Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Only allowing yourself to buy "cheaper" dolls?

Sep 30, 2007

    1. saving's always been a good thing to do~

    2. Heck, the more you save on your dollies - the more wigs, clothing and accessories you can get them! Hehe!

    3. Saving money is good, as long as you still like the doll. When I was asking for one for christmas I pick one of each size and asked mom for the biggest and most expensive one first. I ended up with the smallest size because she was cheapest but that doesn't mean she was of a lesser quality than the more expensive ones. I'm happy having a smaller doll because if she wasn't as cheap as she was, I probably wouldn't have a doll at all right now :3

    4. I've fallen in love with some "cheap" dolls and some not so cheap dolls and I think if you like it but can't afford something else go for it. They are customizable and besides maybe when you have it in your hands you will like it more than the expensive one.
I have four dolls and all are bobobie which is a company that all their dolls are under like $240 or so and so maybe it's just me but I think those are the prettiest dolls. It's a matter of opinion I guess. lol.

    5. I myself have always been rather frugal. I like to spend my money wisely and efficiently, even when it comes to luxury items such as BJDs. Of course there are dolls I love that are all over the price range. But the three dolls I've purchased have all been 'cheap'. Did I get them for solely that reason? Nope!

In fact, the doll I most recently ordered was one that I instantly fell in love with. I was only checking a BJD shop to see what was new...and there he was. So I did some research on him and even when I was unsure about his body, that grew on me, too!

HOWEVER...I would have been able to buy a more expensive doll if I'd wanted to. Sure, I could've gotten that Delf Shiwoo I've had my eye on for years. But when compared to the beauty I spotted out of nowhere? No contest.

You know, sometimes I am actually a tiny bit ashamed of liking 'cheaper' dolls, because I worry about how I'll be viewed on the forums. But, to each their own.

If a doll you fall in love with is cheap, double bonus!, I say!

    6. It depends on the person. If you really love the cheaper doll then it's fine, as long as you're content with it. The bad thing is when people regret it later on saying "I wish I should have bought this/that doll instead!" If that happens then it's similar to wasting money. The first thing you should think about is how much you want the doll. If you're not sure that you would like it then don't buy it. It's better to save up for the doll you really want ^^

    7. Sure, I've found that there are cheaper dolls that I like, but the only ones I am truly pining for happen to be over $500. I'm pretty broke and have never had any one thing cost that much ever(my computer was even less!) and even $100 seems crazy expensive to me, so if I'm going to take that plunge I might as well go all the way. That huge price tag somehow makes the dolls seem more unattainable and thus more special. (I'm not saying I chose them because they were expensive, believe me I wish I loved the inexpensive ones.) I think for me it would be better to not have any doll, than have a doll I only kind of like.

    8. I have to say, I'm the type of person who makes a list of dolls she likes, picks one, looks at the price... and then changes her mind. Price is pretty important to me, and if there are two dolls I like pretty much equally and one is much more affordable, of course I'll pick the cheaper one, because that leaves me with the possibility of extra money to buy that doll some clothing!

Of course, I'm not the type of person to fall head-over-heels in love with a doll from the picture on the website, either. Pretty much any doll I like the appearance of and can come up with a character for, with time, I'll end up getting attached to, so... it's mostly a given that price is a big variable to me when I'll end up loving the doll no matter what.

    9. I think in this hobby most important is to buy the doll you like, without watching the price too much. (If you can afford it.) What you need to think, is that do you really think this kind of doll is worth of the price for you and your life at that moment. I think it doesn´t really help to buy the cheaper doll as replacement just to get one; even the cheapest ones are quite expensive.

There´s no reason to like or loath a doll above another just because of the price of it, most important thing of the hobby is that you like the doll you have. In my opinion it´s just better for your wallet if you happen to fell for a cheaper doll. :)

    10. The first ABJD I laid my eye's on was a DZ Feilian. After asking her owner a few questions I decided I wanted to look into the habby. I at first decided on a BBB Sprite. I had the money saved up for her. But saved for another 5 months and bought a DZ Feilian and DZ yumi. 1 1/2 later I am waiting on my 3rd DZ girl a DZ kimi. But I still want a BBB Sprite. To me no ABJD is cheap. They all are a luxury. And I have to save for each and everyone of them.

    11. I was saving up for an Angell Studio Andrea & Cinderella Snow pair (still am actually) when I came across Bobobie's Pandora and I just wanted her :D, and when I saw her price I knew I could buy her then and there and I was all happy happy joy joy :celebrate.

I would of gotten her whatever her price, the fact she was cheaper just ment I didn't have to slog and scrip for months to get her. Plus she should keep me occupied till I have the money for the pair :sweat

So her price was a factor I guess but not in if I got her or not, just in when I got her ;)

    12. I ordered a cheaper doll (Doll-zone Yume-2 for 240 Dollar) but because I completely fell in love with her. It is my first doll and actually plan on making her my only doll (let`s see how this will work out ^^). I completely love her face. the body looks fine on pictures but I will see in real life. If I don't like it so much I will order another one sooner or later. I am ready to invest in her so she will end up the doll of my dreams.
I think you should buy the doll you fall in love with! If you like a cheaper doll thats good for your pocket.
And actually even the "cheap" dolls are quite expensive.

    13. For me is pretty important the price, but I always fall in love with expensive dolls, then...
Yep, for me a doll for $300 is really expensive. I'm a poor schoolgirl from a poor country. When my father bought for me my first doll, I was kinda happy, but I cannot wait always for my father. For my friend we're helping for saving for her doll. It's pretty hard! We saved 20 USD, and we're doing it about two and half weeks.

    14. I like the cheaper dolls because I'm not as worried when I mod them that I'm decreasing their value. Instead I feel the opposite, that im increasing their value to me.

    15. Hang in there. $20 in two and a half week time isn't bad at all. It's how much I usually save up in that time. Keep going and you'll get a lovely doll in the end.

    16. I'm perfectly happy with my "cheap" dolls. I've certainly seen some high-end ones that I liked, but I simply don't have the budget for that sort of thing, and I don't find myself longing for any of those more expensive dolls. In my mind, $200.00 for a luxury item is quite a lot of money, especially if you think of it in terms of gas or food or firewood. I sometimes feel a bit guilty having such fancy playthings, really.

    17. I am waiting for a DZ Ying and I chose him because he appealed to me the most.
He's a birthday present from my husband who wanted me to specifically choose a doll I genuinely want and not because it's cheaper or available from a UK dealer etc.
Maybe I have cheaper taste but I adore the DZ dolls.

    18. I've recently gotten into the dolls, and I've browsed quite a few of the pages, looking for a good priced doll. I personally don't have the money to spend buying a super expensive doll. But that doesn't mean I'm going to choose one over the price. To me, buying one has a lot to do with how the doll looks. If I like how the doll looks, and the price is decent, then I'm all for buying it.
Though recently I decided that I'm going to make my own doll. Not because it's cheaper, but because I want to make mine custom, exactly how I want him to be, and I know I can put my talents to work by doing it.

    19. I should have >_<!!
Ordered a Soom and i feel the pain....
Plus everytime i see a cheaper doll out there, it gives me the "OMG ITS CHEAPER! maybe i should have gotten that" feeling x_x
And i havent event gotten my doll yet lol!

    20. I would love it if I could fall in love with one of the 'cheaper' dolls for once, but unfortunately when I buy dolls, I already have a certain character in mind for them so I'm often looking for dolls that have specific features.

The only thing with some (not all, just some) of the cheaper dolls that I've noticed - especially some of the newer Chinese doll companies that have opened up - is that the dolls tend to lack some what in facial expressions/details. Obviously for the price they're selling them at, I don't expect something as detailed as say a Soom MD with a gajillion extra fantasy parts sculpted gorgeously or a marvelous jointing system like a Fairyland doll has.

Sadly, poseability and aesthetic appeal is a big factor to me and like I said above, I tend to go for dolls with a certain look. I'm probably biased towards certain companies too; like I tend to favor Soom sculpts for instance.

Still, I wouldn't hesitate to buy a much cheaper doll if I ever fell for one of the dolls from say Bobobie, Resinsoul, etc~ in fact, I'd be positively ecstatic over not having to shell out $400+ on a doll for once *_*

As for what I think of people who restrict themselves to only buying cheaper dolls? I think it's perfectly fine as long as they actually like the dolls they're buying and not just jumping on the band wagon and buying the first cheap dollies they see. To each their own after all; while I dislike the simple look of some of the cheaper dolls, someone else out there will love them ^^
