It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Ordering many dolls at once?

Nov 29, 2007

    1. At just this moment, I don't know if I'd order more than one at a time, simply because... it takes me SO long to make big decisions like this! I'm already considering a boy, even though my Ellery hasn't arrived yet, and I have a good idea of the sculpt I want, but it's going to constitute another couple of months of decision-making and waffling about whether I want to drop that kind of cash on another doll.

    2. I had one pair of dolls thats a couple and from the same company that I ordered at the same time...they arrived at the same time and since they're a couple I bonded with both of them, while also working on the character of Shade since the main reason I got her was to be Phoenix's girlfriend and because I liked her but I didn't have a character in mind at the time. If you look at my list non of my dolls have a really long time between arrivals (most of them are between october and last week xD) but I've had time with all of them and am looking forward to having a lot of time to devote to them while I'm home for winter break (and actually sew each of them their own outfits, since a few of them only have one or don't even have a full outfit of their own yet)

    3. If you can financially afford it, I don't see anything wrong with ordering multiples. I've ordered three BJDs in the past four months - I received my second only a month and a half after my first, and I have not had any problems bonding with either.

Of course, I'm taking a bit of a break for now (or at least that is what I'm telling myself) so I can spend time enjoying the ones I own. I don't want to get too many too quickly - that might be a bit overwhelming. Besides, I need some time to clothe them, accessorize, etc.

    4. I think it would even be a really good idea if they fit into each other's story, like a couple. If they were from completely different stories it might throw someone off the other but I don't think it would do so for me.

    5. The only issue I would have with buying more than one doll at a time is that I make all my own clothing, so if they were different sculpts...there would be some nakedness while I scrambled to make clothes for them all. Hehe.
I could see that as being a bit overwhelming. However, I do have a dream to get a Saiph and Meisa at the same time and make them twins. In fact, I think it would be a bit odd to get them separately! (I'm going to have to do some major saving to make that a reality though) In that case, sewing would almost be easier done at the same time so that their outfits would have the same feel as I could make them at the same time. ^_^

    6. I have 2 incoming dolls now. Soom Sphaler and Luts Howl. Sphaler comes next week and Howl early Jan.

It's too stressfull. I won't order 2 dolls at the same time again. It's too much trouble. Very exhausted waiting, tracking and worrying about them. I'm so exhausted, I'm taking a break posting in this thread instead of the waiting room.

    7. I take it that by moral issues, you mean whether it is right or wrong to spend that much on purchasing two dolls or more when you can feed someone in Africa?

If you do mean what I believe what you mean above, then I think the moral issues that you speak off can apply to many items not only dolls.

I do believe most people believe that because it is their money, they can spend it whatever they want.

It's a very complicated issue and I think there has been many philosophical debating about whether it is right or wrong to buy expensive items. When you ask this question in which I believe, you have to go into philosophy.

    8. Its your money and your dolls, do what you want. They might be jealous of each other at first, but I think if you're going to bond with them at all it won't matter if there's two at the same time or one at a time.

    9. As long as you feel like you can bond with both just as well, go ahead!

I think if I were in that situation I'd open one box and acquaint myself with that doll fully before setting him or her aside to meet and greet the next dolly with equal attention. Then you're focus isn't divided when you first meet them.

    10. I have an opportunity to purchase two of my favorite dolls coming up - but if I want them both, I have to get them now, or the deal expires. I am really on the fence about it because while I know I want both dolls, I feel that if I were to get both at once, it would take away the "magic" of the doll arrival.

I think if I had tons of dolls, this wouldn't be so important to me. But as these would only be my second and third dolls, I wouldn't want to miss out on that "getting acquainted" period. Where you really learn to appreciate your doll and are super excited to have it. I feel like if I got two at once, that feeling would be split between them, and wouldn't be as strong for either.

So, I have to weight the benefits and the costs. Pick one and have the experience, or try both and risk it? It's not a moral/ethical dilemma - more of a personal preference/choice. One that is sometimes tough to make!

    11. I don't see my self buying multiple dolls from diffrent companies, but I'm very likely to buy multiple dolls from the same company as I have a serious love for the pairs alot of companies do as they're designed to go together and my mind cartwheels over itself at the thought of seperating them. I may of course regret this statement once SOOM start up there monthly dolls again ^^;

    12. If someone has the money and feels that's what they want to do, then they should go ahead and get multiple dolls at once. I don't think I'd want to do so even if I could afford to, but I don't see the problem if a person is prepared for the potential stress of importing more than one expensive item at a time.

    13. I dont have difficulty to bond with a doll because most of the time I already know what they will be and I am ready for about anything.

I bout a total of 6 dolls within a week and while some may think its a lot, I think too, only 2 of them will arrive together and the others will all arrive at different times which gives me some "alone" time with each one ;3

The last one should arrive in April/May or maybe even June if I'm unlucky and the first one got here in January =D

I dont mind it and its fun to know all this waiting will give me more then one doll xD

    14. Mine tend to arrive or be purchased in spurts of 2 or 3 at a time. I think of one character I want to embody, and inevitably they need a partner or friend of some sort, and bam. =^i^=;; *looks sheepishly at the layaways in her signature* I have this luck (curse?) of the perfect companion appearing just in time, haha.

    15. I have done this. ^_^ I got my first two dolls roughly two months apart; November '08, then January '09.

Then things went a little haywire starting in September. XD I bought myself one as an early b-day gift in late august, which was followed by another, late b-day gift to myself in mid-to-late-october. The second was because I couldn't afford the one I was originally planning on at the time. So, I took the money I had saved up and got the different doll for a bit cheaper. Then another one was an x-mas gift from my boyfriend (which was the one I was originally planning on). Of course, my october kid is a Customhouse Little Junior, and I felt that he needed a friend, since my other dolls were all paired up now. So, by late december, I purchased my x-mas gift to myself. I'll be waiting for her for a while (She's another little junior, direct from CH), so I broke down with my purchase of another last week. XD I just bought the head last week though, I'll need to buy his body soon. At the moment, I am sooo excited for both of them; the most recent one I bought is Migidoll Ryu, who I've wanted forever, and the Little Junior is the accumulation of all of my pining after a dollie direct from CH, so I'm super excited about her too. :)
I guess what my rambling comes down to, is that for me, the excitement builds upon itself. :) I am excitedx2!

    16. I tend to want my instant gratification, so I love the idea of getting two at once! However, they'd have to be a sibling pair in order to work properly bonding wise, and even then it might be a tad shoddy... I really do think it'd be hard to actually bond with both dolls at the same time- part of the fun is getting all geared up and excited about the delivery of one- then you can plot away and get excited about the next one and so on. I'd at least have them come a few months apart. Plus, I tend to lavish newibes to my gang with undivided attention (Poor Cass is going through all that right now XD) and I like being able to tote the newest member around with me and fawn all over them before the next one arrives and pulls my attention away.

    17. I like ordering multiple dolls at a time. My first doll arrived and I ordered three dolls that would arrive a few months later. I see one doll I like and then I have to get someone for them to hang out with. I will go for a long time not seeing anyone I want to add to my group, and then I will see a couple all at once. Luckily I put away all of my money until I see someone I like. Like right now I bought an Elfkin, and I see another few dolls that I will definitely be buying. I've never had a problem with bonding with all of my dolls that arrived at once. I buy them all wigs and eyes, and I usually have clothes for them already so it works out.

    18. Moral issue: No, I have no problem with anyone buying more than one doll at once if they can afford to do so. I don't go for this whole dolly bonding thing but then I am male and have ASD so I don't really bond with anything, whether alive or inanimate.

Practical issue: A couple at a time is fine coz you get time to enjoy them and create stuff for them like clothes and stuff. You have time to get to know how you want your dolls to look and have some time to spend on achieving that before you go onto your next project.

Buying a whole host of them all at once could be a bad move simply you can overwhelm yourself with too many dollies to dress and create an image for all at once. Even if you were like a multi-millionaire one should avoid doing that because you do not get the time to appreciate what you already have.

It's just like me planning a new Warhammer 40K army - I buy a unit at the time and make sure I have finished painting and basing them before buying the next unit even if I can afford to buy the whole army at once. It is purely self-discipline and nothing else. At the most I might buy two units at the same time, especially if they're tanks from Forge World and I can save on shipping this way. Tanks are dead easy to paint fairly fast compared to ten or twenty little metal men.

So to me the only reason I would limit how many dolls I buy at once are practical ones: Do I have the money to do it? Do I have the time free to devote to getting them right for whatever purpose I bought them for?

I can imagine having quite a host in the future, but from experience I will build them up bit by bit rather than all at once.

      Phil.

    19. For one, I'd be worried about bonding: I'd hate to lump them all together as 'one', I'd feel inclined to leave a certain doll out from the group. Also, I'd hate to deal with the tons and tons and tons of bubble wrap and mess afterward, and if it's anything like having just one doll, I'd be confused when getting them clothes *wait, THIS guy's Kura, and he looks well in WX style of fashion...but it wouldn't look right if XY were to wear YZ next to him* and thus we have clothing dilemmas. ._. I'd love to get several at once, however...

    20. If I were you, I'd get both, purely because you'll kick yourself if you pick one over the other and end up regretting it! Well, I know I would anyway.

If I could afford it, I'd buy all four of the dolls on my waiting list (may possibly become five as I think I've found another one...meep!!) right this second. Yes, there's the magic of a new doll arriving, but all the dolls I have and want fit into their own little roles in their story/families, so getting them all would be like filling in the gaps in a family. I'd love nothing more than being able to put the whole family together (ok, two families, but they're connected sooo...).

If you don't think you'd 'bond' with them as much together as individually, and you'll be able to get the second doll at a later date, then split it and get the second doll a couple months later.
