ONLY buying Male & ONLY buying Female Dolls

Jun 9, 2010

    1. Do you only buy one sex of doll? Why do/don't you?

Currently I have only female dolls (mostly Volks DDs). If asked if this is because I prefer female dolls over male, that's not true. I would love to own at least one male doll in the future. The reason I don't own any right now is because most of the ones I like are past releases that are very hard to find now.

If you do, would you consider ever buying the opposite gender of doll?

Yes I would, if there's a mold that I like.

Does the sex of a doll make them more appealing to you?

No, at least I don't think I bought my dolls because they're female. I bought them because I fell in love with their face molds. I love how they look.

Would you ever buy a head of the opposite sex to use on the doll (maybe because it looks like the opposite gender)?
If it's a head that is appealing to me, I might. Though most of the boy heads that I like are pretty masculine so I never thought of having them on girl bodies. However, if I ever happen to find a head that I like and prefer for it to become a girl, I would do so.

    2. Do you only buy one sex of doll? Why do/don't you?
i only buy girls, i havent really thought about the reason, i dont really know..i just like girls more i guess. when it comes to dolls. i think girls are more beautiful than boys, i guess

If you do, would you consider ever buying the opposite gender of doll?
      no, not right now anyway.

Does the sex of a doll make them more appealing to you?
      yes, i only buy girls

Would you ever buy a head of the opposite sex to use on the doll (maybe because it looks like the opposite gender)?
      yes, why not

    3. Do you only buy one sex of doll? Why do/don't you?
I Don't buy only females or males i buy them both but i like males more , that i prefer
for example i have an Angel of dream An and it was my first doll so i thought like it has an girly face so i maked an girl of it .

    4. Do you only buy one sex of doll? Why do/don't you?
I have both boy and girl dolls at home. I have one girl doll and two boy dolls, but if I were to buy more, I'd probably buy boy dolls, simply because I find the 'male' sculpts that are in the market more appealing and nicely sculpted than 'female' sculpts. Saying this however, if I were to only have one 'ultimate', 'perfect' grail doll, I'd want it to be female.

If you do, would you consider ever buying the opposite gender of doll?
      N/A

Does the sex of a doll make them more appealing to you?
Not really. I buy dolls based on 2 independent criteria: whether I like their face sculpt or not, and whether I like their body sculpt or not (but mainly the former more than the latter). I don't plan on buying any more dolls for the moment, but if I see a face sculpt which I think may look better as the opposite sex of its default sex, then I may be more likely to buy it - therefore in this case what sex the doll originally is doesn't really matter and doesn't really affect how much it appeals to me, as long as the face looks pretty. :)

The reason why I won't ever consider vowing to only buying dolls of one sex is that both male and female dolls have their differences and different appeals. I think male dolls are really cool and generally have better face sculpts, but I also think there is something special about female dolls - the way you can dress them up in traditionally 'dolly' clothing (frilly, puffy, girly stuff etc.) and how they can look effortlessly pretty and feminine (I guess this makes sense because the majority of the traditional bisque dolls are female). So I think that if you buy dolls of both sexes, there will be more variety. However, even within the same sex, BJDs do vary greatly with images - i.e. different styles of clothing from different cultures, eras and movements, different concepts such as going down the fantasy root of faeries and vampires or staying traditional and down to earth. So in the end, it's just personal preference, I guess.

Would you ever buy a head of the opposite sex to use on the doll (maybe because it looks like the opposite gender)?
I haven't done this yet, but I would definitely if I thought a girl looked better as a boy and vice versa. As I said before, I like a doll on whether I like the face or not, so I don't really consider what sex the company/sculptor sets as its default.

(Sorry for the really wordy answer... I think I've put my answers in the wrong sections and just confused and contradicted myself now...*_*)

    5. Do you only buy one sex of doll? Why do/don't you?
I have two girls and a pukipuki boys now but I'm really feeling the need for a full sized boy. I gravitate toward female dolls in general because the female form is more aesthetically pleasing to me. However, I need a few guys in my crew for the simple reason that I'm a tomboy and make friends easier with guys than I do with girls. Sometimes, it's just easier to do masculine fashion on the bodies they were meant to adorn.

If you do, would you consider ever buying the opposite gender of doll?

      Of course!

Does the sex of a doll make them more appealing to you?

I hate to be the shrewd one, but yes. I am drawn to full lips and narrow eyes. Sometimes, I see a beautiful face that appeals to me and then lose interest 90% of the time when I see that the doll is male. I like my boy dolls to look, undeniably, male, because despite being a lesbian, I can and do appreciate masculine facial features.

Would you ever buy a head of the opposite sex to use on the doll (maybe because it looks like the opposite gender)?

Sure. Right now, I'm on the hunt for one sculpt that I can use for a pair of twins, a boy and a girl. They'll be younger though so the distinct masculine features won't be as defined as a doll who is supposed to be an adult.

    6. Do you only buy one sex of doll? Why do/don't you? Thus far, I have only purchased a female doll; I wanted a girl, because she was my first. I'm the only girl (and the youngest) in my family, so I wanted something that I could relate to. It was just a personal thing. :) I would definitely buy a boy if I found one that really appealed to me!

If you do, would you consider ever buying the opposite gender of doll? Of course! As stated before, if I found one that I really loved, I would buy it regardless of gender.

Does the sex of a doll make them more appealing to you?
I suppose so; I can relate to females a lot better seeing as I am one. However, seeing as I'm attracted to men, I like spending time with them. I suppose it depends on the companion I need at the moment. :)

Would you ever buy a head of the opposite sex to use on the doll (maybe because it looks like the opposite gender)? Sure! A lot of boys are as pretty as girls, and some girl heads would look better on a boy! I'd like to think I'm open-minded.

    7. Do you only buy one sex of doll? Why do/don't you?
Yep, females only. Buying male dolls for me is a try to find a replacement for a human lover (male, since I'm straight), and I think this is not the way it should be.
What is more, I've always bought female dolls to clothe them in posh and glamorous outfits since I haven't got very many opportunities to wear them myself.

If you do, would you consider ever buying the opposite gender of doll?
Definately no. I have too many female dolls in my wishlist so I hardly believe that once there will be some boy's turn to arrive in my place.

Does the sex of a doll make them more appealing to you?
Definately yes. I always admire the beauty of female dolls, male - never.

Would you ever buy a head of the opposite sex to use on the doll (maybe because it looks like the opposite gender)?
Why not? What's more, I like such transformations very much, esp. if they are done by creative people and have unique image.

    8. Do you only buy one sex of doll? Why do/don't you?
Currently I do not own a doll, but I'm only looking at female dolls to buy, so yes, I only see myself owning females.

If you do, would you consider ever buying the opposite gender of doll?

I have thought about it, but to me male sculpts are not very...realistic.... to what I think is attractive in a man. I don't like a ton of muscle and I also don't like super feminine guys. BJD boys, to me, look very weird or look like girls. If I'm going to get a boy that looks like a girl, I would just rather have a girl.

Does the sex of a doll make them more appealing to you?
I don't truly understand this question, but let me just continue from above by saying, I don't like the way boy dolls look, however if I ever found a boy who looked like my boyfriend's body type, (maybe taller and less round of a face...) I would consider buying him, but sex has nothing to do with it.

Would you ever buy a head of the opposite sex to use on the doll (maybe because it looks like the opposite gender)?
No, because boy heads are either bleh or they look like girls.

    9. Do you only buy one sex of doll? Why do/don't you?

If you do, would you consider ever buying the opposite gender of doll?

Of course! If he/she are beautiful, I think they're always considered of being bought.

Does the sex of a doll make them more appealing to you?

Personally, I do admit seeing a girl is a bit more nice, but that's only because I just don't own one right now.

Would you ever buy a head of the opposite sex to use on the doll (maybe because it looks like the opposite gender)?

Oh sure. As long as it fits right and doesn't look too awkward around the jawline.

    10. Do you only buy one sex of doll? Why do/don't you?
No, I have multiple of both but I do prefer SD males over SD females. It's just a thing I have.

Does the sex of a doll make them more appealing to you?

Depends on what I'm looking for at the time, size, company...

Would you ever buy a head of the opposite sex to use on the doll (maybe because it looks like the opposite gender)?
Of course! I love dolls like that.

    11. I generally go for female dolls solely because I haven't found a male doll masculine enough. I know that sounds weird so as for right now, the female dolls are most appealing. I am not going to rule out getting a
Male doll, just not right now.

    12. Right now I only have male dolls, even in Anthro dolls. I have looked for female dolls as I would like to add some to my collection, but am always drawn to the male dolls. I like other peoples female dolls, but can't find the 'right one' for me. It comes down to if I'm going to spend the money on it, I really have to like it -male or female. So far males win out...

    13. Do you only buy one sex of doll? Why do/don't you?
I'm a girly girl and I personally love getting dressed up. Hair must be done, including any hair jewelry/accessories, makeup, jewelry, purse, shoes, and outfit all must coordinate. I can't imagine doing this for guys since they don't really have as many accessories as women do, at least in my opinion. So of course I want a girly girl doll and I found her in Alythia (PlanetDoll Tara).
If you do, would you consider ever buying the opposite gender of doll?
I really can't picture owning a male doll. I don't feel a pull towards them.

Does the sex of a doll make them more appealing to you?
Yes! I feel that the female body is just so much more beautiful with all its curvy lines.

Would you ever buy a head of the opposite sex to use on the doll (maybe because it looks like the opposite gender)?
No because even female faces have a gentler, curvier, and softer look about them. I find that the male heads are very linear with harsh edges.

    14. Do you only buy one sex of doll ? Why do/don't you ?
      Just girls.
Because, i don't know exactly, but when i'm planning to buy a boy, a girl take his place...
I still don't have this MNF Karsh.
Lately, i bought a Mr Hat on Another Secret preorder, and he hasn't any face up, or even a body, and he will be on sale one day maybe.
Boys always get the second place here, i don't really know what to do with a male doll.

If you do, would you consider ever buying the opposite gender of doll ?
As i said just before, i already did it, but i'm not convinced yet =/

Does the sex of a doll make them more appealing to you ?
Not appealing by a good looking, but more by what we can do with the doll.
I think there are more possibilities with girls than boys, in my hands.
Many dolls have great potential, but i think i won't able to do something special with boys.

Would you ever buy a head of the opposite sex to use on the doll (maybe because it looks like the opposite gender) ?
I'd try to make a MNF Luka a girl, many dolls can be turn into girls.

    15. Do you only buy one sex of doll? Why do/don't you?

So far, I have one boy, a male doll head which will get a body soon, and a male faceplate on the way. I prefer boys naturally, since I identify with them, but there are some female dolls that I want. DoT E-an is one of them. However, male dolls always have cooler looking sculpts.

If you do, would you consider ever buying the opposite gender of doll?

Like I said earlier, I'd love to buy a few girl dolls. But usually, I end up being interested in a new boy.

Does the sex of a doll make them more appealing to you?

Not really. What appeals to me about a doll is its appearance. If it looks cool, I want it. Gender really has nothing to do with it.

Would you ever buy a head of the opposite sex to use on the doll (maybe because it looks like the opposite gender)

Oh yes. Lots of male heads make really awesome and unique looking girls.

    16. Do you only buy one sex of doll? Why do/don't you?

I only buy male dolls because I simply love them!

If you do, would you consider ever buying the opposite gender of doll?

I think I would only buy it, when I can make a boy out of her.

Does the sex of a doll make them more appealing to you?

Difficult. I'm a huge anime and manga bishonen fan, so that may be the cause. And on the other side, I don't like female dolls so much.

Would you ever buy a head of the opposite sex to use on the doll (maybe because it looks like the opposite gender)?

If I like the head, I maybe would. But the head shouldn't be to feminine, it should have something boyish about him. And I would look upon pictures of other owners, if they maybe got the same idea. :-)

    17. Do you only buy one sex of doll? Why do/don't you?
I only buy females. I find it hard for me to create male characters. I also find I am more comfortable with females because I can dress them in any way and they won't be misgendered. I tend to find female bodies and heads more appealing.

If you do, would you consider ever buying the opposite gender of doll?
Sure, if I could find a good character for him.

Does the sex of a doll make them more appealing to you?
What appeals to me more is not exactly the sex of the doll, but if their face would work well on a female body. So in a way, yes!

Would you ever buy a head of the opposite sex to use on the doll (maybe because it looks like the opposite gender)?

Oh, of course! I love seeing faces intended for males on female bodies. It adds a neat sort of charm to the character. Females don't have to look a certain way, and neither do males.

    18. Do you only buy one sex of doll? Why do/don't you?
Yup, Just boys. I guess its because to me, owning "girl dolls" is so common outside of the BJD hobby. I like that this hobby allows me to buy boy dolls that are exactly to my taste. I like that I can make the dolls "somewhat feminine" but they are still boys.:3

If you do, would you consider ever buying the opposite gender of doll?
Nope. I just don't have any interest in girl dolls.

Does the sex of a doll make them more appealing to you?
I suppose so. Probably for the reason stated above. 99% of my characters are boys as well.

Would you ever buy a head of the opposite sex to use on the doll (maybe because it looks like the opposite gender)?

I've seen a few "female" heads that I thought would look really cute with a more boyish faceup and on a boy body. When it comes to face sculpts, BJDs tend to be somewhat androgynous anyway. A large majority of the time they can be used for both boys and girls depending on the faceup.
      I do tend to have a thing for androgyny, lol > U>;

    19. Do you only buy one sex of doll? Why do/don't you?

I have all boys at the moment, the reason is because I have a very hard time finding a girl sculpt that is within my budget and that I find aesthetically pleasing. I find that the boys are much easier to find with nice sculpts in my price range and with the personalities I like.

If you do, would you consider ever buying the opposite gender of doll?
I actually just found one girl that I really like and would consider buying when I have the funds for her which will be in a few months. She will however probably be the only female doll I own. (She is a doll leaves Vanesa)

Does the sex of a doll make them more appealing to you?

Honestly I love my boy dolls, and if I get my girl she will be the only one more then likely simply because the boys are more unique in my own opinion. Being someone who grew up with a ton of barbies and one ken doll I suppose that is what happens. lol

Would you ever buy a head of the opposite sex to use on the doll (maybe because it looks like the opposite gender)?

Donno about this one. I suppose I might if they really reminded me of the other gender.

    20. Do you only buy one sex of doll? Why do/don't you?
I only buy female dolls, because a high percentage of the male dolls I've seen look far too androgynous for my tastes.

If you do, would you consider ever buying the opposite gender of doll?
If I saw a sculpt that I really really liked, I don't see why not.

Does the sex of a doll make them more appealing to you?
Female dolls appeal to me much more than male dolls, so yes I suppose.

Would you ever buy a head of the opposite sex to use on the doll (maybe because it looks like the opposite gender)?
No, because I'd know it was originally a male head, so I wouldn't consider it female.
