ONLY buying Male & ONLY buying Female Dolls

Jun 9, 2010

    1. *Do you only buy one sex of doll? Why do/don't you?
I don't have any right now but by what I am saving to buy I can see what you mean. I have realized I am mostly saving for girls cause I usually like their dresses, sculpts, and face ups. I think also its cause I have a lot of guy friends and not as many girl friends so I believe that is why I would be getting girls first :).

*If you do, would you consider ever buying the opposite gender of doll?
Of course! ^_^ I have one or two in mind that I can get of that are male. Mostly there are petite boys but I still find them very cute and want them as part of my collection someday :)!

*Does the sex of a doll make them more appealing to you?
I really dunno....I mainly go with girls cause I really like their dresses as I have stated up above plus I can see myself having more daughters than I would with sons. Is that so wrong? :P

*Would you ever buy a head of the opposite sex to use on the doll (maybe because it looks like the opposite gender)?
No :) if it wasn't suppos to be then it wasn't. I would never do that to my poor dolls.

Very interesting topic. Thank you for making this thread! :D

    2. Do you only buy one sex of doll? Why do/don't you?
I buy both males and females, mostly because I like to pair them into couples.

If you do, would you consider ever buying the opposite gender of doll?
      N/A

Does the sex of a doll make them more appealing to you?
Not particularly. I go on a sculpt-by-sculpt basis. Though I do find certain companies I like a gender of their sculpts better overall due to style. For example, I like more of Soom's female face sculpts than I do of their males.

Would you ever buy a head of the opposite sex to use on the doll (maybe because it looks like the opposite gender)?
Yes. I currently have 3 male heads that seem more feminine to me, so one is already on a female body and the other two will be when I can afford to do so.

    3. Do you only buy one sex of doll? Why do/don't you?

I have boy SDs, not much into MSDs and both sexes for Yo-SD. My storyline I've chosen to "mold" into dolls doesn't have any adult females in it.

If you do, would you consider ever buying the opposite gender of doll?

I would but if she's a big girl she had better be the most amazing female doll to ever exist, as I would buy her just to own her and look at her. She would have no place with my current doll family.

Does the sex of a doll make them more appealing to you?

I actually think all blank doll heads can be male or female (Yes, even Akando, there are all kinds of people in this world), it just depends on what you are looking for.

Would you ever buy a head of the opposite sex to use on the doll (maybe because it looks like the opposite gender)?

As I said before, they all look like they could be either to me. I personally am more particular about the lips, eye shape, how strong the jaw is or how delicate the nose is.

    4. Do you only buy one sex of doll? Why do/don't you?

Yep, girls xD I just find them really pretty.

If you do, would you consider ever buying the opposite gender of doll?

Yeah, someday I plan to have a male doll

Does the sex of a doll make them more appealing to you?

      Sometimes :3

Would you ever buy a head of the opposite sex to use on the doll (maybe because it looks like the opposite gender)?

I don't do hybrids, so no xDDD (but if I had a floating head, sure)

    5. Do you only buy one sex of doll? Why do/don't you?
So far I only have a female doll and so far she is all I want right now.
If you do, would you consider ever buying the opposite gender of doll?
Possibly if the body type appealed to me.
Does the sex of a doll make them more appealing to you?
Being a guy... yea a female doll defiantly has more appeal to me right now than a male doll.
Would you ever buy a head of the opposite sex to use on the doll (maybe because it looks like the opposite gender)? For my current doll I almost did mainly for the big eyes though I was able to find a female head that stood out to me more.

    6. Do you only buy one sex of doll? Why do/don't you?

So far yes, I'm only buying female dolls. It's not that I don't like male dolls, because there are lots of them that I do really admire, but when I think about actually owning one and having to dress it I'm suddenly not sure what to do! I have no clue at all when it comes to male fashion/style. I just have so many ideas for the girls!

I also sort of have a problem with most of the male dolls... not the faces but the bodies. They're either SUPER muscular or too feminine. I'd like something in between (and Minifee sized!)

If you do, would you consider ever buying the opposite gender of doll?

I really like the idea of couples photos so I'll be sure to get a male doll if I ever find the perfect one!

Does the sex of a doll make them more appealing to you?

Sort of yes, I really do like girly things so I'm more drawn to female dolls.

Would you ever buy a head of the opposite sex to use on the doll (maybe because it looks like the opposite gender)?

If it made sense to me I would, but there are so many pretty girls that are supposed to be girls that I love that I don't see myself going out of my way to look for girly boy faces XD

    7. Do you only buy one sex of doll? Why do/don't you?
Nope. I THOUGHT it was going to be that way. XD I found my first SD male and was ecstatic, I didn't even have him home before I saw an MSD female and nabbed her. 8c she was sssssssooooooo cute <333

If you do, would you consider ever buying the opposite gender of doll?
      N/A

Does the sex of a doll make them more appealing to you?
I will say I tend to like and look for either Adult SD MANLY looking men or cutesy girls. xD Though my dolls don't seem to reflect that. (Dolls: Kui chicang yi, Blue Fairy Sarang, Blue Fairy Nikki, Angel Region Nell(with boy face up on a Mature Female body) and Bobobie March in green. )

Would you ever buy a head of the opposite sex to use on the doll (maybe because it looks like the opposite gender)?

LOL, already done. And why not? MANY companies even offer it their heads with either face-up and many are starting to allow you to choose between male and female body types.

    8. Do you only buy one sex of doll? Why do/don't you?
No. I'm buying both male and female. I feel most attracted by male sculpts but I dont see myself having only one gender. My first BJD is a girl and my second a guy... and I'm planning to buy another couple soon. ;)

If you do, would you consider ever buying the opposite gender of doll?
      ----------x----------
Does the sex of a doll make them more appealing to you?
I feel more attracted by the guys, but I see no point on having only one gender for me. I'm too picky with the girls thats why... but I love them, I love changing clothes and trying hairdos and all girly stuff.

Would you ever buy a head of the opposite sex to use on the doll (maybe because it looks like the opposite gender)?
I never did and I dont think one day I'll buy a head only, but sure... I have seen many male sculpts that would make incredibly beautiful girls!

    9. Do you only buy one sex of doll? Why do/don't you?
So far I only bought male dolls... But not because I planned it that way.

If you do, would you consider ever buying the opposite gender of doll?
Yes! I was planning to buy a girl when I bought my last (3rd) boy. He is just a sculpt I love and the opportunity came up... And I have a hard time deciding on a girl that's just right for me.

Does the sex of a doll make them more appealing to you?
Yes - the boys are lovelier to me. But there are a lot of very pretty girls out there too! :)

Would you ever buy a head of the opposite sex to use on the doll (maybe because it looks like the opposite gender)?
I never did, but I don't see why not, if I ever "grow into" buying non-complete dolls.

    10. Do you only buy one sex of doll? Why do/don't you?
not intentionally but at the moment I have 5 girls, 1 boy and 3 more girls on the way. I think I just have more characters that are girls that I am trying to recreate, I had 5 original girls sketched out and then I added 2 boys after that...

If you do, would you consider ever buying the opposite gender of doll?
only have one boy, but am definitely getting several more, ordering one tonight in fact :o) after that I have 3 more boys planned

Does the sex of a doll make them more appealing to you?
yes and no. I really, really want to get a dollfie dream dynamite, because I find the body very appealing, and I think there are just more cuter girl molds out there than boys. Usually it is just a matter of the sculpt over the gender, unless I have a specific character in mind then its definitely gender.
Would you ever buy a head of the opposite sex to use on the doll (maybe because it looks like the opposite gender)?
absolutely...I just bought one several days ago because I like the eye shap of the boy head for one of my girl characters, their is also another one of my girl dolls that will have a boy head as well.

    11. Do you only buy one sex of doll? Why do/don't you?
Yes, Most female molds/bodies simply don't appeal to me, or seem unproportional/unreal. Also, I buy dolls for pre existing characters, and I have very few strong females.

If you do, would you consider ever buying the opposite gender of doll?
As long as it fits my character, yes.

Does the sex of a doll make them more appealing to you?
Yes. The representation of the female body most companies do annoys me.

Would you ever buy a head of the opposite sex to use on the doll (maybe because it looks like the opposite gender)?
      Surely will happen =3

    12. Do you only buy one sex of doll? Why do/don't you?
So far, yes. I'd say there's a pretty even split between my female and male characters, but I suppose there are more female sculpts that are appealing to me than there are male sculpts, so I've only bought girls so far. I am picky about sculpts for my guys hehe.

If you do, would you consider ever buying the opposite gender of doll?
If I ever find a suitable sculpt, absolutely.

Does the sex of a doll make them more appealing to you?
If I'm going for a particular character, then yes. I find I prefer more female sculpts than male sculpts, mostly because I have the same problem as karrigankat with most guy sculpts either being a bit too feminine or a bit too muscular.

Would you ever buy a head of the opposite sex to use on the doll (maybe because it looks like the opposite gender)?
Probably not. I feel like I'd be more than capable of finding a suitable girl head for a girl character and it wouldn't be necessary for me to look at guy heads for a girl character too.

    13. Do you only buy one sex of doll? Why do/don't you?
Yes, only buying girls at this time. A few reasons...one of them...I'm not ready to have a male doll
      in my life just yet.
If you do, would you consider ever buying the opposite gender of doll?
yes, I like them, just not ready for them yet.
Does the sex of a doll make them more appealing to you?
well, you can dress a girl in more variety, and accessories than a boy.
Would you ever buy a head of the opposite sex to use on the doll (maybe because it looks like the opposite gender)?
yes, and this is easy to do with Elf sculpts. :-)

    14. Do you only buy one sex of doll? Why do/don't you?
so far i only have girls. i haven't found any boys that appealed enough to spend the money on them.

If you do, would you consider ever buying the opposite gender of doll?
if i found one i really liked sure

Does the sex of a doll make them more appealing to you?
yes. i buy mine mainly to make clothes for them and find it far more interesting to make girls clothes.

Would you ever buy a head of the opposite sex to use on the doll. my first doll was a male head that i loved but thought looked really girly so i bought a female body to put it on.

    15. Do you only buy one sex of doll? Why do/don't you?

For now, yes, I just buy one sex doll, male.
Why? well... it's just because I like male than female, and actually, I haven't found female doll that make me want to buy them.

If you do, would you consider ever buying the opposite gender of doll?

Yes I do, if I found the doll I want.

Does the sex of a doll make them more appealing to you?

      yes, it does.

Would you ever buy a head of the opposite sex to use on the doll (maybe because it looks like the opposite gender)?

      yep.
even I haven't done it.... or maybe have done it. but I'd consider this point :)

    16. Do you only buy one sex of doll? Why do/don't you?
No. I like boy dolls. But I like dresses more. Boys just don't have the figure for it. Also women's fashion is simply more varied and versatile.

Does the sex of a doll make them more appealing to you?
Different appeals with different gender sculpts.

Would you ever buy a head of the opposite sex to use on the doll (maybe because it looks like the opposite gender)?
      Already done. Traps be trapping.

    17. Do you only buy one sex of doll? Why do/don't you?
Yes, I only buy female DDs. I don't really like the looks of male dolls(they don't make male DDs anyway lol). I'm partial to females so my dolls stay female.

If you do, would you consider ever buying the opposite gender of doll?
Nope, unless Volks makes a DD Sebastian.

Does the sex of a doll make them more appealing to you?
Yes. I have to say that I am a DD fan and they represent females characters that I like. Now if Volks made a DD Sebastian, I "might" be tempted to get him but I doubt they will make any males in the DD line.

Would you ever buy a head of the opposite sex to use on the doll (maybe because it looks like the opposite gender)?
I don't think Volks makes a male DD head so until they do it cannot happen XD

    18. Do you only buy one sex of doll? Why do/don't you?
Well, I'm saving up for a female (my first), but after that (yes, I'm getting ahead of myself) I want two guys. So it depends. I'm better at drawing females, so characters I draw end up being female, but characters I imagine are often male (probably because I'm attracted to them? lol)

Does the sex of a doll make them more appealing to you?
Not really. Just their face. A lot of the girls' faces are creepily... anime-esque or have large eyes, so maybe to some extent.

Would you ever buy a head of the opposite sex to use on the doll (maybe because it looks like the opposite gender)?
Looking at my last response, yes. I don't like a lot of female heads, so I'd definitely use a guy head. Or maybe vice-versa, but that's not as likely. A lot of the guys are somewhat effeminate though.

    19. Do you only buy one sex of doll? Why do/don't you?
I like females since I was 12 , It feels weird (not gay) to buy something male especially since its art.
I dont really like most males personally and I cant tell you just why , Im not sexist , I just prefer females.

If you do, would you consider ever buying the opposite gender of doll?
I would buy a guy doll for the purpose of a complete set ,like Fran and Baltheir (FFXII)

Does the sex of a doll make them more appealing to you?
      YES

Would you ever buy a head of the opposite sex to use on the doll (maybe because it looks like the opposite gender)?
Yes if it was what im looking for it would do just fine!

    20. I am probably no exception to "the norm" in my category, but here are my answers:

Do you only buy one sex of doll? Why do/don't you?
Right now yes,I tend to buy exclusively girl dolls. It's not that I find anything wrong with the boys or anything, I just prefer to sew dresses, and don't want to put boys in dresses :D I was honestly surprised to find out that so many people only buy boys, compared to the people that only buy girls.

If you do, would you consider ever buying the opposite gender of doll?
I definitely will. I am working on that list. I tend to like more manly looking male dolls, and those are few in the hobby in my humble opinion, so I have picked out the 2 SD men I want (60 and 70cm range), and the YoSD boy I want, and have my first Puki boy on his way as we speak, but I am having a hard time finding an MSD boy I really like. I think I'd have a problem if everyone thinks my boys are girls :D lol

Does the sex of a doll make them more appealing to you?
Not really the sex per se, but I can't make suits or pants that well, and don't find them as much fun YET, and honestly, I find a lot of the girl sculpts more appealing.

Would you ever buy a head of the opposite sex to use on the doll (maybe because it looks like the opposite gender)?
Don't think so. I like too many of the girls as it is to consider buying boy heads to put on girls bodies. That and I don't want to have heads floating all over the place. I have one practice head and it's a pain to know at all times where it's at since it's not attached to a doll :D

So right now I have a Puki boy on the way. My first boy doll :D I don't know if that counts because it's a tiny, but he's my boy :D Out of the list I had to work on for my last order, I wanted to get the girls first, and I was going to get at least one of the SD or an MSD boy, but an SD girl got in the way and bewitched me into buying her instead, so the boys have to wait.
Eventually I want everyone to have their "counterpart" boy in the bigger sizes. One little couple of each. The Pukis. Well. That's another story. I have a big house for them to fill, so we'll see how that works. AND buying boy clothes for tinies is a lot cheaper :D
