ONLY buying Male & ONLY buying Female Dolls

Jun 9, 2010

    1. No I wouldn't buy a boy doll because as silly as it sounds... I am uncomfortable seeing "doll junk" >.>" I would get one for my girlfriend if she wants one but not for me.

    2. Do you only buy one sex of doll? Why do/don't you?
Right now I only have one girl doll, but I have plans to buy a boy doll sometime in the near future.
I don't see anything wrong with having both girl and boy dolls.
Does the sex of a doll make them more appealing to you?
Not really, but I think it is easier to find clothes for a girl doll, I guess that might be kind of a factor in that question.
Would you ever buy a head of the opposite sex to use on the doll (maybe because it looks like the opposite gender)?
Yes, I am actually considering doing this! After I buy my Soulkid Amy i'm saving for, I want to get her a boyfriend, but I can't seem to find a similar sized boy doll that I like. So now I'm looking at all sculpts regardless of gender, and if I find the right one, I might buy a girl head to put on a boy body.

    3. There's only one Male I want, and I can't find him for sale anywhere anymore. Not even eBay. Otherwise it's all female. I just think they are prettier, and I can dress them in pretty little dresses and whatnot.

    4. I only have one doll so far but these are my answers thus far:

Do you only buy one sex of doll? Why do/don't you?

I would probably always look to buy a female doll first, but I do want a male doll I just never see any available that are manly enough (I don't like how feminine the male dolls can sometimes look)

If you do, would you consider ever buying the opposite gender of doll?

Yes, only one I think and it would have to be super specific.

Does the sex of a doll make them more appealing to you?

Yes I think female dolls have more variations with their body types

Would you ever buy a head of the opposite sex to use on the doll (maybe because it looks like the opposite gender)?

Probably not since I'm looking for a more rugged male doll lol.

    5. I dont buy dolls just because of gender.
However I do like to have female heads on male bodies. I prefer to have feminine males.

    6. Do you only buy one sex of doll? Why do/don't you?
I have two male dolls and no females thus far, but I'm not opposed to the idea of owning one. I'm probably not going to get any more then two dolls though.

If you do, would you consider ever buying the opposite gender of doll?
      N/A

Does the sex of a doll make them more appealing to you?
I guess to some extent yeah. most of my OCs are male and I like to reshell my OCs so that probably has something to do with it.

Would you ever buy a head of the opposite sex to use on the doll (maybe because it looks like the opposite gender)?

oh yeah for sure. I would go either way with that too, I have a RS Song and I've seen some amazing dolls with his head on a female body. mine's male of course.

    7. Do you only buy one sex of doll? Why do/don't you?
Althought I have two females, I would consider myself one who is enamoured with male dolls only. i came from collecting another type of doll where all the buzz was about the females and the male dolls got no love. now that i have the power to chose and design my own doll, i am only getting highly stylized male dolls because i feel they are just more beautiful, cutting edge and fulfill a need for me that no femail doll ever coild.

If you do, would you consider ever buying the opposite gender of doll?
Yes i would and have vetured there twice. no more females though two is too many in my estimation.

Does the sex of a doll make them more appealing to you?
      Surely it does

Would you ever buy a head of the opposite sex to use on the doll (maybe because it looks like the opposite gender)?
Yes and no. I do not really care for androgenous dolls. I like my boy/man dolls to look very masculine and Alpha male like. I often have facial hair added to their face ups and body/facial blushing to make them look more rugged and angular. As far as the hair goes, i will sometimes put femail wigs on my dolls as it creates a start contrast with their maleness and sort of fools the eye at first glance.

    8. So far, I've only bought girls. Initially, because I think the girls are more fun to dress up!

However, both the girls are going to need boyfriends...so I don't think my all-girl phase will last!

    9. Do you only buy one sex of doll? Why do/don't you?
So far, I don't own any, but the first at-least three purchases I have in mind are likely to be entirely female. I would consider a male doll, though so far the only ones I've seen that were really appealing were in the mythological creature category. (Some imps, and the Soom centaur/unicorn models.)

If you do, would you consider ever buying the opposite gender of doll?
      N/A.

Does the sex of a doll make them more appealing to you?
Sort of? It's difficult to nail down exactly how gender impacts my decision beyond - the characters that I have in mind are female, and thus... doll ought to be. Now that I'm thinking of it, I would adore a male character in an outfit akin to the one Gary Oldman wears in Bram Stoker's Dracula. (The gray suit with the top hat.)

Would you ever buy a head of the opposite sex to use on the doll (maybe because it looks like the opposite gender)?
Yes! One of my favorite face plates is the Fairyland Karsh face. I think it works equally well as a male or a female face, and especially well for the female elf that is likely to become my first customized doll. :aheartbea

    10. Do you only buy one sex of doll? Why do/don't you?
The majority of my collection are girl dolls. I don't buy only one sex on purpose though; I've had a few male dolls and it's mostly the girls that tend to stay. :sweat

If you do, would you consider ever buying the opposite gender of doll?
Yes, I've had a couple and then some. I really wish I could find a boy doll that could stay (or at least, last for a while). Maybe I'm looking in the wrong places? Perhaps I haven't seen a style that really appeals to me in person?

Does the sex of a doll make them more appealing to you?
No, I am in love with the idea of owning a boy doll but it just ends up as an impossible love affair lol. I always buy the boy doll thinking it might be secure in his gender but I end up.. wanting to make him into a girl instead. Maybe I should go for dolls less androgynous so I won't be tempted to. :/

Would you ever buy a head of the opposite sex to use on the doll (maybe because it looks like the opposite gender)?
Yeeeeeeeeeees, I did. :aheartbea Most of my dolls are boy heads on girl bodies. :D Currently, they are my BF Louis, VK Michele and Tohya. Not because they look like the opposite gender but because they look more mature than the typical big-eyed cuties but still retain the style that aesthetically appeals to me~

    11. So far I have bought only male dolls. Just something about them I find more aesthetically pleasing, I think. Now I might, in the future, get a female doll but if I do I will probably only get the one.

    12. I only have the one girl, but my wish list consists of three other girls. I would like to get some male dolls, but they generally don't appeal to me as much.

    13. Do you only buy one sex of doll? Why do/don't you?
I have been leaning more on the girl dolls rather than the boys. I just find that I like designing girl outfits rather than boys. More variety I guess. For boys its harder for me to find something I like for them to wear or make for them.

If you do, would you consider ever buying the opposite gender of doll?
I would. There are a few fullset guy dolls that I like. Just not as many as the girls. xD

Does the sex of a doll make them more appealing to you?
Not really. I like both guy and girl dolls. I just seem to find more to do with girls.

Would you ever buy a head of the opposite sex to use on the doll (maybe because it looks like the opposite gender)?
I would. If a doll head looks more femine/masculine I wouldnt mind switching it out. Just depends on the character.

    14. Do you only buy one sex of doll? Why do/don't you?

I don't think I'll ever end up buying a Male doll, they're just not my fancy. I've never been into bishounen-type characters in anime/manga/movies/etc.. and the Male BJDs to me scream "bishie" lol.. Some people can make them look really neat, but I've just never really liked them. I'm very much into girl dolls :)

If you do, would you consider ever buying the opposite gender of doll?

      Nope :D

Does the sex of a doll make them more appealing to you?

Yes, just cause I really don't care for guy dolls. I have nothing against people who DO, I'm just really not a fan at all. I love girl dolls! ^^

Would you ever buy a head of the opposite sex to use on the doll (maybe because it looks like the opposite gender)?

I considered it, just cause a lot of the male heads are feminine, but they're not quite feminine enough for me.

    15. When I bought my first doll I had no interest in the male dolls. But then I started paying more attention to photography of them. Then I saw a great deal on one in an auction, er...somewhere else on line. Then I say another great opportunity to get a guy doll that really caught my eye. His personality was loud and clear to me.

They were both SD. So then I watched specifically for MSD size guys for all the MSD girls that had found their way into my home. This WHOLE love of the dolls has been a surprise to me.

That is very interesting that the male dolls allow you some freedom to express the tomboy in you. They are very special as a hobby that provides each of us with huge space to explore ourselves in the safety of a doll/doll world. HMMMmmm...*she ponders a bit*

I do use their heads for whatever sex doll I want it to be. May even allow some of my dolls to portray both sexes, but probably not at the same time. No cross-gender dolls, or drag queens, or girls totally suppressing female to project their male-ness. I know of one name for that, but I don't want to use it because I think it is mostly used as derogatory. I'm not making judgement calls about any of those deeper topics. But they do lie just below the surface of this question of the sex or sexuality of dolls. (As expressed from within ourselves).

    16. Do you only buy one sex of doll? Why do/don't you?
I tend to buy rather male dolls. I'm not quite sure why but I think it's because owning a female doll isn't something so special, most of the girls play with Barbies, when they're young. But owning a male anime-ish looking doll is something new, entertaining, interesting, at least for me. Or maybe my male characters are just cooler than my female characters, I dunno. XD

If you do, would you consider ever buying the opposite gender of doll?
I have 3 male dolls, right now planning on the 4th and 5th, but very vague. Infact I bought 2 female floating heads and am now planning on a Yosd girl. So you could say I'm opening up to buy also female dolls.

Does the sex of a doll make them more appealing to you?
As I said, I'm basically creating fictional characters and than choose dolls for them. Right now I'm considering buying different dolls/sizes for a single character of mine, who happens to be male. So it's more like a character is more appealing to me than the gender.

Would you ever buy a head of the opposite sex to use on the doll (maybe because it looks like the opposite gender)?
At least I cannot exclude this idea of making a hybrid. But I don't think I will do that.

    17. Do you only buy one sex of doll? Why do/don't you?
No, I have one girl and one boy, for now. I'm buying dolls only when I decided I love them so much that I must have them and no matter if they boy or girl...

Does the sex of a doll make them more appealing to you?
      No... I think.

Would you ever buy a head of the opposite sex to use on the doll (maybe because it looks like the opposite gender)?
Maybe. If I would know exactly what I want to do with him/her I think I could.

    18. Do you only buy one sex of doll? Why do/don't you?

I plan on buying only male dolls. I'm not sure why, they just appeal to me more. I feel like their personalities are deeper or they connect with me better.

If you do, would you consider ever buying the opposite gender of doll?

I've considered it, but I've yet to find a female doll that strikes me.

Does the sex of a doll make them more appealing to you?

Hahaha, yup. As I said, males are more appealing.

Would you ever buy a head of the opposite sex to use on the doll (maybe because it looks like the opposite gender)?

      Possibly!! I've considered it.

    19. Do you only buy one sex of doll? Why don't you?
I started with a girl. I like the curves, the mostly soft faces and can imagine stories and feelings more easily when the doll is female. I can relate to them better so I won't get male dolls, I thought. But the second one was already male and now I have four male dolls (with two of them being anthro tinies and I don't really see any real gender there other than the characters and stories I gave them.) and six females (with one actually being genderless but female in clothing and character mostly). And although I'm still more attracted to my female dolls I love my boys. ^^
Does the sex of a doll make them more appealing to you?
As I said above, yes they do.
Would you ever buy a head of the opposite sex to use on the doll?
I got a DZ Orlando head because it didn't really look female to me at all for my tomboy character. The promo pics let her look like a guy in a dress.
If I was to make a new doll, why not? If I find a character for that.

    20. Do you only buy one sex of doll? Why do/don't you?

Yes, only males. I'm not really sure about the reason, but all (well, most of them) the characters I imagine are males...I never really liked female characters in books, tv series etc so I always created male characters.

If you do, would you consider ever buying the opposite gender of doll?

At the moment I don't want a female doll, I don't need her now, maybe in the future.

Does the sex of a doll make them more appealing to you?

      Yes.

Would you ever buy a head of the opposite sex to use on the doll (maybe because it looks like the opposite gender)?

Yes, I've seen some interesting female sculpts and I'm considering buying only the head.
