ONLY buying Male & ONLY buying Female Dolls

Jun 9, 2010

    1. I prefer the male dolls, as male figures when it comes to anime figures and so. I can consider buying a girl, but since BJD is a pretty expensive hobby, this make me buy just the things I REALLY want, so, in almost every case, a male doll. The reason for it is just that I think the guys outfits are more interesting than the girls in many times and for personal taste, I think the boys are so more beautiful on shelves ^^

    2. Do you only buy one sex of doll? Why do/don't you?
I live in a No Girls Allowed clubhouse. I guess I'm just one of those boys that never truly stopped believing in cooties. Girls are gross, and I really don't want those pesky cooties. I honestly have no other way of putting it other than I like my boys more than those girls.

If you do, would you consider ever buying the opposite gender of doll?
Never. Plain and simple. I can't ever imagine myself buying a female doll and truly being happy with her. It would be an injustice to both myself and to a doll that would be much better suited for a different owner.

Does the sex of a doll make them more appealing to you?
I suppose that plays a factor in my dolls. I love those sculpted, totally ripped bodies with the abs and other muscles. A soft, frilly, busty body just doesn't do it for me. Like I mentioned above, when it comes down to it, the female body in all its forms, resin or physical flesh, just disgusts me.

Would you ever buy a head of the opposite sex to use on the doll (maybe because it looks like the opposite gender)?
Since my main issue is with the body, yes, I would consider this if I truly believed a girl head would look better with a male body. I don't really see it happening, though.

    3. Do you only buy one sex of doll? Why do/don't you?
I only buy girls :) Because.. I don't know, I just like girls. I'm not a lesbian, I don't dislike men (in fact, I like them better than women to hang around with) but I absolutely love girlying up my dolls. I think that is what most appeals to me. Unless I'm cross dressing my boys, I wouldn't be able to put them in frills.

If you do, would you consider ever buying the opposite gender of doll?
Perhaps... if they needed a boyfriend! Haha... Though I am somewhat becoming more partial to male dolls, but only tinies, cos I think it'd be cute to have them play with toy trucks and trainsets and collect frogs.

Does the sex of a doll make them more appealing to you?
Yes. If I look at a doll and I find out it's male, I probably steer clear of it. If it's female though it's more of a possibility that I'd like it.

Would you ever buy a head of the opposite sex to use on the doll (maybe because it looks like the opposite gender)?
Hmm maybe with pukis. Though if it looks very masculine and the dolls aren't terribly interchangable, then I can't say I would do that. However one would have to consider that I don't buy heads on their own, either.

    4. Do you only buy one sex of doll? Why do/don't you?
I plan on buying both genders. I think it would be really boring to only choose one or the other. However, I'm more picky about male dolls(especially the face).

Does the sex of a doll make them more appealing to you?

No, it's always the face that draws me in.

Would you ever buy a head of the opposite sex to use on the doll (maybe because it looks like the opposite gender)?
I like androgynous characters so I think I would.

    5. Do you only buy one sex of doll? Why do/don't you?
Yes, but I`m thinking of changing my mind.
It happens so that I just like boys)

If you do, would you consider ever buying the opposite gender of doll?
At first I chose only boys, and I thought I`d never buy a girl)

Does the sex of a doll make them more appealing to you?
It does not metter, in fact, but I`ve tested it several times - I was curious about it myself - and all dolls that I chose were boys, even if I didn`t new exactly the doll`s gender.

Would you ever buy a head of the opposite sex to use on the doll (maybe because it looks like the opposite gender)?
It happend to me with the last boy I received, I painted a human head and suddenly I realized that it is a little girl)))
I loved it so much, and it doesn't bother me at all))
It's a bit different from your question, but the head with this make-up looks girlish)

    6. Do you only buy one sex of doll? Why do/don't you?

i haven't found a girl right now i'd really like to have, but there are many boys i wanted to have XD

If you do, would you consider ever buying the opposite gender of doll?

If I'll find a girl i want to have, I'll buy her i think

Does the sex of a doll make them more appealing to you?

      -
Would you ever buy a head of the opposite sex to use on the doll (maybe because it looks like the opposite gender)?

      i already have XD
my first doll has a male body and a female head, because i wanted him to look more female and haven't found a head that fits

    7. Do you only buy one sex of doll? Why do/don't you?
I used to. I used to have 9 girls in my home. I had no boys policy, since i belived i can't really do anything to 'play'with them.
then i bought one SD boy, thought it would be great for my girls to have a big brother, but i was wrong.
not only i can't love my SD boy like other girls that i have, he was too 'heavy-looking' and lacked sweetness of girls.
so i parted with him...swearing that i won't need anymore boys.
Now i have 5 girls and two boys....^^
One of them being pukipuki pukisha(he's a boy even if he's very small, lol)
and one of them being Volks Yo-sd Colin.
I love my Colin to death!

If you do, would you consider ever buying the opposite gender of doll?
Not anymore. I have Colin now, so i'm satisfied XD

Does the sex of a doll make them more appealing to you?
Yes, I found out that i like girls more than boys. (I still like to look at the pictures of boy BJDs ^^)

Would you ever buy a head of the opposite sex to use on the doll (maybe because it looks like the opposite gender)?
I did, and i am satisfied with it :3

    8. Do you only buy one sex of doll? Why do/don't you?
I find that funny but until now I could only buy girl dolls. And small dollies without any sex are all girls for me.
If I think from psychological point of view I'm trying to have some sides of my characteris embodying in female dolls. I realized that looking for clothes or other accessories for them I choose the ones I'd like to wear/have myself.

If you do, would you consider ever buying the opposite gender of doll?
I am always thinking of buying a boy, but only because I'd like my girl to have a "boyfriend". I rarely consider buying male dolls for themselves - they are just not so interesting. So far I wanted to buy only one for himself and didn't it as I thought of not having a girl for him - so why would I have him? And even when I am saving money to buy a boy I most likely buy some girl instead!

Does the sex of a doll make them more appealing to you?
I like to look at the pictures of both girls and boys. But boys are mostly for looking at and girls are for buying.

Would you ever buy a head of the opposite sex to use on the doll (maybe because it looks like the opposite gender)?
Yes, its so often to see male dolls that are too feminine. That makes me thinking of buying their heads only and match them with female bodies that it would look more "normal".

    9. Do you only buy one sex of doll? Why do/don't you? No, but the vast majority of my dolls are female. Including the dolls I have incoming I own 4 boys, 9 girls.

Does the sex of a doll make them more appealing to you? Obviously lol, but not in the abstract. When it comes to practical buying, I have more female characters and generally like sewing for, photographing, etc girls better than boys. With that said, I'm equally picky about sculpt/body for either gender, though there aren't many male bodies I like in his hobby.

Would you ever buy a head of the opposite sex to use on the doll (maybe because it looks like the opposite gender)? Yes. I have an MD Jina boy; migi is used to sculpting male heads, so even Jina is extremely androgynous.

    10. Do you only buy one sex of doll? Why do/don't you?
I only look at female dolls, and I would only buy female dolls. I have zero interest in male dolls - I actually find the majority of them quite repulsive and in all my doll searchings, I haven't seen a single one that even caught my attention. I am super picky about the females I like (I prefer them as realistic as possible) and I don't think male dolls fit into the things I like.

Even when I was a kid, I prefered female dolls over male. The only male dolls I had where characters like Eric from The Little Mermaid. Maybe I am just not interested in making up male characters? I am more attracted to females than males in general anyway (although I am in a long-term relationship with a man) so I just can't find myself cooing over resin abs and biceps like other people on the board do.

If you do, would you consider ever buying the opposite gender of doll?
Never ever ever ever ever. I know I shouldn't state absolutes, but I can't ever imagine buying a male doll, not even as a boyfriend for one of my female dolls, as all the characters I have are not that way inclined anyway haha. I'm interested in getting dolls to do historical cosplay with them, so I would just cross-dress a female doll if I wanted to make a costume for a male character.

Does the sex of a doll make them more appealing to you?
Yes! It is the main appeal.

Would you ever buy a head of the opposite sex to use on the doll (maybe because it looks like the opposite gender)?
I would consider buying a 'male' head and putting it on a female body if I thought it would suit - but there are so many female dolls I want I can't imagine going to the bother!

    11. Do you only buy one sex of doll? Why do/don't you?
At present I have yet to see a male doll that really appeals to me--they're all too girly for my taste. Aside from that, I love girl clothes and am much more interested in learning to make those than guy clothes.

If you do, would you consider ever buying the opposite gender of doll?

Sure, if I ever found one that really fit one of my characters.

Does the sex of a doll make them more appealing to you?
I prefer girl dolls, but I've seen some nice looking boy dolls in the gallery...just not what I'm looking for. I've also seen some male head sculpts that would make amazing girls.

Would you ever buy a head of the opposite sex to use on the doll (maybe because it looks like the opposite gender)?
Yes, because several times now I've seen lovely 'male' heads that I've wanted for girls. Right now I'm too new to worry with making hybrids, but I can see myself doing it a year or so down the road.

    12. Do you only buy one sex of doll? Why do/don't you?
I would like to have both genders in the future (I like photos of couples :) ), but now I have ordered just a female doll.

Does the sex of a doll make them more appealing to you?
To be honest, girls are a bit more interesting for me (because they can wear more various types of clothes).

Would you ever buy a head of the opposite sex to use on the doll (maybe because it looks like the opposite gender)?
      No.

    13. Do you only buy one sex of doll? Why do/don't you?
I actually have both male and female dolls. Although male dolls are priority to purchase, I'd prefer to have both genders in my collection.

Does the sex of a doll make them more appealing to you?
In general, male dolls are a lot more appealing to me but I am attracted to some female dolls here and then. I don't know if it has something to do with gender or psychology but I enjoy looking, drawing or watching males a lot more than females. And my taste for female dolls are rather particular. For example, Yur and Asa from Ipple-house, Stramonium from DollZone, Mei from ResinSoul, Shall from DOD or Junior Elf Spica from Eluts.

Would you ever buy a head of the opposite sex to use on the doll (maybe because it looks like the opposite gender)?
I have considered to have a female head on a male body but the other way is never occurred to me (although I know there are tons of male heads are feminine enough to pull this off lol)

    14. Do you only buy one sex of doll? Why do/don't you?

As of now, yes, I only have male dolls. It just sort of turned out that way- my DoD boy was a doll I wanted years ago, so that was a given. And then my second boy, my YoSD, sort of just turned out to be a boy because it fit his character more. My third I had a choice of getting the sculpt as male or female, but... again, the character that came to me was male.
I have always had troubles "connecting" with female characters, and when I think about it, I've never really had an actual female character. (I think I did have one once, but I quickly turned the tables and soon hated her so she was dumped :C)

If you do, would you consider ever buying the opposite gender of doll?

Yes, I have plans for maybe 3 female dolls/characters. One is a special surprise that I'm going to experiment with character-wise, but the other two I'm not sure how I'll bond with, if at all. If I were to buy a female doll, though, I'd have to make sure her character is completely fleshed out right down to their family tree four generations back before I even started saving for the doll.

Does the sex of a doll make them more appealing to you?

Actually... this is pretty split... x: I think all BJDs are gorgeous regardless of their sex, and there are many appealing female dolls. However, all these female dolls that appeal to me if I were to get I, more or less, have the intention of making them male.

Would you ever buy a head of the opposite sex to use on the doll (maybe because it looks like the opposite gender)?

      Yes xDD I'm planning on doing this with several dolls since I love their head sculpts. And when you get right down to it, dolls' heads are pretty androgynous until you give them a body/character ;)Though meanwhile I'm still struggling to find the *perfect* female doll to embody the few female characters I plan to have e-e;

    15. I buy both female and males, mostly female dolls. Mainly because of the clothing and facial expression.

The sex of a doll does not matter.

I have considered putting a head of the opposite sex, DIM LLoyd has a face that could could go on a female body. So I would.

    16. Do you only buy one sex of doll? Why do/don't you?

So far I only have males but I do plan on purchasing two females down the road.

If you do, would you consider ever buying the opposite gender of doll?

      I plan to.

Does the sex of a doll make them more appealing to you?

Not really. It's based on characters that I have and I simply find it easier to get sculpts for the male characters.

Would you ever buy a head of the opposite sex to use on the doll (maybe because it looks like the opposite gender)?

I almost got the Qian sculpt on a male body, but in the end I felt she was better for a female character. Some sculpts do have a very unisex faces and work well on either.

    17. Do you only buy one sex of doll? Why do/don't you?
No.I'm both interested in having boys and girls.Er~~~but actually, boys are rare in my family= =

If you do, would you consider ever buying the opposite gender of doll?

Does the sex of a doll make them more appealing to you?
No....I still love them whether they are boys or girls.(Because some of my boys also wear dresses and look like girls, while some girls dress like boys;).)

Would you ever buy a head of the opposite sex to use on the doll (maybe because it looks like the opposite gender)?
Yes.The doll in my avatar,Hua Lian from Angel Studio,is a boy, but I change his body to a girl because he looks more like a girl.

    18. Do you only buy one sex of doll? Why do/don't you?
Right know I only own one BJD (two are about to come). All my dolls are female (I also have pullips), even my two next girls. I don't feel like having males. Maybe male kids, but not now.

If you do, would you consider ever buying the opposite gender of doll?
A male Tiny is ok. As for a man, well, I think don't like male dolls because they are, mostly always, the oriental pop-culture man stereotype and I don't fancy that. Maybe if I previously have in mind a male character I'd be able to customize a male sculpt to look better for me. But I hardly ever have ready characters before getting the doll.

Does the sex of a doll make them more appealing to you?
Yes. Girls, definetly. They're more versatile in many ways. Males sculpts are too effeminate to appeal to me.

Would you ever buy a head of the opposite sex to use on the doll (maybe because it looks like the opposite gender)?
Nope. No matter how much I think male sculpts don't have the potential to look like the man I'd like them to be, their foreheads are still male foreheads and, for me, wouldn't suit a girl's body without looking really weird. About a girl's face on a male body, well, not yet. This kind of think must be previously planned as a whole character. As I said before, I don't go for dolls to turn them into previously planned characters.

    19. Do you only buy one sex of doll? Why do/don't you?
I tend to buy only female as they require more attention in my opinion. I do all the face-ups and final detailing myself and there's just less to do with male dolls. It doesn't have the same feeling of accomplishment.

If you do, would you consider ever buying the opposite gender of doll?
If I had more disposable income, I definitely would. Like other people have mentioned in this thread, I tend to have characters in mind before I buy the doll and I have plenty of male characters to choose from.

Does the sex of a doll make them more appealing to you?
      Arisha already said it best

Would you ever buy a head of the opposite sex to use on the doll (maybe because it looks like the opposite gender)?
I haven't really thought about it, to be honest. I wouldn't discount the idea until I saw it in practice though.

    20. I like them both the same but sometimes girls interest me more but that also varies companies
