1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. Oops, did I just buy that?

Jul 28, 2010

    1. I don't think I've ever impulse bought a doll without thinking about my finances first. Stalking the marketplace here I'm OFTEN tempted however, it was my new year's resolution to follow my budget more strictly. And so far I have been.

The only "danger" buy was my SOOM Pyrol. Even though I did a layaway, I was in a risky financial pickle. However, it was a monthly doll and it was my birthday...I made my excuses. ;P

    2. Well... It has happened to me... Twice to be precise. First time if happened with Alexander (Luts Kid Delf Cherry), which I bought secondhand from a Finnish ABJD forum site. I was still beginner about dolls and just wanted any doll available to get one home as soon as possible. So, it was kind fo accident. But I haven't regretted it.

Second time... Also on that same forum site. One doll hobbyist was selling Soom MD Amber head with her own awesomely awesome face-up. I fell in love at first sight and wanted to really buy her. It was just that she was selling it on auction and the highest offer would win. So I ended up to pay like almost twice the cost that head would usually cost and... But I haven't regretted this one either so I guess it's not a problem then. :)

    3. Looking around, there are few of my dolls that are not impulse buys. Many of them were actually on my wishlist at one point or another, but the actual buying part usually happens spontaneously. Things like discontinuation or finding limiteds on the MP tend to force my hand. (or that's how I justify it to myself)

I'm really happy with my collection now so my goal is to only buy things like bodies for floating heads and clothing for those in character-inappropriate hand-me-downs. And to only buy the aforementioned items when finances allow for it.

    4. Ohhhhhhhh I did *exactly* the same thing! She's been here over a week and I haven't even taken the plastic wrap off her box, though.

    5. Is the elfdoll website open again?? Last time I went on there to view a doll that I was thinking of buying, the Sooah, but they had closed their website to people that weren't members.

Ok anyways, I have really been struggling with this myself actually. I haven't made a buy that I regret necessarily but I am regretting thinking of buying a doll even though they're what makes me happy. Basically I am a full time student, generally, and I go to school in NYC. It costs so much money to live there but also to go to school there so I have so many school loans that I will have to pay off eventually. I feel like thinking about buying a doll is bad sometimes, because there are all these other payments that I need to make, not to mention I have to pay for my food and transportation money neither of which is cheap.

I don't know if other people have felt this way before, sorry if its not helpful to what you were posting. I just think though that these dolls are so beautiful and they make me really happy and inspire me, and you never know when this doll you really like is going to go off the market or something. Maybe in that sense its worth it I dunno.

    6. I had that a lot in the last 6 month's.. Most of these dolls are gone now. I have to want them for a while even dream about them sometimes. Then I know it was the right discission. To many dolls come and go otherwise..
Does anyone else have that, dreaming about your dolls or even more the ones not yet in your posession??
They sometimes drive me nuts, in a good way ;)

    7. Hahahah! I've totally done that-not with dolls so far but with other things I collect. Usually by browsing ebay late at night. A very dangerous pasttime!
      glory

    8. Maybe I should be worried about this... >_> It's never been a problem before; usually I'm an infamously slow decision-maker. But I saw human Maska on the Luts main page and fell in love; I bought him two weeks later. @_@ I though about my first doll for six months before buying him, so this is REALLY fast for me... but I thought about Maska every day. Pictures of him would come into my head randomly; it was a little scary. >_> All you happy impulse buyers, you give me hope! I may not be totally crazy after all...

    9. All

      the

      TIME.

      *dies*

    10. I don't normally impulse buy on dolls because I just don't have the money and I am trying to not use my credit cards anymore and pay them off asap. I do, however sometimes impulse buy on clothes, shoes or wigs. Last week I saw a dress on etsy and. . . OOPS! Did I just click buy? How did that happen?! :sweat

    11. I have one of the WORST stories, in my honest opinion.

So back in September-ish I was browsing DenverDollEmporium, and OMAIGOSH a sale came up! Free IMPL babies Greta or Cyril! I was so pumped I ordered a ton of dolls and got my friend to order some too! I ordered 8 dolls all at once, along with them the 5 freebies, one of those dolls was my friend's and one of the freebies. OMAIGOSH DEATHFACE.

Worst thing I've ever done, I am just, JUST finishing off payment to Denverdoll, usually I am pretty good about paying off and such, but I had such bad buyers remorse my payments were all kept super duper small. Until now when I am pretty settled on the fact that they are all coming home, only sucky thing is DDE staff will probably only take orders from me for one thing at a time now lol.

    12. Yes my second doll was hay I really want a boy and they have a layway plan. Bought! It hasn't been even a month since I bought my first BJD. Of course I am holding off on the buying till he's paid up though.

    13. Wow... Impulse buys kind of scare me ^-^;; Luckily, I have to go through someone else before I can purchase anything (one of the joys of being a minor) so that saves me from impulse buys... (doesn't mean that I can't convince them that they want a particular doll and then order along with them... >.>) so right now, the worst I can do is impulse fall in love. Which is somewhat frightening as well. I see something, and I fall in love instantly, and then the doll will be forever engraved on my wishlist until I get up enough money to buy it. ^-^;; the most impulsively bought thing so far was the Luts Kid Delf Maska Elf. I saw him, fell in love, and knew that I wanted to purchase him, so I waited until my sister decided that she was going to buy a Maska Human, and then ordered with her. But it never crossed my mind that I wouldn't order him the instant it was allowed >.> It was a kind of scary determination... :|

    14. I had that problem when I had `free` money, money which I didnt worked for. It was easy to splash them on something nice, some expensive dolly clothing etc. but now, when I`m working to get my money, I`m thinking twice before buying anything, especially when it comes to hobbies or other stuff that I want not need.

    15. I did that with my Ender Jackel head and outfit. I am still paying on the layaway through a split But I stalked the split threads and joined the 1st one with a avaible head and outfit and staff. Its been a little tight on things but over all I am glad I got him I missed out on other dolls I was not missing out on the Jackel.

    16. Before I fully understood the difference between "Slim" MSD & Regular MSD I made several impulse buys thinking there wasn't much difference. I soon discovered that I had to make a choice between the 2 sizes because I couldn't afford wigs, clothing eyes, etc in all the varied sizes. Now that I've moved up to the larger dolls it is much easier to at least share wigs & eyes.

    17. Im kind of in that situation at the moment where i dont even have the money to buy but i have bought so im in the minuses! :S

      Eep

I cant help falling for the doll so quickly!

    18. I have had few impulse buys in past but now I`m trying to avoid it and think twice before buying anything. I think the worst are limited items because you need to make up your mind quickly.

    19. Generally I don't impulse buy because I can alway reason with myself about how much I don't need this or that. I'm also very fond of having money in the bank. When I finally decided that I was going to do it and buy my very first BJD I was determined to take my time, find the one I really wanted and save my money. My small way of resisting, because generally once I make up my mind to do something I do it. After looking at what felt like every BJD site out there I fell in love with Luke from DoD. I was carefully starting to putting money away to purchase him, I hardly had a third saved up, and then I saw Duncan and it was like 'point and Click'. :o I was already putting him into my cart before I even knew what I was doing. Now he's on his way and I'm glad I chose him instead of Luke because even though Luke is very, very pretty, Duncan fits was I was looking for so much more.

Now I'm just resisting buying Terra from Lutz, but it's so very hard when I want him so bad to be the companion BJD for Duncan. :love

    20. The only reason I bought my AS Momo in the first place was because I wanted to feel the hype and excitement of a box opening O_e
      really..
