ONLY buying Male & ONLY buying Female Dolls

Jun 9, 2010

    1. I answered this thread years ago, and originally stated that I would never buy a female doll. However, I've changed my views somewhat since then.

Do you only buy one sex of doll? Why do/don't you?
I've bought between 15-20 male dolls, and I currently have ordered one female doll. I definitely have a very strong preference for boys, but I'm learning to make exceptions. With females, I've found that I like a very, very small number of sculpts. I don't think they're unattractive by any means, but I don't like the facial expressions most have. I think the reason I decided to give females a try was because I kept seeing outfits/wigs/etc for girls that I loved and didn't think would look quite right on any of my crossdressing boys. Plus I have seen some female sculpts that appealed to me immensely. I've noticed that most girls I like have a kind of a melancholy look, like Little Monica's Chloe, who I eventually plan to order. My first female (the one I ordered) will be Leekeworld Fly Mikhaila, who also has a melancholy look, but with more defiance mixed in than LM Chloe.

Does the sex of a doll make them more appealing to you?
Yes, I'll always have a preference for boys. If a sculpt came with a choice of boy or girl body, I'd always pick the boy.

Would you ever buy a head of the opposite sex to use on the doll (maybe because it looks like the opposite gender)?
Possibly. I think it might seem awkward, though.

    2. Do you only buy one sex of doll? Why do/don't you?
My original plan was to make a pseudo-mini-me so yes I was only interested in female dolls at first. Now I have been bitten by the BJD bug and I want all sorts of dollies! However when I have those urges to get another dollie while going through websites I still only look at the female ones. Even when I look at old paintings my eyes always go straight to the women to see what they are wearing. Only recently (past few years) have I looked at what men wore and even planned on making an 18th century suit/ensemble for myself. I am a historical costumer through and through eh? hahaha

If you do, would you consider ever buying the opposite gender of doll?
Yep... My PukiPuki is going to be a male and I want an IH Storm to be my female's partner.

Does the sex of a doll make them more appealing to you?
I don't know... I wonder if I was a male if I would want male dolls? It isn't that men or male dolls can't be dressed up in dresses and corsets but I just find the female form in dresses more appealing and more historically accurate? Hmm.. I'm having a hard time explaining this and I don't want to offend anyone.

Would you ever buy a head of the opposite sex to use on the doll (maybe because it looks like the opposite gender)?
Well a lot of BJD sculpts are angrogynous so I wouldn't mind doing it. I wouldn't want a really wide-jawed IH male head on my Feeple Chloe body though.

    3. Do you only buy one sex of doll? Why do/don't you?
I only have one doll at the moment but plan on only having male dolls. I do not like the female doll bodies.

If you do, would you consider ever buying the opposite gender of doll?
I guess if I really fell in love with a girl I might buy her.

Does the sex of a doll make them more appealing to you?
Not really, but if that were true I guess I would buy female dolls. So Yes. Lol.

Would you ever buy a head of the opposite sex to use on the doll (maybe because it looks like the opposite gender)?
I would because I have a very feminine face and one would like to have a doll that looks like me.

    4. I've only owned BJDs since June 1st of this year xD so I'll try to answer these to best of my ability xD

Do you only buy one sex of doll? Why do/don't you?
The two that I own now are both male. I'd like to not limit myself to just one gender because I feel that I would be stunting my own chances of creativity with my dolls and may become bored with them.
If you do, would you consider ever buying the opposite gender of doll?
It was just recently that I purchased a female doll, and I can say that I feel very excited about it! xD It's more of the "can't wait to dress her in frilly ribbon" feeling and just spoiling her rotten xD I just feel because I will now have a female doll, I can have a better connection with her compared to that of my male dolls, as I am female myself.
Does the sex of a doll make them more appealing to you?
I feel that I am more attracted to male dolls as there is something about "pretty guys" that makes me smile xD maybe this is because of the styles that I myself are influenced by. I love Jrock more of Visual kei, where the men in the bands often dress in elaborate outfits or just wear makeup which makes them look, well, pretty. So I often see male dolls as a chance to create or recreate such styles.
Would you ever buy a head of the opposite sex to use on the doll (maybe because it looks like the opposite gender)?
Yes. I have considered many times buying a "female" head to place onto a male body, but to my discovery, faces can be changed just by changing the faceup. xD

    5. Do you only buy one sex of doll? Why do/don't you?
I don't think that I did it especially, but I have only female dolls yet. and I don't think I like it(

If you do, would you consider ever buying the opposite gender of doll?
I considered buying males sooo many times, much more than females, but something stops me everytime I do, even when I've almost desided order one. that thing is always making me sad(

Does the sex of a doll make them more appealing to you?
okay I think they are both equally appealing for me. they have different kinds of appeal you know. but I might analyse, that what I like in boys is when they are so pretty feminine at all.. only those skinny teen guys, who must have been born women.. so I don't know yet)

Would you ever buy a head of the opposite sex to use on the doll (maybe because it looks like the opposite gender)?
I basically don't care about doll's gender when I see new sculpts or looking for certain face. it's all hybridable)) so it doesn't matter at all.

    6. Do you only buy one sex of doll? Why do/don't you?
Yes, most ideas I have are for female dolls and I find most BJD males too feminine looking, which also makes them look a like. There seems to be more diversity in female sculpts.

If you do, would you consider ever buying the op
      posite gender of doll?
I would buy a male BJD if I had an idea for him and if he had facial hair.Does the sex of a doll make them more appealing to you?
Yes, I have more ideas for female doll characters, I am a girl and I can identify with them and I can even dress them up like me.

Would you ever buy a head of the opposite sex to use on the doll (maybe because it looks like the opposite gender)?
      No I don't think so.

    7. Do you only buy one sex of doll? Why do/don't you?
I plan on only buying male dolls, Most of my characters are self-identified as male, Thus I would make them into such. c: Female characters do appeal to me, But the molds that would fit them make me rethink buying them because of cost and modding that would need to be done in order for me to be content with them in the end. I don't enjoy female dolls (or characters, to be blunt) as much as I enjoy males. I also have very few female character versus male.

If you do, would you consider ever buying the opposite gender of doll?
I would consider buying a female doll if I had a character that would fit the facial sculpt.

Does the sex of a doll make them more appealing to you?
No. If I see a female doll that's only female, I'm more then happy to consider modding it into a male if the character I have in mind requires such. The face is essentially what would sell me on almost any doll I see.

Would you ever buy a head of the opposite sex to use on the doll (maybe because it looks like the opposite gender)?
Not because it looked like the opposite gender, But what it looks like in general. If I find a head appealing, I would purchase it regardless of the gender it's supposed to be. xD

    8. Do you only buy one sex of doll? Why do/don't you?

Yes, for the time being I only buy male dolls. I bond better with them.

If you do, would you consider ever buying the opposite gender of doll?

Yes, I consider adding a few females to my coleccion to try.

Does the sex of a doll make them more appealing to you?

That's another yes for me xD I consider some female dolls appelaing, but prefer buying males, though I never say 'never' to females and, like I said, I'm considering some female dolls to add to my collection.

Would you ever buy a head of the opposite sex to use on the doll (maybe because it looks like the opposite gender)?

I've done so in the past, with a Soom Dia, but wouldn't know because the dolls I like don't look like the opposite gender.

    9. for me i 100% see my dollies as my surrogate children until the day i can bring real children into this world, and even then i see myself remaining attached to my dollies but i think this also has something to do with the fact that i only buy boy dollies since i have my fingers crossed that when i do have kids i will have boys! this may also have to do with me haveing two sisters and being the only tomboy while the other two were "girly-girls"

also ive kinda got even my boyfriend starting to kinda treat my two baby dollie boys like they are people, he knows theyre dolls and i know theyre dolls but we've both formed a strong attachment... i dont know how to explain!

but recently my boyfriend bought a girl dollie, she actually just left new york according to tracking on her, and im wondering how i will feel about her and with her around. i know that she belongs to him, and if we ever break up he will be keeping her but she will still be around me and around my boy dollies and im just hoping i will bond with her since the main reason i never bought a girl dollie was both that one never caught my eyes or called to me but also because whenever i went to doll meets the girl dolls not only didnt call to me even slightly i was almost like... turned off on the girl dollies bif that makes any sense? i was in love with most of the boy dollies at the meet but i ignore the girls so poiniently that they may as well have not even been there for me!

right now im just desperately hopeing that when my boyfriend's girl arrives i will find something to love in her even if its just that she belongs to him!

Do you only buy one sex of doll? Why do/don't you?

Yes, i personally only buy males.

If you do, would you consider ever buying the opposite gender of doll?

i myself have never considered it but my boyfriend's girl doll will soon be very close to me and my boys...

Does the sex of a doll make them more appealing to you?

i like the idea of giving my dollies emasculated personalities... whenever i see girl dolls i generally think "valley girl" right away which is a straight turn off... i do like some SD girls but myself am an MSD only type girl so i dont consider them to apply to me.

Would you ever buy a head of the opposite sex to use on the doll (maybe because it looks like the opposite gender)?

i dont need to, while i bought my akira (DZ mo2) because i knew i could make him look like a devious and more masculine boy i also bought my dariel (B&G ymir) because he already looked so pouty and feminine without having that valley girl look i though alot of the msd girls had!

    10. Do you only buy one sex of doll? Why do/don't you?

I originally ordered girls but have been adding males as my story ideas for the dolls develop. I can't really do what I want to do in terms of photo shoots without a few males.

Does the sex of a doll make them more appealing to you?

I actually have found only a few male heads that really appeal to me. I have discovered that I seem to prefer "pretty boys".

Would you ever buy a head of the opposite sex to use on the doll (maybe because it looks like the opposite gender)?

I almost ordered a female head for that purpose but then found a male head that I loved. I don't think it matters if you love the head and would work for your needs.

    11. Do you only buy one sex of doll? Why do/don't you?
Yes, I only have male dolls. Personally, male dolls just appeal to me more - maybe because all of my dolls as a child were girls? I'm not really sure, but I don't really find myself relating to female dolls. I think they're pretty, and I like looking at them, but I just have no interest in owning one. However, one of my current dolls has pretty much taken up the girl as the girly one, and crossdresses, but I don't consider him a girl so it doesn't bother me. That probably makes no sense, but in my mind it somehow makes it okay.

If you do, would you consider ever buying the opposite gender of doll?
Likely no. If I did purchase a doll of the opposite gender, it would be with the intent to mod it into a boy.

Does the sex of a doll make them more appealing to you?
Yes. If I'm looking at a pretty girl doll, and a pretty boy doll, the boy will be the first that I consider buying. I can't really explain why.

Would you ever buy a head of the opposite sex to use on the doll (maybe because it looks like the opposite gender)?
Why not, it's just a head. The facial build is not what acts as the deciding factor to me, but the body. I'm okay having a "girl" head on a boy body.

    12. Do you only buy one sex of doll? Why do/don't you?
Now, I only have boys. And some between it XD but I definetely prefer boys. I like the unusual, so I think "how can I tranform this little boy?" Day by day I see men using ALWAYS the same type or style of clothes. I like to think "that would the male me", how I would like to be if I was male [ and I can also see the boyfriend I'll never have >< ]. Instead dress a female doll, I would dress myself and do a show ;D . But I would consider a tiny girl. I just never had the opportunity.

If you do, would you consider ever buying the opposite gender of doll?
Yes, definetely. But I need to fall in love to buy a doll and so far, none called me. Maybe a tiny...

Does the sex of a doll make them more appealing to you?
Hell yes. God, I'm sorry, but I just love a well made six pack! Of course my taste of dolls is a mix of my taste of man and my ideal man. I really like how I fall in love with the doll, like a new boyfriend. LOL, I'm not a maniac, I swear.

Would you ever buy a head of the opposite sex to use on the doll (maybe because it looks like the opposite gender)?
I'm just doing it. I would definetely buy it. I mean, its easy to make a doll head and say "it's a man" or "It's a woman", but we know reality is not like that.

    13. Do you only buy one sex of doll? Why do/don't you?
At the moment, I have two girls, and the doll I'm saving for will also be a girl. Therefore, so far, the answer is yes. I don't really know why; I guess the cute girl dolls just appeal to me more. I used to love dressing Barbies when I was little, the girls more than the boys (the fashion, I guess), so I guess that rubbed off on this hobby.

If you do, would you consider ever buying the opposite gender of doll?
Of course! I plan on getting an SD boy to make a couple with an SD girl I'm planning on getting. I always thought a SD boy would be super fun to have.

Does the sex of a doll make them more appealing to you?
I think so...like with LTFs, I want an Ante, and I can imagine dressing her in cute dresses and colorful things, but I can't imagine dressing a boy as much. I don't know why.

Would you ever buy a head of the opposite sex to use on the doll (maybe because it looks like the opposite gender)?
Possibly...although I've never had the impulse to do so just yet.

    14. Do you only buy one sex of doll? Why do/don't you?
I only collect boys. I just find them immensely appealing, and so different from my antique dolls, all of which are female..
If you do, would you consider ever buying the opposite gender of doll?
I really like Dollfie Dreams, and I might buy one someday, though every time I have come close to purchasing one, I've realized I truly would rather have another boy..
Does the sex of a doll make them more appealing to you?
Of course, as I only really like the boy dolls...if there were only female BJD, I wouldn't collect them..
Would you ever buy a head of the opposite sex to use on the doll (maybe because it looks like the opposite gender)?
      Sure, why not? :)

    15. - I've actually already answered this before, but my answers have changed so I figure why not document them. :)
Do you only buy one sex of doll? Why do/don't you?
I have three girls and one boy, though I actually meant to have more boys then girls. I just keep finding female sculpts I really like.
If you do, would you consider ever buying the opposite gender of doll?
I absolutely want to get more boys, or at least one more boy. I'm starting to think (read as understand :p) that I clearly only want 2 boys in my collection. haha
Does the sex of a doll make them more appealing to you?
No, not at all. But like I said it's just really funny to me that I keep buying female dolls instead of boys like I originally thought I wanted.
Would you ever buy a head of the opposite sex to use on the doll (maybe because it looks like the opposite gender)?
I'm not sure. I think resin matching would be very important to me, so I would only do it if the head was from the same company as the body for the most part. Otherwise, as far as the gender goes, I'd have no problem doing that at all. :)

    16. Do you only buy one sex of doll? Why do/don't you?
I only buy guys. Why? Well now that's a tricky question so bear with me!
At the moment I'm in what I call a 'hunk spiral' which means that all I really want to buy at the moment are Iplehouse guys and similar boys, whether it's because it's what I want in real life or because I am fascinated with the male body and character I don't know.
Sometimes I'll want to buy more androgynous guys and be obsessed with having elegant, lithe boys with delicate features. I think I just love how having guy dolls allows you to explore 'maleness' without the confines of gender expectation that men are subject to in the media.

If you do, would you consider ever buying the opposite gender of doll?
I have and both girls were sold pretty quickly :(
As such, although I'd love an Iplehouse Carina, I just know she'll be sold because I bond better with guys and I prefer my boys with boys :3

Does the sex of a doll make them more appealing to you?

Oh yes indeedy, as already stated above, nothing beats a well sculpted boy body with a sexy six-pack and lucious biceps :). In all honesty, it's like I'm scoping for new boyfriends, what do I find attractive you know? So in a way I find my ideal men through dolls :3

Would you ever buy a head of the opposite sex to use on the doll (maybe because it looks like the opposite gender)?
Oh yes, a few on my list are girl dolls that I want to make into guy dolls. Makes them interesting and gives them a wonderfully androgynous look <3

    17. Do you only buy one sex of doll? Why do/don't you?
I have all girls except one little boy. I haven't found that the boys are very appealing to me.
If you do, would you consider ever buying the opposite gender of doll?
I would like to buy more boys but haven't found another one that appeals to me yet.
Does the sex of a doll make them more appealing to you?
Yes as I make doll clothes to sell I find the female clothes easier to design, boys clothes are boring to me.
Would you ever buy a head of the opposite sex to use on the doll (maybe because it looks like the opposite gender)?
Yes, if it suited the female or male that I envision.

    18. Do you only buy one sex of doll? Why do/don't you?
My collection only has little girls in it so far. I have only bought bjd's that appeal to me and that was kaye wiggs and bambicroney it was not until I came to this website that I was ever introduced to the adult dolls and saw how appealing they are.

If you do, would you consider ever buying the opposite gender of doll?

Yes iplehouse has several male dolls that I am interested in.

Does the sex of a doll make them more appealing to you?

No. Its the face that makes them the most appealing to me.

Would you ever buy a head of the opposite sex to use on the doll (maybe because it looks like the opposite gender)? No. I tend to go for the males that look more masculine and the females that look most femanine.

    19. I found female dolls more appealing personally. I would consider buying the opposite gender, but for now it's gonna be all girls. I just love putting them in cute dresses! I would definitely consider buying a head of the opposite gender if I thought it looked feminine and was what I wanted.

    20. Do you only buy one sex of doll? Why do/don't you?
So far i only have male dolls, and am not very interested in female sculpts. The only thing that bothers me is that females get much cuter clothes(and often a larger selection) but having a cross-dressing male doll isn't uncommon and is something i would like to do. :>

If you do, would you consider ever buying the opposite gender of doll?

Possibly, but i would like it to have a very small bust size.

Does the sex of a doll make them more appealing to you?
Yes, i find males more appealing than females.

Would you ever buy a head of the opposite sex to use on the doll (maybe because it looks like the opposite gender)?
I fully intend to buy a female head and put it on a male body when i have the funds, simply because i would prefer it be male rather than female.
