1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Ordering many dolls at once?

Nov 29, 2007

    1. I put three tinies on layaway. I always intended to do the two together, but the third just ended up that way. And then I put two more on layaway about three weeks later because they were limiteds that I fell in love with. The only limiteds I've every really wanted so much I couldn't say no. I think as long as you don't overspend your budget it shouldn't be an issue.

I don't think bonding will be an issue, but I might think differently when I have 5 little dolls arriving within a months time of eachother. I'll have to wait and see.

    2. I've just ordered two dolls within a day or two of each other. As long as I can afford it, why not?
I have my 'ideal' doll collection, and ordering these two has put me a lot closer to that final dream.

    3. I'm trying to space them out, but I have been on a spree lately. I have a buying and saving schedule. :D

    4. You know, the closest I've ever purchased two dolls to one another was seven months, and even then I was surprised at how close together they were. I bought my first one in 2005, the second in the summer of 2006, the third and the fourth in early autumn 2007 and late spring, and I just purchased the fifth now. It's partially a money issue, and also partially my issue with spending money.

I feel like I can't in good conscience, purchase two dolls at the same time. It doesn't matter to me if other people do it, but something about dropping a large amount of money for two dolls at once makes me balk.

    5. I dont think there is a moral or ethical problem but I can totally see their point about finding it hard to bond. Beleive me if I had the money to order EVERY BJD I want right now it would be very hard not to, but I'd force myself to hold back and not order more than one a week....Hey it's compromise not surrender ;D

    6. I think as long as you have the funds you can order dolls as often as you like. I'm currently waiting on a Soom Glot and although Soom's long wait times are really irritating me right now, I'm holding off on buying another doll just in case one of their Monthly Dolls really grabs my attention. If I had lots of money available I think I would buy up all my dream dolls right now and I'd worry about bonding when they started to arrive. The wait times for all the companies vary wildly, so unless they all ganged together and conspired to send my dolls at the same time, there would be a gap between each arrival. I'm sure my ability to cope with more than one doll would be alright!

    7. I plan on ordering 3 at once. No shipping charge that way! I want my Littlefee El, my Puki Madeleine, and a body for my LTF Elf Shiwoo head. I'll be spliting that third one.

    8. With different waiting times between various dealers and companies, it's been twice (and I am predicting in the next while it will become a 'hat-trick') that I have wound up receiving two highly-anticipated dolls on the very same day:doh It never rains, but it sure pours in Tibbyville!

While I like the 'whoa! lavish-mucho-plenty' fiesta-feeling of getting them like that, it does get a bit overwhelming! However, I go a good long time in-between my doll purchases, so there is plenty of opportunity to spend quality time and get acquainted with each after they arrive. What is kind of cute, is no matter how different the two dolls that arrive on the same day may be, they always have a special 'relationship' because they came into my flock together - I think that's kind of neat!

    9. As for me, I do worry about not bonding with them when getting them so close together (I don't think I've fully bonded with one of my dolls that was 1/3 of the dolls I got within a couple of months).

I do however feel like I should get twins/ couples together x33 It just feels... nicer I guess D: So I save up until I can afford both of them together.

    10. Buying several at once is very satisfying, but it can be a bit overwhelming if they all turn up at once.

Its hard to say no to LEs if you're love them and if you have the funds available. And if you watch the MP, you know that the aftermarket price will have another 30% added to the original price so you just end up in this cycle of nabbing dolls when they come out, which often means having several on order at once. Its that mindset of I might as well get this now because the next time I see one it will be more expensive.

Most of the time when people have several dolls on order at least one or two will be LEs from what I have noticed. I cant really see an ethical dilemma with the idea that you have the money so you buy the dolls. I bet about 50% of the members of the forum would probably be able to reel off ten dolls they really want and would order in avalanche of doll boxes if they had the cash. I know I could. :)

    11. If you have the funds, and it won't affect paying your bills then go for it. I think is hard just ordering one, i buy compulsively and in my case i'm trying to buy one doll at a time, so i'll buy exactly the ones i really love, but if your sure and you can, i think is fine. I already buy my first doll and have one on layaway, and will buy other doll that is a LE and hopefully will stop there till all of them arrive.

I don't think morals or ethics enter into this issue at all and about bonding i can't give any kind of advice, if anything, i'll learn how to cope when my new dolls arrive at home.

    12. I personally would prefer to spread out my purchases, that way you do get that bonding time and can get some insight into the doll and who or what they want to be, unless you have something in mind for them. I think you and your dolls would be happier in the long run.

However, at the same time, there's nothing that says you can't order them and then spend time bonding with each of them individually as you see fit once they arrive. Your call.

    13. I rather liked ordering my two incoming dolls together. I knew their characters were going to be very close, so it only seems right for them to come to me together. It seems like, in situations like my own, it would actually help with the bonding. I can see how it would be a bit harder if they were intended to have completely different lives/personalities.

The only moral issue I can think of involving ordering more than one at once is that it's a bit indulgent. It is, but hey! Why not treat yourself if you've got the money to.

    14. I've had three arrive in the past month and it hasn't made a difference. I love them all. I tend to think it's likely to be an issue with the sculpt rather than them arriving separately that's the problem. I bought a bambicrony Sunday and got a free April head, now I'm planning to buy 'her' a body and possibly turn her into a boy or a boyish girl. She'll be a twin for my Sunday - my first twin ever. I'm looking forward to her even though she's only a head and I've currently got her sister here.

    15. I've ordered many of my dolls "at the same time". I dont see a problem there if you really like the doll you have ordered. I mean, I have ordered few dolls which I thought they were just cute. But I didn't get the "omg, I must get those!" -feeling. So, when they came home, I wasn't bonding with them at all. I still do have few dolls just sitting on the shelf with others, but I just don't feel like taking pictures or doing anything with them.

Right now I have 4 dolls coming (Soom's monthly dolls). But I'm more than sure that when they all arrive, I will be so happy and won't regret that at all.

And also I've noticed, there are erm.. "seasons", when you feel like changing their clothes, photographing them, changing wigs and such. And I also have "seasons" which doll(s) I like the most.

    16. The third, fourth and fifth (well the head ^^;) I ordered together.
I had no problems with bonding or whatever. I spend time with each of them and together and I never felt that it would be a problem because I ordered them to have them around. I don't see anything in that.
I'm now waiting for two dolls I ordered together and I'll give them face-ups the same time, will sew clothes for them and won't forget the others. ^^

      Laoky

    17. Is there any ethical or moral reason why a person should not buy more than one doll at once?

Is there any ethical or moral reason why a person should not buy more than one pair of shoes at once? I mean, you can only wear one pair at the time. (Unless you get creative.)

What would hold me back from ordering several dolls at once is that I may feel overwhelmed once they are home, because I need to figure out what kind of eyes, wigs, clothes, and face-ups suit the dolls. It takes time and money to figure that out.

I once had the money to buy two dolls I wanted and despite the fact they would probably end up at my home at the same time (they are from the same company) I ordered both. It felt silly to hang on to half of the money I knew I was going to spend on a doll anyway. I had saved up and reserved money for the purpose of buying dolls and I ordered both dolls when the ordering period opened. For me waiting is not the most pleasant part of ordering a doll, so I didn't feel like waiting longer than I had to.
If I do end up feeling overwhelmed I could always box up one and take it out when I've finished the other. Things like bonding and finishing a doll does not have to start upon arrival. Some restrictions just feel silly to me.

    18. I think that bonding is an issue when you bring home more than one doll at once. I'd feel bad to pay more attention to the other, but then most owners find a way to incorporate ALL their dolls together. so then...I guess you just find a balance.

    19. When (and if) I bond with a doll really isn't a matter of when they come home. I buy when I have the means to buy, and when items are available. With limited ordering periods or cycles and limited funds, finances dictate when and if I buy. Last week, I ended up ordering three dolls on the same day -- knowing full well they won't arrive at the same time anyway, and also that I have a handful that still require my attention in faceups and sanding and so on.

That's the time I spend doing any bonding. It doesn't necessarily have to happen the moment the doll actually arrives for me. It'll happen in due time, since time to go through all of those processes is, sadly, like finances, something that is also not in an infinite supply.

    20. Well as someone who went shopping at the customhouse buy one get one free, I don't really have a choice whether or not to get a second doll. Sure when they arrive together, there's usually one that you may prefer over another, but usually that just means that you've got to play with wigs and eyes to get one right. I've had one arrive by itself and think I'm not going to bond then gradually bonded with it. The number I have arrive never usually affects that. Some dolls appeal instantly, others take a while.
