1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Opinions on 'touching' a BJDs face?

Jun 28, 2016

    1. I never touch any of my dolls' faces, even ones that are not resin and are not painted by me or have a custom/artist face up, and I avoid touching any of my toys for prolonged periods of time ungloved, because of the oils in human skin. I'm not sure if it is due to my background in art. However, I have always dreaded touching my toys for long, without washing my hands a thousand times first and/or wearing gloves, if I was going to do so for a long time. Even as a clumsy child, I would never touch the faces, or undress them without having part of their bodies already covered/protected from my oily hands. I don't even use my fingers to blend pigments in my personal art, because it is such a huge deal for me, for bare hands to touch surfaces I wan to keep in pristine condition for along time. People who come into my room know that there's a strict no touching policy; you can see but you can never touch anything in my room. The only ones that are free to touch anything (they can reach) are my cats, but they are mostly books in lower level shelfs or things that won't break/can't be chewed. Otherwise, I'm pretty firm about people never coming into my room, if they don't follow my rules, regardless of who they are. (:

    2. Tbh, I am not as careful with this as I used to be when I started in the hobby.
I always clean my hands before handling my dolls, and yes, I touch their faces in the chin and sides areas to pose them or when I'm removing their heads to change their clothing or when I'm positioning their wigs.

    3. I take no care whatsoever with my doll's faceup! I freely touch his face without washing my hands beforehand, although I am a bit of a germaphobe so I wash my hands fairly often anyway. I'm also a bit obsessive about never touching my *own* face, ironically, because it helps to avoid catching viruses.

I've never noticed any negative effects from doll face touching. My doll's company faceup did slowly fade a bit, but was still very clear after many years of abuse when I finally decided to redo it. Time will tell if his new faceup is just as resilient.

    4. I'm super careful if they are other people's dolls, super careful if someone else made the faceup, and relatively careful with those I faceupped myself, as I don't want to redo it too soon. But I use mine as sewing models, too, so some wear will be seen. But I'm less stressed out if it's my faceup.

    5. I try minimize touching any of my dolls faces for fear of my human oils ruining their beautiful faceups. I even brought cloth gloves but I don't always use those when I am manipulating their wigs and taking off their heads.
