Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. Oops, did I just buy that?

Jul 28, 2010

    1. I still haven't mastered not dreaming about what I want though.....xD

    2. Im doing an essay for school about BJD's and only came up with shopping sites, which led me to Dollmore. I bought two outfits from Dollmore. Im not sure if it was impulsed, but after I bought it I was like, Did I just...?

    3. Sometimes I like to go around all my planned dolls' websites just to look at their pictures, and a few eeks ago I was on Angelheim's page and they were having a sale and so I...bought Roman's head >.> It was pretty impulse, considering I'd JUST put down the deposit for my Minifee (the previous day). I felt kinda weird about it afterward, and I really HATE not planning things (OCD), so now I'm a little disappointed with him. But as I get things for him, it gets better. Hopefully this will teach me not to impulse buy anymore ;^_^

    4. Haha! I was saving up for a KDF Bory... I suddenly see that a BJD artist I like on deviantART has a modded head for sale... Next thing I know I've completed the paypal transfer and have a head on the way! Whoops! But it was a good choice, and I love her a lot ^___^ it was just a total impulse buy.
And then, not a week later Luts starts the '10 summer event... And I find myself begging my dad to give me early birthday money so I can get a body, wig, eyes, and free head out of the event... Then placing the order to Luts! Now that poor Bory I originally planned for has been pushed way down in priority...

    5. I've done this with a few purchases, but I think my Cristal, Amakusa and Kun head were the worst offenders.

Cristal: I already had a normal Cristal, but here I was at the LA Dolpa and the one-off Cristal has a very pretty faceup. I put in for her, but I didn't think I would win. . .oh wait, guess I was wrong!
Amakusa: I was browsing Yahoo Japan auctions and saw an Amakusa with the most beautiful faceup I'd ever seen on that headmold - and the auction had a very low BIN. BAM. 5 minutes later he belonged to me!
Kun: Back before I owned my FIRST Kun (way back in 2007!) I fell in love with a BW Kun one-off from a Volks Mansion tea party. It was that doll that made me fall in love with the headmold in the first place. A few weeks ago I was browsing the Marketplace here and saw that same doll head for sale. What are the odds of that? I never sent a PM so fast in my life!

    6. I'm a teenager so when I impulse buy I only use my spending money and it doesn't affect other parts of my life like eating or rent. But recently I saw a Koji head on the marketplace and I wound up transferring money from what was supposed to be money for decorating my dorm room and plunking down $75 for his head, $45 for a coat, and $65 for a wig and eyes. I guess it's not too weird to have a floating head decorating your dorm room?

    7. My Soom Afi was an impulse.

I had been searching the Market Place for a few months trying to find an Afi I could afford. I hadn't seen one under the price of $600 so I thought I might just start collecting the pieces slowly. Hooves here, head there, etc...
One day I PMed a girl about her Afi that was up as a 'feeler'. She said she was only selling the parts and I said I would think about them.
To my surprise she contacted me the next day saying she put the whole doll up for sale and was giving me first dibbs! The price was the lowest I knew I'd ever see so I said yes. I spent hardly any time at all thinking about it. I could hardly stand to think about what I'd done the next day when my bank account was empty. I never, ever make impulse buys. Ever.
      I'm so glad I did thought <3

    8. *sigh* I am a terrible impulse buyer. Dolls, mainly. If my husband ever knew, he'd be horrified! Somehow, I have always used the CYA system...but since w2e have retired (last Jan) I finally had to get a grip.
Yeah, sure, I was just on Luts site and had two dolls in the cart and another that I wanted, when I realized they don't do LAW.
      On the one hand, :(
On the other, I'm saying, "Thank you, Lord!"

I have a rule: "NO buying at night!"
I try to abide by that......

    9. I have to mention impulse buying a body for that Koji head I randomly bought. Looks like I have a big resin matching project on my hands now.

    10. I almost did na impulse buy on my first doll. I took a long time deciding on Ringdoll Rebecca, and on payday, I was completely geared to put in my first payment.... But I don't have a debit card, and MoC doesn't take paypal.... I was so frustrated that I stormed through shops, looking for another doll about the same price that I could put on layaway, but I'm so thankful I didn't!

    11. I've been very close to impulse-buys, a few times, but never have.

It wasn't about the money, or worries about the money (not because we're rich, or anything - different factors). Mostly, it's because I am hyper-selective: I have so many friends (plus my Bride) who have so many beautiful dolls, the need for me to own many dolls myself is somewhat diminished. Also, I don't bond easily with people (dolls *or* humans, it seems!), so when it comes to impulse buys, I have sometimes gotten all the way to the "Click to confirm" button, then shied-back.

In those cases, I often flag the doll / site, and go back to it later on - and in evey instance, I decided I didn't need the doll *that* much, and would rather just save the bucks so Juli could get something she really fell in love with. For her part, the few times I have really, really wanted something that falls beyond the "reasonable amount" for our household budget, she finds a way for us to make it work. In those cases, mac&cheese suddenly appears prominently in the meal-planning for a month or two.
      :aeyepop:

      Overall, I've decided that I don't need a zillion dolls - I need a few, that I simply adore.

And while I don't deny that "love at first sight" is a real thing, it's rare for me. To date, every time that's happened, the dolls have been "unobtanium" on the secondary market, or already belonged to friends... and besides, I'm not going to sell my Harley to finance a doll.

Not that I haven't been tempted... but I have Talia, and my Bride. That's enough for any man.

    12.
    13. I totally did an impulse buy for my Soom Nenad. I saw her and after prowling through a few posts about her on the DoA forums, next thing I know I'm clicking away my first layaway payment. -_- I don't think things through much... that's going to be a problem every time I look at a company's site. Every time I see something new I seem to want it! As long as I remember to never go on the company websites, I should be fine... I think. D:

    14. After the financial Horror that was my first year living on my own I'm VERY careful about budgeting. Yeah I'll make impulse buys, but I always limit myself on how much I can spend on my impulse buys (usually around $100 depending on bills and emergency car repair) If is see a cute whatever and it's like $35 I'll grab it without a second thought, but if it's like $275 I put it back and start plotting how I can scrape the money together to get it..... I STILL haven't been able to save up the $20,000 for my 2 month tour of Europe.... >.<'

    15. Oh trust me, have done that!
      It is bitter-sweet! I can't say I like what I did but i don't hate it either...
I just finished all of my academic exams, my brain are all scattered
and so i browse for dolls again to rejuvenate myself, and so I came across this beautiful, serene and peaceful doll.
She is a sleeping doll. A Tiny fairy - Sleeping Emilie. Seeing her made me magically unconscious, making me order, click the deadly "Buy button" and pay it afterwards. When I came back to my senses, I just saw this message that the payment had been processed! Oh gawd... haha!

I am just wishing my mother won't bother to look at her credit card billing statement this month, until I destroyed that piece of evidence (evil laugh!)... Anyway, I am expecting my 2 dolls form DOD and that untimely but lovely girl from Bluefairy!
til then... Happy Compulsive Buying Everyone!

    16. This happens to me just about every time Soom releases a new limited monthly doll. Those fantasy parts... I just can't resist! ;_;

    17. deffinitely ... saw a MNF Rheia head and a Bobobie body for sale and next thing ... I PM the owners and now I have Sasha on her way home. *sigh* deffinitely not as planned.

    18. Both of my dolls I bought RIGHT THEN (on their release days, when I saw them). However...I keep a small supply of money. If there's money in there to do so, I can has. If not, I no can has. XD
And seeing as at the moment that account has been deemed offlimits to myself by myself (saving up for a potential move), I can't go out buying much at the moment anyways.

    19. Oh, gosh, yes. I have bought about six dolls impulsively... Some times it's the fact that it's limited so I think I need to buy it NOW, and then later I get it and realize I don't really want it. Other times it's great deals on the MP. Of those dolls, only two have worked out, and I am in the process of selling the rest of them >__< I wish I had learned my lesson sooner, but I did learn a lot about different companies and stuff, so it wasn't a total loss. @__@

    20. I'm pretty good at contolling myself when it comes to things with a big price tag. ^^;

Though... I do have a seperate bank account for pocket money (birthday money, extra cash, selling stuff online, etc). And I'll only do big impulse buys if I have enough "extra" cash put aside... I'm kind of super-extra-cautious when it comes to financial matters. I would never let my hobby cut into my living expenses.
