ONLY buying Male & ONLY buying Female Dolls

Jun 9, 2010

    1. I only have female dolls. The male dolls do not appeal to me and there is not as much stuff out there for male dolls that I like. It seems it would be harder to find wigs and clothes. I would have no problem buying a male doll and turning him into a girl if the face worked for a girl. I did read a post where someone had sanded off the male bits to make the doll a girl and I was both horrified and amused.....not sure I would have thought to do that!

    2. I've got both male and female characters, so it's kind of impossible for me to not buy both. Though I think owning my girls is harder because there's almost no such thing as a non dd adult female in the doll world. Everything's either lolita or elizabethan fashion for them unless I make it myself xD

    3. Do you only buy one sex of doll? Why do/don't you? Nope, but my males are anthro and sans twig and berries because they make me giggle a bit as I am very immatureXD

If you do, would you consider ever buying the opposite gender of doll? Yes, I find some of the male faces very attractive, which leads into the last question for me...

Does the sex of a doll make them more appealing to you? Not really, but my non-anthros are female.

Would you ever buy a head of the opposite sex to use on the doll (maybe because it looks like the opposite gender)? Why yes, I have. My first doll is a Leekeworld Wien on a female body. That sculpt resembles my mother when she was growing up. Instead of the adolescent female body, they sent me the scrawny kid body, but my Naomi Rose is still a beautiful doll all the same:)

    4. Do you only buy one sex of doll? Why do/don't you?

Yep...only girls for me. I mean if I get caught with dolls, at least they'll be female. No way am I getting caught dressing up a guy lol. Yeah I know kids used to play with GI Joes but not for me lol.

If you do, would you consider ever buying the opposite gender of doll?

      Not likely

Does the sex of a doll make them more appealing to you?

I like girls so yeah lol.

Would you ever buy a head of the opposite sex to use on the doll (maybe because it looks like the opposite gender)?

Maybe, b/c there's been quite a few times I've clicked on a picture thinking it was a girl doll and it turned out to be a dude. So if it's a Bishi kinda guy head, sure.

    5. Eep, I've thought about this a lot! Mainly because I'd really love a collection with variety, but I'm always drawn to female dolls and, well, pink and lacy things. There have been male dolls I've liked. The problem is that my funds are limited, and there's always a female doll I'd rather spend my money on. If I had unlimited funds, I'd have some boys--and EVER so many girls! I've also definitely thought about getting male heads and making them female . . . So it all comes down to the fact that while part of me craves variety, I'm not going to buy a doll JUST for that reason, and so--yeah--girls. :)

    6. Do you only buy one sex of doll? Why do/don't you?

I do have a few more females, though that might be explained with the fact that some represent my Pen&Paper RPG characters and I prefer to play characters of my own gender. Also I do have a few tinies that may be labeled as girls, but I tend to regard them as genderless.

Would you ever buy a head of the opposite sex to use on the doll (maybe because it looks like the opposite gender)?

Sure would, if it suits the character I have in mind. I actually bought a male head for one of my RPG characters, but ended up using a female head anyway, that kinda grew on me and also has a way better skin match for the body that I bought specifically for that character.
I'm still considering swapping the heads of my Soom Amber/Beryl and Chalco/Sard.

    7. The majority of my dolls is female but I buy both, boys and girls. Whatever sculpt I love most I buy.

    8. Do you only buy one sex of doll? Why do/don't you?
I think this thread is very apt considering i just sold my only boy. haha..so yes..i collect only girls. I have 13 girls + a girl fox. I had a boy but although he's really nice and all...he couldnt wear pretty clothes. and the boys body is alot bulkier than girls. so only girls for me =), although i still am tempted by alot of boy sculpts (esp crobidoll boys).

If you do, would you consider ever buying the opposite gender of doll?
I will still consider but i will only buy if the boy doll is really absolutely irresistable and i dont have any girl sculpts im after.

Does the sex of a doll make them more appealing to you?
yes...girls definitely...prettier..daintier...and i guess even in real life im more comfortable hanging out with girls than boys.

Would you ever buy a head of the opposite sex to use on the doll (maybe because it looks like the opposite gender)?

yup...definietly...especially DIM persia looks so much like a girl but they used to sell him as a boy only..

    9. I am trying to sell all my boys because I feel that I can bond better with girls!
I just adore all the pretty dresses and accessories that girl dolls look best in >|||<
So, I guess it is all girls for me! ^_^

    10. Do you only buy one sex of doll? Why do/don't you?
I only buy female dolls at this time. Aesthetically, I am only interested in female BJD's.

If you do, would you consider ever buying the opposite gender of doll?
I'd be open to it if it was a special doll, otherwise, no interest.

Does the sex of a doll make them more appealing to you?
      n/a

Would you ever buy a head of the opposite sex to use on the doll (maybe because it looks like the opposite gender)?
      yes!

    11. Do you only buy one sex of doll? Why do/don't you? Yes. I honestly buy mostly female dolls. I'm not sure why, maybe because I am female.

If you do, would you consider ever buying the opposite gender of doll? Possibly, but I find the female sculpts more appealing.

Does the sex of a doll make them more appealing to you? I think so. Although I did see a male sculpt I wanted but didn't have enough dolly dollars saved :(

Would you ever buy a head of the opposite sex to use on the doll (maybe because it looks like the opposite gender)? I haven't yet but it could happen.

      Good questions,
      Dani

    12. Do you only buy one sex of doll? Why do/don't you?

When I first started this hobby I only liked the males. Now I'm starting to slowly like the females. I have one tomboy and waiting for a MNF Mirwen now. I just love her pouty-ness! But I'm still definitely more drawn and doomed towards the male scuplts.

If you do, would you consider ever buying the opposite gender of doll?

      Oh yes. Have already!

Does the sex of a doll make them more appealing to you?
Yes. I think its only because for years I used to collect fashion dolls and well they don't have males and I don't really count Barbie's Ken lol. This was what drew me into ABJDs because the males were just so unique and different to me! Not to mention there are so many handsome and drool worthy sculpts out there!

Would you ever buy a head of the opposite sex to use on the doll (maybe because it looks like the opposite gender)?
I'm a little confused on this question but I'm asuming it meant if I would buy a female sculpt but place it on a male body (vice versa)? My delf lu wen has a pretty feminine face and could pass as a female doll. Heck I've seen plenty of Lu wen girls out there too! All are so pretty! There's a lot of female scuplts that look great as males and vice versa. So yes if I saw a female sculpt I liked but didn't like it as a "female" then I would make him a male.

    13. Do you only buy one sex of doll? Why do/don't you?
I buy only female dolls. Male dolls do not appeal to me at all. Furthermore, I won't buy any doll with a body of a child. I've always admired the curves and details of a the female form (however, I have noticed that many companies deem what I see as a woman's body to be a child's body...to me, the ideal female body is that of small lithe proportions).

If you do, would you consider ever buying the opposite gender of doll?
It's very, very unlikely. The only male dolls I've ever owned were Monster High dolls which I quickly sold. MH dolls are cheap though...I can't see myself spending real money on a male BJD.

Does the sex of a doll make them more appealing to you?
I've tried to deny it to myself, but the truth is yes.

Would you ever buy a head of the opposite sex to use on the doll (maybe because it looks like the opposite gender)?Do you only buy one sex of doll? Why do/don't you?
If I were in the market for hybriding, certainly. I like angular features.

    14. Do you only buy one sex of doll? Why do/don't you?
I used to buy only male dolls... I just couldn't find a female sculpt that appealed to me and I was afraid I wouldn't be able to properly bond...

If you do, would you consider ever buying the opposite gender of doll?
Many I time; I tried over and again to find a female sculpt that would be appealing enough for me to bring home but with little success at the time. Eventually I bought a minifee Shushu and succeeded into bonding with her... and suddenly there are more girl dolls popping up all over the place~

Does the sex of a doll make them more appealing to you?
Not really; I either like or dislike a doll, that's all.

Would you ever buy a head of the opposite sex to use on the doll (maybe because it looks like the opposite gender)?Do you only buy one sex of doll? Why do/don't you?
There are two sculpts I'm going to switch gender to. One is an SD boy that I will make into a girl and the other is an MSD girl to be made into a boy. c:

    15. Do you only buy one sex of doll? Why do/don't you?
I like females, more than males a they are closer to me. I'm a girl who likes to dress up as a lolita and a doll xD I'm maybe weird but still I like it. xD Female dolls like a mature Yosd and MSD are perfect for me as I like to dress them up more like me. XD I don't think I would love to buy stuff for a male? xD

If you do, would you consider ever buying the opposite gender of doll?
I would buy a guy doll because I like the feeling of a heavy SD and female SD dolls don't fit in my characters.

Does the sex of a doll make them more appealing to you?
YES, as I said I love cute girls.
But also for a male. For myself I only like black guys xD So I don't like paler skin colors in dolls to. But I would feel like a sexist buying a black one xD. One other reason why I don't own a male xD.

Would you ever buy a head of the opposite sex to use on the doll (maybe because it looks like the opposite gender)?
Yes if it is pretty why not xD

    16. I am kind of specific with my collection, as I only buy female SD size dolls. I have seen a few male dolls that I really like, but I don't think I'll actually buy one - at least not for a very long time. In part it actually has to do with something as simple as the fact that all my girls can share clothes and a dude would need a whole new wardrobe. But it's also an aesthetic-thing, I just think girls are more rewarding to dress up, they just look better to me.

    17. Right now I only have a female doll, but I do have male sculpts on my wish list. I'd like to have 2 females and 2 males in Yo-SD size.

    18. Do you only buy one sex of doll? Why do/don't you?

I only have boys. As to why well i like boys and have no interest in girl dolls.

If you do, would you consider ever buying the opposite gender of doll?
      No never.

Does the sex of a doll make them more appealing to you?
Definitely. I find them far more attractive and enjoy putting together outfits for them.

Would you ever buy a head of the opposite sex to use on the doll (maybe because it looks like the opposite gender)?

Don't know, maybe. I do like androgynous looking boys. I'm also not against putting my boys in feminine looking outfits (beautiful floral kimono or ornate gothic cloths).

    19. Ok, I finally found the perfect mold for my first girl :aheartbea so I'll answer the questions.

Do you only buy one sex of doll? Why do/don't you?

I used to get only boys and I had no interest whatsoever in acquiring a girl doll until I bought a pukipuki Sugar. I admit that I didn't really want her and I was planning to make her a boy as soon as she comes in. BUT when I opened that box I was greeted by a cute small girl and I was completely, 100% smitten with her at first sight! she was definitely a girl and I felt so happy with her, she was perfect right out of the box, not even with my boys I've felt such...perfection. The feeling of getting the right doll and being happy with everything.

And she was the icebreaker for me. I started to look more at the girls pictures and I had a desire to have a MSD or SD girl one day but no mold called my attention yet. Until I saw JID Soa from Iplehouse, love at first sight :D

If you do, would you consider ever buying the opposite gender of doll?

By my experience, I have learned that you should always keep your mind open to possibilities. While I still have more boy dolls and I highly enjoy them, I also have plans for more girls but with girls, they have to be very special for me to buy one. Right now, I only plan to have another girl but she's not in my wishlist...the ones in my wishlist are priorities and they are all boys.

Does the sex of a doll make them more appealing to you?
Yes, I love male dolls and I love dressing them. Most people think that boys only need pants and shirt and that's it. I don't agree, male clothes can be even more fashionable than girl's clothes in my opinion. It's very complex and I think this is the reason why I love boy dolls the most because I love dressing them up.

The male body appeals to me the most too, I find it more beautiful.

Would you ever buy a head of the opposite sex to use on the doll (maybe because it looks like the opposite gender)?

Yes, I would and some companies offer the head with both bodies and I always choose the boy body.

    20. I have five dolls, two heads and only one of them is a girl doll. Although I do like both gender dolls, most female headsculpts look too sweet or sometimes too vacant to my taste. I like strong women, or girls that don't look sexy/pretty. It's one of the reasons I love a Volks Michele girl. She isn't 'barbie'-pretty, but nevertheless absolutely gorgeous.

I like hybridizing, though, so perhaps in the future I will buy a boy-sculpt and turn it into a girl. Then again... I'll have to find a body sculpt I like first...
