ONLY buying Male & ONLY buying Female Dolls

Jun 9, 2010

    1. Do you only buy one sex of doll? Why do/don't you? yes. i find the male dolls far more aesthetically pleasing than females. i love male fashion and the possibilities that i could use with it.

If you do, would you consider ever buying the opposite gender of doll? i acually came upon to molds that i liked the other day. they were absolutely beautiful, so i took a note of them. however i still planning on buying a boy first :)

Does the sex of a doll make them more appealing to you? yes. i am more taken with the male form than the females. i believe i'm more strict when i look at the female dolls. i could find many sculpts of boys on a site that i would want to buy, but only like one of the girls.

Would you ever buy a head of the opposite sex to use on the doll? yes!! already considered it. ill gladly jump on the gender-bender wagon. i listen to a genre of music, where the look is androgenous, and especially for the more cuter side, a female head may be needed to show a softer look i may want for my BJD.

    2. Do you only buy one sex of doll? Why do/don't you? I do, I tend to buy girls because i find their sculpts more appealing.

If you do, would you consider ever buying the opposite gender of doll?
Maybe if there was a scupt that i fell in love with

Does the sex of a doll make them more appealing to you?
Yes, i luv how sassy or innocent a girl doll can be

Would you ever buy a head of the opposite sex to use on the doll (maybe because it looks like the opposite gender)? Most boy sculpts i've seen and liked have been very girly, but instead of saying oh thats a pretty boy I would think oh he would make a lovely girl.

    3. Do you only buy one sex of doll? Why do/don't you?
So far, I've only a male, and only plan on buying males. There is one or two girls I will end up buying, but the majority will be men. But the men I like are girlish(save a few)

If you do, would you consider ever buying the opposite gender of doll?
      Yes

Does the sex of a doll make them more appealing to you?
No.. Well. Yes, there are only a few girl dolls I actually like.

Would you ever buy a head of the opposite sex to use on the doll (maybe because it looks like the opposite gender)?
      Yes.

    4. Do you only buy one sex of doll? Why do/don't you?
I haven't actually GOTTEN my first doll yet, but I have a feeling that I'm going to get mostly guys... LOL. For as long as I can remember I've been the same way with OCs, almost all of my OCs have been guys and I guess I just cant come up with good personalities with girls as well.

If you do, would you consider ever buying the opposite gender of doll?
I'll probably get like, one, eventually, so I can dress her up in frilly lolita things for a more traditional "doll" if you know what I mean.

Does the sex of a doll make them more appealing to you?
Yes, well, I can't think of a better way to say this, but since I find guys more attractive I'm going to enjoy looking at guy dolls more lol

Would you ever buy a head of the opposite sex to use on the doll (maybe because it looks like the opposite gender)?
If the occasion ever arose. I think the doll should look its best, regardless of its original purpose/gender.

    5. Do you only buy one sex of doll? Why do/don't you?
Nope. I have an SD girl, tiny girl, and SD boy. I got the girl first even though the boy was my dream doll and I could afford him instead of her, though, because I find girls far more interesting to design and sew for. Sewing for a boy is a lot of fun too, but I find them to be far more limited in design choices. To me, boys' fashion depends more on various fabrics than patterns, whereas there's soooo much I can make for my girls. It also comes down to my boy's specific personality and style, though.

If you do, would you consider ever buying the opposite gender of doll?
Sure! I may be more drawn to female sculpts, but there are a lot of male sculpts I love too. In fact, there are several more males and females both I'd love to have in my doll family.

Does the sex of a doll make them more appealing to you?
I guess it kind of does. Not because of aesthetics necessarily, but again because I find females easier to design for. Though...if I were to get an MSD, which I don't have yet, I'd get female first. But if I were to get one of the larger SDs, it would most definitely be a male. I bet one of those would be funnnnn to sew for. x3

Would you ever buy a head of the opposite sex to use on the doll (maybe because it looks like the opposite gender)?
As long as it wouldn't take any kind of modification, blushing, or difficulty to make it work, yes. Generally I just like the doll for what it is.

    6. Do you only buy one sex of doll? Why do/don't you?
So far I only have one doll and its a female model, eventually down the road (I mean way down the road) I will pick up another which will probably be a female. The reason for this is quite simple for me. I have not found a male doll body I like, the male dolls for me just aren't pleasing but then again that's my own opinion.
If you do, would you consider ever buying the opposite gender of doll?
      No
Does the sex of a doll make them more appealing to you?
      Yes
Would you ever buy a head of the opposite sex to use on the doll (maybe because it looks like the opposite gender)?
Again this is an easy question to answer for know, no I have not seen any male heads I like.

    7. I had never really thought of this question, but it amuses me-- I, inadvertently, only own female dolls at this time.

Do you only buy one sex of doll? Why do/don't you?

Honestly, I buy for my characters. The most important and personal of them happen to be female.

If you do, would you consider ever buying the opposite gender of doll?

Of course-- however, my standard for male dolls is very high. I'm not really a huge fan of 'pretty boys'. I believe men should be handsome, and masculine. It's a personal, aesthetics-thing. That being said, most of the male dolls are the market lean more towards 'pretty', than 'manly'. Which is unappealing to me, unless the specific character I have in mind goes that way.

Does the sex of a doll make them more appealing to you?

Some of my personal preferences do persuade that, yes. I'm a lesbian; I will always look at a woman before I do a man. This is not to say I don't appreciate masculine beauty-- because I very surely do-- but women catch my attention quicker.
Another point, as an artist, the female form is much more pleasing to the eye. Men are, largely, a straight line from shoulder to hip. Women have an elegant curvature, and are therefore more photogenic and fun to paint/draw, whathaveyou.

Would you ever buy a head of the opposite sex to use on the doll (maybe because it looks like the opposite gender)?

Oh hell yes. I actually considered hybridizing my current order-- some of the more masculine heads fit the character quite well.

    8. Do you only buy one sex of doll? Why do/don't you?
It happened so that my first jointed doll (not BJD but Pullip) was female. My first BJD was female. Dolls that I'm going to buy soon are females. Dream dolls are females. I can't say I hate men, just I lay my eyes only I girls, that's how it is.

If you do, would you consider ever buying the opposite gender of doll?
I have seen thousands of male BJD all over the net, I fell in love only with one from Crobi, but If I was asked to choose between him and my other dream-girl, I would choose the second variant. But maybe one time he will join my family

Does the sex of a doll make them more appealing to you?
Yes. Moreover, I find it hard even to "chat" with male BJD and I can't imagine one living in my flat

Would you ever buy a head of the opposite sex to use on the doll (maybe because it looks like the opposite gender)?
Yes, it happened a lot of times when I looked at a new mold and thought "What a pretty girl she is!", when I read he has a boy body I was quite disappointed :|

    9. Do you only buy one sex of doll? Why do/don't you?
Yes, I only buy girl dolls to keep. Girls can wear pants or dresses, boyish or girlish clothing while to me boy dolls can only wear boyish clothes because I wouldn't feel right cross-dressing my boy dolls and still calling them 'he'. That and I am a BIG fan of lolita dresses and otherwise frilly and lace-covered dresses.

If you do, would you consider ever buying the opposite gender of doll?
Yes, I have bought both boy and girl dolls in the past, but it seems the boy dolls don't stay long because I feel limited by their wardrobes. It's the Ken ordeal all over again! (Ken, as in from Barbie & Ken, used to only ever come with a tux or a swim suit). These days, I only buy and keep girl dolls.

Does the sex of a doll make them more appealing to you?
In a way, I suppose so. I am enchanted more by beautiful girls in lace dresses than anything else.

Would you ever buy a head of the opposite sex to use on the doll (maybe because it looks like the opposite gender)?
Yes, I absolutely would! I can name a few male dolls I like the head of and I think would look great as a female doll. If I had the money, I would be likely to get them and swap out the bodies for it.

    10. Do you only buy one sex of doll? Why do/don't you?
No, I'll buy both males and females. I don't really have a reason, I just will!I create characters of both genders, a world with only one gender would be strange and impossible.

If you do, would you consider ever buying the opposite gender of doll?
      n/a

Does the sex of a doll make them more appealing to you?
No! If I see a sculpt I like, it doesn't matter to me if they're male or female. I love the beauty of both the male and female form.

Would you ever buy a head of the opposite sex to use on the doll (maybe because it looks like the opposite gender)?
No, if the company feels that a certain head is a masculine one, I don't feel right putting it on a female body or visa versa. I don't actively object, but it's something I find a tad weird and personally wouldn't do. If I had a doll like that, whenever I looked at them I'd have that thought in the back of my head that it's a female head on a male body or visa versa. It would start to bug me and would drive me crazy.
A lot of the time the sculpts give obvious signs of being of a certain gender. A male head would have a lower brow, wider jaw, thinner lips, just general things that are masculine, and I think it would look strange on a female body.Even more 'masculine' women don't look like men.But then I suppose it does depend on the sculpt. As a general sort of rule that i've noticed, MSD that are male tend to look more childlike and pubescent and slightly more feminine, but SD size male dolls have more chiselled manly features.Still, I couldn't do it.

    11. Do you only buy one sex of doll? Why do/don't you?
So far I have only gotten boys...I don't like many female sculpts. technically I have a bobobie tiny "girl" but the character is male and the only difference between the male and female versions is one has a penis (which isn't visible with clothes on). All of my homemade dolls that have been completed to casting have been listed male though they have no gender specific features (two new ones however are down as girls but they're animals)

If you do, would you consider ever buying the opposite gender of doll?
Never thought I would until Iplehouse's Tatiana...who's now on her way here

Does the sex of a doll make them more appealing to you?
I typically like mature male sculpts, I find many of the female sculpts are to "young" for me

Would you ever buy a head of the opposite sex to use on the doll (maybe because it looks like the opposite gender)?
I wouldn't let the posted gender of a sculpt determine what gender the character it ends up as...so yes...

    12. Do you only buy one sex of doll? Why do/don't you? Completely honestly, when I started looking at bjds, the thought actually crossed my mind "Why do they even make female ones?" ~GASP!~ I know, in retrospect that is dreadful! Then when I started showing the dolls to my sister she expressed that she had no interest whatsoever in the male dolls, I then thought "What the heck is going on here?" I don't know exactly what it is that I like so much about the male dolls, if you buy dolls to create a perfect expression of beauty according to you, maybe it's a celebration of the male form? It probably comes from the same mind space as being a fan of shōnen-ai. I see no problem in dressing the boy as a girl either, so I can still enjoy frilly dresses.

If you do, would you consider ever buying the opposite gender of doll? At the moment I wouldn't be able to justify buying a female ball joint doll. I still look at photos of them and I appreciate the beauty, but it's not for me, I wouldn't be able to care for it the same way.

Does the sex of a doll make them more appealing to you? Definitely! It's interesting if you buy the base of a doll and the sex is basically where you start from. It's sort of one of the only things that's fixed.

Would you ever buy a head of the opposite sex to use on the doll (maybe because it looks like the opposite gender)? There would always be the niggling feeling in the back of my head that the doll wanted to be a girl despite me making it into a pretty man, and I'd probably feel sorry for it and end up wanting to buy the female body for it out of sympathy. I've actually looked at several dolls and thought "that face is perfect!" Then realised that it came with a female body.

    13. Do you only buy one sex of doll? Why do/don't you?I chose females! Because I love dressing them, since my body just doesn't look good in some of those cute frilly things.. Also clothes and makeup, I don't do that to myself, so I enjoy doing that artistry on my doll. I'm not into males that much probably because I'm not a human guy watcher either. It's not like I 'check' out girls either, but I enjoy female clothes, make up, and generally the artistry of women.. I know men can be as well.. but They are so broad? So I tend to look at accessories.. fashiony things <3 This was probably a very hard question for me haha-)

If you do, would you consider ever buying the opposite gender of doll? possibly but one that is more femnine possibly?

Does the sex of a doll make them more appealing to you? I think so because of body shape and the type of clothes that fit on the frame.

Would you ever buy a head of the opposite sex to use on the doll (maybe because it looks like the opposite gender)? Yes. Some male heads are so pretty :) Especially with the right face up!

    14. Do you only buy one sex of doll? Why do/don't you?
I'm extremely particular about boy sculpts. It is usually much much easier for me to find girl sculpts that I like than boy sculpts. My biggest problem is that I like MSD size best, and the male sculpts in that size tend to look like little boys and I feel really weird thinking about owning a little boy to be a boyfriend for a more mature looking girl. There are more SD range boys that I like, and eventually I will own a couple of those.

If you do, would you consider ever buying the opposite gender of doll?
Yes. Im just too picky. I prefer MSD both for price and size, and there are almost no male sculpts that I like. Granted, a couple fairyland boys are starting to grow on me, but for every MSD male I like there are four females I want more...

Does the sex of a doll make them more appealing to you?
Yes. I love the curve of the female form, and it's my favorite to draw and paint. Thusly, all my girl dolls have to be busty (or moderately so), with definite feminine qualities and features, rounded hips, and soft bellies. I like the bodies for Fairyland MSD boys though too, just not as well as compared to a girl body.

Would you ever buy a head of the opposite sex to use on the doll (maybe because it looks like the opposite gender)?
I've thought about it. For example, I adore FL Woosoo girl vampire, because I think she looks more mature than the boy Woosoo vampire. He's got these chubby little baby cheeks which just so don't do it for me.....so I'd consider using the girl head on the boy body and the boy head on a girl body.

In short, I wish someone made MSD boys that looked mature enough to be with the girls in their size ranges, and that their bodies are also mature.

    15. Do you only buy one sex of doll? Why do/don't you?
I've bought both. I have sold 23 dolls, the overwhelming majority of which were male, during the last several years. Only recently have I thought that it's not just me being fickle. Maybe I just don't like male dolls?

My current doll collection includes 2 girls, one girl on layaway, and saving for my first SD girl. One boy! But one of those girls is his wife and another is his daughter, so that's that.

If you do, would you consider ever buying the opposite gender of doll?
      I've got a male Minimee head on the way (ordered in Oct), so I guess I'll see if that works out. If the last 4 male character Minimees are an indication? It won't. Buying another was most likely a mistake. ^.^;

Does the sex of a doll make them more appealing to you?
      Girls just appeal to me more, apparently. ^.^;

Would you ever buy a head of the opposite sex to use on the doll (maybe because it looks like the opposite gender)?
Sure! Plenty of sculpts look asexual or androgynous enough to work well either way.

    16. Do you only buy one sex of doll? Why do/don't you?
Nope, i have both a boy and a girl. another boy on the way and the boyfriend has a girl.

Does the sex of a doll make them more appealing to you?
Yes? What i'm really about is being able to try on all different styles of clothes, and some styles are meant for boys and others for girls. I'm buying another boy almost simply for the fact that my current boy can only pull off certain styles.

Would you ever buy a head of the opposite sex to use on the doll (maybe because it looks like the opposite gender)?
Definitely yes. A lot of these sculpts can go either gender really, for instance dollzone's MO has been a lot of boys and girls.

For me I think I like to end up with an even amount of boys and girls but I usually gawk at boys more often, especially since this is like the only market with a considerable amount of boy dolls (unlike mass produced dolls).

    17. Do you only buy one sex of doll? Why do/don't you? Yes, because I don't really like how most of the girldolls look. I already got tired of playing with barbie when I was small and I want to "play" or take cera of a decent guy instead. :)

If you do, would you consider ever buying the opposite gender of doll?
If she was really beautiful that she makes me fall in love with her!

Does the sex of a doll make them more appealing to you?
      Yup, definitely.

Would you ever buy a head of the opposite sex to use on the doll (maybe because it looks like the opposite gender)?
I've seen some beautiful mods, guy bodies with girl heads and they made me want to try it out once. not because they look girlish.

    18. Do you only buy one sex of doll? Why do/don't you?
Yes, I only buy male dolls because I'm not interested in/attracted to the female body.

If you do, would you consider ever buying the opposite gender of doll?
I think not, a female doll just does not match my personal definition of beauty.

Does the sex of a doll make them more appealing to you?
      Definitely

Would you ever buy a head of the opposite sex to use on the doll (maybe because it looks like the opposite gender)?
Yes, I would do that^^ especially as I love androgyny so I can imagine it could fit

    19. Do you only buy one sex of doll? Why do/don't you?
i only have girls. this is partially because my dolls shell characters in stories i'm writing(and i have more female than male), and because i don't find male bjd fit the male characters i do have.
If you do, would you consider ever buying the opposite gender of doll?
if they make a body that isn't either complete muscles or total wimps, but average jo, perhaps. but i'm incredibly picky about faces too.
Does the sex of a doll make them more appealing to you?
at first, the female was more approachable-how weird is it to have an anatomically correct male doll around? but now i just don't really like them as much.
Would you ever buy a head of the opposite sex to use on the doll (maybe because it looks like the opposite gender)?
i have one girl who is fairly androgenous/masculine, and i've found the female head she came with embodies it well enough.

    20. Do you only buy one sex of doll? Why do/don't you?
I buy dolls that are both sexes. i currently have two boys and two girls. I buy them because I have both male and female characters that I want to make into dolls. I find it easier to find female dolls I like more than males. This is mostly because I only like MSD dolls and there's not many manly MSDs.

Does the sex of a doll make them more appealing to you?
Well, yes. I wouldn't buy a female doll to be a male character and vice versa.

Would you ever buy a head of the opposite sex to use on the doll (maybe because it looks like the opposite gender)?
Sure. I have no problem with head swapping regardless of the doll head's gender. If it looks like it would suit the character and the other sex it works for me. I don't have any like that, but I'm totally open to the idea.
