ONLY buying Male & ONLY buying Female Dolls

Jun 9, 2010

    1. Do you only buy one sex of doll? Why do/don't you?
Well at the moment I only have girl dolls. I've seen boys I like, plenty actually, but none that fit the character I have in mind. D:
If you do, would you consider ever buying the opposite gender of doll?
      Yep! Currently looking for one.

Does the sex of a doll make them more appealing to you?
Nope. Not at all. If I like the doll I like it, gender doesn't matter.

Would you ever buy a head of the opposite sex to use on the doll (maybe because it looks like the opposite gender)?
Yep. Like I want an Iplehouse Asa JID put to but the head on a male body....Probably is finding a male body that's taller then the JID girl body!

    2. Do you only buy one sex of doll? Why do/don't you?

i currently only own female dolls. i actually like some male dolls, but there are two problems: one, i like female dolls more, so i feel the need to collect female dolls (priority) over male dolls. second, there are two male archetypes i like: super masculine macho males, and very feminine androgynous males (complete opposites).

dolls that fall into the first category are not to my taste, and i would probably never buy them (nor do i judge those who like them). to me, personally, a doll is more suited to feminine aesthetics. if i want something "macho" i will go for an action figure or anime figure rather than a doll.

luckily there are plenty of male dolls that fit my other preference, but i still like female bodies more. so i haven't yet committed to wanting a "femme" male doll. it might be refreshing to have a doll with a male body, but then it would also be tempting to put a femme male head on a female body.

most of my friends have always been men, i have no sisters, and i have always identified with male friends more despite having a very cliche feminine side (enjoying beauty, fashion, make-up, and so on). i think the reason i choose to collect female dolls and figures is because i do not have any close female friends (i have some, but i find it harder to relate to them in real life than to my male friends), and also because i have an ambiguous sexuality. by this i mean i have a criteria for what i find aesthetically or sexually attractive that can be applied to males, females, or those who do not fit within either gender. if the person or object falls within my personal specific criteria, i will probably consider them attractive, regardless of gender. this rule also applies to inanimate objects like dolls.

i definitely don't consider all dolls to be sexual, for instance i think of a flat chested MSD type doll as a "child" so i can't seriously objectify them in that way (i'm fine with joking about it even if it's in poor taste, but i just do not consider characters that are not portrayed as sexually developed to be sexual). the more late-teens or adult looking dolls have something aesthetic and sexual about them which i think is fine since that is more appropriate.

If you do, would you consider ever buying the opposite gender of doll?
see above, i might buy a male doll one day, it's just very low on my priorities. i do appreciate them though and like looking at photos of them.

Does the sex of a doll make them more appealing to you?
obviously, if you've read my first answer.

Would you ever buy a head of the opposite sex to use on the doll (maybe because it looks like the opposite gender)?
also answered in the first question - maybe, but i am not sure how i stand on this yet.

    3. I love female dolls but right now I only have one girl and like 7 boys (waiting for 3 boys more) I love boy dolls! probably because I always had female dolls as a kid but as of today, I feel like I want to buy female dolls, I enjoy watching the pictures...one of these days i will have a SD or MSD girl, I haven't found the perfect mold yet.

    4. Do you only buy one sex of doll? Why do/don't you?

Well I don't plan to. I've found several female dolls that I've imediately fallen for. Two are going to be characters, one... she's just gorgeous and even if I can't place her, she'll just be around to look pretty, and the the fourth I plan to do customization work on...once I actually know what I'm doing. The mahority of the dolls I end up liking though are male...

If you do, would you consider ever buying the opposite gender of doll?

      N/A

Does the sex of a doll make them more appealing to you?
Hmm... perhaps... I find I'm more drawn to the male dolls simply because in my various dolls collecting experiences, all of the dolls have been girls. To see male dolls (be they lanky, lean, or muscular) is new and interesting for me.

Would you ever buy a head of the opposite sex to use on the doll (maybe because it looks like the opposite gender)? Soom Dia. I love the way Dia looks as a man. And I'd consider making a Luts Annette boy for the same reason. You see many male heads that could make good females... but really, I haven't seen the opposite so much... but maybe that's just me.

    5. Do you only buy one sex of doll? Why do/don't you?
I just ordered my first doll, but Ithink I'll buy only male dolls in future. 'Cause when I looked through thousands of home photos to find 'my' doll, I understood that I can't imagine myself having female doll.

If you do, would you consider ever buying the opposite gender of doll?
If one day I'll see female doll I'll feel 'right' about - yes.

Does the sex of a doll make them more appealing to you?
      Yeah

Would you ever buy a head of the opposite sex to use on the doll (maybe because it looks like the opposite gender)?
If it looks like a male to me - yes.

    6. Do you only buy one sex of doll? Why do/don't you?
As of right now I've only bought males. All of the dolls in my wishlist are all males as well. For me it's more that fact that I'm (sadly) a self-hating female and only like males. *_*

If you do, would you consider ever buying the opposite gender of doll?
Yes, sometime in the very distant future. There are a couple of female OCs that I would like to turn into dolls.

Does the sex of a doll make them more appealing to you?
      Ooooh yeah.

Would you ever buy a head of the opposite sex to use on the doll (maybe because it looks like the opposite gender)?
Yes. Before I decided on the DZ Hid head for my next boy I was going to use a female head for him.

    7. Do you only buy one sex of doll? Why do/don't you?

Yes, mostly female. And I'm not sure why. I think women just look...prettier? The male form never attracted me. Maybe deep down sexual sterotypes plague me and there is something effeminate about buying a male doll because I'm a guy? Though in retrospect, growing up I kept buying the one lone female action figure in whatever line I liked and THAT was considered, like, totally gay by all the other dudes. Male psychology is a frightening thing.

If you do, would you consider ever buying the opposite gender of doll?

Maybe. It would have to be a really, really badass one. Maybe that's the problem - too many male dolls go for the androgynous look. Never mind that I have long hair and was super skinny during my college years, to the point that more than one dude thought I was a chick from behind.

I would also feel weird carrying around a burly mini dude in my arms. Don't know why. Feels wrong. Burly man-doll should be carrying ME.

Does the sex of a doll make them more appealing to you?

Well, kind of. I think women are pretty, so pretty doll = appealing. It's not a weird sex thing though, I don't think. Also, women dolls get better outfits.

Would you ever buy a head of the opposite sex to use on the doll (maybe because it looks like the opposite gender)?

Maybe by accident? I have very poor BJD imaginative skills, the faceups sell me. If I just see a rounded head and was told it was a boy, I would shrug but wouldn't feel compelled to buy it.

    8. Do you only buy one sex of doll? Why do/don't you?
Currently I only have male dolls. Reason being, most of the dolls that catch my eye are males.

If you do, would you consider ever buying the opposite gender of doll?
I'd like to buy a female doll, but so far there's nothing that I really like.

Does the sex of a doll make them more appealing to you?
Not really; it's the face sculpt that I take into consideration when buying dolls.

Would you ever buy a head of the opposite sex to use on the doll (maybe because it looks like the opposite gender)?
Yes, I've thought about doing that to a couple of heads. Some male heads would look really nice as moody girls.

    9. Do you only buy one sex of doll? Why do/don't you?
No. I have found that with dolls and even characters I've made in the past for role playing, males were more appealing to me somehow. On my little wishlist I've got going I've only got one female planned so it doesn't rule out buying them down the line. Not as many female sculpts have seriously stuck out at me so far like a number of male sculpts have.

If you do, would you consider ever buying the opposite gender of doll?
      See above answer.

Does the sex of a doll make them more appealing to you?
I don't think so. The major deciding factor on which dolls to actually look into buying would be if I have a previous character in mind and out of those the ones I've really liked the most have been male whereas I've had very few female characters that have stuck out in this way. Gender is a minor issue for me with dolls and with people, it's the character/personality that matters.

Would you ever buy a head of the opposite sex to use on the doll (maybe because it looks like the opposite gender)?
Yes, if I ever found one I'd rather the opposite gender for sure. As long as the sculpt suits the character, the mix and matching doesn't matter.

    10. Do you only buy one sex of doll? Why do/don't you?
Not really. Because I plan to get female doll as well.

If you do, would you consider ever buying the opposite gender of doll?
      I guess so ^^

Does the sex of a doll make them more appealing to you?
Nope, I usually loved them by their sculpt.

Would you ever buy a head of the opposite sex to use on the doll (maybe because it looks like the opposite gender)?
      Definitely will be :)

    11. Do you only buy one sex of doll? Why do/don't you?
Yes, I buy only female because they are so glamour! And I don't find that boys are really interesting...

If you do, would you consider ever buying the opposite gender of doll?
      No, never! ^^

Does the sex of a doll make them more appealing to you?
Yes, but I look especially facial beauty

Would you ever buy a head of the opposite sex to use on the doll (maybe because it looks like the opposite gender)?
      I don't think, because I don't like androgyne dolls.

    12. Do you only buy one sex of doll? Why do/don't you?
I only have female dolls so far. Mostly because I really enjoy cute/frilly dresses and soft pastel colours.
I have the feeling I wouldn't be able to dress up Male dolls properly - even though there's some dashing suits for guys.

If you do, would you consider ever buying the opposite gender of doll?
      If I ever feel more confident about my ability to "dress them up", I wouldn't mind a boy MNF for the girl I have. She looks rather lonely, and I keep seeing some lovely MNF couples. ;A;

Does the sex of a doll make them more appealing to you?
Not really. It's about the sculpt for me.

Would you ever buy a head of the opposite sex to use on the doll (maybe because it looks like the opposite gender)?

Androgyne dolls just aren't for me, so I guess not.

    13. Do you only buy one sex of doll? Why do/don't you?
I didnt use to buy only one gender.
I used to collect both, but my trouble with boys is i kept wanting to make them girls ><
Which just made me unhappy how i couldnt get my boys to looking pretty yet still manly =/
So now im only going to get girls. ^^

If you do, would you consider ever buying the opposite gender of doll?
No, im not interested in having boys atm.

Does the sex of a doll make them more appealing to you?
No it doesnt. Its all in the face for me...
Well i guess i do like how girls doll bodies look more than the boy dolls.
But just because its a girl doesnt mean ill automatically find it appealing.

Would you ever buy a head of the opposite sex to use on the doll (maybe because it looks like the opposite gender)?
I would do this, mostly because i think a majority of the boy heads look so much better as girls with a girl faceup, wig, outfit etc. But hybriding for me in the past was a paint, and i didnt enjoy it much, so i probably wont actually do this.

    14. Do you only buy one sex of doll? Why do/don't you?
At the moment, I have only use for two dolls, both being male. All the other dolls I find pleasing and actually want are men. I just love the more manly and mature faces and bodies that females don't really offer without being overly butch [from what I've seen so far]. I have nothing against female dolls, I find a good amount rather cute, but no desire to own.

If you do, would you consider ever buying the opposite gender of doll?
Dream of Doll has a doll set of two twins of both genders that I actually may buy in the future. I have two characters that are twins of opposite genders and them being MSD sized suits them really well. This female doll is pleasing to me, but if she were to come separate from her brother, I don't think I would have much interest in her.

Does the sex of a doll make them more appealing to you?
Yes. I like pretty boys, so male BJD's just hit a nail on the head for me.

Would you ever buy a head of the opposite sex to use on the doll (maybe because it looks like the opposite gender)?
That's a good question. I doubt I would ever buy a floating head, but there have been often times where I thought about reshelling my current SD boy for a more girlish face to fit his character, but so far I haven't found anything I liked. My future boy's face is already perfect for me so I have no use to buy a separate head for him.

    15. Do you only buy one sex of doll? Why do/don't you?
So far I am in waiting for my first BJD currently, She is a 43cm Bobobie Elf girl Sprite and I cant wait for her, I was looking through a bunch of dolls and i seem to have fallen for many female ones, or male ones that at first appear feminine. ^w^" i guess it's all preference with me, I adore women and girls and the like (considering i am one >w> I'm BI and PROUD :D))

If you do, would you consider ever buying the opposite gender of doll?
I might OWO but I am more likely to stick to girls (mainly MSD's) because i dont like the angles of the male body ^w^" I prefer a bishie boy like Mira kun off of Papa to Kiss in the Dark (amazing anime if your into yaoi >w<))

Does the sex of a doll make them more appealing to you?
Yeah, I enjoy the curvyness of the female body. (Plus i can only draw chicks ;A;))

Would you ever buy a head of the opposite sex to use on the doll (maybe because it looks like the opposite gender)?
I think i would OwO it seems interesting to me since the next character i'm looking for is IMPOSSIBLE to find the correct MSD sculpted face...

    16. Aaaand I stand corrected. I saw a doll that I totally thought was female, but is make, so I'll probably buy the head.

    17. Do you only buy one sex of doll? Why do/don't you? Usually i only buy/prefer male dolls as it attracts me much more than any female doll. I haven't seen any female doll which REALLY appeals to me. Nothing against them though.

If you do, would you consider ever buying the opposite gender of doll? Yes, if i see any sculpts i like on a female doll, but usually male doles are my priority.

Does the sex of a doll make them more appealing to you? Kinda ,I like girly male dolls, which many people tell me, i'd rather just get a female doll but the feeling of Girly male and female is different to me.

Would you ever buy a head of the opposite sex to use on the doll (maybe because it looks like the opposite gender)? I would , and i'm currently doing ! I'm buying an Ai from Resinsoul head and putting it on a male body . It's just cause , Ai seems more like a male than female and gives of that 'Gentle Seme' look!

    18. Do you only buy one sex of doll? Why do/don't you?
I only have girl dolls. They're easier to dress and I like them.

If you do, would you consider ever buying the opposite gender of doll?
Not really. I don't find the boy dolls as cute.

Does the sex of a doll make them more appealing to you?
      No.

Would you ever buy a head of the opposite sex to use on the doll (maybe because it looks like the opposite gender)?
Hmm.. Maybe. People do that, and it seems interesting.

    19. Do you only buy one sex of doll? Why do/don't you?
Yes I only buy male. I dont like why...I love handsome boys and girl-like boy..but I do not have any feeling towards kawaii girls..I dont know why...

If you do, would you consider ever buying the opposite gender of doll?

I never consider buying female dolls..coz of no special feeling...

Does the sex of a doll make them more appealing to you?
MALE is appealing in all aspects XD

Would you ever buy a head of the opposite sex to use on the doll (maybe because it looks like the opposite gender)?
YES!!I love buying a doll head which can be handsome like a boy sometime and like a girl sometime

    20. Do you only buy one sex of doll? Why do/don't you?
Thus far, both of my dolls are girls. The only dolls on my wishlist right now are girls. I tend to be in to super-cute face sculpts and overall I just find female sculpts tend to be more cutsey-like. That, and female body-sculpts are softer and prettier, I think. This isn't to say there are no cute boy-sculpts out there, I just haven't found any that really appeal to me. On top of that, skirts and dresses are easier to sew than pants and I am a novice at sewing. And the only clothes I really make for my larger scale doll, are in the sweet lolita style. It doesn't get much more girly than sweet lolita.

If you do, would you consider ever buying the opposite gender of doll?
If I saw a male sculpt that I totally fell squeeing-head-over-heels for, then I would consider it. But, it hasn't happened.

Does the sex of a doll make them more appealing to you?
Generally, I prefer girl dolls. Haven't found a boy I really want.

Would you ever buy a head of the opposite sex to use on the doll (maybe because it looks like the opposite gender)?
There are a few boy-sculpts I've looked at and said--oh hey, he would make a cute girl! So I wouls strongly consider hybridizing a boy-head with a girl-body, if I found I boy-head I loved.
