owners' dolls, they are not my dolls, and i can never ever love them the way i love Kaito.

Dear Dollface, i'm not sure if you still have Tsukasa with you...but i remembered Nezumi once told me don't try to mold your doll into the character he isn't, and i thought this is really advice for me. Good luck to you~

      cheers
      mikan

OT: The truth is, Kaito needs more doll friends so that he'll stop bugging me to buy him a companion! :sweat

    4. she was the first BJD i fell in love with so I know what you mean - i am just lucky enough to live close to kittytoes so i have been able to see mina in person which makes me very happy that i never got an f-08 of my own.

    5. Ahah... I'm sorry the thread turned out this way^^; I read the first few pages. It was really cool to see that Joey replied to you and managed to help you hold your Tsukasa back for a while. It's been a year right? Is he still with you? How did this fairy tale turn out? I'm really eager to know!

It got pretty boring reading the thread past page 2/3 when everyone just started posting their favourite dolls, so i skipped them. But it made me realise that I don't really have a member's character doll I'm obsessed with. The closest would be Mandy Pandy's Zaydin, mostly because I'm a Jade-whore and god, nothing has ever struck me from out of the blue so hard other than the fact just how good a Jade could look in orange. And with attitude.

The dolls I -really- obsess over and want to buy are usually the ones I see on the company sites. For instance, Present Jade Ver 1 totally pawned me over. Every time I see a picture of him from EVEN A DIFFERENT FACE ANGLE OR SLIGHTLY TILTED HEAD I get so uberly swept off that I realised that I -was- in love. I did want to try and duplicate his face up. I sort of got it the second time around, but now I think I'd rather him look happier like he did in his first face up XD

Even for the Bernard that I love. I fell for the Tensiya Bernard. When I see the famous Bernards in the forums, I didn't like them as much, even though they have more 'life' in them. It was just that bernard on the tensiya website that I really adore. I'll go as far as to even get that faceup from the company, something I never really thought I would do, as I know I can already do my own faceups now, if not perfect.

So, the answer is, no. I don't obsess over owner dolls as much as I am in love with the dolls themselves when i see them on the official site. Devoid of an already existing personality, as blank as a canvas paper that I could paint on in a leisurely time.

So far, I only have one dream doll with me : Jade. And yes, he turned out to be wonderful, if in a different way than I expected. I love him to pieces that I think he'll be to core reason why I'll get any other MSDs. I got my DZ Xi just to be his boyfriend. I might get a meek Japanese girl doll as his girlfriend. I almost wanted to get a Ssin Phillip just because he looks like an SD version of Jade with exception of the downturned mouth, but hopefully I wont ><

    6. I'm obsessed with Evildolly's Schoolhead C and Lishe.
Omg they're really so gorgeous!! Especially the Schoolhead C.

    7. Obsessed, never. 8D In love totally. -Hides signiture banner- o_o; hehe

    8. The first BJD I ever saw was Niku's Aven. I wanted my doll to look exactly like him, but I knew that would be wrong so I tried to figure out ways he could look equally as good, but of course, nothing can look as good as an original.

I'm planning on getting a CP El in the future, but i'm afraid he's going to look like Lynsey's Belial or Belladonna's Casper which are my current obsessions -_-; Ugh I hate being un-original.

    9. I don't fall in mad, mad love with anyone's dolls unless I can see them in person. In pictures, it's just pretty art.

... that being said, I love Lyrajean's Finrod, but I think everyone probably already knew that.

    10. I've definitely had this experience... I LOVE aimee's unoa sist... and about 2.5 years ago, ordered my own during a preorder. When she arrived about 4 months later, I just didn't connect with her, and I ended up needing the money for school fees so I had to sell her (plus, I kind of wanted a sist boy).
Then, I watched Kayes thread while she was sculpting matilda and started saving even though I didn't know for sure that she was going to be for sale. When she arrived a few months ago, I had the human head (with kaye's faceup) on the body... and I played with her a bit but didn't connect, even though she looked *just* like the photos.... then I switched to the elf head and started playing with faceups and just a few days ago BANG! she has her own personality! But she still has that same spunky, freckled look that I loved about Kaye's faceup and sculpt.
(plus, I started making clothes for her, and having clothes that really work with her personality, makes SOOO much difference).

      *here's a pic*

      I'm so so happy:)

so don't worry, I'm sure you'll either connect with your baby, or you'll find someone else that you connect better with.

    11. I do get very obsessed with some other people's dolls. Mostly several Naraes and two particular Catsies, all with wonderful faceups and owners that take amazing photos. Not coincidentally, the last two dolls I purchased were Catsy and Narae.

      Carolyn

    12. Sabrielle's, Helene's, and Belladonna. All their dolls make me go gaga.

    13. With a title like such that you created how could it not turn into that. As for other owners feeling bad if there doll isn't mentioned... I have no pity for them. You shouldn't have a doll if you expect other's approvel or attetion on how it looks. There are to many owners and dolls on this site to keep up with. For anyone to get upset. Some people just have dolls that stick with you. Others don't, but it shouldn't matter if you love your doll. Why care about what anyone else thinks. *hops off soap box*

    14. Wow, this thread just keeps coming back! Thanks for all the comments.

I still have my Tsukasa. :)

I like Uno's personality and that kind of makes it hard for me to "adapt" to my own style. Maybe I need an Uno action figure and not a BJD? *dies* I don't think i can copy him no matter how hard I tried. So no worries there. :)

    15. me too, and Duo is a big fan aswell.
But no, I did not get a MNF El because of that.
Wufei is very much his own person.
I just thought the mold was perfect for Wufei.

    16. Yay Toren has some stalkers!
      *big grin*

    17. Obsessed? Nah. Totally and completely in love and more than willing to welcome them into my home should the opportunity arise? YES!
      (There's quite a few)

Belladonna's, Morbidollz' and Frozen Wings' dolls.
      Ilu and Aulen. (Especially Aulen)
      Hayden and Eiji.
That little fellow Eli. Don't know who owns him or his mold, but he's a pouty msd with eyeliner and a blond fauxhawk.

    18. Ahhhh~ I'm obsessed with Nohbahdee's Lazlo.
I used to "stalk" the poor boy... :sweat And if I could, I still would...
But now I just check the No Angel LJ and site at least once a week... just to see if he's back yet. :aheartbea
He was the first doll that really made me go "WOW! :chibi I want one now!"

EDIT: I forgot to mention, but now I'm really into Mori and Nikita. I go to the LJ a lot to read up on them :sweat
I also reaaaaaaally like Scaramouche and Fandango~ :love

    19. The first doll I fell for was from SassyStrawberry.com she was a Soha ... It's been so long since I'v visited Sassystrawbeery I forgot her name :doh she had such a cool name too. ( anyways ) She opened the door to the whole bjd world. I bought a Hound I had to get a boy first, But im getting a Soha next, The more she looks like the soha I fell in love with the better, after all imitation is a form of flattery. (I think) Wait! Temperance was her name!

I don't know how it happened but around page 3 this became some kind of popularity thread. I know some people in this forum feel bad when their dolls are not mentioned in threads like this. The point of this post is just to ask if any of you experienced the same disappointment as I have when your dream doll didnt turn out the way you expected it to be. I just used Uno as an example. Sorry for the misunderstanding. :( If I was not able to communicate taht properly, I need to be shot. *is shot*[/QUOTE]

    20. Um..I really like all unoa's actually. None of them ever look bad! It's not possible! XD
