ONLY buying Male & ONLY buying Female Dolls

Jun 9, 2010

    1. Do you only buy one sex of doll? Why do/don't you?
All boys. Because I've never managed to create or narrate a believable female character. Also, I am a girl. Why do I need a girl doll? I've never wanted dolls or characters of my own gender. I'm much more comfortable playing with boys. XD Plus, wee resin penises!

If you do, would you consider ever buying the opposite gender of doll?
No, not really. I have absolutely not interest in a female doll. I've seen their bodies and they just don't interest me. The closest I've come to wanting a girl doll is going 'oh my g-d! that boy is SO CUTE oh wait it's a girl D:'. Otherwise, I don't even tend to like most of the girls... Except for the eyes. All the girls have such big eyes! I love big eyes!

Does the sex of a doll make them more appealing to you?
Yes. Just... yes. XD Simple as that.

Would you ever buy a head of the opposite sex to use on the doll (maybe because it looks like the opposite gender)?
I hope to do this someday, actually. Specially the Iple JID Asa head. For some reason, that head is just the -perfect- little boy to me. I want to do so desperately. Dunno if I ever will, but it'd be awesome! In fact, I look at all heads and wonder if they would make a good boy. The biggest problem for me is that the neck sizes are often different, so buying a 1/3 girl's head for a 1/3 boy's body can be an adventure. I want to, though! So badly! There are quite a few girl dolls that I think would make lovely boys.

    2. Do you only buy one sex of doll? Why do/don't you?
For now, yes. The only dolls I want are male. I prefer the male dolls to females. I like the freedom I get with them. With a female, the size of the breast kinds limits you, to form-fitted female clothing, but males can wear both male and female clothing.

If you do, would you consider ever buying the opposite gender of doll?
I do~ I was thinking about getting a little girl (26 or 45 cm) as my third doll, after I get a Ringdoll Don. I thought it would be cute for Eunhwa (my fist doll) to have a little sister~

Does the sex of a doll make them more appealing to you?
Like I said, yes. Boys are more androgynous then most girls out there. If I would get a girl, she'd be somewhat flat-chested, or at least have smaller breasts. Also, I just like boys better than girls in general~

Would you ever buy a head of the opposite sex to use on the doll (maybe because it looks like the opposite gender)?
Hmm... It depends on the head I guess. If I was really set on that head, then yes. But I'm pretty satisfied with the male heads I've seen. I've never found a female head I want on a male body~

~A funny story to relate to this, I was looking up girls for a sister for Eunhwa, and I found one on Dollzone that I thought would be perfect. So as I was going through the photos they had of the doll, I realized 'she' was a 'he'! The doll I was looking at was Mo, and I adore him ^^ I'm thinking of actually getting him and having him as a crossdresser or transgender~

    3. Do you only buy one sex of doll? Why do/don't you?
Yes. I only buy males~ [well, I only plan on buying males... haven't gotten any yet ;) ]
I love males [!] and I really haven't found any females that I can absolutely fall in love with. There's always a flaw somewhere [conflicting with my tastes], especially in the face. Bodies are just as hard, literally! I've always seen the ideal girl body to be soft and jelly-like. The hard resin is contradictory to this... especially the breasts... and then there's the matter of height, joints, breasts, feet, hands, details... Also I have yet to find a girl that is plumper [curves] but young and still on the slimmer side while not being short.
I do plan on making a gender neutral hybrid, though.

If you do, would you consider ever buying the opposite gender of doll?
      n/a
But, I do WANT to. Just have to find the perfect one out there.

Does the sex of a doll make them more appealing to you?
Yes. I find male dolls more attractive.
I desire girl dolls, but please also see the answer to the first question.

Would you ever buy a head of the opposite sex to use on the doll (maybe because it looks like the opposite gender)?
      Yes. But only male head-->female.
I plan on making a gender neutral doll. [Crobidoll Jun head].
I'd also like a Rickydoll Helios female too!

    4. Do you buy one sex of doll? Why do/don't you?
Hum, I prefer male bjd ^^". Somehow, I looove females sculpts, but I don't see them at home ><' [also cuz I like yaoi.. -cough, cough-] I've already bought girls! but I can't bond with them (I reselled the first one and modded the second, teehe.)

If you do would you consider ever buying the opposite gender of doll?
Yes I do! I would like to have one girl to make her wearing ribbons and dresses... ^_^

Does the sex of a doll make them more appealing to you
Duh.. Mostly of my dolls are selling head by head (not complete) so it's my choice to make it a girl or a boy.. I don't really care about company's photos and gender (if it's a male or a female, idk.) I do what I want with the doll I'm planning to buy.

Would you ever buy a head of the opposite sex to use on the doll (maybe because it looks like the opposite gender)?

Eeer... Yes I did XD I modded my Zaoll girl to boy.. And I'm planning to redo it with another Zaoll ^_^"

    5. Do you only buy one sex of doll? Why do/don't you?

At the moment, I only own one doll, of which is male, and my wish list is generally boy dolls. I don't know why, but I just seem to bond better to males than females. I'm like that with most things though; characters, in drawing and art, other sorts of dolls and figurines. I just generally prefer boys over girls. owo

If you do, would you consider ever buying the opposite gender of doll?

For the most part, probably not. I really don't have much interest in girls. I'm always going to prefer boys over girls when it comes to dolls, just because I bond better to them, as well as for the most part all my characters are male, and I have a lot of characters I'd like to make into doll form. At the moment, there's only one girl doll that's captured my attention, and even she's way down towards the bottom of my list, and I'd prefer her to have a male body.

Does the sex of a doll make them more appealing to you?

Most definitely. There's been so many times I've though "Ooh, he's so cute! <3" Only to realize "he" is a she. Then my interest pretty much dies out and I move on. And if I really like the doll, I just consider modding it into a male or putting it on a male body.

Would you ever buy a head of the opposite sex to use on the doll (maybe because it looks like the opposite gender)?

I've considered it plenty many times, and I have no problem with doing it. owo There's quite a few female molds that I'll probably buy the heads of down the line to make into male dolls. I prefer feminine boys for the most part, so there's definitely a lot of girls I think would make fantastic boys. <3 Even the only girl on my wishlist I'll probably end up putting on a male body in the end.

    6. Okay. Here I go:

Do you only buy one sex of doll? Why do/don't you?
No. But a BIG majority of my dolls are male (8 out of 10). Out of the 2 females I have, only 1 is an adult, which is my preference for BJDs. Its funny, because when I first got into the hobby, I thought I would have more female than male BJDs, but its the opposite.

If you do, would you consider ever buying the opposite gender of doll?
Yes. I would like to have more female dolls to even out the male dolls I have. But I think I'm very picky when it comes to the appearance of female BJDs, which is why I only have one adult female.

Does the sex of a doll make them more appealing to you?
I think it does. I am female, but the vast majority of my dolls are male. They're HAWT! I likes my boys with all their muscles!

Would you ever buy a head of the opposite sex to use on the doll (maybe because it looks like the opposite gender)?

My mom and I decided that we wanted to do male and female twins. But in order to do that, we pretty much had to get the same head sculpt and similar faces ups. Well, I had always wanted a Migidoll Ryu, so I figured, "Why not try the Ryu head sculpt?" Well, I found a FANTASTIC face up artist here on DoA, and now my mom and I have beautiful male and female Migidoll Ryu twins. So yeah, I've bought a male head and put it on the body of a female doll.

    7. Do you only buy one sex of doll? Why do/don't you?
Yes I only buy female dolls. I love to dress them and feel they are an outward expression of my inner self. I like things that appeal to my personality. I like to experiment with clothes I would not be able to wear myself and create a fantasy figure to project certain feelings/desires onto that fullfils a certain part of me.

If you do, would you consider ever buying the opposite gender of doll?
I would consider buying boy dolls. I desperately wanted souldolls li Jun Ki but he was so expensive and I couldn't rationalise spending that kind of money on a doll that would need its own entire wardrobe. I also find 60cm dolls a bit big. I am a bit of a perfectionist so I wouldn't be able to just keep him without having the neccessary accessories and clothing to make him fulfill my fantasy. Also the girls I do have share clothes. I find I can go off a doll quite easily if she doesn't have a particular body type or if she is hard to dress. It is I suppose if I can't do them jusitce I won't buy them at all. If I had a money tree I would have both boy dolls and girl dolls infact I would have a dollzone Megi whose outfit I have for my dollstown seola.

Does the sex of a doll make them more appealing to you?
Yes I suppose it does because of the versatility. Also because it could trigger a response from an undiscovered part of myself. As a girl I don't relate to boy dolls so much because I don't really see myself as having any intrinsic male qualities. Though when I saw megi I felt like he represented something in my personality.

Would you ever buy a head of the opposite sex to use on the doll (maybe because it looks like the opposite gender)?
Yes I would probably buy a boys head and put it on a girls body to make an androgynous character

    8. Do you only buy one sex of doll? Why do/don't you?
I tend to lean towards the male dolls, I only have one doll so far, but of the eight I have planned only one of them is a girl and that's because she's an OC

If you do, would you consider ever buying the opposite gender of doll?
I'd love to get a female doll other than my OC. I'd really like to find a female companion doll for my Promisiuth but there aren't really any female sculpts out there that have caught my eye, even for a second or third look, and I don't want to buy something I'm not absolutely in love with.

Does the sex of a doll make them more appealing to you?
No, not really, although I generally like the male bodies better simply because of the musculature; female bodies tend to look very soft and delicate to me and I'd rather have one with at least the beginnings of muscles than one that I think I could break in half like a toothpick if she were real. Also a lot of the female dolls tend to look the same to me. I mean, they'll have different eye shapes and lip shapes, but generally their outlines are all soft cheeks with pointed chins.

Would you ever buy a head of the opposite sex to use on the doll (maybe because it looks like the opposite gender)?
I'm buying a male Minifee Karsh head to put on a female Minifee A-Line body to be my female OC doll, but this is mainly because the character has a somewhat masculine jawline, and again, most of the female heads I see are soft cheeks and pointed chins.

    9. Do you only buy one sex of doll? Why do/don't you?
Atm I do, unless action figures count....

If you do, would you consider ever buying the opposite gender of doll?
For me it would depend on the character.

Does the sex of a doll make them more appealing to you?
I tend to like female dolls, but there are some nice male ones out I guess.

Would you ever buy a head of the opposite sex to use on the doll (maybe because it looks like the opposite gender)?
no not really, I'd rather save the money and get something else.

    10. Do you only buy one sex of doll? Why do/don't you?
Well, I just start to like bjd and I had bought two boys already (not yet arrive). I think until now I like to buy boys only ^^. It's just that I am a girl and I find boys more interesting. So far there are no girls that I like yet.

If you do, would you consider ever buying the opposite gender of doll?
I think in the future I will like to buy one girl only. It has to be very beautiful for me to buy it ^^

Does the sex of a doll make them more appealing to you?
Well, yes for me. I get capture if I see a guy that is very handsome. Especially I like guys that look like girl or similar to manga characters

Would you ever buy a head of the opposite sex to use on the doll (maybe because it looks like the opposite gender)?
Yeah, If I really like the head and it match what I am looking for

    11. Do you only buy one sex of doll? Why do/don't you?
No. I like dolls that catch my eye. If they happen to be a girl doll, then so be it. Same for boys.

Does the sex of a doll make them more appealing to you?
Not really. I look at the sculpt and decide if that's what I want.

Would you ever buy a head of the opposite sex to use on the doll (maybe because it looks like the opposite gender)?
I believe the Luts Ttory head is supposed to be a boy, and a Fairyland Lishe is meant to be a girl...but my Lishe & Ttory are the opposite. I usually start making up characters for my dolls after I decide I want them...So I don't mind making a sculpt the other gender.

    12. Do you only buy one sex of doll? Why do/don't you?
NO I buy both male and female dolls. I seem to buy in cycles though. I am now going thru another buy phase and most of the dolls that I have coming are male. For the last two years they have been female. I think I am currently evening the numbers up if not the guys are pulling slightly ahead. By the way I have a 20+ dolls currently and have been collecting over 10 years now. I started off with just 1 male doll and it was only him for about 4 years.

Does the sex of a doll make them more appealing to you? I like my my women to be women and my men to be men. I currently do not have any gender neutral dolls.

Would you ever buy a head of the opposite sex to use on the doll (maybe because it looks like the opposite gender)?
Yes, if I found one that work for the character that I have in my head.

    13. Do you only buy one sex of doll? Why do/don't you?
I don't -- I've had boys and girls. But right now I just have girls, because I've become increasingly picky about male sculpts. I want the males to look like males, be they boys or men -- which eliminates about 60% of sculpts out there -- but I also don't want men, which takes away another 30%. Right now there's a sum total of one male sculpt that I want, and I just haven't found any other male sculpt that falls in that sweet spot between too girly-boy and too manly-man.

If you do, would you consider ever buying the opposite gender of doll?
I definitely want to have boys again -- but they have to look like boys! And I don't mean girly-boys. I think Dollstown makes wonderful boys, and Mui is my one male dream doll. If there were more sculptors that make such sculpts... I'd have more boys for sure.

Does the sex of a doll make them more appealing to you?
Not really -- I buy whatever sculpt I like, regardless of sex -- but I definitely want a sculpt that is clearly sex/gender-differentiated. If a sculpt is androgynous, I'd be inclined to make it female, regardless of whether the company put it on a male or female body in the first place.

Would you ever buy a head of the opposite sex to use on the doll (maybe because it looks like the opposite gender)?
I already have made Crobidoll Lance into the woman she was always meant to be. :XD: If I liked any other sculpt but it didn't look male enough for me, I would definitely make it a girl.

    14. Do you only buy one sex of doll? Why do/don't you?
Well, I only own one doll, and she happens to be female, but my next doll who I have in my sights is a male.

If you do, would you consider ever buying the opposite gender of doll?
      Yes.

Does the sex of a doll make them more appealing to you?
I guess I really don't get the question. I guess the answer is no, I'd choose either gender equally, but I'm one of those owners who wants their male dolls to look male and their female dolls to look female. So if the face is too girlish, I guess I'd find it more attractive on a female doll.

Would you ever buy a head of the opposite sex to use on the doll (maybe because it looks like the opposite gender)?
No, I don't really change heads around like that... well, maybe, if the face was girlish but it was on a guy doll.... and I already had the doll anyway.... I'd never be in that situation, but...

    15. Do you only buy one sex of doll? Why do/don't you?

I have bought male dolls but they always end up being the most neglected or used only accessories to my girls. And the girls always out numbered the boys.
So now, I find myself having only girls.

If you do, would you consider ever buying the opposite gender of doll?
as stated above I have and I have been considering a dz boy, but as much as I love the sculpt
the girls are more fun for me (clothing, hair, etc;).

Does the sex of a doll make them more appealing to you?
I think girl dolls are more fun to dress and spoile. Making rooms for them and playing with clothing and wigs. But there are male dolls I like, its just unlikely that I will ever own them, unless that dz boy wears me down. ;)

Would you ever buy a head of the opposite sex to use on the doll (maybe because it looks like the opposite gender)? Yes, I considered making a mnf luka girl but fell for another girl sculpt instead.

    16. Do you only buy one sex of doll? Why do/don't you?
When I first started out in the hobby the first doll I bought was a girl..but when I got my first boy she was out the door! I tried another girl later and that again didn't work so I thought for awhile that I was likely not to have girls. Tried again with another girl..again..she was sold.

That changed with the purchase of my beautiful Island Doll Emily. I fell utterly head over heels for her and now have plans on at least having another Island Doll girl and maybe a Dollfie Dream.

In the end though I will probably have mostly boys..why? I honestly don't know, they just seem to stick with me better.

Does the sex of a doll make them more appealing to you?
It does..yeah. I'm much more likely to buy a boy.

Would you ever buy a head of the opposite sex to use on the doll (maybe because it looks like the opposite gender)?
Heck yes! I see lots of girl sculpts that I'd like as boys and the other way around too.

    17. Do you only buy one sex of doll? Why do/don't you?
Of course not! I have characters both male and female, and I love to make them interact ^^
I like the "traditional" way of romance, like the old fairy tails so sometimes I need different genders xD
      But I also son't mind yaoi/yuri.

Does the sex of a doll make them more appealing to you?
I preffer girls, because it's easier for me to make their personality and to sew their clothes. <3
But I don't have problems buying boys, altough I have fewer of them.

Would you ever buy a head of the opposite sex to use on the doll (maybe because it looks like the opposite gender)?
Surely! It's my next project xD I need a girlish boy but It won't fit the girl body that comes with the head... so...

    18. I buy what I like most and I own both genders and three with no genders (angels). My collection is about 73% boys. A few years ago I had more girls, but now, it's male dominated. While my most treasured doll is a girl, and I really enjoy the girl dolls I do have, I find myself buying more boy dolls. I'm unable to pinpoint the reason why, but I just tend to like them more, as well as their fashions.

As for the last question, I do have some Volks SD/SD-13 girls whose head molds (F-16, old F-28, F-21 & School Head A) are traditionally used for male dolls and I have an Angel Region Glow in the Dark girl, who was originally sold as a boy, as well as an Yder girl. I liked the "unusual" element for sure, but I also simply just thought they looked great as girls! Now typically-girl molds that I have as boys? Haven't gone that route yet, but I would never say never!

    19. I only buy mature female dolls because I want to create gorgeous costumes for them....male clothing (and dolls) are simply not appealing to me.

    20. Do you only buy one sex of doll? Why do/don't you?
I haven't only ever bought female dolls one of my first dolls was a male but I do seem to have more of an affinity for female

If you do, would you consider ever buying the opposite gender of doll?
I would and have bought a make doll...whether I end up keeping them for very long is a different matter.

Does the sex of a doll make them more appealing to you?
In some ways yes I love the female form very much and various female sculpts can show different personalities it makes deciding on female characters difficult. With male I either like them or I don't. However it's mostly to do with the characters I have and I definitely am better at making up and having roles for females. Males is a little harder most probably because I am not male myself so trying to think of a male personality is harder for me. I am always wary of buying male dolls now seeing as my first one didnt get much love in the photography department and I'm worried any other male dolls I own will be pulled out for 2 pictures and then go back in his box.

Would you ever buy a head of the opposite sex to use on the doll (maybe because it looks like the opposite gender)?
I would consider and I have considered using a male head on a female body but not because it looks like a girl. A lot of my doll choices are about fitting the character and for the character I have in mind only a male sculpt will work.
