1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

One expensive doll or multiple cheaper ones?

Jan 28, 2020

    1. For a few years I would have said I take multiple cheaper dolls, but nowadays I'll choose the expensive grail doll. Because if the grail doll is on top of my wish list I would always love the one grail doll more, than the many, many, many other affordable dolls that I'll only like.

    2. Me, me, and also me. I have one doll on my wishlist I'm planning on buying new and the $600 price tag is making me shudder in my old age. I usually buy discontinued sculpts secondhand because it's what I prefer; they are both my grails and about as "cheap" as one can get in this hobby.

If we're talking about as a relative newcomer to the hobby...then I'd say just pick the one you like best and save up for it. You may get lucky if you go with a doll that's cheaper that you aren't crazy about and find yourself really falling for it, or you may realize you're now stuck with losing money as you try to resell in a slow-moving market.

    3. I would go for one expensive doll, in reality I have only 2 dolls and they are kind of expensive(??) and I wont ever change them for cheaper 4–5 dolls Q.Q

    4. This summer, I sold 7 dolls to buy 2. Twigling non-standard colours are €999, and their regular dolls are already €850, and I have one of each on that order. It wasn’t super inexpensive dolls I sold for that either, but I managed. I always answer that question with “whatever I love.” If I love the moddability of Resinsoul’s 60cm body, and love the way it looks even unmodded, then it being inexpensive is a bonus. But if I love Twigling dolls, nothing else looks like them, and I‘d rather have 1 than 3.5 dolls that are “almost Twigling”

    5. The expensive doll. If I can find her. Because she's popped up recently, but I did not have the capital. Damn! I'll have to wait for the next time she comes back around. I will always troll for the expensive singular doll, because if I don't buy her soon enough, that actually keeps me up some nights. Pining. The only way I can smother the want for the expensive one is, working on other parts of my want list. I save for the expensive one, while looking for bargains on others from my list. It's awful I know.

    6. I'd have only one grail lol
I think of it like would you go for quantity or quality? If you intend on keeping your grail then why not make the investment:)
What matters is that you are happy, if you are very attached to your current collection it would make no sense to sell them, is it possible to layaway the doll you want?
Possibly keep your current dolls and pay off your grail
